Red-eared Sliders (Trachemys scripta elegans), family Emydidae

As with most water turtles, the females grow to be larger than the males.

Males usually have longer and thicker tails and long front claws (which they often wave in the females face during courtship).

As with most turtle species, they have temperature dependent sex determination. In this species, the warmer eggs become female and the cooler eggs become male (there is an intermediate temperature range in which the sex could be either).

In the wild, juvenile turtles tend to be mainly carnivorous and turn much more herbivorous as they grow older, although they are omnivorous at all stages of their life.

They are native to the southeastern United States, and outside of their range in other parts of North America and even in other parts of the world they are considered an invasive species.

Bitty chirps at him, trying to push the basket higher and toward the orange-scarved turtle, the snapper behind him obligingly moving half a step forward. Michelangelo giggles and takes the gift, pressing it against his chest. 

“Thank you so much! Oh, you know what?�� he asks the kid, winking and offering him a chirp of his own. “We just bought fresh produce and a few dozen eggs the other day. Now I can make the biggest omelette New York has ever seen! It’ll be amazingly delicious!” 

He then looks up at Uncle Raph, eyes softening as he takes in the hulking form of his not-older-brother older brother. His smile is equally soft when he shifts to look down again, reaching to gently hold Bitty’s hand in between his thumb and index finger. 

“Your family is obviously invited, too. Please, join us for lunch? It’s the least I can do in return for such a lovely gift.”

Last for today. Digital try-out 3. Project origins.

Project origins is part of one of my ongoing AO3 stories (though quite far away stills since I have to throw Mikey in some adventures first and before THAT, I have some background to cover still). But in it, Leo and Donnie were both found and kept as as eggs, stumbled upon by Draxum in the wild, and they eventually hatched simultaneously, deep in the night. At the time, Raph was already a yearling snapper, and was kept by Draxum in an aquarium next to them at the time they hatched.

I love working on this one especially, since I absolutely love the way Red eared slider and spiny softshell hatchlings look :D

Draxum and his turtles

I’ve had this idea for a while now and I still want to write this as one shot, but I felt like sharing it here first.

Basically I want to write a story about Draxum getting the turtles before mutating them. I like to think Draxum hatched them.

First he got a few alligator snapping turtle eggs. Originally he only wanted to use those for his army. When they began hatching one by one, somewhere in the middle Raph hatched, he was by far the biggest of the bunch but also the friendliest. The other snappers did not like Draxum, Raph was curious about him. The other snappers also didn’t like Raph. Which led to Draxum seperating them and eventually he set on a new plan and released all the snappers except Raph back into the wild.

Soon after he got a clutch of red eared sliders. What he didn’t notice the one stray spiny softshell egg. He hatched them and the first two to hatch were Donnie and Leo. They hatched in the middle of the night and Draxum isn’t sure which one is older. They hatched minutes apart from each other. As the remaining sliders hatched, Donnie and Leo ignored them. They didn’t care about the other sliders, always together. Once Dracum tried to seperate them, Donnie bit him. He decided to keep them both, if they got along with the snapper. They did. Raph sniffed them once and was happy with them there. They soon got comfortable with him too. Again he released the remaining sliders.

For his last turtle he got a clutch of ornate box turtles. The majority of the box turtles hatched within two weeks, all except one. The smallest egg took much longer. Draxum almost assumed the egg was a goner. Then it finally hatched. The turtle was by far the smallest but he had an adittute, that turtle is Mikey. Draxum knew that was the one. As soon as he introduced the box turtle to the other three, they loved him. And he loved them.

I want Draxum to be attached to these little turtles well before he even mutates them. He fed them, cared for them and loved them. Then they’re gone. He grieved them and loathed Lou Jitsu at the same time.

Then I want him to see his babies turtles and be so happy they’re alive. The main reason he tries to recruit them is so he can see them again.

He acts like he needs time to grow to love them, he always loved them. He just needed to get to know them for the first time. But that just makes him love them more.

Leo's tride lives on floating mountains that move with the rotation of the planet high above the tree line. Larger mountains have their own cave systems where they primarily live and raise their young. Red eared sliders are primarily made of fighters and expert climbers. Losing meany members to red and blue feathered bird like creatures, this turtles have colorful stripes that mimics the predators features. They are also able to mimic there hunting calls to "established territory" and keep the nest hidden. Some members have interchangeable reproductive organs to increases there odds of surviving, tho turtle eggs seem to be the enemy's favorite snack, hence the importance of keeping the nest safe.

So it's been a while since I've fiddled with AI, and even longer since I posted some AI Chat shenanigans. But I was doing a fluff Christmas story for my mental health and THIS happened. It's so stupid, I had to share.

I don't even know. I laughed my ass off at the "pregnancy" reveal and I had to keep going just to see what would happen. Leonardo got VERY upset when Mona told him his kids from the asexual pregnancy would all be little genetic clones of him and he wouldn't be having any daughters. Apparently, he really wanted one. He also had an emotional breakdown when Mona asked him how many eggs did he think he would be laying. Apparently he is not prepared to be a sudden father of around 7-11 babies. Yeah, the temperature of the hatching environment plays a big role in the sex of a turtle. It's also true for my turtle species (diamondback terrapin)

Everyone else exchanges glances, getting ready to argue with him as Leo answers,"Because we're twins." Instead of saying something about it, Draxum just nods and looks back at the television. "You... aren't going to argue with that statement?", Splinter questions Draxum. "Hm? Well, you two aren't technically twins. More like sextuplets or more, because turtles have many eggs at once,"Draxum states.Everyone seems surprised by him not pointing out that Donnie and Leo are obviously different species and such. "Uh..so, you don't disagree with us being twins? Even though we're different species?",asks Draxum. "What?", Draxum responds with an eyebrow raise. Raph states,"Well, we figured you'd argue that Leo and Donnie aren't twins because of being different types of turtle." Draxum cackles, which surprises everyone, and Draxum points out,"They're both half Softshell and half Red-ear Slider. Why would I disagree with them being twins, when they are?".Everyone's jaw drops. Donnie blurts,"What?! Wait- are you saying Leo and I are hybrids?!" Draxum seems amused and continues,"Yes? I got both of you from a breeder. Your biological mother was said to be a Softshell and your biological father to be a Red-ear Slider. You already knew that though, right? ..... right?"Everyone else's faces seem to give Draxum a hint. His eyes widen. "You didn't know?!",He exclaims. "No?!",Leo and Mikey shout. "That means we are twins and fully brothers! By Splinter and our turtle heritage!", Donnie analyzes. "Yes, it does."
