Social Media and USF
USF has a pretty significant presence on social media. They have a twitter, Instagram, and Facebook account. Also, they have their own website to update fans and students about information. Their most important social media presence for fans would be Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
USF excites customers on their Facebook page by showing hype videos that are made before each game. These hype videos usually include certain players that have big names on the team, pump up music, and showing the “other” team. On their Facebook page, they also have their 2018 schedule up. USF is playing some big-name teams this upcoming season. This should get fans excited for the new season and the fact that they will be ranked #21 in the college ranking. Also, they have a link to their football game that is in April to start off their spring season hoping that fans will come and watch.
Their Instagram page shows fans at the game, the players doing practice routines, and more hype videos. The reason they show fans videos of their practices is to let fans know that the team is working hard and preparing for the new season.
On Twitter, it’s a lot like their Facebook account where they have articles about their players who are in the draft, their ending ranking in college football, and inspirational quotes.
Their social media is educating customers by updating them on certain players, whether those players are in the NFL, have been to the Superbowl, or how the players are giving back to their community. On Facebook, there are pictures of most of the players going to a local school and hanging out with the kids for a day, and them going to a hospital. It is important to show these events on their social media because it lets fans know that the players aren’t just there to play football; they want to give back to the community.
Their social media helps customers experience products by showing off their apparel on their social media sites. For example, they have posts of their new helmets that they had during the season, they have fans dressed in all USF apparel, thus showing off what USF fan gear people have and the merchandise that is available for sale.
USF social media sites lets customers respond to posts and ask questions. Whether it’s about tickets, how well the Bulls are doing, submitting pictures, letting fans know about spring training games. If you want to send the USF Facebook page a message, you can choose an option with either asking about upcoming events, or checking the price of an event. Their messenger lets customers ask any question they want and are ready to help engage fans and inform them as much as USF can to help fans receive as much information and be engaged with the team as much as possible.
USF is doing really well with keeping fans updating with their players, and keeping fans excited about the upcoming season. I feel like fans are really excited for the 2018 season, and their social media sites do a great job of doing that, however, they can improve with maybe showing more merchandise for sale, or buying from the Facebook site, maybe Twitter could have a livestream with the coach or one of the players, which would give fans the opportunity to talk to them and ask any questions that have ever wanted to know about the USF Bulls football team.

USF has been trying to bring in a bigger fan base to their football games. They have had some trouble in the past years due to the large fan bases of FSU and UF’s football teams (two powerhouse football teams). However, USF has gained a little bit more attention, and hopefully in the 2018 season, there will be more fans in the seats at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. There are three main components as to why the fan base is growing.
One reason is that the USF Bulls orient their games to be family friendly. Most college games are, but USF tends to push more towards it. For example, during tailgating, it isn’t just people eating, drinking beer, and playing corn hole. They have games set up around the parking lot and on the football field for kids to play and have fun before the game starts. Chick-fil-A, Verizon, and the Army have prizes you can win, or they have given away key chains or bracelets. They also have a man who does caricatures for free, and temporary tattoos. Whether it is a butterfly, or the USF Bulls logo on their arm, kids still enjoy it. It’s effective because it  gives the parents time to catch up with their friends, and the kids get to hang out with their friends and burn energy.
Another reason is the games are close to home and is played on an NFL field. USF is a fairly new team to the college sports world, and their campus is far away from where most of the alumni live. The main campus is in North Tampa, Florida, which is about a 40-minute drive from Tampa if there is no traffic. If the stadium was there it would turn into a horrendous disaster. Therefore, USF decided to host their games at Raymond James Stadium where the Tampa Bay Buccaneers play. The stadium can hold a lot more fans and is an easier drive for most people. This is effective and brings more people in because the stadium isn’t so far away, so if the game is at night, people will be able to get home before midnight; also, especially with families, they can take their kids to the games more because the kids will be in bed at a decent hour and won’t have a long car ride home.
Lastly, the biggest rival game that USF has is against the UCF Golden Knights. Their rival game is played during November, and it was recorded as the biggest rivalry game this year (2017). This game alone brought in a ton of fans. Especially students from both campus’, Both teams have their own student sections and bus the students back to campus. (Which is good if the students have been partying or it’s been a long night). Both teams were ranked in the Top 25, UCF being undefeated. Even though USF lost, this still brings in more fans, and will hopefully be leading to a promising season in 2018.
With these three factors, USF has the potential to bring in more fans and create more hype during their football games, thus leading to more marketing and a bigger reputation as a big college football team.
