What are your favorite things about the ship?

The dynamic is just everything I have wanted in life. There’s an age gap, they’re enemies and they look gorgeous af together. Sign me the fuck up. 

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

If we erase LOK, I could see these two being canon. I mean not that the creators would ever do it but I could see it! Katara has a need to fix everyone and Ozai is in need of like a full renovation??? I could see him manipulating her and then surprise they both like each other. I don’t think this is as much of a stretch as everyone thinks it is...

7. What do they get up to on a night out?

They get dressed up and go out just to let everyone else know that they are still the best looking couple. Ozai obviously loves a good outfit (Phoenix King ensemble). Katara also loves getting dressed up as we see through her multiple outfit changes. 

I would love for Ozai to treat Katara to fancy dinners and shows, but I could also see these two being pretty competitive and going to carnivals and wasting all of their money on games neither of them can win. 

18. When they fight, how do they make up?

Ozai would probably rather ignore it, but Katara would want to talk the issue out in a normal, healthy way. So she would get him to sit down and hash it out and they would probably realize that one of them overreacted to something that wasn’t that big of a deal. 

28. Why do they get jealous?

Katara is a pretty confident character, but I think she would be jealous of Ursa. I personally hc that Ozai had some feelings for Ursa and that would be a tough pill for Katara to swallow. It’s hard dating someone who has been married and had children with someone else. 

I could see Ozai getting jealous over the fact that Katara would be at her prime as he is starting to decline. Not only in regards to his age, but also bending. Katara can blood bend when she’s a preteen. So I could see Ozai being a little petty on multiple fronts.

This is pulled from my Sokkla fic I’ll Take Care of You. It had been a really lighthearted fic up until this point and I thought everyone was going to be like wtf is going on here. 

But the readers accepted that that’s where the story was gonna go and I’ve since added more angst on top of that. Overall, Sokkla shippers are very laid back and understanding so I head to that corner of the fandom whenever I need some comfort/support.

OC for sure. I’ve never been into reading reader inserts and I would have no idea how to write one. It seems really complicated. I have a few Huan Beifong x OC in my drafts, but I’ll probably never publish them.

5. Do you have any poly ships?

The Freedom Fighters! Specifically, Jet, Smellerbee and Longshot. They naturally have this dynamic of loving and caring for eachother and treating each other as equals. I've read a few other poly pairings in the fandom, but the Freedom Fighter ones are by far the the best representation of caring for multiple people in a relationship.

6. How do you feel about love triangles?

I'm down for them. I rarely write them, because I don't have the skill to add yet another layer of drama in my fics, but I enjoy when other people incorporate them.

20. Talk about a ship you feel alone in shipping.

Ty Lokka (Ty Lee and Sokka)! I They are so cute together. They have actual chemistry in canon and they have astrology gf/stock market bf vibes. I ship it so hard, but I will row row row my little boat by my damn self.

How did I miss this? Could you give me your thoughts about Katara?

1. A headcanon I currently have about them.

Katara and Ty Lee would not immediately get along. We see bits and pieces of this in the show. Katara calls Ty Lee a circus freak, so there’s good opportunities for drama with those two. 

2. A headcanon I use to have about them.

I’ve just always seen Katara as the self righteous, goody two shoes of the group.

You’re expecting me to talk about Ozai, but I am going to say Aang. I definitely ship Katara/Ozai, but I read Kataang for the first time last week and it made sense and was well written. It was obviously smut-tastic, but that is a given with me at this point. 

It was hard for me to see Aang as an adult character for most of my time in this fandom, but Tumblr definitely helped me visualize that better and Kataang is not as bad or annoying of a ship as I thought it would be. 

4. A person I use to ship them with.

Zuko. I mean. I read Zutara here and there still. The whole enemies to lovers good girl/bad boy trope caters specifically to me.

I like that Katara is passionate about her bending, the people she loves, equality. She represents so much to a lot of people.

15: What did you learn from writing this fic?

Even though I wrote this as a joke I actually did learn a lot, but I’ll keep it brief. The next time I write Ozai, I’ll write him a better storyline than I did in Conquering. I was just trying to put something out quickly and it was the easiest/most logical storyline that came to my head which probably says something about me, but don’t analyze that. But I know you’ve posted/rb’d some things about why authors write Ozai as rapey... like he’s a bad guy, but why do we do it? I really don’t appreciate Ozai enough as a character, so if I ever go at it again, I’ll try to do something that makes him more fleshed out, well rounded and interesting, because I’m capable of doing better.

ABO! I like reading it, but it seems kind of complicated with all the dynamics... I have tried my hand at it, but I want to go like full blown ABO fic.

5. Share one of your strengths.

OOOOooooh. Hm.... I’m good at writing friendships. In my multichapter fics I try to incorporate a strong supporting cast. It’s more fun and adds a bit more to the story.

How do you feel about crack?

I love reading crack. I don’t write it well, but I love reading other people’s crack. 10/10 recommend.

What are your thoughts on non-con and dub-con?

So... I like reading and writing dub-con/non-con. I will literally read any fanfiction and I enjoy most of it.

I know there are hard and fast rules to consent, but there are also grey areas and I tend to live in the grey area. My favorite “dub-con” scenes are drunk/high sex. It just lends itself typically to a good and brief story, for example Off to a Good Start by wrongfun (scumtrout).

There are some non-con/dub-con fics that are written so beautifully, impeccably and sometimes realistically. There are some folks who really are artists in the fandom and their art shouldn’t be diminished just because they portray sex a certain way. One fic that I LOVE and is just beautiful is Claimed Fire by Arselle (Ellesra) and cupofcoffin . It’s Zukka but it is a piece of art and I am waiting on the update...

I’ve been pretty open here and on ao3 with my own life experiences and I think we would all think that I would be negatively affected by these types of stories, and I sometimes worry that by writing them I’m condoning this behavior somehow, but I am problematic, life is problematic, etc, etc.

There are times when I’m more easily triggered so if something is tagged dub-con, non-con I may just save it for a time when I’m in a good head space or other times when I’m in pain I like to read about others in pain too. I’m fucked up sorry not sorry.

Is there any ship in atla that you wouldn't write for/that you don't like?

Is there any ship you wouldn’t write for?

I think the short answer is no? And I’m not counting stuff like Iroh x Tea or Cabbage Man x cabbages...

I’m willing to write whatever people ask for. I just struggle to write certain characters more than others, because I haven’t found something to relate to in them yet, so it makes it difficult to write from their perspective. If someone requests anything with Aang or Toph it takes me forever to write, but I like stretching in that way. It gives me a chance to learn more about characters I would typically disregard. 

Is there any ship in atla that you don't like?

Of course! I definitely have my personal preferences. I don’t really delve into ships that involve  Katara, Toph, Aang or Suki. There are exceptions to this though. Zutara was my OTP as a child and I’m really into Zukaang right now. I can be convinced to ship anything and I’ll read anything just out of curiosity. 

I am inherently hardwired to ship villains (Zhao, Ozai) or just characters that I relate more to personally (Azula, Sokka, Ty Lee, Zuko).

5) a ship you like but can’t find content for because it’s a fanpol fave?

The first time I answered I said Zhayu, but now that I think about it Hukki (Huan x Ikki) actually qualifies. There is almost no content for it and it’s a cute ship, but it gets massive amount of hate. People are like “ew they have a huge age difference.” I actually think it’s more like ten years, which is fairly normal. The art for this ship is super cute and wholesome. I’m probably the raunchiest of the crew, but I don’t think this ship deserves to get shit on like it does. More people would make content for it, if people weren’t on some quest to label everything as problematic. Let me just enjoy sunshine girl and emo boy in peace! 

8) a character you think did nothing wrong but fandom demonizes?

This is such a loaded question- Azula, Mai, Jet. And I know people can have their own head canons and stuff. I personally didn’t like Jet and Mai, up until like last year. Fandom definitely demonizes Azula and Jet the most. Jet especially as the toxic ex, but Mai deserves more love than she gets. She actually has loads of personality, she just probably doesn’t express it in a way that we’re used to seeing on TV. I could rant forever, but these three are my babies and I try my best to write about them in ways that give them dimension. 

9) a character that did a lot of things wrong in canon that you think fandom woobifies?

Answered this one already and said Iroh and Zuko. Let me think of one more. 

Okay, I know this question says fandom, but I am guilty of doing this too, so I’m gonna come for myself. I think I tend to overcompensate for how I hated Jet, so now I’m like “He did nothing wrong,” when he did in fact do things wrong...

🔥 TLOK

Proxissima up in here with the spicy ass asks 🔥🔥🔥

So I watched Korra when it first came out and I was like this is trash. Blah blah blah. 

I rewatched it in 2020, because what else was I supposed to do? And I actually like TLOK at face value. 

Is it as good as Avatar? No... but is it a show I enjoy? Yep.

I like Korra’s BDE. She ain’t fucking around and I like that about her. Korra is a more interesting/relatable protagonist to me than Aang (Imma get kicked out of the fandom, but I critiqued Iroh this morning, so what more do I have to lose???)

The one thing I think TLOK did really well were the villains. I mean come on. Zaheer, Amon, Unalaq are fantastic, interesting (and good looking villains). Don’t even get me started on Daddy Kuvira. The creators didn’t have to go that hard, but they did. They had to scrap the episode on Kuvira’s backstory and we were robbed! 

My least favorite thing about the TLOK is that they didn’t do as strong of a job with character development as ATLA. Like in Avatar, you really got to know and feel for so many of the characters. Even minor ones (cabbage man, Teo, Haru, etc.) TLOK didn’t even come close to that and the personalities that they did develop were in my opinion kind of flat (Asami, Mako, Iroh II, I could go on..). It’s like they put all their effort into giving Korra, Bolin, Varrick and Eska overwhelming personalities that they kind of forgot about everyone else. 

I also strongly dislike Suyin/Zaofu and I have an intense love for Varrick, but I’m going to cut myself off now. Those are different posts for different days.
