Have you ever thought to yourself: Yee howdy, I wish I could know what everyone thinks of my favorite character, and I also wish we could all definitively rank them in popularity based on the whims of the public? Then do I have the thing for you!
Right out the gate, it's time to vote for favorite characters. The votes for favorite NPC (human) and favorite NPC (other) will be running alongside each other, with the vote for NPC (other) starting a little later to make them both finish at the same time and end in an epic dual victory.
I have chosen to split them up because there's a lot of NPC's and we can expedite the process somewhat by having separate tournaments running alongside each other.
Humanoid creatures such as Pandorians residing in the circus will be counted as humans because that's how they choose to present and I will respect that.
Certain conditions apply regarding characters added to SSO just to host races, NPC's that are named but do not take part in quests, and characters from earlier games. these characters will not partake because the list is so. long. already.
Every poll will be accompanied by a picture and a brief description to refresh your memory, so don't worry if you can't remember them just by name! If you have any concerns or can't see your favorite NPC anywhere, send a message or an ask.
The first NPC (human) tournamnet will take place over 3 sessions of 40 posts per week, because it's 120 posts and I don't want to overwhelm you with that many posts. Once we've narrowed it down to 60 favorites it will be split into 2 sessions, and once we've only got 30 contestants left, I'll post them all in one go until a winner is declared. That's also when the NPC (other) polls will be posted.
Who will go up against who is randomized and can be found under the cut.

AMY'S DAILY FIC REC
Nice BBC Sherlock fics I've read recently
**Grownups - EmmyAngua
18k, 6/6, Sherlock Holmes, Archie, John Watson, Mary Morstan, Mycroft Holmes, Growing Up
Somehow - without anyone ever being sure how it happens - Sherlock becomes Archie's mentor. At least he *thinks* he's the mentor.
*Bloody Stupid - Wind_Ryder
5k, 1/1, Archie, Sherlock Holmes, Mary Morstan, Adorable Watson Baby, Child Care
Prompt: Archie's mom has been kidnapped and Sherlock agrees to take care of him until he can find her. Mary and baby Watson help.
**space oddity - redherring
1k, 1/1, Viclock, Space, Mrs. Hudson, Angsty
What have you been doing?
Same old, same old. Orbiting and spying on you.
You don’t spy on me.
Au contraire, mon frère.
*With A Heavy Heart - GingerBruja
3k, 4/4, Viclokc, Greg Lestrade, John Watson, Mary Morstan, Mycroft Holmes, Molly Hooper, Mrs. Hudson, MI6 Victor
Every year, four days after Sherlock’s Birthday, Victor and Sherlock made time for each other. Well, almost every year. The two men led very busy lives, what with one being the world’s only consulting detective and the other being an MI6 agent who belonged to a very elite group, known for their suave, efficient brutality.
One year it all stopped. Sherlock struggles with a long bout of depression and the others try to find away to keep him from falling too far. Little do they know, it was Victor's death that triggered it all.
*The Seventh of March - HumsHappily
2k, 1/1, Viclock, MJC, Angst, Sad Ending, Language of Flowers
The funeral was in July. Victor’s parents watch him with sad eyes as he stands in front of the mourners. It was fitting perhaps, that they are in a greenhouse, he thinks, because this is the place Victor was the happiest. Where his eyes would light up as he tells Sherlock exactly which flower is blooming, which he smells, which he sees. A cough from his audience brings Sherlock back, and he glances behind to the casket. It is draped in lilies, larkspur and magnolias, poppies scattered throughout, pops of color like starbursts. Baby’s breath cascades over the sides, a rich white blanket falling to the ground, covering the table Victor rests on.

Tagged by: @astroboots whose reviews on both my stuff and anyone else's make me laugh like a lunatic and run to read whatever she's recommending! (plus Red Flags is still bouncing around my noggin mmmmm)
Rules: tag a few people you want to know better; make a new post, don’t reblog!
Favorite color: Yellow Currently reading: I mean, fanfic mostly? Bust before that I was reading The Postmortal by Drew Magary Last song: MXMS Gravedigger Last series: Severance on AppleTV (watching the new Moon Knight today!) Last movie: The Bubble (it was okay, I was only there for Dieter brainrot anyways) Sweet, spicy, or savory: sweet, I have a wicked sweet tooth and actively had to stop baking during the pandemic Coffee or tea: Coffee every day, but afternoon tea is a treat Three ships: 9th/10th Doctor x Rose Tyler, Molly Hooper x Sherlock Holmes (BBC), Furiosa x Max (Mad Max Fury Road, but specifically a/b/o Furiosa Alpha, Max Omega - trust me, it's face-meltingly hot) First ever ship: Quinn Mallory x Wade Welles, Sliders. This is an old-ass series but one of the first sci-fi shows I ever watched. Currently working on: Editing Below the Line, finishing Something More, sequel to Something New (only the ending left to go!). Favorite piece of clothing: My bathrobe probably, it's one of those cotton ones instead of terry cloth with a pink poppy pattern. Comfort food: Fried eggs on toast Favorite time of year: September/October in New England, especially when it's not cold enough to need a heavy jacket yet but the leaves have started changing. Favorite fanfiction: You're really going to make me do this? Go through my favorites? I have MILLIONS, I could never choose favorites and all the reasons why, so here are some of my tops:
@astroboots Homecoming series
@iamskyereads Lie to Me series
@quicksilvermad Cyar'tomade series
@amywritesthings Point A to Point B series
And pretty much anything @lowlights, @mandosmistress, @littlemisspascal, and @oonajaeadira write.
Tagging: @amywritesthings, @lowlights, @songsformonkeys, and @iamskyereads
#I went to a wedding this weekend#and now I have a sore throat#I haven't been sick in two years#so let's do a fun ask game while I suck down cough drops

Are Ghosts real? — Scientific evidence for Ghosts
Ghosts are everywhere. We’ve seen them in films, in books, or if you’re too terrified to watch a scary movie (like me) you might at least have heard a few ghost stories.
As far back as we can trace human life, there’s evidence that every culture around the world believed that there’s some non-physical essence to life. It’s because humans are curious and we want to know what’s happening around us. It’s a good thing but what’s not good is rendering something as supernatural when we have no explanation for its mysteriousness.
It can be presented better in the words of Carrie Poppy:
“Of course there are mysteries, but a mystery is a mystery. It’s not a Ghost.”
Psychological reasons for why we believe in ghosts
According to Barry Markovsky, a sociologist at the University of South Carolina, the human mind seeks patterns and tries to make sense of ambiguous things. Ghosts are always seen in ambiguous circumstances like when it is dark or when we’re half-conscious such as when we’re sleeping or waking up.
Missing loved ones
Ghosts, If you’re looking for one you'd likely to find one. Researchers say that Six in 10 grieving people 'see or hear dead loved ones'. Honestly, it’s more agonising to realise that our loved ones are gone forever than accepting a sweet lie.
Pareidolia
One of the reasons why we see faces or figures is Pareidolia. Pareidolia is a situation when we see an image or a pattern in something even where it doesn't exist.
Our brain processes information and it’s always correct. But when we are hallucinating, which of course is an illusion, we still believe it because we’re so used to the accuracy of our senses.
The brain works to make the sense of the world around itself and it’s so good at it that sometimes it finds meaning in meaningless things. That’s why we see faces in scuff marks on a wall or in clouds and of course the spooky figures in the dark.
The Science of Ghosts
Infrasound
Several ghost stories are easily explained through Infrasound. Infrared is a low-frequency sound below our auditory limit (20Hz). It can be produced by certain machines like engines or fans.
It’s a fact that we can’t hear it but it certainly messes with our nerves and can cause visual hallucinations, chills, and the eerie feeling of someone’s presence near you.
Peripheral Vision
It’s common to hear stories of people catching a glimpse of a ghost from the corner of their eye. Peripheral vision is our ability to see objects and movements outside of the direct line of vision. And Here’s how it works:
Our ability to detect motion increases at the edge of our peripheral vision whereas our ability to detect colour drops off considerably. This is because the periphery of our retina has fewer cones (cones are cells that detect colour and shape) and more rods which are better at detecting motion.
Our senses are heightened when we are alert which makes us likely to be frightened by otherwise mundane occurrences.
Sleep Paralysis
Sleep paralysis occurs when the usual rhythm of sleep is disrupted such as when we’re about to fall asleep or wake up from sleep. It’s when our eyes are active under our shut eyelids called REM sleep or Rapid Eye Movement. We are active and alert but the rest of the body is paralysed. It is to prevent us from acting out in our sleep and injuring ourselves.
Sleep paralysis occurs when the body wakes up from REM sleep. That means that we are still dreaming but have opened our eyes.
This is usually a terrifying phenomenon because that’s when the hallucinations occur. People have described seeing demons, intruders, or footsteps walking closer which is one of the primary causes people to report paranormal experiences.
Joe Nickell, a paranormal investigator, after 50 years of his research said:
“Not ever have I found a single case that I thought was proof of a ghost neither has science. Not a single ghost or haunting has been authenticated by science.”
Physics vs Ghosts
Ghosts are considered supernatural because their presence can’t be validated or proved by science. Isn’t it ambiguous that the only proof of them is of oral stories or ambiguous photographs?
The characteristics of ghosts we know defy all scientific laws of nature. They are invisible but some are caught in videos, they can pass through solid objects but can also open/close doors when no one is around.
Theoretical Astrophysicist, Dan Hooper explained that if ghosts are visible and can take any kind of physical form then they must be made up of atoms (like every other thing in the universe).
The electrons around atoms have a very strong repulsive force and that’s why solid objects can’t move through each other and here’s exactly why you can’t pass through a wall. If that’s the case, then ghosts can’t pass through solid objects either.
Therefore, we have to assume that they are made of something more exotic like Neutrinos also called Ghost Particles. Neutrinos have no electric charge—they’re neutral.
Since they have no electric charge, therefore they exert a repulsive force against other matter and can easily pass through solids.
BUT if ghosts were made of neutrinos then they would not emit any electromagnetic radiation or light. Mind you many ghost hunters use EMF meters to detect ghosts and they basically measure the electromagnetic fields that ghosts are assumed to simulate.
Some people believe that the reason why we still don’t have valid proof is that we don’t have the right technology to detect the spirit world but we can also detect them with our senses. That’s certainly not a very clever assumption.
Well, sorry to burst your bubble but so far there aren’t any scientific proofs for the existence of Ghosts.
Story of Carrie Poppy
Carrie Poppy is a journalist and a paranormal investigator. In a TED Talk, Carrie Poppy shared her story of when she thought her house was haunted by a ghost.
Here’s how it goes…
While living in her house in LA (which I’m assuming she had recently moved into), she started to feel as if it was rather haunted. Poppy would constantly feel pressure on her chest, which only got worse. She even started to hear whispers. That’s not all, Poppy said she would sit on her bed and cry all night for no apparent reason.
Poppy was then sure that evil spirits were living in her house. She talked to her friend and as anyone would, her friend suggested a cleansing ritual.
This should’ve been the end of the story. Well not so quick.
The cleansing ritual had no effect and the eerie feeling didn’t go away. After a little search, she stumbled upon a team of ghost hunters, whom she referred to as “Skeptics”. They believed that every ghost case could be explained through science.
That’s exactly what they did. Thanks to those “Skeptics”, Poppy came to realise that there was a gas leak in her house and the ghost that kept haunting her was, in fact, Carbon Monoxide Poisoning. Mind you the common symptoms of CO poisoning are auditory hallucinations, unexplained dread, and chest pain.
Poppy had to call the gas company to fix the leak and one of the members told her that she was lucky because she would’ve died if she hadn’t called them earlier.
Imagine if Poppy hadn’t called the Company, she probably would’ve died. Her house would’ve been added to the unending list of haunted houses.
Poppy is now a paranormal investigator, she claims to have solved 70 cases in her life, and according to her:
“9 times out of 10 science wins, Saves the day, it’s all explained
That’s not true, The truth is
10 times out of 10, science wins, it saves the day”
Swiss Scientists were able to produce a “ghost” in a lab. They created a robot with a mechanical arm. The robot’s arm touches the subject’s back and mimics the movements of the subject’s arm. A slight delay in the movement of its arm creates a ghostly feeling.
This shows how manipulating certain parts of your brain can easily misconstruct reality.
Think about it, If our souls could turn into ghosts after death then there would be more ghosts in this world than the number of people alive. Also, most murder cases could solve easily. Overall, it would be a terrifying world.
Next time if you feel a presence, just think of how many annual deaths are caused by ghosts. EXACTLY!!

Keep Your Friends Close and Your Enemies Ten Feet from the Pack: Chapter 3
Hi, Everyone! I hope you’re all still out there and are staying healthy. Hopefully, this will give a little distraction if only for a few minutes. I love you all!!
***
So while you sit back and wonder why, I got this fuckin’ thorn in my side. Oh my god, it’s a mirage. I’m tellin’ y’all, it’s sabotage. --The Beastie Boys, Sabotage
John Watson stands in front of a quaint house wondering what the fuck he’s doing there. It’s been two weeks since his first day in the stadium. Fourteen days since he spoke with Molly Hooper about her suspicions. It has been in the back of his mind ever since as he has read medical records in his office, spoken to the skaters in the exam and training rooms, and even while making dinner or reading a book in his flat. It is especially on his mind while he watches the ladies practice and god, he cannot believe how hard they hit on the track. He has seen hockey players crumple under hits like these and they are covered with pads. Frankly, John is surprised there are not more injuries throughout the year, especially since these are only the practices.
He blows out a breath and takes his hands out of his pockets. John had plenty of chances to change his mind when he looked up the retired doctor’s address and while driving the hour and a half to the cheerful little neighborhood. He is here now. He might as well get on with it.
Striding up to the house, he takes in its white siding and dark green shutters. Many of the windows have boxes containing bright red poppies and small daisies. It’s like it was pulled right from Wizard of Oz and deposited in a Detroit suburb. John steps onto the porch where there is a single wicker chair sitting just to the left of the door and suddenly visions of the stereotypical old man perched on his porch with a shotgun, yelling at children to get the fuck off his lawn pop into his mind. A small smile teases at the corners of his mouth as he directs his attention to the door again and hesitates before knocking. He has no idea what to expect from this man. John glances at the chair again and then knocks firmly. The door opens almost immediately to reveal a man with greying hair and a smile that lights up his whole face. He looks almost joyful. And the epitome of Mr. Rogers, tan cardigan and all.
“I wondered if you’d get up the nerve to knock,” he remarks in a friendly tone. “I saw you drive up from the kitchen window.”
“Um...sorry,” he huffs an embarrassed laugh. “My name is John Watson. I’m looking for Dr. William Wiggins.”
“You found him, and it’s Billy,” the man answers warmly. “What can I do for you, John Watson?”
“Uh...well, I’m not exactly sure,” he cringes, lifting a hand and cupping the back of his neck. “You see, I’m the new doctor for the Detroit Rock City Rollers.”
“Ah, and you want to pick my brain, eh? Some of the ladies are probably different now, you know.”
“Yes, probably, but that’s not what I had in mind, actually,” John bites his lip and wonders how the hell he is going to explain this without sounding insane. He clears his throat and knows exactly how Molly felt. God, what is he even doing here? “I’ve only been here a couple of weeks and I… Molly Hooper...”
“Ahh,” Billy breathes, stepping back from the doorway. “Molly sent you. Come in, John Watson. Come in.”
Moments later, the two men are seated in the living room. John is on the couch and Billy sits in the recliner just opposite. John purses his lips with no idea how to start. To his surprise, the older man beats him to it and cuts right to the chase while he’s at it.
“She shared her suspicions with you.”
“Yes,” John breathes. He swallows and leans forward, sitting on the edge of the couch. “She told me about the accidents.”
“They weren’t accidents, Dr. Watson,” Billy’s voice is stern and his eyes are so intense a pang of discomfort jets down John’s spine. “Every one of those incidents was sabotage.”
“Can you prove that?”
“No,” Billy sighs. John feels himself deflating and he cannot hide his disappointment. Billy shakes his head. “I could easily see there were more injuries than usual. It was as plain as the nose on your face. Didn’t really occur to me that it could be anything other than a series of unfortunate accidents until Molly brought it up.”
John’s eyes are glued to the elderly man and he waits quietly for him to go on. Billy picks up a glass of lemonade from the side table and takes a drink. He had offered John a glass before they sat, but John had respectfully declined. Billy holds the glass in both hands and shakes his head once.
“I was taking a look at her knee. It was a follow-up visit weeks after to make sure it had healed well. She went very quiet when I asked her how it felt. I knew there was something on her mind, but I didn’t say anything,” he shrugs. ”I knew she would tell me when she was ready.”
“She told you it wasn’t an accident.”
“She checked all of her equipment a few hours before the bout. It was all fine, but a bearing came loose and the wheel flew right off,” Billy’s voice is very grave. “Even that could have been coincidence, but her knee pad blew out as soon as she hit the ground. There’s no way. No way in hell.”
“Who were you playing?” John asks.
“The Detroit Demons.”
“There are two teams in Detroit?”
“It’s a big city,” Billy replies. “They are Rock City’s biggest rival. Bouts with them are always the worst and hardest hitting.”
“Were they always playing them when it happened?” John is intrigued.
“No,” Billy places the glass on the coffee table between them. “It didn’t seem to matter who the ladies were playing and that made it harder to find a pattern.”
“Did you consider the possibility that it might be someone skating with Rock City?” John all but whispers. It is a huge gamble. The man might clam up and throw him out at just the suggestion. He had worked with Rock City a long time. He is sure to have plenty of pull with Mrs. Hudson and the staff. One angry phone call about paranoid and insulting accusations could get John fired before he has even started. John waits and watches the doctor for signs of anger that do not come.
“No,” Billy shakes his head. “I can’t believe it of them. Any of them.”
“Did you notice it happening more or less during a certain part of the season? Or in certain places?”
“Not really. It happened every few bouts. Sometimes five in between, sometimes ten. Derby is like hockey, Dr. Watson. There are a lot of bouts.”
“Tell me about it. I saw the schedule for the first time this morning,” John furrows his brow. Attacks on the team with no discernible rhyme or reason leave little room to find the answer to the mystery. How could John find clues where there aren’t any and without Velma Dinkley declaring ‘jinkies’ when one does present itself?
Staring at the lemonade glass on the table, deep in thought, John does not notice Billy studying him closely. The older man wears a thoughtful expression. He is learning as much from and about John as the doctor is from him.
“I’m sorry. I wish I could be of more help,” he says finally.
“I think you can,” John replies, meeting the man’s eyes again. Billy tilts his head curiously. When John speaks, his voice is low and deadly serious. “Molly mentioned poison. She said you were poisoned.”
Billy’s expression darkens and he nods slowly.
“She really has put her trust in you,” he says quietly. “Yes, I was poisoned. I made sure everyone was told it was a bad case of food poisoning to avoid panic, but a couple of them knew what really happened. They could tell.”
“Molly was one of them.”
“Yes.”
“And you didn’t tell anyone else?”
“No,” he answers plainly, averting his eyes to the table for a moment. “I retired and moved on. That’s what whoever did it wanted and I’m too old to deal with that shit.”
“So they still don’t know?” John asks, incredulous. “Didn’t you think one of them might be next?”
Billy leans close and stares into John’s eyes. John follows suit, anxious to hear Billy’s next words. Knowing the risks, how could this man keep such a secret?
“Someone wanted me out, Dr. Watson. I was the clear target and there was no sense worrying the team. Yes, there were accidents, but only with minor injuries. I had no reason to believe anyone was in mortal danger.”
“Does Greg know at least?”
“Molly knows.”
“Jesus,” John runs a hand through his hair and lets out a long breath, “someone else should know. Greg or Mrs. Hudson. Someone should be watching out for more accidents. Molly can’t do it while she’s on the track.”
“You know now,” his words silencing John. “Now you can help Molly find out who’s doing it and then prove it. I have the tox report, but it isn’t much good without a suspect and proof.”
“What was it?” John asks after puffing out an almost flustered breath. “What did they use?”
“Cyanide.”
John’s brows raise as he blinks in disbelief. He leans back on the couch for the first time since he sat. He turns everything around and around in his mind, trying to put it all together in a way that makes sense. Who would target the Rock City players and their doctor, especially their doctor? Another team? Why? The answer is obvious. To be on top. To win the championship. But why Billy? Why not Sherlock? He rebuilt the team from the ground up.
The answer hits John like a slap in the face.
“They wanted to get rid of you and bring Anderson in,” he says as a piece clicks into place.
“Maybe,” Billy replies thoughtfully. He gives John a look and narrows his eyes. “You have met Sherlock?”
“Yes,” John answers with a short laugh. Billy raises his brows. John presses his lips together and looks at the old man. He has an almost mischievous glint in his eye. Should John tell him what he really thinks?
“And?”
“Honestly?” John sighs when the man nods. “I don’t know what to think. He’s so easy to talk to and it makes me feel like I’ve known him my whole life. Then he’s cold and distant and would rather do anything but talk to me. He avoids me at practices and basically ignores me at meetings. He’s a fantastic coach though and boy, can he skate. He’s amazing.”
John looks back at Billy to see a smile growing on his face. He looks down at the floor and corrects himself.
“It’s amazing. And the team is phenomenal. I’ve only seen scrimmages so far, and I’m just learning the rules, but they are really good. They communicate so well with all these signals that look like they’re just shaking out a kink or something.”
“That’s pure Sherlock,” Billy grins openly now. “He’s very clever.”
“Yeah, well, he’s certainly good at avoiding what he doesn’t want to deal with,” John grumbles.
“He is very opinionated,” Billy laughs, “and has one hell of a stubborn streak. He can be a handful.”
He pauses and looks at John with a wisdom John has not seen since his mother closed her eyes for the final time. He sighs deeply and his expression softens.
“He gets his signals crossed when it comes to sentiment. He’s been burned before.”
“Sentiment?” John furrows his brow.
“He’s a good ally to have, Watson,” Billy says instead of answering. He leans forward again and looks at John intently. “After what you’ve told me, I can see now that whatever was going on is more serious than I thought. I was a fool for not seeing it then.”
He shakes his head, his face now full of regret and urgency.
“I may not have been the only target after all. You and Molly have to stop it before something terrible happens. Get Sherlock to help. He will face the devil himself for the ladies. He’ll listen to the two of you. Don’t dismiss him as a lost cause.”
“No offense, Billy, you know him better than I, but why would he believe me? He doesn’t believe Molly.”
“Strength in numbers, Watson. He trusts Molly and she trusts you.”
“She says he trusts me,” John gives a half laugh and turns his head away from the older man. He can feel an unexpected low burning anger in his gut, though it is not directed toward Billy. He continues, suspicious and spiteful. “I suppose I should believe her since they’re thick as thieves. There’s something going on between them.”
“Careful, Watson,” Billy says in a quiet, warning tone. “There are some things one should stay away from. Leave it be.”
John looks back at him and then shakes his head.
“He’ll listen to you and Molly, John,” Billy says in a voice of absolute certainty.
John looks up in surprise at the sound of his first name. Billy is wearing a decisive expression and nodding his head slowly.
“Trust me.”
***
There you go! The plot thickens. Anyone surprised and pleased to see Billy in an extremely different role? Haha! Tickles me pink! I can’t wait for y’all to see what’s coming up next. I’ll just say one thing...dinner?

Poppy looked down at the witches and their battle, so small and feeble beneath her. The world is so much bigger than this, she thought to herself.
Inktober Day 1!
I dearly loved this moment.

Another day, another subpar YA novel. After the disaster that was Three Dark Crowns, I told myself, "Luce, don't get sucked in by another excellent premise, it will only disappoint you," and I should have listened to myself. I picked up a new book called The Hawkweed Prophecy based on its premise: two girls, one magical and one not, were switched at birth and have to find their way in the world. The author, Irena Brignull, seemed particularly accomplished as well: as a screenwriter, she worked on The Boxtrolls and the movie adaptation of The Little Prince, and she's worked on many other projects as a script editor for the BBC. Yet somehow, there turned out to be very little to recommend about her first novel.
Minor spoilers and trigger warning for some discussion of abortion after the jump.

Downton Read A Likes
Over four years ago I started a post of Downton Read A Likes. Problem is, while there several efforts, very few of these efforts are, well... up to my standards. And I have to admit, the ones I actually liked are a fraction of what I have read (and I tend to read everything toted as ‘for Downton fans!’).
As with anything, saying something is Downton-esque can mean it’s just historical fiction, ensemble, features an up/down element, and/or set in a similar time period (which could mean Edwardian, WWI, and/or the ‘20s). These are all at least in one of the time periods. Some get simple facts about staff jobs etc. wrong (although I also do have to point that not every house used the same terms, but sometimes things are glaringly wrong).
Anyway here are a few titles that I do recommend:
The Manor of Secrets by Katherine Longshore (young adult)
Summerset Abbey by T.J. Brown (trilogy - the covers are very inaccurate but story is fairly historically accurate)
The Other Daughter by Lauren Willig
Lost Among the Living by Simone St. James (mystery)
Somewhere in France and sequels by Jennifer Robson (personally, I preferred her WWII set one, Goodnight from London, over her WWI era ones, but one of those in particular lifted a lot from DA lol)
Poppy and the sequel Poppy in the Field by Mary Hooper (young adult)
