Immagini perfette, fedeli all'originale in merito a luce, contrasto e sfumature. Stampate stampate stampate! 😉 . #saaldigital #saaldigitalitaly #blackandwhite #monochrome #monocromo #biancoenero #blackandwhitephotography #photobook #fotolibro #immenso #professionale #grandeimpatto #stampadigitale #stampafotografica #digitalprint #printingphotos (presso Bergamo, Italy) https://www.instagram.com/p/CDJUCMsnJ3P/?igshid=zmvyayy5d2lc

Happy Christmas Eve #TravelTuesday to you all! I’’ m Dave Williams and’I ’ m here with another sparkly nugget of knowledge for you, as constantly, fresh from England however influenced by the North Pole!
Today, rather festively, I wish to talk about something we can do as professional photographers to spread out love and cheer. This Christmas I’’ ve provided the present of photography in 2 methods. To liked ones I’’ ve offered prints of mine, and to loved ones with kids I’’ ve provided a letter from Santa together with 2 images from him, among Rudolph and the lads, and among his home high up on the hillside in Lapland.
Tumblr media
As it’’ s Christmas Eve, let me share the story here with you, too. In inmost Lapland, high up on a fell among the snow and the reindeer, is a little, wood cabin. They state Santa lives at the North Pole, however that’’ s simply to cover the fact so he can have a tranquil year in Lapland preparing for the huge night. High up on that hillside in the inmost snow is the cabin Nicholas matured in, and Nicholas ended up being Father Christmas, spreading out cheer and providing toys to all the young boys and women worldwide as thanks for his training. To discover his cabin there are no signposts, all you need to do is think. Well, kind of … there’’ s likewise a ski lift at the Levi ski resort in Finland which will take you there, and then when you ski down slope 13 you’’ ll see the cabin simply off-piste to the. The cabin was really constructed as part of a film set for the Finnish Christmas motion picture Joulutarina (which equates into English as Christmas Story.)
Tumblr media
Anyway, back to the point. United States professional photographers can share our imaginative skills by gifting our photography, not just in the manner in which I have here and in presents to our loved ones, however likewise to assist us advance in our market by showcasing our work to potential customers. There’’ s something really various about a printed picture in contrast to one on a screen, which additional component of tangibility alone is among the remarkable powers that print needs to assist us. Having actually a picture printed on a wall or in our hands to hold and to feel, and to take a look at with wonder, is that additional action which we’’ re losing in our digital age.
Gift your photography. Believe me, it works.
Much love
Dave

What Size of File do I send? All About Pixels, TIFFS, JPEGS, DPI and PPI.
As a photographer you want to ensure that your work looks terrific. You want the world to see your image as perfectly as you created it, with no pixelation or color shifts. Sending the right file size and format is an important step in the process. If you know the final use of the photo your choice is easy: simply deliver the image sized in pixels.
By comparison, a jpeg image can range from a small 500k black and white highly-compressed jpeg to a 5mb minimally compressed color jpeg. A bit of background here: jpeg compression is lossy, which means it “throws away” pixels to reduce the file size. Check this out by using the quality slider in the “JPEG OPTIONS” dialogue box when you “save as” in Photoshop. If you choose to save a large file (quality 12), the jpeg compression throws away less pixels and creates a saved photo that is larger in file size. A small file (quality 0) throws away a lot of pixels and greatly reduces the finished file size.
Here’s an example: I started with a 56mb TIFF file, RGB color. Saving it as a JPG with minimal compression, quality 12 on the slider, gives me a 9.9mb jpg file. On the other hand, saving it with LOTS of compression, quality 0, gives me a 482kb file. But, the quality totally changes, from a beautiful image with lovely color gradients, to a pixelated cartoon-like photo. Try it: go to my website at www.leannarathkelly.com and download a photo. I have set it so you can only get a low-res jpg file, 600px on the long side. As this small size is meant for preview it looks pretty good on screen. Print it, though, and the image is TINY!
And should it be a TIFF or JPEG? Again, that depends on the intended use.  A TIFF is a loss-less file format, which means no pixels are “thrown away” to reduce the file size. As such, it is editable. When a JPG has been compressed, image deterioration may occur if the photo is changed. Some art directors prefer TIFFs only, because of the ability to make changes to the image, while others have no plans to alter the image and so are fine with either file choice.
Say, for instance, your client LOVES your photo, and wants to print it exactly the way you’ve created it. She plans to use it on the cover of a brochure that is 5”x7” and is using a high-quality commercial printer that will print at 300dpi. The pixel dimensions of an 5x7 document are 1500pixels by 2100pixels. Easy peasy, send an image (JPEG or TIFF)) sized to 1500x2100 pixels. I like to use the crop tool in Photoshop to do this, and fill in the pixel dimensions on the top left part of the bar. Alternately, select Image → Image Size, and then choose pixels as the measurement parameter.
But, if the Art Director wants to print the same image to 5x7 at 600dpi, the right file size to send would be 3000x4200 pixels.
This brings up another question: What’s the difference between DPI and PPI? DPI stands for Dots Per Inch and refers to the number of printed dots contained within one inch of an image done by a printer. PPI means Pixels Per Inch and refers to the number of pixels contained within one inch of an image displayed on a computer monitor. Dots are on paper: pixels are on the screen. Most printers are set at 300dpi; monitors used to be 72ppi (but the Mac Retina display 27” screen is 5120x2880, which works out to be 218 ppi).
So, a photo sized at 1500x2100 pixels could equal a:
5x7 printed at 300dpi,
OR 10x14 printed at 150dpi
OR 20x28 @72 ppi ! And that’s why photos that look big on your screen print small on your printer!
Hope this helps.
Cheers!
