saw a video about 2 player ttrpgs and one of them was like "this one's about a pretend marriage" and i was like oh? and i looked it up on itch (eyes on the prize, fyi) and it's 50% as of right now and i was like OH? and i bought it immediately & ive read most of it and i am a big fan. and i KNOW that i have friends who would have fun playing it (it's a 2 player or 4 player game; the 4 player variant has 2 fake couples) but asking them is going to be so cringe. yeah we're gonna make up people and pretend to be them and then pretend to pretend to get married and the characters when they start their pretending they're gonna be like "oh we don't have any romantic feelings towards each other this is strictly plot" but then (get this) they will start to develop real feelings for each other. and we're gonna act it out together and pretend to be them but don't worry! we have no romantic feelings towards one another. this is strictly plot. when WE (irl) pretend to be in love it's actually platonic, unlike the people who we are pretending to be to each other. so do you have like 2-5 hours you wanna dedicate to that next week

and the worst part is that's 100% what i want. like i have roleplayed romance before with friends it is literally not a big deal because the whole point of roleplay is that the character ISN'T you. but with a fake relationship the crushing weight of dramatic irony hovers behind me

one of the things that really pisses me off about fandom (in general but it seems 10x worse in the ofmd fandom in specific) is some peoples determination to jump to the worst possible interpretation of any scene with a character they dont like in it. its suddenly not reasonable to read the silly jokey scene as it was indended, we have to assume X character is acting in bad faith because why would he not. if you substituted it with any other person you would not see these readings, but because its someone they dont like we can't possibly read it any other way. im all for reading into the text of the show and analysing and extrapolating from it, but some of the takes i have seen seem so out of left field from the actual show that it feels hard to assume the people writing them are doing it for any reason other than blind hatred of a character.

person of interest: my ultimate Fave Show. i never rewatched any other show as many times in my life, i could talk about it for hours at any given moment and root is my fave character of all time (hence the icon). i doubt any show and character will ever be as important to me ngl this sounds very lame but it's a part of me now

the haunting of hill house: it's my annual therapy session i think nothing else helped me with grief as much as this show so it's very dear to me. i specifically mean thohh to be clear. i'm not into bly manor and generally flanagan is a hit or miss for me but thohh i do adore. two storms is my fave episode of tv after person of interest's if-then-else

the good place: EMOTIONAL SUPPORT SITCOM BEST TV FINALE OF ALL TIME. means so much to me

killing eve: s4 doesn't exist to me whatsoever and s3 is on thin ice but god there will never be anything like this again. villanelle and eve are some of the most characters of all time

russian doll: MEANS SO MUCH TO ME. you may not know this because i haven't actually blogged about it all that much but i feel deeply understood by this show and it's tone and emotional punches and humor are out of this world. it's perfectly crafted - both seasons - and brilliant

orphan black: finally watched all of it last year and it's actually quite a satisfying ending. it lost me for a good while cause the plot got too convoluted and it became tiring to watch but i'm still attached to the characters and s1 continues to be one of the best seasons of television of all time

lost: listen i'm one of the rare people who actually liked the ending and i love those characters sooooo much i think in terms of Good Characters it's such a great show. made me cry so many times

Bones-inspired Hannibal-esque Mutual (moral) Destruction.

joey is chris's intern, studying to get his doctorate. joey is beautiful and funny and charming, whip-smart and deft with a scalpel. he takes chris's attention from philipp, and he takes philipp's attention from chris. unknowingly, at first, but again - once you notice, isn't it just fun to pull at the strings ? to play to your audience ? no one could say joey isn't vain.

the scene: philipp is an unassuming professor of anthropology at a state university. chris is a harried forensic pathologist who works for the state crime lab. chris consults with philipp when he gets a case that seems to involve ritualistic (or attempts at ritualistic) elements. they see each other in the staff cafeteria sometimes, and they both want. they havent done anything though, not in the three years they've worked together. it's a bit of fun, a bit of a break from their work, to play with the tension.

philipp, of course, is a killer. it used to be more... shall we say recreational ? just when he really needed the release, the pleasure. he stopped, actually, when he met chris. finally here was someone interesting, who understood the grotesque beauty of the dead body and the sway it holds over the Observer, who had questions about the preparation of the dead throughout time and culture. philipp's students dont care, not really, and it enrages him behind his cheerful facade. and if chris is paying more attention to joey (and joey does seduce chris first. it's easier - he has alllll that time together to work his wiles) then philipp simply needs to come up with a reason for chris to come to him insteaad.

when the first body appears, it is a parody of a "satanic ritual" cooked up in the 80s. start simple, and stupid. it's a sweeter form of satisfaction, for philipp to know that the the state investigators think that they'll be able to solve this quickly when he also knows they wont. a clumsy crime that isn't clumsy at all.

he gets a month or two of delicious attention from chris and joey, keeping them thinking about how western concepts of human sacrifice have changed and how they mingle with xenophobia and xenophilia. how the satanic panic factors into how north americans treat the dead. but it starts to fade, and he knew it would. so he ups the stakes.

i'm not quite sure how i would want to get there. but joey definitely joins philipp before chris does. first in philipp's bed, then in philipp's crimes, until finally he goes... not missing, no. he just needs a leave of absence from the lab (from chris). they've just seen so much horrible death, haven't they. he's taking a break from his studies. philipp is just being kind enough to let joey stay in his home while he figures things out. this, of course, fuels the rancid fearangerjealousy that has made it's home in chris's stomach. he needs to find the killer. he needs philipp. he needs joey. he needs to understand what's happening, why he feels so free when he talks to philipp about the terrible awe that death brings us. why seeing joey with a heart in his hands is burned into his brain like something erotic.

i would have it end with the three of them together, of course. finding pleasure in knowing that they understand death, they understand what is meaningful to do with a body. they get to arbitrate what is correct to do with a body. their own, each other's, the bodies of outsiders.
