#7: First Impressions

Longtime followers of this blog will remember that this one was voted the best episode of the entire show. I think we can agree to disagree on this one, since I totally understand.

While I'm not normally too big a fan of backstory episodes, this one really turned the cuteness up to 11. Plus it was vintage Milo Murphy's Law, with the focus on Milo and Melissa with and minimal Doof Interference, which is always a win.

I liked how this episode sort of paralleled Going the Extra Milo (in that it was about Milo taking another kid to school in his own unique way), but made it about Melissa instead of Zack. I guess that's also kind of a two-edged sword though, because it showed that to be best friends with Milo, you have to go through a life threatening experience with him always protecting you. And I have to feel for Bradley too. He got totally shafted, so it's understandable why he would hold a grudge against Milo. (Although he did end up stealing the spotlight back with PnF's revival and MML's... well...)

Anyway. I'm getting off topic. The younger versions of Cavendish and Dakota were fun too. I gotta wonder though, how did Dakota know that the burrito he was about to eat was so good, it only exists at that particular time and place? Unless, of course, he was just saying that to sweet talk Rita into making it happen. And knowingly risking his own life for an amazing burrito? AND admitting that it was risky, but pointing out how it was worth it? That just fits Dakota's character too well.

And I can't forget the best screenshot of the entire episode:

A few things here:

Zack is pushing Melissa off the platform while Milo is just hiding out, employing the "wait for everybody else to take each other out before joining the fight" strategy. I don't know why, but that's hilarious to me.

M.Square is Agent P. Makes sense to me, since Milo was the only one of the trio to work directly with him during the episode.

MC.Master is a pistachion. This is actually a reference to an idea from writer Joshua Pruett, where Melissa would have remained a pistachion after The PnF Effect. He said this would "show that not all 'chions are evil" and "advance her relationship with Zack in a sweet way." Eventually this was changed to just her arm, and eventually THAT was changed to just Bradley's arm. (I'm also pretty sure this is why that one giant pistachion went rogue and started a soup kitchen.)

And Zack is the most interesting IMO. He's a llama (or an alpaca, I'm not sure). I mean, he wasn't at The Llama Incident, but he was at the Llama Relief Fund charity race and the Forget the Llamas, Save the Alpacas benefit concert. But Melissa and Milo were both at both of those events too, so... not sure why that would be Zack's avatar.

But his username. Obviously this is after he goes through his character growth. It's exactly the same as when Candace and Stacy were playing that Ducky Momo game. Zack is extremely comfortable with this and I love it.

Interview with Melinda Curtis

A Cowboy for the Twins by Melinda Curtis is a fun read. The story has two high school classmates reuniting after several years. The hero, Tate, had a crush and was in love with Ellie, but she broke his heart by choosing his best friend, Buck.

The story begins with Ellie returning to her dad’s ranch, now divorced from Buck who fooled around on her. She wants to make her dad’s sheep ranch profitable and is trying to raise her twin daughters. As the two spend time at the rodeos and helping each other, their feelings grow, but both must let go of past issues to finally have their happily ever after. They must navigate through hurt feelings, but thankfully Ellie’s twin girls and her grandmother push the relationship along as they become the humorous matchmakers.

The story is engaging, humorous with quirky and relatable characters.

Elise Cooper: Idea for the story?

Melinda Curtis: I grew up on my grandfather’s sheep ranch. To me, it was interesting to find out how these sheep ranchers survive. I wanted the heroine to come home to a sheep ranch and try to figure out how to make it work. Plus, someone I know raises llamas. This was a leap to having the hero’s mom raising alpacas, a lucrative type of wool. I like to draw on something from the past.

EC: How would you describe the hero, Tate?

MC: He is a confirmed bachelor who cannot say no. He is guarded, loyal, vulnerable, funny, and kind. He must get over his feeling of abandonment. Because of this, he needs people to like him.

EC: How would you describe the heroine, Ellie?

MC: Stubborn, detailed, caring, and sincere.

EC: What about the relationship?

MC: Ellie did not expect it to happen. Tate was hurt by her in high school and now is unsettled about his feelings for her. There is easy banter between them. She feels frustrated by him because he is putting up walls. Both do not want to acknowledge the attraction and depth of feelings between them.

EC: What about the grandma, Gigi?

MC: Outspoken, direct, she is the truth sayer, someone who tells it like it is.

EC: What was the role of Prince the horse?

MC: Tate needed to embrace the fact that the horse was a worker more than a pet. The horse was a symbol: how Tate can get ahead if he stops being so much a pleaser.

EC: Does Ellie’s twin girls also play a role?

MC: They say the truth. They like to give advice. They have an answer for everything. They are Yin and Yang. One is prissy and the other is cowboyish. Together they are a force, which I use for comic relief.

EC: Please explain the quote, “You can’t neglect your own needs and dreams for someone else’s.”

MC: Self-care is not selfish. Reaching for their dreams was self-care.

EC: Next book(s)?

MC: The next book is A Cowgirl Never Forgets, part of the Blackwell series, out in July. It is a story about two best friends that work for the rodeo. It will be a cross series with this one, the “Cowboy Academy Series.” The hero gets tossed by a bull to protect the heroine. He gets temporary amnesia, and everything goes from there.

Later in August will be another book in this series titled Rodeo Star’s Reunion. The hero, Griff, helps the high school rodeo team. His son will finally find out Griff is his father.

Ducktales Headcanon: Della’s favorite movie is Titanic (’97)

This headcanon probably only developed as much as it did because I love the film Titanic and I’m both fascinated and sorrowed by the actual historical event. And ya know... sometimes fandoms get tangled up in my fangirl brain.

So here’s what I’m imagining:

Frank Angones said that Donald and Della are in their mid-thirties. That would’ve made them teens when Titanic was released (just picture teenage Della with a crush on Leonardo DiQuackrio XD)

I also imagine that Scrooge, being hecka old, was on the actual RMS Titanic as a second class passenger and managed to secure a spot in a lifeboat because he was on the starboard side with First Officer Murdoch, who allowed men to board the lifeboats if all the nearby women and children were already on (Second Officer Lightoller worked the port side lifeboats and launched them half-empty once the women and children were aboard, thus was responsible for the deaths of many men).

Anyway, I imagine Scrooge was invited to the premiere of the film since he was a survivor, and Della begged him to bring her along because she wanted to learn about the ordeal her uncle went through and the trailer for the movie looked amazing. So he brought her along, and while he was upset by how the film portrayed Murdoch, the breaking up of the ship, and sinking of the stern, Della pretty much adored the movie (which, in the Ducktales universe, probably starred ducks).

The character Rose had a big influence on her. Rose had a similar spirit to her of wanting to travel and work with her hands and be free, not sit around and be thought of as delicate. Della was amazed to see that she and Rose had so many similar dreams (and that they both had strained relationships with their mothers but that’s a headcanon for another day).

In the film, Jack promises to take Rose to a pier where they can ride roller coasters and also ride horses on the beach, right in the surf. At the end of the film, as a camera pans across photos of Rose’s life after Titanic, we see that she did fulfill that dream, albeit without Jack. In Ducktales, we see in the episode “The Great Dime Chase!” that Della did know how to ride. She had a saddle, and the mural on the ceiling depicts what looks like her riding an alpaca or llama (she could probably ride horses, too).

Also, three times in Titanic, Jack, Rose, or (in a super cute deleted scene) both of them, sing the song “Come Josephine in my Flying Machine,” which I imagine was already a song that Scrooge taught to Della, his little aspiring pilot. ”Come Josephine in my flying machine and it’s up she goes, up she goes Balance yourself like a bird on a beam in the air she goes, there she goes Up, up, a little bit higher Oh, my! The moon is on fire Come Josephine in my flying machine going up, all on, goodbye.” So at the premiere of the film, when Jack first started singing the song, Scrooge and Della both gasped and turned to each other and mouthed things and made gestures that basically meant “It’s the song!!!” and “I know!!!” And while their freaking out was pretty much silent, they did momentarily distract the people next to or behind them.

At the end of the film, in the same sequence that we see Rose’s riding picture, we also see that she went on to be a pilot. The picture reminds me of the picture of Della in the hidden shrine in Scrooge’s forbidden library.

I also imagine that she loved the song, “My Heart Will go On,” and that it took on so much more meaning for her after she lost her sons’ father. Every lyric reminded her of her one true love and at times it was almost too painful to listen to, but other times it was cathartic.

Della also learned as much as she could about the actual sinking, and that Scrooge had been criticized for surviving the disaster at the time because he was a man and there were still women and children on board. Della was good with numbers though, and if anyone dared to accuse her uncle or any other male passenger who survived of cowardice, she had a whole speech prepared that she never had to use. “Okay. There were over 2,200 people on board and space in the lifeboats for 1,178. Only a few more than 700 survived, which means 400 more people could have been saved. About 163 women and children died that night, so had the crew been trained for such an emergency, they all could’ve still been saved, plus 237 more men than the ones who survived, like my uncle. So no surviving man displaced a woman or child in the lifeboats!”

Final thought: Della chose the 95th anniversary of the Titanic’s sinking as her date of departure on the Spear of Selene, which got wrecked on its maiden voyage, as well.

^These two clues give us a strong hint that April 15th (most likely 2007) was the date she left, with the boys hatching just days afterward.

We know the writers chose this date because it is the date HDL made their debut in animation, but it is also the anniversary of the sinking of the RMS Titanic, which took place on April 15th, 1912. If Della were a Titanic fangirl, as she is in DG Headcanon Land, then it’d be kind of spooky that she would choose to depart on the anniversary of the Titanic’s sinking, even stealing the ship early to do so.

Every time I watch a clip of Titanic (especially the one I linked to earlier in this post), Rose reminds me soooo much of Della. I hope we get to see flashbacks of Della and the boys’ father in upcoming seasons.

• One day I had the random thought that nothing was stopping me from getting a llama. I started researching and found I'd do better with an alpaca. The research continued. (This was about a month ago).

• Last night my aunt said she'd like to get an alpaca.

• I started spouting off most of what I had learned about alpacas.

• My dad, joking, said he'd get me an alpaca if I got rid of my cat and kept my room clean for a year.

• Um no thanks, I love my cat. Plus I knew he'd be against having an alpaca once he learned of all the expenses that came along with owning an alpaca.

• Guess who went "hahaha nope" when I mentioned that he'd have to pay about a hundred dollars towards hay/alfalfa/other every month?

• Oh his face when I kept going on about the vet bills and other expenses was priceless.

Cutie Reviews: Doki Doki Sept 18

Hi guys, here’s the (possibly) long-awaited Doki Doki September review that I probably should have done earlier this past week or two... or three. It kind of got put off, plus I got a new game and a new book I was excited about, and there was a hospital-related incident and some back pains...

Anyway I don’t have much else to say right now so we’ll just get right into it!

This months theme: First Day of School

As the weather gets cooler and we return from our summer vacations, we have to get back into the swing of things. This month’s theme is “Shin-gakki” or First Day of School. This crate is full of items to make school, or the workplace for those out of school, cute and fun!

For this month the Suteki Crate focuses on several practical Sanrio based character goods, namely My Melody, Sumikko Gurashi, and Jinbesan. I approve!

(As usual I forgot the picture until I started writing this.)

I love the adorable pen pouch and memo pen, what about you guys? :3

(Also as a side note, in the comic for the month we’re introduced to a new boy character, Hibiki Shinosuke, who finds out first-hand why Tomomi is avoided in class. He’s really funny, so I hope we see more of him~)

Sumikko Gurashi Pen Case

Our first item is this slim and adorably designed pen/pencil/other small stationery item case. It features the Sumikko Gurashi trying various school clubs, besides the tennis one I got there is also soccer, volleyball, soft ball, music, and basketball.

Besides the music one, I’m pretty happy I got this one because I like tennis. But they all would have been really cute, so I wouldn't have been disappointed either way.

These are also double sided, providing 100% cuteness on both sides!

It’s also made to be discrete while safely snuggling the inner-contents; which means you could probably also use this on a daily basis if you didn’t attend school anymore or was going out for the day. They are on the small side so there are a handful of items that probably won’t fit, but there is also a variety of items that will.

I pretty much use it and the one I got last year (or maybe the year before?) to hold all the pens and pencils I get from these boxes!

I really like these x3 not only are they cute, but they are functional, well-made, and I like how they’re sleek and slim with a very smooth cloth fabric, rather than bulky and hard, which were the types of cases I had growing up when I attended school.

They were plastic which made them hard and fragile, and they got dirty fairly easy (but to be fair that was sometimes my fault), but I usually made them last until the school year ended. They came in handy due to their bigger size (I could fit some of everything school related in one) and I always had tons of coloring options, and I always found a pink one to buy each year... but I’m pretty sure my middle school self would have preferred these.

Jinbesan Folder

(Sorry the pics are kind of wonky, that’s what happens to a folder that’s been bent for a long period of time.)

Our next item is this large, colorful Jinbesan folder- which is pretty vital for pretty much everyone, no matter the grade. I know I had multiple each year, one for each subject like any other person.

There was a few different designs this was available in, and this one is also double-sided:

Again, I’m pretty sure I would have loved to use these when I was younger; not that I don’t now though :P but I do have papers I can use it for now so it’s not like it’s going to go to waste... I just need to fix it’s bendiness first.

This folder material is like a very sleek plastic (maybe vinyl? I don’t really know terms for these things >3<), so I like knowing that if it gets dirty then in theory it should be an easy clean. Prior to me opening the box it was already bent, but staying in the box so long didn’t help it, but that’s my own fault and I’m sure with enough weight I can flatten it again. At least this material can’t tear like paper folders.

Aggretsuko Plush Charm

Who doesn’t love Retsuko? She’s become extremely popular as of late, and as the booklet points out, it’s can be really easy to relate to her sometimes when dealing with school and work (it also helps if you like metal, I enjoy it a bit myself).

This is a plush charm that was available in either form, the cutesy work Retsuko and the released death metal one. I hope I don’t get hate over this, but I actually prefer her normal cutesy appearance; but I can still be appreciative over this one too.

It’s very soft and squishy, I’m really impressed that as small as this charm is (It’s smaller than most mug in terms of height) it has a lot of perfectly stitched quality. There’s no quality issues, even the little hair tufts on the ears feel soft and silky. The ball chain is also pretty nice too.

My Melody Onigiri Maker

Whether you make your own lunch or someone else does it, or if you just want a snack, it’s nice to have a cutesy element in some shape or form to make it feel all the more special~

This comes in 4 pieces to make the perfect My Melody onigiri (rice ball), as well as drawn and written details to help make it on the packaging; although it isn’t that hard to figure out just looking at it either.

Now as much as I love rice and try to test out food-based gadgets we get, I wasn’t able to do that with this one. I didn’t have the “supplies” and with the hectic things going on, I wasn’t really doing much in the kitchen lately. But I have seen several youtube videos about items like this so I recommend going there if you want to see more.

Whether I tested this out or not, I wouldn’t have had very much to say about it. You’ve seen one rice shaper you’ve seen them all, and I have tested previous ones I got and haven’t had any problems (besides the broken one I got like two years ago that they were supposed to be replace and never did).

I love cutesy looking food, even if they can take a bit more time to make, but food always seems to taste better when it’s personally worked on; it also helps to make picky-eaters a tiny bit less-picky :P if you like eating rice and would like to try these out, you can find a variety of them on Amazon.

Amuse Pen

You can’t have a school themed box without a writing utensil of some type. So here we are, at our last item. An adorable pastel pen featuring the popular brand Amuse and it’s original characters.

It’s a bit hard to see here, but I got Alpacasso x3 which is the reason I like this brand, since I always had a soft spot for llama and alpaca- I like that they’re so popular now because I can enjoy them more frequently!

Anyway, each pen comes in it’s own themed color, with matching colored ink. It also has a wonderful and relaxing scent, it smells exactly like an eraser I got in a prior school themed box. But I still can’t identify the scent more than being a light sweet fruit with a hint of baby powder or cotton candy.

It smells really good, trust me.

The pen quality is good, a tiny bit spotty but I think that was my fault for writing on the box rather than paper. Again it’s scented, and it has pretty sky blue ink, so I’m not sure it would be test or signature necessary friendly, but it’d be perfect for everything else!

Oh, also it isn’t a gel pen or fine tip, like what I usually prefer. But you know, I still really like it :3 I don’t have too many colored ink pens (unless you buy a really expensive pen or multi-ink ones, all we normally have are black, red, dark blue, and sometimes dark green) so I get excited when I can add to my collection.

In fact I pretty much stopped buying pens and stationery items from here because I get so many from these boxes.

♥ Cutie Ranking ♥

Content - 5 out of 5. I’m a teeny-tiny bit bugged by the folder, but that can easily be fixed so I’m not going to blame the box on that. I wasn’t amazed by the items or anything, but I liked them and I love getting to add to my pens and kitchen gadgets. They’re perfect for the time of year they were released and are very practical, so I completely approve!

Quality/Price - 5 out of 5. I’ll admit on terms of price I’m not sure where the box stands this month. The quality was excellent with each and every item, and because of them all being licensed I know that would probably make them costly depending on location. The problem with that is that where I live (and I’m sure in several other states/towns) school products are very cheap when school starts, and even throughout the year. So as much as I prefer cute items to plain ones... I’m not sure I’d go out of my way to spend triple times the amount just for a couple of them when I could use the same money to buy a lot of basic items. But to be fair I don’t know the prices of these things, it’s entirely possible they aren’t as expensive as I think.

Theme: 5 out of 5. Like last months, it’s extremely obvious even without the book. Every September they do a school themed box, but I like the consistency and I’m sure the other subscribers appreciate it too.

Total Rank: 15 out of 15 Cuties. When I first started this I wasn’t too sure how I felt about this box, it kind of gave me vibes from the previous one, where I enjoyed the items but I didn’t feel any sort of inspiration. I assume it stems from often getting “schoolish“ items in my other boxes, but at the same time I liked the concept of getting one box dedicated just to them. Plus I adore practicality considering how much gets spent on these and they have been doing pretty well with that!

♥ Cutie Scale ♥

1. Sumikko Gurashi Case - Again pastels and designs, but just looking at it makes me feel happy x3

2. Amuse Pen - I love it’s pale pastels and colorful design... but the clippy part of the pen’s top that you attach it to things with kind of blocks the image a teensy bit, which is kind of annoying to me.

3. Jinbesan Folder - I love how it has two alternate designs and is so smooth and translucent. Any time I see something Jinbesan related, I really want to hug it. I feel so warm and comforted looking at it~

4. My Melody Onigiri Maker - As much as I love cute pinkness, that’s all there really is going for it.

5. Aggretsuko Plush - ...It’s probably really obvious right?

Alrighty, that will be doing it with another review :3 I hope you found it enjoyable (I’d say informative but lets be real it isn’t), and because I didn’t get my April Gacha Gacha box yet, I will be moving on to our October boxes! Starish and QN playing animal crossing

Side note: I'm probably gonna base this off pocket camp because it's the only animal crossing game I could afford. I've watched a bit of new leaf? Soo I'll try my best.

Natsuki would be the first one to get the game after seeing how cute it is. The moment he starts playing he cries over how cute every single character is. Plus the moment he sees Isabelle he probably would be like "Syo-Chan it looks just like you!" "Natsuki. I. Am. Not. A. Female. Dog." Definitely will go for the cute theme in pocket camp.

Syo would then be influenced to play after watching Natsuki play. Because of the huge number of collectable clothes and hats, Syo would actually play the game to get every hat available. Would probably go for the sporty theme in pocket camp.

Ai would play because he'll just be really fascinated by the characters. They are talking animals after all. Ai would probably stare at each character and deep inside think like "How are animals capable of talking..." Would go for natural theme in pocket camp.

Camus would probably know the game after seeing Ai stare at it without doing anything. He would probably look over and sees Cyrus and be like "Is that a horse?" "No it's an alpaca" Camus would then play the game just to see the alpaca because it reminds him of a horse but a really fluffy one. Somehow finds a way to customise his camp to look like royalty in pocket camp. (Elegant theme probably)

Otoya would probably see Syo playing the game and just downloads it out of curiousity. Instantly falls in love with the game and it's now his favourite. Loves to catch bugs in game because it reminds him of his childhood. Would definitely go for the sporty theme in pocket camp.

Reiji would probably look over at Otoya's phone and notice like Whoa there's fishing in the game! And plays the game for that reason since no one wants to fish with him. Sometimes when he doesn't play, he'll probably say something like "Why can't you guys go fishing with me like these animals in the game do?" "The main question is how do they talk?" Ranmaru and Cecil, they're probably only there because of the cat characters. Ranmaru loves cats and Cecil used to be a cat, so they'll probably check on the cat characters more than the others. Probably has their camp full of cat characters in pocket camp. Ranmaru seems like the type who would go for the cool theme and I think Cecil would go for a generic theme.

Ren was probably influenced by Ai, thanks to the times they play games together and Ai randomly asks him like "Ren, how are animals able to talk?" And Ren doesn't know how to answer Ai so he sees the game for himself. He eventually becomes fascinated with the alpaca like camus but calls it a llama. Joins Camus in the alpaca club. Probably goes for the modern theme.

Masato honestly didn't deserve to be dragged into this but Ren probably forced him to play. Masato eventually also becomes fascinated by the alpaca. Sometimes when he plays the game with Ren, he actually so happy that he calls him Ren instead of jinguji. "Whoa, Ren what is that?? It looks like a goat but with a long neck" "I don't know Masa, I think it's a llama" "No it can't be llamas can't have necks that long" His conversations with Ren are adorable because they talk non-stop about alpacas. Probably would go for a historic theme.

Tokiya was also probably forced to play thanks to Otoya, but he finds peace in the game. So he still plays it. Probably would go for the modern theme. Sometimes Otoya would disturb him while he plays the game but he doesn't mind. The game makes him relaxed enough to not be so cranky all the time.

Question Meme: The Run-on Sentence Edition

Hi! I hurt myself again yesterday. No, not in an "self-harm" kind of way but more in the usual (for me) "mountain-climbing incident" sort of way (I hate scree; I was so close to that summit) and got lots of deep bruises and lacerations for my troubles and was in a world of hurt by the time I saw a doctor, and I cracked something that isn't supposed to be cracked and it all hurts enough that I got prescribed narcotics again for a week and I really, really hate narcotics but I really, really like to be able to breathe without feeling like my lungs are being ripped to shreds, so...narcotics it is.

It might make the answers to this latest iteration of Ye Olde Question Meme rather entertaining, though. Maybe. Maybe just incoherent. Well, whatever, @nekosayuri tagged me, so it's her fault, and I'm bored and my sleep schedule's all outta whack and I haven't even turned on my Simming computer in like three days and am posting this from a non-Simming laptop, so I have nothing else to post and....yeah. So, I'm like high as a kite right now. I mean, it's not totally unusual because I live in Colorado and weed's legal here, but narcotics is a totally different and much less coherent high for me. So, like, fair warning.

I'm not tagging anyone, though. I've no idea who's done this lately...

Zodiac Sign: I don't know why I answer this because astrology is a huge crock of BS, but everyone always wants to know so...Taurus. Barely. (Birthday is April 23.)

Height: Still ~6'0"/~182cm. Yay, not shrinking yet!

Languages Spoken: Fluently? At this point, only English. I used to be pretty fluent in Italian and German, but, you know, the saying "use it or lose it" applies, and since I've not had occasion to use those languages much....Well, there we are. I could speak quite a bit of Russian at one time because I spent a chunk of years there, in the late 80s when it was the Soviet Union and shortly thereafter when things were sorta nuts there. But, again, I have lost much of what I once knew. And there are smatterings of other languages that I can speak mostly-useless bits of. I can ask where the restroom is in many languages because I've traveled a lot. :) I do speak fluent bullshit, though...

Nationality: 'Murican. And since 'Muricans are really, really into their "ancestry" for some bizarre-o reason because ‘Murican apparently isn’t good enough...Like, 95% dirty Welsh peasantry (plus some Irish and Scottish thrown in for flavor) on the paternal side and on the maternal side....Well, one of my great-grandfathers was a first cousin of the English Queen Victoria. So basically, my maternal ancestry is the very confused inbred multinational mutt that is European Aristocracy. God only knows what’s in their genes, though my particular bit of it has lots o’ German.

Favorite Fruit: Okra. It is a fruit. Look it up. Then again, much of what people call "vegetables" is, in fact, fruits, so there's that.

Favorite Scent: I've never really thought about this except when this was a question on a previous iteration of this meme that I did, and I don't remember what answer I came up with then. So I'm just gonna say...Vanilla-scented candles. Not cheap ones that just smell sickly-sweet sort-of-vanilla-y, but these ones that I buy online that smell...well...NOT sickly-sweet and like how vanilla really smells. Alternatively...snickerdoodles when they're baking. Hubby is baking me some snickerdoodles as I speak. Type. Whatever. The house smells really good. Baking bread is good, too. Before the snickerdoodles, hubby was baking the twice-weekly loaf of sourdough.

Favorite Color: Green. And/or orange. I go back and forth about which is really my favorite.

Favorite Animal: Elephants. Or hyenas. Or cats of all shapes/sizes. Or alpacas. Or llamas. Or snakes. Or spiders of all kinds. Or dragonflies. Or...Um, yeah, I'm pretty much a fan of all vertebrates and terrestrial invertebrates and some aquatic/oceanic invertebrates, too, so...take your pick.

Coffee, Tea, or Hot Chocolate? Hot chocolate all the way. I don't drink coffee because A) I think it tastes and smells disgusting, but even if that wasn't the case B) I can't have caffeine. Tea is OK. Hubby's way into herbal tea, grows/collects and dries herbs and makes his own blends and shit, and I'll drink it mostly to make him happy, but I'm not into it. I do like hot chocolate, though it's hard to find premade mixes that don’t have powdered milk in them (because I’m vegan), so I generally have to make it from scratch, so to speak, and when I do I use cashew milk as the base and I usually add either peppermint or vanilla extract for zing.

Favorite Fictional Character: Can't really pick a fave. So, have a list, probably but perhaps not really in preference order. Spock from Star Trek, who's been a fave of mine since I was 3 and was watching the original Trek in its initial run, and I announced I'd marry Spock one day. Rodney McKay from Stargate: Atlantis and Vala Mal Doran from Stargate SG-1. (Basically, if you cut up those two and glue various bits of their characters together -- and not necessarily their good bits -- you have...me. So I relate really well to both of them, so I like 'em.) Also Jack O'Neill from Stargate SG-1, but he's mostly for reasons of estrogen. (Especially if you stick 'im in dress blues. HUBBA!) Garak from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine because Cardassians Are Love. Jayne from Firefly, also for reasons of estrogen. Big, hairy, dark hair, blue eyes, solid but not too muscle-y...Yep, that's how I likes my men. And Zoe from Firefly, 'cuz OMG she's how I likes my women. HUBBA!

Dream Trip: *sigh* Still Antarctica. It's the only continent I've not been to, and I will get there before I croak, but...not yet.

Last Movie You’ve Seen: I couldn't sleep one day like a week ago, so I put on Miss Congeniality, which is one of my favorite movies because Michael Caine. When I can't sleep, I'll usually put on a really familiar movie or TV show and it lulls me to sleep, but it didn't work that time. :(

Song You’ve Had on Repeat: Englishman in New York, by Sting. I have no idea why, but it's been on repeat in my head, though I haven't actually played it lately or anything.

Favorite Candy: Not much of a sweets kind of person. I prefer salty-crunchy. I can eat a whole big bag of crisps (Like, the British ones, which are way better than American potato chips, but American ones will do) easily, but I can't even get through a whole candy bar because, ew, too sweet. That said, I do like Flake bars, but I have to go up to Canada to get 'em. Or else buy 'em online but then usually by the time I get them they're kinda smashed. Or melted. Or both. Better to go up to Canada. Where they have real chocolate and not this sickly-sweet Hershey's crap. *shudder*

Favorite Holiday: When in Canada, Canada Day is quite fun. It's like July 4th only not so...well...chest-beatingly, yahoo-y, "patriotic" 'Murican. (I really, really dislike nationalism and "patriotism" in general but especially the obnoxious 'Murican brand of it.) When in the UK, I have a fondness for Guy Fawkes Night. I guess I like fire and fireworks and things that go boom and shit, only without the "YAY AMERICA!" yelling of America's own "things that go boom" holiday. Other than that...Can't really say I'm into 'em much. They're not even "days off from work" since...Well, I've never had a "real job," and I'm pretty much retired from my unreal job these days.

Last Book You’ve Read: *cough* Does a really long and smutty and slashy Stargate: Atlantis fanfic count? I'm sad to say that, though I was a voracious reader of books when I was younger, I'm really not so much these days. Haven't been for the last decade or so, really. Not of actual books, at least. I do subscribe to and read a number of academic journals, some having to do with science and medicine and some having to do with history, but they're not books.

Favorite TV Show: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, mostly because it has Cardassians, who are all uniformly awesome, plus all the gritty political and religious goodness and stuff. Except that its last season kinda sucked and did totally WTF things with my second-favorite Cardassian. Close runner-up would be Stargate: Atlantis. Except that its last kinda season sucked, too, and did totally WTF things with McKay, so hmmm. Stargate SG-1 is good, too, except that half its team annoys the piss outta me...although this is largely made up for by the hotness that is Jack O'Neill so there's that. I like Firefly a lot but it was so short-lived that it's hard to really be a favorite because I can watch the whole thing, including the movie, in less than a day. (And believe me. I have.) I like the other Star Treks, too, especially if I'm in the mood for the "goofy soap opera in space" that is Voyager. TNG's shiny-happy Roddenberryness kinda bores the piss outta me, though it does have a few really good episodes, and the original show...Hmmm...Well, I both love and hate it. I love Spock, as I said, and I also love McCoy and all of its secondary characters. The problem is that I hate Kirk. Like, viscerally hate him. Like, I want to punch his face in every time it's on-screen. If he'd just, y'know, been eaten by a salt vampire and Spock and everyone else was OK and went off and had cool space adventures battling giant space-going amoebas and shit, I'd be totally happy and that's what fanfic's for *cough*, but since Kirk doesn't get eaten by a salt vampire...well...

Can confirm: literally every cat I have made a felted wool bed for (or a felted wool anything, which they then decided was to be a bed, for them) has freaking LOVED it. I mean, look at my sister's cats here:

Theses two haaaaaaate each other. They tolerate the other's presence on a day-to-day basis, and bicker about community items. Here, observe them politely taking turns with this crap-ass cat bed I made them that didn't felt the way I wanted it to. Determining it is a Neutral House of Safety for their toys.

I knit a felted bag about 15 years ago that one of our family cats went BONKERS over. If I left it out, she'd wind up getting inside it, rolling around, and falling asleep. She did this before I'd even finished it, with the needles still hanging off it.

Anyway, I think it's a combo of the wool (or llama, alpaca, or goat) smell, plus that all those fibers but wool especially are designed to hold onto oils & so it really holds onto the scents cats secrete & marks it as Cat Space. Plus it's ridiculously warm, and cats prefer ridiculously warm, despite being covered in fur 24/7/52.

Anyway, felted wool cat beds: always a good option for cats.

Day 2: From Those in the Ground to Those in the Stars 🏛️🌌

Let me start off by dispelling a myth that you might have regarding jet lag. People tend to believe that it only really hits you if there is a time zone change.

That. Is. Simply. Not. True.

My group had to take three (3) flights within twenty-four (24) hours, and of those twenty-four (24) hours, approximately fifteen (15) of them were flights. The remainder was layovers. Depending on the time of year, Peru can be in the same time zone as us, which is Eastern Standard Time, or one (1) hour behind us (Central Time). The time of year we went made it so it was the same time.

As someone who has insomnia and someone who has a severe amount of difficulty sleeping in a bed she doesn’t know, the night we arrived at our first hotel was GLORIOUS. I don’t remember a time when my head hit the pillow and within five (5) minutes was asleep.

So, I guess what I’m telling you is if you’re like me and want a good night sleep, taking a ton of flights might be in your best interest.

Anyway, let’s get onto the day at hand - our first official full day in Peru!

Considering the day we had prior, they chose to allow us a relatively easy day to start. There were only two things on the agenda to do as a group, and we weren’t going to do these until the mid-afternoon to allow us some sleep. Breakfast was served at the hotel, just like every other day, as you’ll come to find out, and we (technically) had a free morning. Including an opportunity to find lunch on our own. I, personally, was too tired to really do any exploring, so it worked out pretty well when our group was already all awake and ready to do something. We decided to visit the massive San Pedro market in the center of the town. This wasn’t on the schedule, but everyone was awake and ready to go, so we figured we’d just go as a group. This market is nothing like what we have at home, and sadly I don’t have any pictures from this place. But imagine a giant tent with at least two hundred (200) shops crammed next to each other, with good ranging from magnets, plush llama and alpaca models, fresh juice, and even fresh cuts of meat. There was also jewelry, figurines, clothing, and storage bags (backpacks and the like). It had everything you could need or want, both as a tourist or a local. We did not get to spend nearly as much time as we would have liked to at this place, because we did have to get to our first scheduled activity, but know that it could take nearly an entire day to get through the place. Maybe even longer.

Once we left the market, we began to walk toward our first scheduled destination. We took photos all throughout the walk, saw churches, and realized that Peru is known for tons of dogs that simply roam around. We learned that dog owners let their dogs roam around all day after breakfast, and the dogs are so well trained that they know when it’s dinner time, and they make their way home on their own. I have a cat and I would never trust her to find her way home like that. So after passing a good five (5) or six (6) dogs, we made it to our first stop, give or take fifteen (15) walking minutes from our hotel.

This stop was the Regional History Museum, and it is a collection of ceramics, paintings, metals, and textiles that teach visitors about paleontological and archaeological history of the pre-Hispanic era. It also has goods from the colonial era. We were not allowed to take pictures in there, so what you see below is all I could get a picture of. This museum was absolutely beautiful, and I apologize for making you take my word for it. It was a nice way to ease someone into the history of the Incas without overwhelming them with information, plus it’s just really pretty and relaxing to walk through the museum.

After our tour of the museum, we instantly made our way to our third and final event of the day, which would take us to the end of the day. We made our way back to the town square and waited for a van to pick us up. We were scheduled to have a tour of the local planetarium, and learn about how the Incas used the stars in their everyday lives. As you can guess based on the other information presented on this site, this was the location that inspired me the most. I have always loved space, and as soon as I knew we were scheduled to go to a planetarium, I was extremely excited.

As opposed to restating everything we did there, I will offer a bulleted list. After the bulleted list, should you be more intrigued to continue reading, I highly suggest you visit the portion of the website dedicated to the planetarium and what it taught us. Click here to do so.

First, we started with a demonstration in the dome of the planetarium, where we viewed an astronomical show.

Second, we went to a lecture-style room and were told the history of the astronomy of Cusco, the city, in that it is shaped like a Puma.

Third, we went outside and gazed up at the stars (given that it was very cloudy) through extremely powerful telescopes.

Finally, we had a a chance to purchase some things from the gift shop.

I think it goes without saying that one can never get tired of watching a show in a planetarium dome. It is a magnificent experience; one such that it does not even feel like you are learning things. However, if asked, I could probably tell you most of what we learned that night, despite it being already a long time since that night. This, like the museum, was another nice way to be introduced to some Inca history without being overwhelmed. The presenter gave us background in astronomy before diving into the Inca astronomy so we could make sense of some vocabulary used.

After the planetarium, we returned back to the plaza we were picked up at, and we were given the choice to return to the hotel, or stay in the plaza if you wanted a late dinner. I chose to go back to hotel and shower and lay down so I could rest my body more, because I knew that the day we had coming was one that I needed to be as prepared for as possible.

1. Top 5 fictional characters of ALL TIME?

You sure started off with a hard question. It’s so hard for me to pick just 5 fictional characters considering i obsess over just about everything. Here we goooo.

Jon Snow: He is by far the best character of all time. Considering how much I love Game of Thrones this one probably isn't a shocker to the people who know me. Jon goes through a lot of pain and suffering through the show and it shows when he is trying to protect something he truly believes in. Besides his good looks and his loyalty, something about him is inviting and before you know it you are cheering on the little bastard from the north... Or... Aegon, yah know whoever he is.

Dean Winchester: Alright so this one is probably not a shocker either, but Supernatural was the first show I ever fangirled about seriously and Dean was the first fictional character I really fell in love with. His character development is seriously top tier. What I really love about him is that he’s not afraid to tell people how it is. He speaks his mind and that is one quality I wish I had myself. When he’s hurting he tries to push everyone away and play it off like it doesn't matter but deep down he genuinely cares about everyone. and plus he’s got a badass demeanor is what originally made me love him.

Katherine Pierce: In The Vampire Diaries, Katherine was always hated by every character in the show and fans of the show. But to me, Katherine showed some courageous qualities that made her interesting to me. She's evil as fuck, but honestly thats what is so good about her. She doesn't take anyones shit, she is almost always betraying someone, but yet everyone in the show would keep working with her or trust her. She caused a lot of issues, but it made the show fun to watch. Plus there were moments where she would do the right thing and you couldn't help but relate to her.

Spike: I have gone on and on about this character in the past. Spike is such a damaged soul, but just like I mentioned before about Katherine, His character benefits from it. As the show goes on his character goes though alot of development and I think the reason why I loved his character so much was due to his raw emotion. Spike mentions that he is love’s bitch etc. He knows that he has all these feelings but yet as a vampire he shouldn't feel this. Despite the fact that Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a show about vampires, i related to his character more than any others.

Wonder Woman: Considering that it was the first successful solo female superhero movie should be enough, but Diana is legit amazing. She doesn't back down from anything, she doesn't let people tell her she cant do something. Besides her kickass costume, her passion and curiosity for humans is what really shines through. Sure she does look badass and she's strong too, but her true power comes from her heart. Which speaks to me on another fucking level.

2. If you could have literally any animal as a pet, what would you choose?

Any pet? Hm, Like, if I could own a Lion and not have it rip my face off that would be so fucking cool. Imagine cuddling with a lion. Like... If it was the sweetest Lion and you could feed it, play with it. Omg. How much fun. I love exotic animals.

3. Given the opportunity, what musical artist would you want to sing/dance on stage with?

The fucking goddess herself. DEMI LOVATO. I love her so much and being able to sing the same songs that have touched my heart over these years, on stage, with her?! Omg what a fucking privilage that would be.

4. What is the most ridiculous holiday you can think of (whether already in existence or not)?

NATIONAL FRIED CHICKEN DAY. IM SORRY BUT CAN WE NOT?

5. What do you feel is the most overrated piece of technology?

Okay this is actually hard for me, considering I love technology. I’d have to say the Apple Watch. I know I know, you may be saying “But Morgan, dont you have an Apple Watch?” Yeah I do, I spent $300 on it and barely use it.

6. What are a few features your dream house would have?

Honestly? I never really thought about the house I would own. I suppose having a beautiful house would be ideal right? Id seriously like a working 2 door garage.... So I wouldn't have to keep my car outside in the winter, plus I'm sick of brushing snow off my car...

7. When you think of yourself, what color do you assosiate with yourself?

Red, I feel like I have a fiery spirit but yet sometimes I get in a little slump where all I feel is pain like flames... LOL OKAY WHAT DID I JUST SAY.

CARL?!?!?!?!?!?

9. Top Hat or Newsboy Cap?

Newsboy cap, my grandpa used to wear one everyday.

10. Mountains or forests?

Mountains intrigue me. Especially if you go hiking, some of the prettiest sights I've ever seen were from hiking up mountains.

11. How easily do you get scared (i.e., would anything relatively creepy scare you, would you have to watch some pretty heavy stuff to get nightmares, or something in between)?

I honestly used to be so hard to scare. I used to go see scary movies with my friends all the time back in the day, but now I seem to get scared easier. I’ve gone through haunted houses and thought I would pass out because I wasn't sure what would happen. I suppose that is because I’m not in control of what will happen.

I do like to watch Ghost Adventures and anything that falls along those lines. After watching the show I always have a weird feeling. I tend to look over my shoulder more or out of the corner of my eye, thinking I see some shit. Then that feeling goes away like a day later. IM FUCKING WEIRD I KNOW.
