Ninja Tribunal is a bit of a funny season, all things considered.

I mean the most common assumption I see online is that it was intended to be the final season of the 2003 series before all the executive meddling happened that resulted in Fast Forward's creation and the season getting shelved, but at least one post on Peter Laird's blog concerning the script of the final episode would suggest that they were definitely planning to continue the story after Ninja Tribunal. If anything, season 5 almost feels like one big movie that was created for the express purposes of tying up all the main plot threads from the first four seasons so that when Season 6 rolled around, they could start off fresh with the main story.

Is the reason Yuhsia allows Ch'en and Swire to believe she's an anti-Infected murderer simply because of a childhood grudge when they left? Because that seems... excessive, and something of a flaw of hers.

It's been a long time since Dossoles, but from what I can remember, Yuhsia never really clarified the situation to Ch'en because of a combination of factors:

said childhood grudge

viewing Ch'en’s idealism as naive, shortsighted, and uninformed (which clashes greatly with her own "end justifies the means" mindset)

Ch’en using her as a scapegoat for her anger towards Wei

lashing out at Ch’en from having her own ideals challenged by seeing them reflected through Candela’s vision of Dossoles

Maybe Yuhsia lets them believe she’s a murderer because there’s a self-hating part of her that feels like it’s deserved.

Maybe Yuhsia lets them believe she’s a murderer because she needs a reason to stop thinking about bygone times.

Maybe Yuhsia lets them believe she’s a murderer because why bother to correct them when she knows what she is and what she isn’t? Her goals are noble--she wants to fix Lungmen’s slum problems. She is no more a murderer than Ch’en is.

I also think it might be because she’s not all that great with emotions either.

This sort of strained enmity is directed mostly at Ch'en, though. Yuhsia seems to get along marginally better with Swire. But even that's not enough to clear the air with her.

Yes, I don't doubt that there's still lingering resentment Yuhsia has towards them. And letting that affect her thinking and interactions is a huge flaw. Perhaps she thinks there's no point, that their friendship has long since run its course. Let them continue to think she's a terrible person. Their opinions shouldn't get in the way of her goals.

And that's... pretty sad, honestly.
