The Aussie Chrissie Experience
Pairing:Â Nico Hischier x Aussie!Reader
Summary:Â Since Nico is injured just before Christmas, you head back to Australia for Nico to experience an Aussie Chrissie
Word Count:Â 2142
Warnings:Â Alcohol and kids
THE MASTERLIST JOIN THE TAGLIST HOCKEY DISCORD
For you and Nico, Christmas was usually spent housing the stray teammates who couldnât go home for the holidays. Mainly the other Swiss players who would love it when you cook some of Mama Hischierâs recipes. Nicoâs favourites. But this year, Christmas was going to look a little different. Well for you and Nico that is.
This year, Nico was injured and wasnât predicted to be back in the lineup until mid-January. Despite Nico being captain and wanting to be around the team, even when injured, he had asked his coach if he could take time off to travel for Christmas. Meaning you both could finally spend a Christmas with your family in Australia.
Much like Easter, Christmas was a big family event. Your family were the hosts of the family Christmas thanks to the inground pool in your backyard. The heat was predicted to reach 50 degrees celsius this year. One the highest you had experienced in your life.
On the 22nd of December, Nico and yourself landed in your town. Greeted by a small welcoming party in the airport terminal. After grabbing the three suitcases, your family made their way back to your parents. The first thing you did was put out the labelled presents under the tree the family had set up earlier in the month. Keeping the ones from Santa in the suitcase for Christmas Eve night.
Both you and Nico changed into some bathers before joining your parents under the gazebo near the pool. Your mum had made a cheese board with some crackers and dip for you all to snack on.Â
âWelcome to Australian summer Nico,â You dad chuckled, passing him a stubbie.
Dropping your coverup, you slid into the pool. Soaking in the cold water. After being in New Jersey for a couple years, youâd acclimatised. Now the heat felt crazy extreme. Luckily your parents had the pool. Ice cold water. Soothing on the skin. Best remedy and where youâd find yourself for the week while youâre both visiting.
âNeeks, come in,â You suggest as your mum passes you a Cruiser. âIt feels so good.â
You watched carefully as Nico lifted up his t-shirt. Abs on full display. A pair of red shorts are the only clothes heâs wearing. He had a snapback on with sunnies. Everything made him look ten times better than he usually did. Just so handsome. The things that you could do to him. Your mind is wondering.Â
âYouâre drooling,â Your mum calls. She pretends to wipe off some drool from her lip mockingly.
âLeave me alone.â
âNever,â She laughs.Â
You and Nico make yourselves comfortable. Since it was a Friday, your siblings were coming over for dinner. Homemade pizza was the plan since they had a woodfire pizza oven.Â
âAuntyyyy,â Your niece screamed as she came running out the back door.Â
Within an hour, your family had all come over. Excited to see you and Nico. To catch up and see whatâs been happening since you last saw everyone at the start of the offseason. Everyone was lounging around the pool. Drinking. Having fun. The kids were playing with the water guns and other pool toys your parents had spoiled them with.
âUncle Nico, look! Wyatt shouted before doing a cannonball right next to where you and Nico stood in the shallow by the edge. He popped his head above water and floated over to you both. âDid you see Uncle Nico?â
âSure did buddy,â Nico grinned, lifting the boy onto his shoulders.
Layla swam over to you, âAunty (Y/N), chicken!â
You agree with your niece and lift her onto your shoulders. Nico and you shifted to the deeper end of the pool before allowing the kids on your shoulders to start shoving each other. It may not have been fair with the age difference between the two but whereâs the fun in fairness.
Each kid did the rotations on your shoulders. Wanting to play chicken with their favourite aunt and uncle. You both were tired by the time they had given up on chicken. Nico got out and grabbed a drink for the pair of you. Joining you in the cold water once more.
The rest of the day was spent lazing by the pool. Cooling down. Eating. Drinking. The classic Australian summer. Even when the evening came around and you all made your pizzas. It was an early night after dinner because both you and Nico were crashing quickly after your travelling.Â
Christmas Eve. The night where all your siblings, their partners and the kids stay over at the house. Every year your family does the same thing. First is an early dinner, usually something quick. This year it was just a sausage sizzle. Simple and easy. Then you all dress up to give out candy as people drive past and come visit the christmas lights.
Your dad loved Christmas. And as a result, the house and front yard was lit up with Christmas lights. Since you were a teenager you and your family put up lights. But since theyâve become an empty nest, your dad plans for this event all year round. Probably why itâs won the local competition. It wasnât just a drive show display though. It was a themed walk through garden.Â
The property you grew up on was a large block on the outskirts of the town. The large front yard had a nice garden thanks to your mum and every Christmas it got decorated. Each year it was themed. And on Christmas Eve night everyone from your family dressed up to match the theme. Giving out all sorts of lollies and little treats.Â
This yearâs theme was The Nightmare Before Christmas. Your favourite Christmas movie. One you watched every Christmas Eve night. You and Nico were to dress up as Jack and Sally since you had the costumes from last yearâs Halloween. Your parents were Dr Finkelstein and Jewel Finkelstein.Â
After dinner you all start to get ready. The sun was setting meaning it was nearly show time. You were lucky that Kendall liked to paint so she helped you and Nico with your makeup. Once your dad was ready, the family gathered on the road to watch the lights turn on.Â
âAre you ready?â You asked Nico excitedly.
This was the best theme to have been chosen in your opinion. You were bouncing with energy as the lights flickered on and everyone clapped and cheered. Your neighbours had all gathered around to watch it as well.Â
âThatâs amazing Paul,â Nico compliments, looking around in complete awe.Â
It was a matter of minutes before the first cars started to park up and excited kids climbed out. Each of you got into character. You were holding a bowl full of lollies for the kids as they explored the garden. One thing you loved was the little detailed and hidden gems your father sneaks into the designs.Â
Your mother wandered over to where you were standing watching Nico engage with the kids. One thing he loved was that he wasnât known for hockey here. As much as he loved hockey⌠He loved being just a regular, non-famous, person.Â
âHeâs so good with kids,â Your mum coos.Â
You blush. Of course he was. Youâve known that since the first family skate you got to attend alongside him. âHe really is.â
The family continued this till 10pm when all the kids finally went to bed. That was when all of the adults pulled out their Santa gifts to put under the tree. Knowing the kids will be up early, everyone went to bed not long after. Nico and yourself hid out in your room, chucking A Nightmare Before Christmas on to watch. You had introduced Nico to your own little tradition. Way back when you first started to date. After the movie, and some midnight snacks, you both went to sleep, out like a light.
The sun was rising by the time you had heard your mother tinkering around the kitchen. Like Easter, breakfast was a big thing. Many of the same things were on the menu. Pancakes, waffles, eggs, bacon. You rolled over once more, tucking yourself under Nicoâs arm. Thank God your room was cool at the moment in time.Â
âMorning beautiful,â Nico whispers.
You feel a kiss on your forehead. âMerry Christmas Neeks.â
âMerry Christmas baby.â
The two of you bask in the glow of the early morning with each other. Nicoâs fingers tracing up and down your body. You traced shapes on his bare back and shoulders. Pressing the occasional kiss to his bareskin that you could reach.Â
âLetâs get up, yeah? Before the kids?â Nico suggests.
You hum in agreement. Both of you got dressed in your bathers. It was a tradition you and your siblings had when you were kids and your parents had restarted it now some of the grandkids are older. The first present they get is a water pistol each for a water fight. Unknown to your siblings, you had also brought the bunch-o-balloons to fill for the kids.
âMerry Christmas,â Nico greets as you join your mum, Kendall, Kacey and Molly in the kitchen.Â
âMorning you two. Happy Chrissie.â
You check the Christmas tree and all the stockings. So many presents had found their way mysteriously under the tree. Nico hands you a mimosa which was perfect for the early morning start. Much like your sisters were drinking. You helped your mum with breakfast while the other adults started to come in and grab drinks. Once you heard a giggle from the hall, everyone shared a look.Â
âKids,â Sarah whispers in horror jokingly.Â
Within seconds of that word being uttered, a gaggle of kids came racing down the hall and into the lounge where the Christmas tree and all the presents were.Â
âAh, kiddos, you know the drill,â You dad calls, holding up the sack of water pistols.Â
All the kids raced outside into the heat, not bothering to change out of theyâre pyjamas. You, Nico and some of your other siblings followed suit. You always participated in the fun. Nico on the other hand had never witnessed the sheer carnage that was the Christmas Day Water Fight. As your dad laid the water guns in the middle of the yard, you filled the water balloons and placed a couple buckets filled in the middle of the yard as well. All the ammo was there.
âAre we ready?â Your dad asked. All the kids screamed excitedly.Â
Dylan, Molly, Nick, You and Nico stood amongst the kids. âGo!â
Everything was pure chaos. Water balloons being thrown. People were sprayed. Within minutes everyone was drenched. The kids loved to gang up on the older participants but it was also the other way around. You guys always targeted certain kids if they had been annoying.Â
âNoooo Uncle Dylan,â Lyla screamed as she ran away from your younger brother.
He cackled as he chased after her with a huge water gun. âYou better run.â
It went on for about half an hour until the kids had had enough and went to change. You pulled on your coverup and Nico patted himself dry and threw on his shirt once more. Everyone made their way inside and had breakfast. It was great.
âWhoâs gonna help Santa this year and hand out the presents?â
You mum looked over to Nico, âNico, do you want to take on the role? Itâs rare we have you home for Christmas.â
Nico agreed and started, one by one, handing out the presents to whoâs written on the tag. He worked the pile down to one last one. He grabbed it and sat back down beside you. Everyone started opening their presents. You enjoyed watching everyoneâs reactions to opening their gifts. The happy squeals from the kids.Â
It came down to the last few presents. You had finished opening yours and just enjoyed being cuddled up to Nico. Nico had finished but had one little box in his hand.Â
âUh, Iâd like to say something.â Nico stood from the couch and pulled you up from the couch. He held your hand as he sank down to one knee. Opening the ring box in his hands. â(Y/N)... you have been my best friend since you came into my life. Both of us being new to Newark, coming from another country. The city wouldnât have become home without you. Iâm so proud of how far weâve come as a couple⌠as adults.â That pulled a laugh from your older family members. âI love you to the moon and back. Iâd be honoured if youâd become my wife.â
âOf course!â Nico slid the ring onto the correct finger before standing and giving you a kiss. âMrs. Hischier has a nice ring to it doesnât it?â
Nico grins, âI canât wait!â

Sound System Culture Mini Festival
Sunday 15 September 2024
Review by Gopal Dutta
Itâs a rainy September afternoon in the centre of Huddersfield, and Iâm on Wood Street for the Sound System Culture Mini Festival, part of the nationwide Heritage Open Days programme.
The street transforms into a vibrant, colourful space where everyone is welcome. Gazebos shelter the Zion Inna-Vision Sound System, alongside several stalls catering to the daytime crowd who have braved the showers. Thereâs face-painting, vegan food and cakes, cards, and books on offer. Rainbow-coloured bunting flutters in the wind, the whole scene giving me that âfestivalâ vibe despite the poor weather.
In the glowing, cave-like atmosphere of the Northern Quarter bar, a steady stream of people take their seats around the large pull-down screen that has been especially set up, and an air of expectancy pervades the air. âFilling up nicely,â says Professor Julian Henriques, visiting from London to present a programme of documentaries commissioned by his research unit, Sonic Street Technologies, at Goldsmiths University. Every seat is soon occupied, and more attendees line the walls or sit on the steps, eager to share in this collective experience. The distant siren from the outdoor sound system blends into the indoor atmosphere, merging the worlds of film and reality.
Introducing the first film, a fascinating documentary about Gabre Selassie and the formation of the Kingston Dub Club, Julian acknowledges the importance of Huddersfield in reggae history, mentioning the legendary Venn Street nightclub and declaring that âHuddersfield in the 80s was the epicentre of reggae in the UK.â
The film programme is an excellent whistle-stop tour of the current landscape of sound systems around the world, taking in Jamaica, India, Colombia, Brazil, Australia, and finishing, with a poetic circularity, in South Africa. All of the films highlight reggae musicâs power as a force for self-empowerment, community building, and as a social safety valve.
Throughout the screening, more people continue to file into the venue. Each time the door opens and closes, you can hear the outdoor sound system and the lively Brazilian drums performance by Grupo de Gringos Percussion.
As the films end to a warm applause from the audience, we are at standing room only, with a diverse mix of young and old, a wide range of races and cultures representedâHuddersfieldâs diversity in all its glory.
The scene inside mirrors whatâs depicted on screen inside: a dimly lit, atmospheric room with a diverse crowd, food, and drink being served. The team have done a great job recreating the vibe of a dub club.
As the energy from the films flows out into the street, the same heavy bassline fills the air, with people chatting, dancing, laughing, eating, and drinking, with DJ Andi G on the decks and Marshall on mic duties.
Eventually, the sun makes an appearance, and over the next few hours, more people arrive, swaying to reggae bassline. The free entry means many passersby pop in, drawn by the sweet music and vibrant atmosphere. Conversations flow, with strangers bonding over their shared love for the music, their faces lighting up as familiar tracks play. There is a collective cheer as Marshall exclaims, âWe donât want no rain no more,â echoing the crowdâs mood.
Riddim Master from Ras Ambassador Sound System then takes control of the decks, delivering an all-vinyl set that opens with Rod Taylorâs unmistakable "His Imperial Majesty" and the warm crackle of dub. Next up is Bigga Puss from Shakatone Esquire Sound System, warming up the crowd with a seamless selection of ska, rocksteady, and roots. As the familiar tones of âKunta Kinte Dubâ by The Revolutionaries fade in, a moment of recognition sweeps through the crowd. Finally, the legendary Papa Burkey, pioneer of the Earth Rocker Sound System from the 80s, takes over, keeping the energy high as the dancing continues, alongside Ras Sis Highness and Dee Bo General on the mic.
Well done to the event team for creating such a vibrant festival, much-needed entertainment in the heart of Huddersfield.

GONERFEST 16:Â 9/26/19- 9/29/19, Memphis, TN (all photos by Slim Hiney unless otherwise noted...the good ones were by other people).
Why did it take me so long to get my ass down to Memphis and attend Goner Fest? I have no idea. The last few years my pal and I went out to Cropped Out in Louisville, KY and since that wasnât happening this year we decided to do Goner Fest and that, my friends, turned out to be a great decision.
We got lucky with a cool air bnb in a midtown spot right n the middle of all the action (walking distance to one of the venues).
We missed The Limes at the opening ceremony at the gazebo (spittinâdistance from Goner Records who, of course,  are the fine folks who put this festival togetherâŚâŚwe made two trips to Goner to record shop, most excellent shop! Killer selection and friendly, helpful staff).
Thursday night at the Hi-Tone started with between band DJs Anthony Bedard and Mitch Cardwell revving the crowd up. Minneapolisâ Green/Blue, a band made up of folks from top-notch bands like The Soviettes and The Blind Shake, got the party started and their energy jolted me out of my sickness (my scratchy throat had just startedâŚit was to get worse over the weekend).
Green/ Blue
Madison, WIâs, The Hussy, who have a new record out on Dirtnap, blazed through a set of hi-nrg tunes and were certainly having fun doing it. I met head Hussy Bobby later in the night and he was a most righteous chap.
Sweet Knives were up next and this band features Memphis legend Alicija Trout whoâs got lots of charisma. Not my favorite band of the festival or anything but did enjoy most of it.
Louisianaâs Trampoline Team very well may have been my favorite band of the festival. A chant/ jitter punk growl that  sounded like the same song over and over. A totally freaking GREAT song so even if it was the same song I sure didn't mind. Donât miss these folks if they blow through your town.
Trampoline TeamÂ
Canadaâs early 70âs psych band Simply Saucer (featuring Cleveland legend Craig Bell) bored meâŚ.well at least for the first half of the set then really turned it on and the 2nd half of the set and burned.
At 1:00 AM I was still standing upright and thank god âcos the King Brothers took the stage and proceeded to âŚ.well, dump a garbage can full of all kinds of muck all over the unsuspecting show goers (or maybe they were suspecting). They growled and grunted their way through set with the singer mostly in the crowd standing on hands and shoulders. These guys were insane.
King Brothers insanityÂ
 Friday 9/27/19
Of the afternoon bands at Memphis Made Brewery the ones I really enjoyed were New Zealandâs Vincent HL (Crazy Horse meets VU said I), Tucsonâs Lenguas Largas (a few folks from Resonars) dripped and oozed rock and roll blood. Kelley Sanderson, who used to be in Those Darlinâs (a DAGGER fave) played a nice folksy solo set.
Vincent H.L.Â
Kelley AndersonÂ
Back at the Hi-Tone on Friday night the DJs were Siltbreezeâs Tom Lax and Feeding Tube Recordsâ Byron Coley a few guys who know a thing or two about music. Good music.
We missed Mall Walker but caught Richard Papiercuts et Les Inspecteurs and I think I like the recordings a bit more than seeing them on stage. His Scott Walker meets Joy Division sound is certainly unique but again, gimme the records.
Paul Caporino has been doing the M.O.T.O. (Masters of the Obvious) machine for many years with a hundred hit songs and they played my fave âDick About It.â Lots a energy and hooks and  rapid fire tunes.
Good-natured Aussie folks Thigh Master delighted the crowd with their wiry nâ wired pop sounds and they were among my faves (excellent, new record out on Goner).Â
Thigh Master
The last time I saw Nots, was when they blew through Denver about 4 or 5 years ago as a quartet but think theyâve been a trio for quite some time and certainly delivered on this night with 30 minutes of pure RAWK (new rekkid out on Goner as well).
Nots (photo by Dizzy Dean)Â
Headliners on this night was Oblivians (the band featuring Eric from Goner) and hey, having Quintron on keyboards was like getting extra whipped cream on your ice cream. Another one of my favorite sets at Goner as these gents barely had 4 walls and a ceiling left by setâs end. Â
 Saturday 9/28/19
Of the afternoon bands on Saturday the ones that converted me were the high energy of Opossums and New Zealandâs two-piece Na Noise (featuring one of the gals from Vincent HL) who plunked out a clutch of excellent songs. What can I say, Iâm a convert. Â Canadian punk band Priors seemed like they came to do two thinks, drink beer and play some great punk rock and succeeded in both (singer was a total character) while the Dixie Dicks gay take on country was hee-larious and loads of fun.
Tucsonâs Resonars have been a fave of mine for a long while and they did not disappoint at all. Leader Matt Rendon has too many good songs to count and played many of them on this night while closing out the afternoon gig was Oblivions/Reigning Soundâs Greg Cartwright & the Tip Tops  doing a lovely set of gravelly/soulful tunes. Still love his vocals.

Back to the Hi-Tone for Saturday night and the DJs were The Mummiesâ Russell Quan and Bazooka Joe (Slovenly Records) and these cats had a bonafide dance party going on!
DJs Russell Quan and Bazooka Joe
We only caught the last tune or two by Teardrop City (featuring Laurie Stirrat) but got front and center for Australiaâs Parsnip and while I like their new record (out now on Trouble in Mind) the live set was even better. Lots oâ energy, charisma and fun, catchy songs.
Not sure why I expected to not like Giorgio Murderer in a live setting but really liked their set. Two guys on synths and a drum machine (at least from where I could see in the back of the club).
Memphis faves Hash Redactor drilled holes with guitars all night (the band also featured 2 Nots and one Ex Cult) and it was another one of my fave sets. Do not miss if they fall into your town.
Tommy and the Commies hail from the great white north and brought their mod fun down for a quick but catchy set while the kings of budget rock, The Mummies hit the stage at 1:00am (with a short film beforehand) and played all the hits (including their cover of Devoâs âUncontrollable Urgeâ). What a night.
The Mummies (pretty sure Rob Yazzie took this photo)Â Â
Sunday 9/29/19
Closing ceremonies in the sun was a nice way to end the festival with the Sharde Thomas & the Rising Star Fife & Drum Band who had the crowd raising their hands and shaking their feet.
Gonerfest is a top notch Grade A. Eric , Zac and their team put on an excellent festival and the folks who attend really love and  appreciate it (ie: no dicks at all, everyone was cool). I got my ass out there this year so next year itâs your turn (and I plan on being there as well).

Competition for better value camping gear!
New Post has been published on https://www.4wdsupacentre.com.au/news/competition-for-better-value-camping-gear/
Competition for better value camping gear!
The definition of camping is retreating to the outdoors, usually with one or more overnight stays away from your permanent home, made more comfortable by taking a temporary shelter with you. When many people think of camping, they instantly think to themselves that they will be roughing it, but long gone are the days of camping under nothing but a tarpaulin. Modern camping setups can be as comfortable as you would possibly want them to be, or as bare basic as necessary for survival, and in previous generations a complete camping setup would have been out of reach for most campers with regards to budget, and would be reserved for only people with more money than sense.
But those days are long gone thanks to the efforts of Australiaâs favourite camping store 4WD Supacentre, offering a massive range of gear to suit nearly camping setup for much less than you would imagine possible. Many people looking at getting into camping will often embark on their research journey, and will come to the easy conclusion that you simply cannot go wrong with the gear you can find at 4WD Supacentre, from pop up tents, roof top tents, and swags, all the way to simple free standing shelters in the Gazebo range and fast and easy shelters like the complex range of awning shelters including the incredible value 270° King Wing which comes in at one third of the price of similar units on the market!
When selecting a camping setup, you should consider a few factors, the first of which being how many people you have in your camping crew, if you are flying solo then an extremely basic setup makes a lot of sense, first of all it is quicker to setup, and easier to assemble on your own which is obviously a key requirement, second of all, there is no need to have a Kings 5 person Swift tent when you could set up a Kwiky Single Swag in a fraction of the time. The shelter you choose will depend on your application, and with options ranging in size from the 1.4m x 2m awning all the way up to the massive Kings 6m x 3m Gazebo and many options in between. With the choice of shelter there are also choices of accessory ranging from additional Awning and Gazebo walls, LED Lighting and even easy to attach tents which connect underneath for plenty of additional shelter in next to no time! Keeping your food fresh faces the same issues as with everything with a compact and lightweight 45L Fridge Freezer offering plenty of usable space for shorter trips all the way up to a dual zone double compartment 90L Fridge freezer, regardless of the refrigerated space you require there is something for everyone and at a fraction of the cost of similar featured units on the market. Being fully functional fridge units means they can chill all the way from -18°C up to +10°C for absolute set and forget temperature control on the tracks and at home. The 4WD Supacentre range of Adventure Kings Gear is the best value for money in the country, to find out more about the entire range of gear head to www.4WDSupacentre.com.au call us on 1800 88 39 64 or visit one of our stores to secure the best value camping setup in oz!

Spending summer at the beach (or river) is about as Australian as you can get. So, we thought weâd put together a short list of tips so you can get the most fun out of your next trip to the beach.
1. Invest in a beach shade
Spending a whole day at the beach in the sun can be taxing on the old body. There is only so much relief the odd dunk in the water can provide. And considering there are only a few shady trees on most beaches (few of us splash on tropical islands in the shade of coconut trees), shade must be brought to you.
The humble beach shade is a game changer. Available in pop-up tent and gazebo and umbrella styles, and Moana-style V/L configurations, there is a beach shade to suit all conditions and even the biggest of families. The main benefit of a sun shelter is that it blocks out the sun. Some will just act as a shade, others go further and offer UPF50+ protection.
But beach sunshades are no one-trick pony. They also provide wind protection and privacy from the hoards of other beachgoers. And their use isnât to be restricted to just the seaside. Take your shelter on your next picnic, to watch your favourite team over the weekend, even set it up in the backyard for extra outdoor shelter at your next Sunday BBQ.

2. Slip! Slop! Slap!
Speaking of sun protection: slipping, slopping, and slapping not only protects you and your family from the risks of skin cancer but the painful effects of sunburn. Summer is about enjoying the outdoors and the beach â the last thing you want is a horrible bout of sunburn. What a dampener that would be!
3. Go to a less popular beach
Australia is known for its beach culture. Sydney has Bondi. Adelaide has Glenelg. Melbourne has St Kilda. Perth has Cottesloe. As soon as the temperature slips above 30, these beaches are a hive of activity â youâll struggle to find a spot for your towel let alone some shade. Thatâs why, at the height of summer, heading to a less popular beach can be the key to summertime enjoyment.
Be mindful when selecting a beach that it may not be patrolled by surf lifesavers. Surf Life Saving Australia has a great tool on their website called Beachsafe, which allows you to search Australia-wide and set it to only show beaches that are patrolled by lifesavers. It also provides information as to the best part of the beach to paddle in, amenities (cafes, toilets, etc.), surf conditions, and whether itâs a good spot to cast a line as well.
Even at some lesser known beaches parking can be tricky. Get in early so you score a good park and put a positive spin on the walk from the car to the beach. Make the most of the walk among the fancy beachside mansions that seem to stand over most Australian beaches these days. You might just spot your dream home!

4. Take good food and drinks
Food at beachside kiosks can be expensive, poor quality, and really bad for you. Rather than spending your hard earned cash on fish and chips, consider taking your own food and drinks. And have some fun with it â turn your next beach trip into the ultimate picnic!
Donât forget to take an insulated picnic bag or cooler with you to keep your nosh cool and fresh.
5. Take toys and games for the kids
Kids have short attention spans. Keep them entertained by having a range of activities and things for them to do at the ready. Pack a snorkel, a boogie board, the beach cricket set, some colouring in books, even a deck or two of cards (fun for the adults too).
Going to the beach isnât all about swimming and sunbathing. Enjoy the time outdoors and vary up your activities. And donât forget to pack a book!
Get everyone off their phones with a round of beach cricket. Just remember to Slip! Slop, Slap! Image: Sunshine Coast Australia
6. Be prepared
Seems this tip pops up in all aspects of life, doesnât it? There must be something in it. Being prepared can be the difference between having an alright time and having a ripper beach trip!
Have a list, check it twice, and organise your gear in advance. Sure, a trip down to the beach for the afternoon doesnât need military planning. But remembering to pack the bottle opener or sunscreen can have an effect on how much you enjoy your time.
If you anticipate long walks between the car and the beach, make sure you choose light, easy to carry gear. Rather than a large icebox, consider an IceMule bag or wheeled style cooler. Instead of an awkward-to-cart beach shelter, consider something that comes in a small, easy to carry âyoga styleâ bag like the Caribee Guardian UV Beach Shelter.
If you want to head to the beach more often, build a small kit of the gear youâll need and store it all together in an accessible spot in the spare room or shed. This way you can just grab it and run out the door when the weather is just right.
How do you like to have fun at the beach when the weather is warm?Â
