So, like I said in my casual review of S2, I absolutely love Raphael x Isabelle. 

At first I really didn’t like the two of them together-- they started off in a really bad way. They were mutually swept up in addiction, and there was gross, manipulative behavior on both sides. So, despite how much I loved the vampire-aesthetic beauty of them together, it was pretty damn toxic for two of my favorite characters. It seemed to bring out the worst in them, and I wanted it to stop for both their sake’s.

But then things began to change.

Despite the blood-drinking, Raphael and Isabelle started to talk. They began to open up to each other. They fought their mutual addiction, and both of them became more vulnerable and emotionally intimate with each other than I’ve seen either of them be with anyone else. And on top of that there was acceptance, affection, self-sacrifice, support, and yes, romance.

A lot of my favorite ships involve characters who I can imagine to be on the ace spectrum like me. It’s just... more relatable to me, and it’s comforting, and I’m hungry for that representation. With Raphael’s character I don’t have to imagine it-- it’s already there, and that is so, so important. And Isabelle’s acceptance of him is everything, too.

Overall I find their relationship beautiful, sweet, angsty, complex, and so important. I just love it. There is still so much story to tell between these two and I really, really, really hope they’re endgame somehow. I want so much more development between them next season.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to ramble about Raphabelle!

when I started shipping it: 2x08, I blame it on “I thought you hated me” “Call it an intense dislike” and Raphael catching her as she fell.

my thoughts: They have so much potential!!! Their scenes are lovely and have such good chemistry, and I wish the show had explored their relationship further.

what makes me happy about them: They care about each other so much. When Raphael sees Izzy in that alley he barely knows her but goes out of his way to save her. When Izzy is going through withdrawal, Raphael is more concerned about her than the blade to his chest. Even when their relationship’s over, Izzy shows up to be with him after his sister dies. Whether they’re together or not, they care about each other deeply and always will and I love that

what makes me sad about them: There are so many moments where they could’ve rekindled their relationship but things went wrong - so many missed opportunities. 

things done in art/fic that annoys me: It annoys me that there’s so little because 90% of the fandom hates them.

things I look for in art/fic: Fighting together. Canon divergence or post-canon fic. AUs where Isabelle is turned into a vampire.

what is their favorite non-sexual activity: Cuddling and trying to cook and dancing. 

who I’d be comfortable them ending up with: Isabelle with anyone who brings her happiness. Raphael with cronuts and sunshine and rediscovering his faith.

my happily ever after for them: Simon and Izzy never get together and eventually Izzy becomes HoTI. Raphael splits his time between rediscovering his faith in the mundane world and being advisor to the new clan leader/the one who mostly deals with Nephilim. That means seeing Isabelle, and between meetings about shadow world relations, helping her on tricky vamp-related cases, and bringing her cronuts when she’s overworking herself, they develop feelings for each other again. And this time, they decide to give things another shot.  It’s not easy or simple – their families worry, the clan & the Shadowhunters see it as a conflict of interest, they have to resist temptation to fall into old patterns – but they deal with it together, and they fight for love like Izzy said.

Maybe it's how gentle Raphael was with Isabelle or how much she needed him in that moment. Out of context this scene was hot as hell. I can't wait to see where this goes. Regardless we need an official ship name ASAP.
