The number of comments on a tiktok post listing passages from Snape's Worst Memory asking "Is this canon? Is this from a fanfic? Is it fanmade? Where is this from?" is just wild to me
Like sure I don't perhaps expect everyone in the world to be able to remember the Snape-centric passages as if they're religious texts but I feel like people only want to query its veracity when it's Snape having a moment that elicits sympathy and explains his more than understandable dislike of the Marauders

Marauders stans/Snaters: I can excuse s*xual harassment, but I draw the line at calling someone a moodblood once in a moment of huge distress.
Me: You can excuse s*xual harassment?
That's how most of my interactions in the comments of my Snape TikToks go. Bonus points if they also can excuse bullying in general as long as the bullies are rich and conventionally attractive, or just ignore it for the Marauders but make up extra mean stuff for Snape.

I'm going to say something absolutely controversial:
Severus is neither particularly short, nor particularly tall.
He's just your average, 5'9"-ish guy.

There was this HP creator on TikTok that I was starting to really like. But then she said that “Snape is not a good guy (OK kinda agree but the way she said it sounded more like “he is a bad or even really bad guy” which is obviously not true) and that he only tried to save Harry which was the least he could do” and this is the part where I was like?!?!?!
He might have started off only trying to save Harry (actually Lily at first) but then he actually tries to save the whole wizarding world. Like remember that time he told Dumbledore “Lately only those I couldn't save.” or when he tried to save Lupin at the beginning of DHp1 or told Phineas Niggelus Black to not call Hermione a mud blood. And let's not forget how he spied for Dumbledore during the first and second war, which is definitely more than the least he could do. I could go on but I think people with enough braincells get that he was not just trying to save that one boy but actively going against Voldemort's values and also kinda his own (or at least the once he was taught as a kid/teen). And like the example with Lupin shows also protecting those who, from his perspective might not deserve his help (considering Remus was a bystander at his bullying who actually had the power and the duty to stop it and also while mostly being civil towards Snape in later years still made his life extremely hard [I still love Remus but let's not ignore his flaws]).
Yes maybe he was a cruel teacher even bully to some of his students (we actually canonically only know of the trio and Neville) but at the same time also beloved and admired by some (mainly Slytherin but considering how badly they were treated by almost everyone else I actually think it's good of Snape to favour them especially considering what he went through during school simply because he was Slytherin. If you have a problem with that, perhaps you should complain first about everyone mistreating the Slytherins before complaining about someone treating them nicely, even if it is unfair).
But besides that his position in the second war (and also the end of the first one) on the good side is clear and not only to save Harry but also everyone he simply could save. And if you don't see it, maybe you should get your eyes checked, or I don't know...

how differently do you think the Marauders would have treated Snape is he was female? Would they have been less vicious or would their bullying just take on a different form (like say touching her inappropriately or flipping her skirt just like removing Snape's pants)
And would Remus stand up for Snape more if he was female because would he think "no she can't handle that, they're going too far, she's a girl" etc etc
*squeals* oh my goodness I love this questionnn 🤩
I think it depends on many things — what would the professors do if the Marauders’ relentless and extreme bullying began? What would Remus say? How would the other students react to the Marauders’ bullying when it’s done in public? And most importantly, would the Marauders stop after they face consequences?
I think:
Remus would definitely force himself to speak up because the “gentleman in him doesn’t want a woman to go through that.” I’m sure his justification of the incident was “boys will be boys.” If Snape was a girl instead, I’m sure he, along with many more students and professors, would be enraged.
I think the Professors definitely would’ve done something about it. The most we hear in canon is James and Sirius getting detentions, but I’m sure they would’ve gotten way more warnings from the professors if they continued with their behaviour. And I’m sure a lot more students would report the Marauders’ behaviour (both their behaviour towards Snape and their behaviour towards other students), and the teachers would be forced to do something about it.
Another thing we have to remember is that the Marauders era took place in the 70s and women weren’t exactly.. treated the best during that time. So you could argue that a lot of fem!Snape’s experiences with them were dismissed, not only because she was a Slytherin, but because she was a woman too (and she wasn’t a conventionally pretty one). Additionally, we should also remember that James and Sirius are both privileged white guys who come from well-known pureblood families, so I doubt they would’ve faced really serious consequences, unless they took more precautions to hide their bullying of fem!Snape.
But I still think that, while fem!Snape must’ve experienced a lot of misogyny during her Hogwarts years, the professors (especially the women) would be more sympathetic to her than if she were a man (because “he should just man up” or “Potter and Black are just being boys, it’s not a big deal”).
Conclusion: I think that fem!Snape’s struggles would be taken more seriously and sometimes a few students (either guys or girls) would stand up for her when she’s bullied in public, so as a response to that, the Marauders made sure to target and attack her in more private areas in order to avoid any disruptions. And I think she would also still experience other people dismissing what she went through, but for slightly different reasons than male!Snape, perhaps some people might tell her “boys do that because they like you” or “it’s okay they’re just being silly boys” or “be more mature, you’re a girl.” And I think James, Sirius, and Peter might possibly target her without Remus because he would’ve spoken up about it more than once and they decided “he’s no fun, let’s just ditch him.” And I think SWM definitely would not have happened in public, because if it did, I think that would definitely be the last straw for the professors and the Marauders would get either suspended or even expelled.
End of rant. Thank you for this interesting question Nonnie.

Even though I don’t ship Snily, it rubs me the wrong way how cruelly the HP fandom treats Snily shippers. Most “What Your Harry Potter Ship Says About You” stuff insults them, I saw one that said “you weren’t loved enough as a child” and another that said “you’re J.K. Rowling”.

harry's third year headcanons - snape's pov
snape wakes up most nights with recurring nightmares about the shack, about being chased, about being caught. when he's on the brink of sleep he hears howls, and startles awake. not certain whether he's dreamt them or whether they were real, and unable to sleep anyway, he paces the corridors with his wand drawn
deepest winter, where the days are short and the nights are long, he has recurring dreams where he wakes up and goes about his day - he attends meals, he teaches, spends time in the staffroom. each night it's a new nightmare - despite the hour the werewolf is loose in the halls between classes. loose in the dining hall at breakfast. it transforms and traps him in the staffroom. it bursts through the door into his lessons. it's killed the students. blood pools on the flagstones.
he should brew dreamless sleep, but he doesn't have time. there are classes to teach, and papers to mark, classes to cover, and he makes two batches of wolfsbane at a time. despite how complex and long-winded it is to make, he checks them obsessively. they have to be perfect. he has to have a spare. he wears himself down with how often he tends them, and sleep-deprived and sick and distracted with worry already, he can't stop thinking that he's missed a step. that he's added something twice. that it won't work, and it'll be all his fault.
a girl screams in the corridor between classes. he sprints to the sound - it turns out it was nothing. she and her friends had tried a hair-growing charm, and it hadn't worked as planned. it's nothing serious. he sends her to the hospital wing but not before he docks a intentionally unfair fifty points for practicing magic in the halls, because he's sick and dizzy and his hands are sweaty and his heart is racing, and he'll stay that way for the rest of the day. worse, the students laughed behind their hands at him, at his overreaction. the students are always laughing at him now, ever since lupin's boggart lesson. he's a laughing stock.
lupin is always slow to take his potion. there's a known murderer trying to enter the castle. the murderer enters the castle, twice. he makes it as far as gryffindor tower. lupin knows something. lupin is having private meetings with potter. something is wrong, but nobody is listening. everyone, from dumbledore to lupin to the students, refuses to take him seriously. why won't anyone take him seriously.

Fondly remembering the time a snater claimed that snape calling lily lily potter proves that he only saw her as another man’s object. For calling her by her legal name

Did the wizarding world patronus test again today and got a bat. Was a bit confused (still am) but then I was like “I did think about Sev when they told me to think about my happiest memory.” so I guess I just got my little dungeon bat protecting me from the evil in this world, which is really cute. (I also read a bit about what this Patronus could mean, and at least some things do kinda fit, especially with how my life is currently going).
