maybe this is just me fully projecting but the way i view this scene, is that she isnt used to writing home or talking to her parents (or just dad?) about her everyday happenings

she might write home once in a while about like graduation, or marriage, you know one of those big milestones - something the parents expect her to write home about

but even though her life is exciting and full of adventure every day, its just that its her everyday - something she already didnt write home about so it would feel weird to start now

and some things she couldnt even start explaining i feel like the whole vash thing would take multiple letters to fully encapsulate

she doesnt realise her parents would be happy to hear anything

*Meryl voice* Yeah I just have nothing to write about. Yeah, nothing really that important has happened. I mean, sure, there hasn't been a moment's peace since I took up this assignment, Milly and I knocked out a couple of bandits, and we both nearly died on an out-of-control sand-steamer but. You know. Nothing to write home about.
