So my current approximations of the sg RainMakers:

Can I be honest, this might be a controversial Kirby opinion but I think... They peaked with Magolor for Boss battles and design... Now I know that's saying a lot considering Star Dream and the blue guy from Forgotten Land exist, but honestly, Magolor's song, background and design (especially Soul design) is iconic.

The scene where it turns all white and his crown upgrades? It is my very first thought if Kirby bosses get brought up. Maybe it's nostalgia speaking but I don't really have much of an attachment to the other bosses. I think they kind of drag on a bit too long, though I do think the inside of Void Termina is also kind of iconic but only for it's stage.

Ok so like, after Magolor, Sectonia has an iconic music piece, I think it's matched or maybe a bit higher on my personal tier list for Kirby boss music. Star Dream's design overall is iconic to me, I love robot stuff. Void Termina's staging is kind of very pretty and the final scene with Elfilis with the truck is pretty cool... But I don't think any of them ever matched up with Magolor for me personally.

Like even past Star Dream I can't remember Void Termina or Elfilis's boss music. I think Kirby music has gotten a bit more... Grandiose? I could be wrong and maybe it's just my taste in music but I think they've kind of complicated a bit more of the simple melody Kirby would have for it's boss music, but I don't know, I'm not a music expert. All of this is just my opinion though

Though I think Star Dream is probably 2nd place though, I just don't think it needed 5 million phases because good lord it's so long. Also I think the difference between it and Magolor's fight is that Magolor's is a lot more personal, since you can use any abilities he throws at you or fight him just as Kirby, while you fight as Halberd against Star Dream. You have to think a lot more on what to do with Magolor's fight compared to Star Dream where you spam A. I don't know where I'm going with this, I just think Magolor's fight is peak, and I still think he has the best Soul Design next to probably Sectonia Soul.

Dear Future Nova,

Being abducted by aliens was one of the greatest experiences I've had so far. Our therapist recommended starting a journal to "process my emotions" so here we are. Most of the details about the event itself are pretty hazy, but I woke up the next day feeling so calm and rested. The Mermaid Princess (CC List)

I was super excited for the new live action 'The Little Mermaid', and I decided to make some cc inspired by it when I couldn't find much out there (especially for base game - the mermaid outfit is a dress, no Island Living needed). I started on most of these before seeing the film, but I tried to make adjustments after watching it.

This is the first time that I've made cc for The Sims 4, so I did the best I could with recoloring existing meshes (a HUGE thanks to those creators!). I made a few cc items way back when for The Sims 2 or 3, but it's been a while. I really enjoyed the process, so hopefully you'll see more creations from me in the future!

The meshes for the recolors are linked below, and the recolor files are attached on Patreon for free (no subscription needed). You'll need both the mesh and recolor for them to work. I think a lot about the fact that either Vidcund or Lazlo has a canonical daughter Nova Curious in TS4. So I named Lazlo and Erin's daughter Nova in my Strangetown and here she is as an adult. I recolored this hair for her too.

how did you do the fancy gradient linework for vash in starfire form? and also, what was your logic behind which parts should be white and which should be black? i've been curious about it for a while, but it only occurred to me that i could ask now

That's a fun one! Drawing Vash's nova mode was an on-the-fly learning experience, so the effect I ended up using was more "whatever works best to my eyes" than anything planned.

Without the colored lineart overlay, with standard black lineart like everyone else, he looked like this:

Not bad, but I really wanted that powerful glowing-from-within look that light lineart can provide, so the first thing I did was take the whole lineart layer, duplicate it and recolor it to his glowy blue shade. This is also the layer I drew the outline of the fire on.

This looked good almost everywhere, but I didn't like what it did to his facial features. It felt weird to make his mouth and nose sort of reverse-outlined, so I soft-erased all the parts that just looked wrong to me.

That was better, but it needed intensifying. So I did two opposing things: I made another copy of the lineart layer, recolored it a dark blue, set it to multiply and whited out the parts I thought looked best with light lineart -

AND I went back to the very base lineart folder and I recolored all his base lineart (outside the deliberately dark sections) to a pale blue to intensify the glow.

The general rule I used was that anywhere a shadowed section touched the outline of the figure (chin, nose, the hair around his face) the lineart needed to be dark to blend with the shadow effect. Underneath all the fire and rain it looks like this:

I also had to play with it when showing him in profile, because I hold that his nose and mouth just didn't look right with white outlines, but I REALLY liked what the white outline did to the eye glow. You can see how I mostly kept to my rule about darkening the lineart where it touched a shadowed section - like the line of his right arm where it touches the shadow of his leg, or the curve of his left shoulder when it overlaps with his chest or the shadows on his hair. Because his facial features were mostly shadowed, I felt comfortable darkening the lineart on them specifically. It also made the effect feel better and more coherent than just darkening the facial features in isolation.

In the version below, you can see why lightening the lines uniformly starts looking really weird in the face area and makes the expression hard to parse. A nose is mostly defined by its shadow and a mouth by the contrast between light teeth and a dark, shadowed interior - if those shadowed areas are flipped to being bright instead it makes the entire face look Off. The lines of the nose no longer make sense, and we see the lightened interior of the mouth as where the teeth must be when that's not at all where they go.

What's cool is that clearly I'm not the only person who noticed this problem, because they used a similar effect in the W.I.T.C.H. comic when a character glowed in a similar fashion! Every other line is full radiant, but the facial features are kept outlined in a color darker than their surroundings!

Transformers: Multiverse #8 - "Wake Up Call"

wada sez: Brandy Dixon had hardly contributed to Mosaic, but ended up being one of the main creatives behind the Multiverse project, acting as a colorist and publisher. Her close friend Betsy Blackie shares an astonishing passion for the Rainmakers, a trio of unnamed Seekers from the cartoon episode “Divide and Conquer” ; Blackie has almost a hundred images relating to the characters on her deviantART account and has apparently spent hundreds of dollars commissioning absolutely stunning custom Rainmaker figures. Notably, in 2015, the two of them would go on to write an Ask Vector Prime post which officially canonised their takes on the characters, with Dixon explaining their thought processes on TFW2005. The green one had already received the name Acid Storm for his toy in the 2008 Universe line. The yellow one—distinct from the then-better-known yellow Seeker, Sunstorm—was given the name Nova Storm by Dixon (originally rendered all as one word, “Novastorm”). Meanwhile, Blackie had originally named the blue one Stormfront; this was changed to Ion Storm for the official post due to “conflicting issues”. It’s been suggested to me that the “conflict” in question was actually with a prominent neo-Nazi website by that name, so yeah, definitely a good call to change that! The Rainmakers were the subject of a boatload of roleplaying/fanfiction by the pair, too lengthy and tangential to mirror here, but I’ve done my best to compile a list of links below if you’re interested, along with some of the earliest art pieces of these characters (recolored from Onishi’s fanart for Revenge of the Fallen Dirge and Thrust) and the clean inks for this strip. Only these snippets survive, as the forum where the roleplaying was taking place appears to be defunct, for better or worse. This particular comic is apparently adapted from a roleplaying snippet shared under the same title a few months prior, set before Dark of the Moon; on TFW2005, Dixon claimed there’d be two more strips, presumably adapting more of the snippet, but was there fuck.
