With no formal education except for life itself, Egnéus sees everyday life and art as one inseparable whole. His work is an expression of his colourful and rich life in Milano, Rome and now Athens, filled with friends, his girlfriend and not least his daydreaming which finds its way into his work. Daniel Egnéus “Many artists have influenced me as a child. I really like Arthur Rackham and Gustave Doré. I also like Will Eisner (The Spirit), and I read a lot of comic books, such as the illustrators from Mad magazine, and was, obviously, influenced by that.” - Daniel Egnéus, Quotidiano-Straordinario Artist. Born in 1972 in Sweden, Egnéus has spent 20 years in Prague, London, Berlin, Bologna and Rome and has now made Athens his base. A prolific artist, he has had successful collaborations with clients such as ‘Haagen-Dasz’ (worldwide campaign 2008), ‘BMW' (Awarded Best Art Directed campaign in Germany 2008), ‘Pepsi Cola Espagna’ (limited edition cans and bottle-design 2008), ‘Playboy’, ‘O2 UK’, ‘Marie Claire’, ‘Time Magazine’, ‘Penguin Books', ‘Philip Morris’, ‘Drambuie Whiskey’ for which he gained an award in 2004 and ‘Pori Jazz Festival’ for which he was voted best illustrator in March 2005 by the ‘Association of Illustrators' in the UK. Daniel Egnéus “I usually just draw and see what comes out of it. For my recent exhibition at Zoumboulakis Galleries, my drawings show houses, people, birds … I always use the original sketches because I think this way, the drawings maintain their originality. I work on paper and use crayons, pencils, watercolour and collage. But mostly, I just draw what I see around me; this is what I do.” - Daniel Egnéus, Quotidiano-Straordinario Artist. Egnéus has published numerous books, including ‘The Hot Dog Cookbook’ in France for which he won the ‘Prix Gourmand' (2008) for "Best Illustrated Cookbook in France." In 2004, the Italian publisher ‘Coniglio Editore’ published Daniel's first collection of autobiographical illustrations. In 2005 ‘Sky Channel’ dedicated a 15-minute documentary on his work entitled "From Sweden With Love.” Egnéus’ last exhibition 'As I Walked Out One Morning’ featured a collection of drawings from Athens that depicted his view of the city that has become his home. Egnéus recently sat down and re-read the ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy. Egnéus also produces interior design-concepts and visual arts for public and private spaces.
