Uh Oh I Thought About The Music In The Finale Too Hard And It Started Bothering Me Again

ok so aside from one of my favorite scenes in the entirety of mob psycho getting cut from the last episode, a decision which will haunt and torment me until my dying days, my biggest issue with the last episode was always the music and i think ive been able to finally pin down a coherent explanation as to why

disclaimer: i am not a music expert. i was in choir in middle school and i like listening to people who actually know about music talk about music, but this is not a professional opinion so take it with a grain of salt

so first, 99 playing during reigen running towards mob. my problem with this is less the song choice and more that the anime decided to completely change the tone of the entire scene. like, 99 works perfectly for the hype exciting scene they were trying to create! i just dont think this scene should have been hype and exciting. this isn’t a “music is tonally inconsistent” problem so much as a “tone is inconsistent with events unfolding” problem so im not going to put much focus on it.

what IS tonally inconsistent though is the next track that plays after it (timestamped)

this scene is supposed to be not just the reveal that reigen is okay but the reveal that dimple, a character who we’ve spent the last six episode thinking was dead, is alive! and the music they chose is so... sinister??? wouldn’t something more triumphant or energetic fit here??? i get that it has to segway into a really emotional song next so it can’t be too upbeat but wouldnt something like this maybe fit better??? it’s another song associated with dimple possessing someone who isn’t especially powerful to let them achieve something they normally wouldn’t, it’s pretty dramatic, it’s exciting, it has kind of an emotional through line in the back of it with the violins???

the next song is perfect. no notes. the second i heard it in the mob character trailer before season 3 dropped i was like “oh theyre going to use that for reigen’s confession” and i was 100% right. in fact, this song being so perfect for this scene is what makes the next song choice so confusing.

huh? what? why???? on the elementary school level of “well this is labelled mob’s theme and this is mob’s moment of self acceptance so it has to go here” i can maybe understand but it is the most jarring tonal whiplash i have ever felt watching a television show. this is music that we normally here when mob is fighting an enemy, this is supposed to gear us up for conflict. it does not fit the bittersweet catharsis of mob accepting his whole self at all.

ive seen two different edits with different soundtracks i prefer, one with “Passing my heart, I'm getting bigger” (at least im pretty sure thats what its called?  すれ違う心・大きくなったなぁ?) and one with “Mob’s Kindness”. personally, i feel like mob’s kindness would be the best option. for one, one of them already played at an emotionally climactic moment during the final episode last season so it might be a bit weird to do it a second time. second, for when we last heard “mob’s kindness” it actually fits really well with this scene on a couple different levels.

just the title of the song on its own fits with the scene. it’s the first time mob really extends kindness towards himself rather than trying to repress it or smother it in guilt and self loathing. we also have to consider the last place it was used and how that echos this scene. the first time we hear mob’s kindness is in season 2 episode 1, following the line “i made the decision to consider my feelings more”, a line which fits really well with what the “100% shigeo kageyama” moment is trying to get across. “shigeo kageyama” is mob’s repressed power and, more relevantly, his repressed emotions that he’s been bottling up for years now. “mob” flaking apart and forming “shigeo” also kind of visually echos emi’s novel getting ripped apart and brought together again by mob’s power, so that’s another little mirror between these two scenes. mob putting emi’s novel back together is the first time we see him using his powers for another person, not to save them from any sort of threat, but just as an act of simple kindness. it’s the beginning of a realization he has during the mogami arc, these powers arent just a burden, he can use them to help people. and he doesn’t even need to limit it to that, he can just use them to express himself and have fun because they aren’t just tools that can be used, they’re a part of him.

though its not so much that the narritive comes down on Bucky’s side, it’s more that when it comes to those racially tense moments between Bucky and Sam, the show takes a centerist angle. It portrays both sides as equally valid. The producers want us to think that Bucky’s refusal to see the racism factor in Sam’s decision to give the shield up is an equally valid perspective alongside Sam’s conflict on being a mascot to a country that hates him as a Black man. spoiler alert: it isn’t equal. mcu!bucky is just a dick. i was prepared to let it slide in the first ep because yeah okay i can understand in the moment bucky would be upset, but we’re four eps in and this dickhead is still bullying sam over giving up the shield.

comic!bucky would not even recognise mcu!bucky for behaving like an absolute nitwit with zero self-awareness because you’re 100% right. comic!bucky is painfully self-aware of how much he has and can hurt people and does everything he can to prevent that and help people instead.

the inconsistencies in this recent ep alone with bucky as a character are so frustrating. you have Bucky in Wakanda at the begining of the episode asking Ayo to not let him hurt anyone, but then he’s shocked to learn Shuri put a fail safe in his arm??? seriously?? a whole reason he went into hiding in Civil War was so he couldn’t hurt anyone by being a weapon anymore. but suddenly, he’s shocked the Wakandans did [checks notes] exactly what he wanted them to?

Sam and Bucky needed their own limited series to properly establish them as characters independant of Steve and then tfatws should have served as a complimentary series to their induvidual ones. ideally, in the same way that Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, etc all got at least one season of a show on their own to establish the characters and THEN we got the defenders.

But here’s the really fucked up part, anon. If Sam and Bucky got their own shows induvidually before getting one together. You know what would have happened? No one would have watched Sam’s show. You know how Disney knows that? Look at what happened with Luke Cage. Disney/Marvel’s experiment with Netflix taught Disney that if you make shows about Superheroes, the one about the Black hero will rate the lowest.

Sam does deserve his own show. This arc of him reckoning with what the Symbol of Captain America covers up vs what he can make it is stunning and its too complex and rich for it to be sandwhiched between Bucky’s rehab, Wakanda Sharon’s return and whatever the fuck Zemo is here for. Seriously, why did Bucky have to be the one to show Sam Isaiah? Why couldn’t we have a show where Sam discovered this for himself as a Black man, rather than being chaperoned this entire narritive by white men who are CONSTANTLY positioned as people who know more than him about his reality. 

And a huge reason this show SUCKS is because of the Disney Military Industrial Complex. The military is paying for this show so we can’t have any decent exploration or criticism of the systems these characters operate in which is INSANE BECAUSE THESE ARE THE SYSTEMS THEY’RE SHAPED BY.

I’m not gonna talk more on Bucky’s rehab being built on Black emotional labour, but I am beyond angry that the comic!bucky’s very well established mutual character development arc with natasha romanoff was completely disgarded for this racist disney miltary bullshit.

My Response to EruptionFang’s ‘An Honest Opinion Regarding Bumblbee’

To start, I think that everyone in this thread should watch the video, regardless of your opinion on EF or BMBLB, just so you can be sure that I'm being fair to EF's arguments and not putting words into his mouth.

Opening

Fang opens up with talking about his problems with relationship plots or subplots within fiction. This is actually a fair argument to make, and one I do find myself agreeing with. Relationships in entertainment are almost always forced into stories for the sake of having a relationship. Movies that are otherwise about fighting killer aliens or whatever will inevitably end up also having two characters- usually a goofy, snarky male and no-nonsense, stoic badass female- end up falling in love and kissing at the end. I could (and actually have) write an entire paper on why there are problems with A) relationships being forced into every piece of entertainment, and B) the problems with how its usually portrayed. So, yes I do think EF has a good point in this critique. (Also, I know that Blake/Yang obviously doesnt fit the dyanmic I described on how relationships in media are usually portrayed).

Volume 2 and Ship Baiting

Fang then discusses how V2 introduced relationships between characters- both romantic and platonic- as being important to the plot. He especially focuses on what he describes as 'ship-baiting' with Blake and her relationships with Sun and Yang. He spends a bit talking about how the show teases whether or not Blake will be "Straight... or is she maybe gay? Oh wait heres another gay girl- but wait heres this straight guy!"

Now, as a bisexual. I already have a problem with him deciding you have to be one or the other, but thats not really the point. His main issue hes talking about is how RWBY supposedly played up Blake's love life as being teased by the writers for "six years". Which I honestly don't see. Yes, Sun flirts with Blake from time to time, Yang's interactions with Blake are on a level that many see as romantic, Ilia is confirmed to have had (juries still out on if its still there) a crush on Blake, and Adam used to date her. But this was never the main part of Blake's character arc. Her arc has always been about her identity as a faunus and the White Fang, not how many people she can bang over the course of the series. He also talks about how the show wastes time on Blake's relationships with these characters (I guess his point about RWBY foocusing on character relationships doesn't get to apply here), which feels like a weird argument to me. If Blake didn't have such a close relationship with these four mentioned: Yang wouldn't have lost her arm, which lead to her character arc from 4 and 5 in a way; Sun wouldn't have followed Blake, which was why Blake's arc turned out the way it did; Ilia wouldn't have turned good, which means Blake's parents would likely be dead now; and Adam wouldn't have been as interesting an antagonist is he didn't have a personal connection to Blake.

Fang ends of this section talking about how lesbians are a 'safe' LGBT representation for writers in fiction, which again I agree with. This is another critique of entertainment at large that is sadly true- lesbians are 'hot' and fetishised so much by straight men esepcially that yeah, you're less likely to get backlash for that than for making a man gay or for having someone be trans. This is still a form of homophobia- lesbians aren't really allowed to be a normal couple, they have to be doing 'hot' stuff to appeal to men. So again, I agree with Fang on a critique of entertainment at large. And once again he says Blake and Yang are gay, as if us bis don't exist.

Main Argument

Fangs main thesis on why Bumblebee is a bad thing to become canon is that it "takes away from RWBY's dynamic". As he puts it:

"Now all of a sudden you have two people who care for each other more than they do the other team members."

He talks about how Yang grabs Blake's hand in the Apathy episode to lead her away from danger, and says this is bad because Yang ignored the others still in the room. I have two problems with this argument.

First, Yang was directly next to Blake, but farther away from Ruby and Weiss. She grabbed the closest hand, which was Blake.

Second: consider what had happened just before that scene. When the apathy were in the cellar with everyone, who was clearly the most affected by them? Not Weiss, and certainly not Ruby. Blake was literally unable to even stand for a while, and was hit by the apathy much harder. She was in a weaker state than anyone else, so Yang grabbing Blake's hand does actually have a reason within the show outside of shipping.

"Am I honestly to believe that Ruby or Weiss would do anything similar to what Yang is constantly doing... Its impossible to say that [Ruby] would risk her life for [Blake]."

YOU JUST TALKED ABOUT THE APATHY ARC. It wasn't Ruby herself being attacked by the apathy that set off her silver eyes- it was Blake. At the end of V6, Weiss and Ruby both share a moment to comfort Blake after she was still reeling from having killed someone directly. 6 in general deserves props from me for really showing every relationship between these friends- Ruby and Blake hugging at the end, Ren hugging Yang when he sees they're still fine, etc. Now, would I like to see Ruby and Blake interact more? As a ladybug fan, yes I would. But that doesn't mean we've not been shown that they do care a lot for each other. Fang is in my opinion being disingenuous when he says this.

He then says that Renora is an okay ship because "They're not main characters." Except that wasn't his argument about why BMBLB was a problem. He is being inconsistent here. Why doesn't he care that Ren and Nora now have someone they have a much deeper relationship with than Jaune? What is the difference?

And on that topic- does Fang think Ruby and Yang shouldn't be on a team together? As siblings, they care more about each other than say, Yang about Weiss. So doesn't that hurt the team dynamic? What's different there?

He spends a bit at the end just sort of ranting that having them be gay is forced diversity which is... a very dangerous stance to take, honestly. He's basically throwing out all of his 'I don't mind them being a thing because they're gay...' arguments because, he is pretty much now saying 'Well its different for them because they're gay...' I know this sounds nitpicky, but it is a blatant disregard of everything he had been saying up til now. I don't think EruptionFang is a homophobe or that he outright hates gay people- but I do think this specific part at the end just sort of sounds like the sort of rants you hear from far right homophobes.

He finishes up by talking about how all shipping in a show is fanservice to the audience- which, again, I agree. Shipping is fanservice and done for the audience to enjoy, so yeah he's right.

Overall, it feels like Fang is holding BMBLB to a higher standard than he does other ships and relationships. He outright admits that Renora is different to him, but the reason he gives for why it's different is a reason that wasn't connected to why he dislikes BMBLB. This makes his arguments seem dishonest, or at least as if he doesn't know himself what his reason is.

I want to reiterate- I don't think Fang hates gay people. But I do think that subtle homophobia- assumptions that everyone is gay or straight with no room for bisexuals, for instance- is influencing his opinion.

How to spot a recast (Iplehouse skin tones and faceups)

Alrighty everybody I decided to put this together to help y’all spot recasts that are tan skin tones. Please know that I’m only using Iplehouse dolls as references because that’s all I have to compare with. All my dolls are from Iple so I can’t give proper warnings with other companies. I’m sorry. This post is going to be photo heavy so I’ll put it under a readmore, but for the first recast awareness post where I compared a recast to a legit body, you can find that here on my personal blog.

I will also be discussing some faceup things I have noticed with recasts, as in the recast comes with a faceup when bought new--not done by a artist.

Okay so when it comes to Iplehouse tan resins, they have Peach Gold, Real Skin, Light Brown, and Ebony. I have not seen ebony as much with recasts, but’s still out there. I’ll be going over the other three colors in detail since I own them, have photos, and found tan recasts that are similar to those. I am not promoting recasts by inserting photos of them, and got these photos from ebay where the dolls were explicitly stated as being recasts.

1: Peach Gold. PG is the shade after normal on the darker spectrum of Iplehouse’s colors. It’s a peachy pale skin tone with warm golden undertones. It also comes in the “glow” option where its partially transparent for a more realistic look, and the glow options tend to lean more on the warmer end. PG is pretty consistent in color from batch to batch, I own 3 PG dolls and they’re all very similar. Here is my SID Grace (2017)  who is the regular PG, first photo is taken with flash, second is my normal house lighting that is on the yellow side, and last is with flash and with my glow PG Mari (2016).

(ignore that they’re all kinda piled on my couch hahaha) As you can see next to the glow PG, there’s more pink and less gold. Now, here’s a couple photos of a tan recast Grace (same sculpt) to compare to.

(sorry for the bad quality, ebay mobile is like that), as you can see the recast tan is darker than PG, but VERY warm like it. So since its darker, lets compare to the next skintone from Iplehouse.

2: Real Skin RS is the medium of the darker shades, it’s a wonderful tan color leaning on the olive side. It has a lot of yellowy green undertones and reminds me of a latte with lots of milk in it. Its the most consistent tan color, I have two dolls in this color and several parts all ordered from different times and they all match perfectly. It also comes in the glow option which is more warm on the yellow side and a shade darker, I don’t have a doll in the glow for a comparison. ALSO important to note is that Iplehouse dolls in PG, RS, and light brown made before 2014 did have a soft glow to them because they were made with french resin. Iplehouse switched to matte colors in 2014 due to difficulty with the french resin, and in 2016 they introduced the glow line which is not french resin. Okay so lets look at some photos! Here is Josh, my SID Edan (2015) and Rhys my FID Rex (2018). First photo is Josh with flash, second is him in my normal house lighting, third is Rhys next to a window with natural light, third is him with flash next to my light brown Bianca (2016).

As you can see lighting makes a big difference with this tone but it always remains an olive color with yellow undertones. It does not match the orange base of the recast Grace I showed above or the recast FID Rex (same sculpt as Rhys) I am going to post below. You can also see that compared to light brown, theres a big contrast and light brown isn’t orange toned either, just warm.

Again, it’s a very orange, missing the headplate but since those are now being recreated by recasters they don’t matter *insert upside down smiley face here*. The resin is shiny all over, and also isn’t consistent in color throughout the doll. The chest, eblow peanuts, and head are darker. I wanted to include the description because the seller mentions that he has no seam lines which is not something you’ll see on legit Iplehouse dolls. They have seams because Iple doesn’t like to leave sanding marks. Now lets move onto the darkest color I have reference photos of.

3: Light Brown. LB is the second to last of the tans, in 2015 they darkened the color a bit and it is the most inconsistent color out of all their resins. I have 3 LB dolls, and two match while one is a little lighter and more warm toned (you saw her above). LB is dark, warm but not orange, and reminds me of milk chocolate. It also comes in the glow option but again I don’t have a doll in that color haha. Here are some photos of Rex my YID Chris, he’s the newest LB doll I have, first pic is with flash, second in my house lighting, third is compared to PG and RS.

With flash, he shows more yellowy tones, but without it shows his true color despite my bad house light haha, and the last one I feel is a good comparison to show that he’s darker than the tan recasts come in (yes I know this can vary from recaster but majority seem to be around that same deep orange color).

Now I’m going to talk about a few skin tones I don’t have good comparisons of but have noticed things: White: Iple’s white isn’t fully white, it’s paler than normal but it has pink undertones and when it yellows it goes really yellow, its matte as well. Recast white is paper white and glowy. Normal: Iple’s normal is very pink and usually mellows within the first year or two, when it yellows it yellows out to a nice color, kinda like a very pale olive. It’s also matte. Recast normal is a porky pink unlike how legit normal is a normal with LOTS of pink undertones, recast normal is literally like a light pink with some yellow added in to try and balance, or its the opposite where its very yellow with hardy any pink, but one consistent thing is that its not matte, its glowy because its Chinese resin. Ebony: Iple’s ebony is SUPER dark and cool toned with a good mix of blue and red undertones, when it yellows it doesn’t green it more “cools” as the blue tones take over and it still looks realistic. Recast ebony isn’t anywhere as dark and is again super warm. I haven’t seen many in this shade so thats all I can say on that.

Faceups. Things I’ve noticed is that faceups from recasters always have this fake plastic kinda look to them, where they look like they were stamped on. One recaster colors eyebrows purple. Another one rips off Iple’s faceups but does poor quality on it. Another uses sparkles under the sealant or glossy sealant. Look at the recasts I posted above, the faceups look stamped on. Please note all my dolls except one currently have faceups by me, but here’s some old photos (of my dolls) comparing Iple’s faceups to some other recasts I found on ebay. Legit’s up first:

For Iplehouse OG faceups, everything is consistent with colors, its all blended nicely, natural, and the linework is super neat and thin (iple expose your secrets to me PLS). Anyway, these are all over 4 years old, and since then Iple has changed their style a bit, but its all still very high quality. Here’s the recasts:

Set 1: stamped on look with heavy linework and blushing, ultra saturated colors, and “sharp” eyebrows and lashes. Also the eyebrows arent even, something I’ve never seen Iple do (again Iple faceup artist reveal your secrets to me).

Set 2: purple brows! those eyebrows are PURPLE guys, so is the shading around the last ones eyes. Colors are off, looks rushed, and again thick and heavy linework. 

Okay thats all I have to add. I hope this helps you out and again, all these photos are from ebay recasts for sale, the photos aren’t stolen ones I triple checked. Please reblog this because now ebay thinks I want to buy recasts and keeps sending me emails about them.

behind the song: this song was written just before they got back together at mia and chances wedding. the song is a candidly honest telling of how no matter what happens between herself and angel she knows after it all she’ll go back to him. there’s something that consistently draws them together every single time and there’s no use in fighting what is inevitable --they belong together.  “what’s the point in hiding everybody knows we’ve got unfinished business,” every single time they’ve gone through hard times or a breakup there’s one general consensus from their friends “they’ll get back together, they belong together”. they will never be finished. 

2) NEVER FADE  ❝ you know i can see the pain inside of you, i know i’m not going anywhere, once the silence hits the air you’ll know it too, i know you never asked for this, who ever would? and you’ve carried all of this weight alone, you thought you should // i wish i could give you an answer say the right words and it’d make you feel better but i’m just me nothing perfect or special and i can’t make it right today but just know i’m here and i’ll never fade away ❞

behind the song: this song was one of the last songs to be added to her album although marnie isn’t someone that comes across as soft, because she’s generally not to most people, she is incredibly soft and gentle for angel. its her promise to him that she might not be able to fix his problems or make everything okay even thought she wishes she could the one thing she can do is be there for him and not go away.  “and i hope you know that i’ll always be someone to lean on and when life gets heavy i’ll carry you,” is essentially her wedding vows to him.

3) FETISH ft GUCCI MANE ❝ baby take it or leave it but i know you won’t leave it because i know that you need it when i look in the mirror baby i see it clearer why you wanna be nearer // i don’t see a point in blaming you if i were you i’d do me too ❞

behind the song: this is a more tongue and cheek take on angel and marnies relationship, especially at the beginning of their dating. it’s very much a flashback to their push and pull start.  “i’m not surprised, i sympathise, i can’t deny, your appetite,” she’s basically saying she’s not shocked when someone is thirsty for her lets just be blunt. but the biggest sign it’s about angel and the start of their relationship is “i push you out and you come right back,” which is exactly what they were like at the start. constantly saying they weren’t together and it was just a hookup and pushing each other away before running right back to each other.

4) SURVIVORS ❝ you built me from a broken heart, with bricks you made from broken parts, you fixed the pain so we could start so now what’s mine is ours, i still have proof in forms of scars // my sweet devoted counter part, we count each others shooting stars  ❞

behind the song: if you know marnie and angel you know they have both been to hell and back, although it’s not an excuse for their actions it is a reason to offer for the way they act.  but upon meeting and taking care of each other they put each other back together in a way no one else could. in this song she calls herself and her husband survivors of extreme pain and hurt from their pasts saying that now they’ve put each others broken parts together “whats mine is ours” they have built a family, a shared space of safety. 

5) COLOGNE ❝ there’s a reason you’re everywhere, breathe you in like you’re in the air, maybe you should call off today, give your girl some time to play, from my ceiling to the floor my body knows that you’ve been here before // ‘cause you’re keeping me safe and warm even when i’m home alone wearing nothing but your cologne ❞

behind the song: marnie is a very clingy person when she loves someone, she’s also a very affectionate and sexual person. in other shocking news; fires hot. this song is just a fun and flirty song about who? her man. duh.  “every time i think about you i can feel my hand give in,” she’s essentially saying that when she’s alone she gets down n dirty with herself thinking about him. lets not sugar coat things. great. 

6) BAD LIAR ❝ I see how your tension builds, it’s like looking in a mirror, your touch like a happy pill, still all we do is fear, what could possibly happen next? can’t we focus on the love, paint my kiss across your chest if you’re the art i’ll be the brush ❞

behind the song: this song is a nostalgic, albeit more self aware, reminiscence of their earlier relationship. so before they got together there was a period where they had a fight and didn’t see each other for like 2 weeks because they’re dumbasses. this song is her reflecting back on then and basically confessing she saw him in every face.  “i was walking down the street the other day trying to distract myself but then i see your face oh wait thats someone else,” because even though she hated to admit it she looked for him in everyone. now knowing where they are as a couple she says “still all we do is fear //can’t we focus on the love” she wonders why they ever hesitated when this was waiting for them.

7) LY4L ❝ that night on your roof, we were dancing, no shoes, i told you my hearts got some damage, guess that’s when i knew, you looked at me said it’s cool, said baby it’s nothing i can’t handle, you and me we got that kinda love, i mean it, the way you know me like nobody does, i’m serious, you show me the good parts of myself ❞

behind the song: this is one of the happiest most upbeat songs on the album, the way it sounds is the way being in love with angel feels. this song is a free/dancey type anthem where she expresses how easy loving angel is. “i swear you always make it better, i want this shit forever, whenever we’re together i wanna stay here all night,” no matter how bad she’s gotten in her dissociative disorder or bipolar disorder there’s one grounding anchor in her life. her husband.  “all i wanna do is stay here with you, i wanna be here with you and am i crazy if i say i wanna love you for life?” she’s essentially saying what everyone knows, she’s whipped. 

8) TRUST NOBODY ft CASHMERE CAT && CHANDLER @ofchxnce ❝ lying down now i’m in the back, tinted windows sittin’ in the back seat, you know i’m a freak right? hit you on a free night, i know what you keep tight, you don’t wanna leave right? // cause you know i don’t trust nobody, i know you don’t trust nobody said only i can touch your body ❞  

behind the song: marnie’s natural musical disposition is spoken-singing and sexy because that’s who she is, she’s a very sexual and liberated person. this song is no different. marnie has never been an easy person to win her trust, but neither has angel. and they both don’t trust nobody but they were both very possessive and jealous of anyone else touching their person so they learnt to trust each other over time. 

9) GOOD TO YOU ft ANGELOS @ofangelos ❝ i’m in my marquise diamonds, i’m a marquise diamond, could even make the tiffany jealous // gonna wear that dress you like skin-tight do my hair up real, real nice and syncopate my skin to how you’re breathing // let me show you how proud i am to be yours leave this dress a mess on the floor ❞ 

behind the song: of course she has a song with her man on her album. this is probably her favourite song on the album because it’s the most them sounding.  “got a touch that makes you never wanna leave --so don’t,” they have always been drawn and attracted to each other so it only made sense to stay, didn’t it?  “ain’t worried about no press and ain’t worried about the next chick, they love the way you dress and ain’t got shit up on you,” a stand out line from Angels verse where he rewords “trading quantity for quality,” because no one else can stand up next to them. what they have can’t be replaced by anyone else.

10) HANDS TO MYSELF ❝ 'cause all of the downs and the uppers we keep making love to each other and i’m tryin’ i’m tryin’ i’m tryin’ // the doctors say you’re no good, but people say what they wanna say and you should know if i could, i’d breathe you in every single day // can’t keep my hands to myself I MEAN I COULD BUT WHY WOULD I WANT TO? ❞

behind the song: this album has a naturally cheeky and flirty tone to it and this song is one of the biggest stand outs in that tone. this song in it’s entirety is a cheeky way of saying you’re infatuated with someone. despite people saying they’re no good, despite the ups and the downs and the inconsistencies at times you’re completely magnetised to this person. and she’s said she can live without angel, she just doesn’t want to. same being she could keep her hands to herself, but like, look at angel  “why would i want to?”

11) NOBODY ❝ no kiss, no lips, no feel, no rush could keep my high i swear no one can love me like you do // my darkest sin you’ve raised release and it’s all because of you, i don’t know what it is but you’ve pulled me, no one compared, could ever begin // i don’t want nothing else not when i’ve had the best, i don’t want nothing else ‘cause you’ve shown me the best ❞

behind the song: an airy and sweet song explaining her inner most genuine feelings for her relationship. there’s nothing or no one in the world that can make her feel what her partnership can with her husband. she could have different drugs to get her high and give her a rush but nothing makes her feel as much as his love. she could have anyone else to wake up to, to touch and to feel but no one compares to him. “nobodies ever lead me to the truth, like you.”

12) DO IT ❝ damn i wish i didn’t feel so hypnotised but when i look at you baby it’s justified, so i take what i want and i give what i’ve got, to hell with all the rules that keep us civilised // i’ll be your tonto you’ll be my clyde, we’ll be together forever we’ll ride // if i had a choice, if i had my way boy you know we’d do it every single day.  ❞

behind the song: marnie is a whole ass ride or die and the line “we’ll be together forever we’ll ride,” is no lie. she’s the type of person that will ride with you until the very end. and this song showcases her newest, healthiest addiction to date. love. because when you’re in love, when your body is drawn to someone you wanna feel them, you wanna be that close every day because it’s a high nothing else can give you.

13) ANXIETY ft EDEN O’CONNOR ❝ if you hate someone put your hand up, if you’re scared put your hand up. feel like i’m always apologising for feeling, like i’m out of my mind when i’m doing just fine and my exes all say that i’m hard to deal with, i admit, it’s true  ❞

behind the song: it’s no secret marnie struggles with her mental health, it’s not exactly something she has ever tried to hide. and in this song with the head of her record label she discusses candidly what it’s like to live every day life with anxiety. marnie feels her emotions very very vividly, she’s not someone who has muted emotions and that can sometimes come back to bite her.  “i feel like i’m always apologising for feeling,” is very raw and real knock at feeling the need to apologise for her mental health. it’s a self aware acknowledgement that she’s hard to handle but she’s trying.

- The director tried to move 1 (one) set piece and then said ‘I hate doing stage crew, I don’t wanna do stage crew anymore’ and Tom, in a whisper of barely-concealed rage, was like ‘I don’t want to do stage crew and set design and lights and sounds and projections and-’ and I cant even finish this list bc I cant remember every thing he does but I was just dying honestly this poor guy needs to escape omfg

- The opening scene for ‘Magic To Do’ and shit. okay. listen. It opens on a black screen with whitehanded gloves coming out and then Tom’s putting a black light on them, and THAT looks awesome. But....moving the screen and the screen itself look like garbage oh my God

- The kid she cast as Pippin. listen. He’s funny and I like him. If you’ll refer back to my in the heights posts, he was Sonny

- ...remember how I also said the kid playing Sonny was very talented but seemingly untrained and thus the weakest link in the main cast

- Listen, he’s good, but the kid that understudied for Pippin yesterday was a much better singer, and he literally didn’t even know any of the songs he was singing...I just have QUESTIONS, you know?

- Steven, who’s playing Charlemagne...his mic just decided it Didn’t Feel Like It today

- Oh my God so the two Leading Player’s right. Okay, the one kid, I’ve known him since he was like, ficking 9 or something and he was practically born on a stage. Amazing projection. His mic died halfway through the rehearsal and we literally didn’t even notice. He’s solid. But the GIRL. I love her but she’s so INCONSISTENT. First she’ll sing too quietly, so we’ll turn her mic up....and then she’ll decide to be loud, so we have to turn it down....over....and over....and over...oh my God. And considering her scene partner is SO LOUD like it’s just. Messy.

- A lot of the dances have potential to be good but it just seems like no one in the cast,,,,,knows them

- There were so many moments where Tom would be like ‘they need to _____’ and it fell on death ears and then less than five minutes later someone else would suggest that idea and he’d be like “OH. OH DO YOU THINK THATS A PLAN???” lmao

- asdfgh they got in their places for ‘War is a Science’ and Tom was like ‘lol they way they’re set up reminds me of La Vie Boheme’ but then they....started doing the dance and we were like WHAT THE SHIT bc it was TOO CLOSE to our La Vie Boehme lmaoooo

- I’m so hung up on the decapitated head that talks to Pippin like I really don’t remember that ever happening and no one will tell me why it’s happening omfg

- The directors baby grandson is Always Here but I got to ‘talk’ to him tonight and like....words cannot truly express but this is literally the most adorable child on the planet??? He deadass has anime eyes, guys, wtf

- Tom decided today, after 8? 9? years of knowing me, to suddenly start calling me “Moll” but when he’s across the room no one can fucking tell if he’s saying “Moll” or “Mom” so we were confused half the night

- There’s been so much staple gun drama for some reason and my mother literally ran into the directors husband at Lowes because of it

- Oh my God,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,the scene where Pippin’s like banging everyone in the country

- So what’s SUPPOSED to happen: He has a dance with a bunch of girls, some guys come out and join the mix, the dancers pair off and get into ~~~suggestive~~~ poses until Pippin becomes tired and disgusted and decides Sex Isn’t The Only Reason For Living

- What’s ACTUALLY happening: He’s got this weird dance with like twenty girls, right...And then six boys come out...and line up and they do this lean thing while Pippin’s on his knees (”he’s EXPERIMENTING”) and then the girls have another dance break but it’s just like. random dance moves. Like, I’m NOT game for having a bunch of teenage girls pantomime the fucking kama sutra out here but the dance makes no sense and with the fact there’s only six ensemble boys who do Barely Anything it just reads less as ‘Pippin tires of sex’ and more as ‘Pippin gets chased away by a bunch of lesbians who were sending a lot of mixed signals’ asdfghjk

- All the body parts were thrown onto and taken off the stage by the tiny little kid playing Theo and it shouldn’t have been so funny but it WAS omg

- This cast is NEVER CENTERED onstage and it’s driving me INSANE like there’s always a few stranglers on stage right and it looks so sloppy but my complaints are falling on death ears rip

- The foam sun....took like 20 minutes to hang up
