Pokemon SV Spoilers Ahead! (Part 3)

Yet again another part to my SV Spoilers! Is it a good enough time to where I can post these without a keep reading? Yes? No? Eh, doesn’t matter for now.

I’m back once again with two more Paradox Pokemon, one Past and one Future. Both Lucario.

Let’s start off with Surging Aura:

Surging Aura marks the second Past Paradox design I’ve done, the first being Iron Maw from Part 2.

In the ancient past, Lucario were unable to contain their Aura, leading to it constantly being expelled from various points on their body in order to avoid overloading.

This design essentially “retcons” the Dex Entry for Mega Lucario. Rather than the black streaks being from intermingling Aura and Mega Evo Energy, this rolls with the idea that Mega Evolution just made its aura stronger, with the black streaks being a result of stronger aura.

Now, its typing. Its part Psychic due to the common argument I’ve seen in the past of “Steel makes no sense, why isn’t it Psychic”. As for its Dark typing, that is because it fit the “overloaded to the point of being feral” design it has going for it. (Also, because the two types are my favorites, but we don’t have to talk about any favoritism here...)

Lastly, a couple extra details. It’s got a larger build and goes on all fours when running.

Next up is the Future Paradox Lucario, Iron Zenith:

Yeah, this one’s the only one I fully colored, as opposed to only coloring the neon lights.

The Steel-typing of Lucario fit in just fine here, so It stays. Instead of Fighting, it has the Fairy type, with the general idea that its Aura is pure and perfected in this future state.

In the far future, Lucario has reached the same level of merciless combat capabilities as its Past Paradox and Mega counterparts, though in a cold and calculating manner rather than wrathful and loud.

I decided to forgo the Mega details here, as it doesn’t necessarily NEED them, given Iron Thorns. I also may or may not have forgotten.

Its claws (both hands and feet) and its tail can retract quickly. While its claws are only deployed when necessary for combat, it lets its tail flow freely when idle.

In case it wasn’t made blatantly obvious by my making both types of Paradoxes, Lucario is one of my top favorite Pokemon. Awesome design, awesome character in the best movie in the franchise, what’s not to like?

So, in case you haven't heard...

Penny, from Scarlet and Violet is officially related to both Peony and Peonia (and, well, Rose too, since he'd be her uncle)! Peony is her father, and Peonia is her sister.

For those unaware, this is Peony.

And this is Peonia!

The woman in this image is (presumably) their mother (unless Penny is a half-sibling or adopted, which I don't think is the case).

And let me just say, this makes me so, so happy, seeing this visual/genetic diversity in a family.

So many people are completely ignorant to how genetics and biracial people can exist and have their genes expressed. Two siblings from a biracial couple, such as a black and white person, can look totally different. One could have curly hair and one could have straight! One could be super light-skinned and the other dark-skinned! Two kids from two parents doesn't mean that they necessarily just get a "mix" of how they both look.

Seeing this represented makes me so happy. I really hope more people realize just how different siblings from interracial couples can look. I really hope people don't erase this aspect of Penny's character, or think that she doesn't look Black enough or enough like a POC.

For a real life example, here are a pair of biracial twins!

So, basically, the point of this post is this:

Penny is Peonia's sister and Peony's daughter! This was my headcanon for a while, considering her name is Penny and based on Peony, but seeing it confirmed makes me so happy. I want this post to end on the note to inform people that biracial people can look like this. Biracial people can pass completely as white. White-passing biracial people can have dark-skinned parents and family members. Biracial people don't owe you passing as their ethnicity and the ethnicity/race of their family.

Please embrace this aspect of Penny and learn what being biracial can look like! Understand, acknowledge, and accept how biracial people can look! I've already seen people frustrated that Penny doesn't look "Black enough" or saying that her design makes no sense, or that she couldn't possibly be Peony's daughter, which is already a huge issue for REAL LIFE BLACK PEOPLE, who are told this!!! Even if you don't realize it, these thoughts and ideas ARE racist to have. How you view people when they're not real can often be indicative of how you treat them when they ARE real!

I hope that if you didn't already know these things, that you don't feel bad about it, and instead come away with new knowledge and understanding!

Edit: Also she could just be adopted? I meant to say that in this post and forgot. Like, adoption is a thing. Like, we know that Bede was an orphan and all... (I however don't think she was adopted based on her visual similarities)

Additional edit: I'm not trying to imply that their family is Black, either—I mentioned Black biracial families as an example, and also mentioned it at the end because I specifically made this post in response to people saying Penny "isn't black enough" and directing their racism towards Black biracial families. In all likelihood, their family is probably implied to be the Pokémon equivalent of Indian.

teal mask spoilers below. thoughts on kieran

so upon finishing teal mask i made the sudden realization that kieran is probably one of the best written characters in pokemon. one of the best written villains in pokemon. because he's so real.

he is an inherently shallow person who only ever sees people's values by their strength. he's shy and socially awkward yet still looks down on people as weak. he doesn't vocalize it, but he hates weak people. and he hates himself because he's weak. and he's reminded every day that he's weak because carmine is strong and carmine is mean to him, and so he internalized carmine's bullying.

he finds comfort in the story of ogerpon because in spite of how much shit is thrown her way, ogerpon is still strong. he sees ogerpon as himself but better, because ogerpon's strong and he's weak. he projects himself onto ogerpon, yet he can never be her because she's strong because she accepts that she has people who love her, yet kieran can't ever be ogerpon because he can't ever accept that his grandparents love him because he views his grandparents as weak for "letting" carmine be mean to him, so he rejects their love.

and then the events of teal mask happens and he meets you, the protagonist, who enters his life by beating carmine handily in battle, as such you are instantly worth something to him. he doesn't shut up at the dinner table about you. he sees you as another ogerpon, another symbol of strength.

so he latches onto you, not as a friend, but as an object. he sees you as a wall to cower behind when carmine's mean to him. and yet you abandon him. you team up with carmine to help ogerpon. and he's not a part of the group. now, you're just another one of the loyal trio to him. a mean bully.

so now, for the first time in his life, he realizes there's no ogre, there's no you, there's only him. and for the first time in his life he has to actually put the leg work in to become his idea of strong.

so of course he collapses when ogerpon chooses you over him. he never treated ogerpon as a person with wants and desires. just like he never treated you as a person with wants and desires.

because he's weak.

Pokemon SV Spoilers Ahead! (Part 2)

This is a Part 2 to a prior post, as indicated by the title. This doesn’t mean you need to see the other first though.

The first paradox of this batch is Ore Maw:

Ore Maw is currently the only Past Paradox I have designed, and it is a Paradox Duraludon.

Its first basis is a mountain dotted with cave homes. In the past, Durant could have nested there. The Durant would feed Ore Maw, and Ore Maw would serve as their protection.

The second basis is iron ore. I turned the wavy blue lines and most blue exposures from Duraludon into wavy streams of iron ore and exposed iron chunks.

Were it not for the united ability Protosynthesis, Ore Maw would likely have Lightningrod.

Next up we’ve got a couple I made for fun, not necessarily to fit in. This one is Iron Cage:

A Paradox Electrode.

Its based on a Master Ball. The eye shape would be more consistent, but... Doing both eyes isn’t my strong suit, at least not in traditional art.

To make it more distinct than just “Master Ball Electrode with Metal Sonic eyes”, I made it open up. It would close itself when it needs to move around fast though.

The name “Cage” comes from the nature of Poke Balls as capturing devices. Were it not a signature move for a legendary, it would probably learn Thunder Cage.

Lastly, there’s Iron Justice:

Iron Justice is a Paradox Unown.

It’s based on the theory that the Unown are Arceus’ 1,000 arms. To show it, I based it a bit off Arceus itself as well as vaguely off of biblically accurate angels.

Its name “Justice” comes from Arceus’ move Judgement.

Its normal-typing comes from Arceus’ default type.

Its neons, yet again, come from Arceus. This time from his eyes.

Yeaaah, this batch is a bit more simple overall, since the last two are Paradoxes of fairly simple Pokemon. Anyways, that’s all five of my Paradox Pokemon designs. I had fun making these, and posting these has given me a bit of a confidence boost. I may post even more traditional art here in the future!

Giacomo, Ortega, and Atticus (at least only because we've seen him without the mask before this) are all pretty recognizable for the most part, but God, ERI????? MELA?? Mela looks like she's TWELVE without her usual outfit and makeup and Eri is just, like, well. Unrecognizable. Although I'm so glad to see how they all look when not dressed up!

(And for those worried, no, this isn't permanent, it's because they're studying/doing makeup tests since they missed a lot of school as Team Star and Eri specifically wanted them to be in their uniforms since it's easier.)
