Trivial BG Information that has no actual bearing on the story but I find interesting part 1

I bet a lof you guys (well, some of you) are wondering why I made the Ninja's skin tones what I did, and that's because Ninjago is basically post-apocalyptic Earth so all the humans are ACTUAL humans.

The Ninja do have real-world ethnicities that I assigned them as in my AU (they are canonically yellow LEGO people I can interpret them in any ethnicity as I damn well please) but they're not really important. Just some visual interpretation, and some characters are bilingual in ways that make sense for how they're written.

Zane - Nordic/Middle Eastern (yeah, I know the second one is unexpected but he's based off Dr Julien's actual human child who died, and their mother was of Middle Eastern descent, and Zane's human identity is that of that dead child's nephew)

Kai and Nya - Latino/Filipino (I thought they fit with their Elements. I think of fire, I think spicy food. I think spicy food, I think Mexico. So Master of Fire = Latino. Plus Kai canonically speaks some Spanish so that also influenced my decision. The Philippines are islands, which are surrounded by water, so that made sense to me)

Cole - Indian/Native American (Cole reminds me of Harry Potter and there's a popular headcanon that Harry's of Indian descent, so I also made Cole Indian. The Native American I kept from the time I based his grandma on one of my friends from school, who is also Native American like me)

Jay - French/English (yeah I couldn't really give him anything super interesting or different like I did the others. Jay is the odd one out by being the only one not super out there)

Garmadon and Wu - Russian/German (I got a LOT of hate for this decision within the Ninjago fandom. Wu is canonically blond, dammit, and do either of them actually LOOK like the clearly Asian-coded background characters? No, so shut the fuck up and let me write my fanfiction. Goddamnit, NYA looks more Asian than they do.)

Misako - Japanese/Irish (obvious Japanese-sounding name? Check. Red hair? Check. Plain and simple.)

Lloyd should be obvious from the above choices.

Dareth I'm pretty sure is at least of Italian/Jewish descent from his Brooklyn accent (his ancestors HAVE to be from New York) while I'm gonna keep quiet on Ronin for a bit. He's a surprise character.

Now, Cyrus I actually made Afro-Latino (Like Luz from TOH), but because of how washed out his coloration is (which ties into another future plot thread) it's not obvious. He's actually pretty greyscale compared to all the more colorful characters around him. Even his clothes are desaturated.

twelve. my very first one was a terrible merge between pandora hearts and dante's inferno, if i remember correctly.

4. definitely angst (and i love post-apocalyptic stories, but i'm yet to include the genre in a fanfiction, i've mostly done so in my original work).

5. i don’t have many, so i’m not sure. but she will talk like a friend (she will kiss like a man) has a special place in my heart (and i really need to continue it!).

6. for those i’ve posted on ao3, maybe my first one? it’s a good omens fic i translated (badly) from italian, it’s very trope-y and not really my thing anymore. 

7. i write whenever the need to strikes, so i’m almost constantly scribbling. but when it comes to writing from start to end, it’s mostly at night (might be ‘cause it’s the time of day i have less to do).

8. a lot of things! most of it comes from music, some from my own state of being or random things i've experienced. plus, books or poetry. sometimes, as i write, i keep a few books close for inspiration (these days, it’s mostly T.S. Eliot's the wasteland, Richard Siken's crush, Beppe Fenoglio's a private affair; plus, and I'm mentioning it mostly since it directly impacted take the noose of, wrap it tight, 4.48 psychosis by Sarah Kane).

9. part xii, the one about medications, was done through a lot of research on topics i’m wholly unfamiliar with, so it was interesting, and quite fun (plus, reading Sarah Kane at night while listening to Ethel Cain which was. something). plus, the last part! i think it’s really representative of the style i’m going for.

12. I go through phases of concentrating on a single character, and at the moment it's Leonardo from TMNT (who would've thought). other characters have been Izzy Hands from our flag means death, Jesse from breaking bad, and Spadino from that shitshow (affectionate) that was Suburra. 

13. i tend to avoid the issue by. not writing them, i guess. but at the moment, maybe Donatello from TMNT. i like him a lot, but i still haven’t figured out how to write him.

14. all the titles come from Norma Jeane baker of Troy by Anne Carson! i really like that book, and it has some chapters focused on explaining a few ancient greek words, while still tying the explanation to the myth of Helen of Troy.

16. it’s actually very much inspired by a concept i’m exploring in an original novel of mine, which follows, among other things, the relationship between the protagonist and his aging father, gone mad after experiencing the death of three of his kids in a war. the novel itself is inspired by the last ronin so i guess the cycle is complete.

17. “the last thing Leo remembers was taking the shovel from Raph’s unsteady hands and digging a grave deep enough to bury a secret - their arms brushed, in passing, and it stung.”

(the WIP in question is, by the way, inspired by your incredible i see things that nobody else sees, that i just adore  too much for my own good).

20. not really, but there are a few things i would've changed in execution.

21. i’m pretty much in awe at a lot of people whose works i’ve read on ao3 (or other places), there’s just so much creativity and sheer talent. oh, and there’s this writer i really admire that writes an incredible range of styles and characters, consistently creating amazing stories, and whose writing has impacted me and my own work a lot. plus, she’s very kind and sends nice asks and, oh, look! it’s you!

23. i listen to music, generally the same song, on repeat, for hours.

24. not my favorite thing. i’m alright with making them not very explicit, otherwise i kind of cringe. not sure why.

25. i don’t think so, but i might if i keep up with the angst (i will).

26. the whole concept was very hard to tackle, because i wanted it to be very raw but not misrepresent the issue. other than that, maybe the final line. it’s just a handful of words, but i rewrote it many times before i got it right.

27. a go with the flow guy! i start with a concept, with a very minimal outline, and than just go until it feels done.

28. i wish i’d been capable of not attaching my stories’ worth to how many hits or kudos they get from the start. obviously i’m glad whenever a story of mine gets attention, but i want to learn to write for myself, mostly, not only to feel rewarded. but i’m getting better at this.

29. not sure, maybe παλλακή? but i do understand it’s based on a concept not many are comfortable reading about. plus, maybe my Suburra fics, but i probably can’t expect much since they are from an almost dead fandom and in italian (and quite untranslatable, since the dialogues are in Rome’s dialect).

33. first things that comes to my mind are some comments i’ve gotten on got a good look and measured my answer. many people told me it made them feel seen at a very visceral level, and, i don’t know, it moved me a lot. 

35. i don’t really talk about my story ideas to people. my cats know all about them, though.

36. i have a few, but for now it’s mostly ideas -but i really wanna try writing something about across the spiderverse.

37. there’s a few fics i’ve improvised (both by writing and recording) with a friend of mine -they were a messy mix of disney characters and tropes. one of those predicted the Queen’s death. funny times.

38. never thought of it, so i don’t have a specific person in mind, but i’d be very interested in trying! i’ve done a collab only once with an irl friend, and i’m definitely open to do one again.

40. a couple of my irl friends do, but they haven’t read anything.

41. i have this pre-canon fic about Eddie Munson (from stranger things) that i’ve been meaning to complete for a while, and i love working on it. very coming-of-age, smalltown queer boy-ish. i hope i’ll finally get around to finish it.

42. a whole ass fixation on Ethel Cain’s music, particularly Family Tree and Inbred. i listen to those two a lot while writing, in general.

44. not from a fic but: “this room’s a narrow place. everyone is talking.”

45. i have many words to say, and i love saying them. not much more, i think.

46. the sequels are, in fact, in the making! (i hope). no spoilers, but it’s a few missing moments from the first two stories and a bit of development on Leo’s state (from very bad to normal bad, i guess).

47. so, so Leo! you’re, as usual, very correct. plus, by mentioning Ptolemea, you’ve kickstarted a whole inspiration process in my brain, and i’m definitely writing something about it. not sure about the specifics, but i’m thinking: some feral behavior; Leo being his usual mother/widow self; someone’s getting eaten alive.

48. is angst a trope? if so, angst. 

49. a mildly explicit Inuyasha fic that involved stalking and divinity. read it on my mom’s phone at a family dinner at about eleven.

Calamity is a collection of creative works about humans living in a world recreated by deities after the old world was destroyed.

Gold Towns is the story of Prosper and his two friends, Billy (a girl) and Ruben (a boy), as they search for Prosper’s sister, Goldie, and the Golden Land she was searching for.

Completed Fanfics

forgetting the coin for the ferryman is probably the piece I’m most proud of. as said, it’s a lego ninjago fic about Morro. Lloyd resurrects him, but he can’t stay with the ninja, due to them hating each other, so Wu calls Cyrus Borg to take him in. Cyrus grows attached to the sad teenager, and does his best to take care of him – but the Cursed Realm is calling, and Lloyd’s attempt to give Morro a second chance doesn’t go as planned. PLEASE heed the content warnings!

A Piece of Rebellion was the first novel I completed, about a lego movie AU where Good Cop and Bad Cop find the Piece of Resistance instead of Emmet. the cops become the Special, and their loyalty to Lord Business is tested.

Better Than They Were is a lego ninjago movieverse oneshot I wrote about Garmadon and Koko when they visit Garmadon’s parents’ house with a baby Lloyd. I’m pretty proud of it, so I’m linking it here.

Swamp Creature is a lego ninjago fic where a baby calls Krux a cuck. that’s all you need to know.

other completed fics include: in the lego fandom, a commissioned fic where I ship cyrus borg with a trans lady acronix, a stream-of-consciousness lego movie fic about Finn and the Man Upstairs, a lego ninjago movie fic about Lloyd meeting his friends, and a short Morro fic I wrote because I was sad; in the pokémon fandom, we have a quick Tabitha/Maxie fic where Maxie has a panic attack; and in the steven universe fandom, we have a quick amedot fic where Amethyst and Peridot have a sleepover.

bridging the gap is the sequel to forgetting the coin, set on the Day of the Departed, and featuring the coinverse version of canon events. it should be pretty close to being done? a few more chapters, I hope.

Green Ninja is another lego movie AU where Heidi and Brett Cop (GCBC’s parents) find a young boy called Lloyd alone on the street. when they try to help him, they find themselves pulled into the Master Builder underground, and realize that their sons’ job with President Business is not what it seemed.

Dilara is a lego ninjago fic where Nya, tormented by dreams where she’s Nadakhan’s dead girlfriend, leaves the ninja to stop these dreams and find out what she’s been wondering all this time: who was Dilara?

planting the pomegranate seeds is a lego ninjago crossover between me & my bro’s AUs; coinverse & illusionist. a young Ronin tries to go to the Cursed Realm to find his brother and finds himself in an alternate universe with someone who looks, sounds, and acts like his brother – but Wu told him Morro was dead, and this Morro is alive.

Gnosia Stella Coronae is a pokémon fic with a latin title that means nothing. Rebecca is a member of Team Magma, and while the team is struggling to hold itself together after the Groudon and Kyogre incident, she’s kidnapped by Giratina for reasons beyond her understanding; all she wants is for her and the people she cares about to make it out alive.

Other WIPS include: in the steven universe fandom, an outdated peridot redemption au fic and a ronlars ghostbusters crossover; in the lego fandom, a sequel to Piece of Rebellion set after the events of the lego batman movie, and a lego ninjago movie au where Garmadon is a good dad.

As I stated earlier, with my husband losing his job, I have to come up with another way to help bring in income until he is back to work again and we can get back on track.  I know I can’t make up for all of the lost income, but I am trying to at least try for some of it.  That said, I will repost this commission post with prices and options that are more detailed in case anyone might be interested.

 I am not much on hand-drawn images ( I can barely draw a stick person, honestly).  But I can digitally create something for just about anything. Do you have an OC you want to see brought to life?  Do you want an image of another character who is a fave of yours?  I can do this.  Examples will be posted following prices to give a sample of what I can do.

Hello CS Fic Writers!

I know some of you, I don’t know a lot of you, and I am one of you. I’ve been writing fanfiction since I was a kid and have been posting them for about ten years.

In the beginning and even now, I have highs and lows as a writer. It can be a stressful hobby. And I have seen so many posts from fellow writers, people who I know are fantastic at their craft, struggling through rough patches or feeling inadequate, whether because of a particular story or just in their skills in general.

Sometimes people will love a thing you wrote and you will wonder why. You’ll think it’s terrible no matter how much people gush over it. Sometimes you will be proud as hell of a story and barely get recognition for it, making you yourself wonder if it was worth all the time and effort you put into it. You will reblog yourself over and over to try and promote your work and it still might not see solid readership. Sometimes you will write fics that someone doesn’t like, for whatever reason. It happens. Not everything you write will necessarily be received well by everyone who reads it. And, just so you know, a couple people disliking your story doesn’t make it a bad story.

But I want to be absolutely clear here: it doesn’t make you a bad writer to have a story with few notes. It doesn’t make your story awful if few people like/reblog it. I know, god do I know, that it can be disheartening and leave you feeling like you’ve somehow failed.

Which is why I have decided to create this blog: CS Fic Promotions.

I want to read your stories, the ones that you feel no one is reading. I want to read the stories you’ve put your heart and tears into, only to feel disappointed when it gets 5 notes and no reblogs, or one comment on FF.net, or a handful of kudos but no bookmarks or comments on AO3. I WANT TO READ THE STORIES THAT YOU ARE PROUD OF. And I want to share them with others so they can read them, too!

So here’s the deal: starting January 17th, I will try to post at least one lesser known fic a day with my personal review of it. I will choose these fics based off of my own personal observations, from asks/messages that I receive from writers to please promote their work, and from readers who wish to see a fic they love get more attention.

The Reverse World: Chapter 1

Author's Notes: This is extension of my Nightmare/AU fic for OkiKagu Month for 2016 from the very beginning. Implied OkiKagu relationship, but this will be more of a general genre than romance. If you can’t wait for the second chapter of this fic, go ahead and read that, changes will be made!

Extra Lesson 1: Banging Your Head Twice Doesn't Make Things Normal Again

“Huh? Where am I?” Okita opened his eyes, “This isn’t my room.” He heard snoring, following the sound to his right.

He heard a gasp behind him. “What is this? Where am I?” It was Hijikata, woke up in a shock. He was sleeping on the desk.

The loud snore continued. It was Kondo on the opposite side of the sofa.

“Kondo-san, wake up.” Okita called out to him with a lazy tone.

The older man flipped to his side, “A few more minutes.”

Okita looked at his surroundings, a small living room and workspace, and a closet.

“Is this the Odd Jobs?” Okita thinking out-loud. He examined his arms, legs and the rest of the body, as Hijikata followed suit for his own. Wearing off-duty clothes and everything else seemed fine, but still something was out of place.

“Hijikata-san, do you have any clue why we’re here?” The flaxen haired man asked.

“Beats me.” Searching for a cigarette in his sleeves with no avail. “I don’t think we’d ever spend time with those people drinking in their own home.” He opened all the drawers of the desk finding nothing. He slammed the desk with his fists in frustration. The frame behind him fell.

“Slay evil immediately.” Hijikata read picking the sign up. He hung it back on the wall. The slogan was oddly familiar to him, a quick reminder of the Odd Jobs Code he set up as the temporary president of the company.  

The two searched the Odd Jobs home for more clues. Looking through the business log, Hijikata skimmed all the names and work that the Odd Jobs have done in the past. Familiar names, but never was directly involved with them. Again, nothing out of the ordinary.

Hijikata and Okita looked at each other, agreeing they haven’t changed in appearance. They checked themselves at the mirror. It was them all right, not someone else in another person’s body, it was just their normal selves.

Kondo finally awoke, stretching, “I haven’t slept so well in a long time!”

“While you were asleep, we were trying to figure out what the hell is going on here!” Hijikata face palmed. “I need my nicotine now.” Getting impatient, he walked over to the door, putting on his sandals, all too instinctively. He just knew it was his pair.

“Maybe it is a good idea to see if the outside world has changed.” Okita suggested, slipping into his own pair of sandals.

Both exited.

“Hey, don’t leave me here!” Kondo quickly put on his own sandals to catch up with them. He reached them, staring at the sign in front of the building.

“T-This can’t be happening…” Hijikata said with a tremble in his voice.

“Odd Jobs, Roshigumi…” Okita read.

“This is just an elaborate prank!” Kondo said laughing. “I’m sure the rest if the men are in the whole thing, let’s go home and give them our laughs.”

“I’m sorry, who are you again?” Kamiyama responded.

Hijikata and Kondo bawled onto the ground, sobbing. Okita deadpanned, watching them smack their heads onto the earth.

“How can this happen to us? All of our hard work, reduced to nothing!” Kondo pounded his fist onto the ground. “This has to be some misunderstanding. Our lives are with the Shinsengumi, we are the Shinsengumi.”

“My apologies, sir. Open recruitment will be next year. We will be more than willing to take your applications early if you like. Your loyalty displayed today will not be forgotten.” Kamiyama saluted to the men.

Okita sighed in annoyance, “I’m not going through this again.” He stepped a little closer to the solider, face-to-face “Where are your superiors? We want to talk to them.”

Kamiyama was taken back, “They’re currently away from the compound. They will return shortly. If you are need assistance with anything else, please notify the police. We are unable to help you under these circumstances. As we are a special police force for the Bakufu.”

“You’re useless as usual.” Okita crossed his arms.

“I-I beg your pardon?” Kamiyama raised his voice to the younger man.

“Hah? You should rethink your tone of voice before you speak to me again.” It was instinct for him to go on full captain mode on him, the sadistic look in his eyes made the man tremble and sweat. Okita narrowed his eyes at him, before turning away, “Tch, this is a waste of time.”

Okita dragged Kondo and Hijikata away from the home and work place they once knew.

Kondo wiped away his tears, as Hijikata calmed down with a cigarette in his mouth walking along side Okita to Odd Jobs.

“What are we supposed to do now?” Okita asked.

“I suppose we continue on as the members of the…Odd Jobs.” Hijikata cringed on the last part. “Until we figure out this mess.”

“We haven’t seen the original Odd Jobs members yet. Perhaps they’re stuck in our situation as well. We should look for them. They might have a clue to what’s going on.”

“It’s just a dream. It’s just a dream. It’s just a dream.” Kondo whacked his head against a pillar; his head was already bloody from the first few bangs.

“What the hell are you doing? Bashing your head is just going to give you a concussion!” Hijikata yelled at the man.

“I just want to home to lay on Otae-san’s lap. This is getting too much for me.” Kondo confessed.

“It’s only been a few hours! Plus that’s just a fantasy, you were nowhere at that level of comfort with her even at home!”

They heard heavy footsteps resound.

It felt like time slowed down upon the presence of these figures passing by.

They felt their heart beat faster as they felt them walk closer.

A young woman with gorgeous vermillion hair tossed her hair to the side as the gold tassel rang from her hair ornament. She wore a form fitting black and gold Shinsengumi uniform, similar to a certain former Mimawarigumi vice-captain, with a purple parasol above her head, carrying a sword to her side.

Next to her, a young man with a strong confident aura with black hair in a medium cut in a modified Shinsengumi uniform, a long coat, double breasted lapel, sleeves rolled up to his elbows, wearing arm protectors, and glasses strolled along with her carrying two swords on his hip.

“Hey, you’re walking too fast.” A man with silver-permed hair said.

The two stopped turning back, waiting for him.

He was more lax than the other two. He was in a normal Shinsengumi commander’s uniform, jacket tied to his waist and his sleeves rolled up with a real sword on his left.

Hijikata, Kondo, and Okita looked at the original Odd Job members in shock as they walked on by.

“N-No way…” Three said in unison.

Notes: You might remember when Gintoki and Toshirou switched bodies for the Soul Switch Arc, that Toshi recreated order for the Odd Jobs with his own Code for them to follow. The saying, “Slay evil immediately” is a real slogan that the real Shinsengumi used during that time and has been referenced in Gintama, and other historical samurai fiction such as Rurouni Kenshin.

The Roshigumi (浪士組, meaning "the ronin squad"), is the original group name before finalizing members of became Shinsengumi. Gintama universe is different, where Matsudaira and Isaburo, created a police force in Edo to counteract the growing problem of the revived Jouishishi called the Roushigumi. The Roushigumi had brought down crime and became popular over the next few days until it was decided that they would be in charge of protecting the Hitotsubashi head and his son Hitotsubashi Nobu. Unbeknownst to them, they were meant to be the scapegoats of the father and son's assassination conducted by Tokugawa Sada and carried out by the Tenshouin Naraku. Isaburo created a plan that not only saved the father and son, but also helped increased the standing of the Roushigumi. This lead to the Roushigumi becoming an official police force and Kondo changing their name to the Shinsengumi. [Wikipedia and Gintama Wikia]

Kamiyama is a squad member the First Division of the Shinsengumi. Remember Okita stabbed his ass with a short sword? Yeah, that’s him.

Also, just to make the reading more enjoyable, listen to the Gintama Soundtrack OST 2 – Track 06 -  Tabemono no Suki Kirai Ooi Nin wa Ningen no Suki Kirai mo Ooi when they see The Odd Jobs Trio in Shinsengumi uniforms. :D

This story got very complicated as I did more research and did an outline. It seems like it’ll be more than 20 chapters long (lol…). It feels almost a re-write of the entire series, which was not my intention, but for flow and I’ll see how much patience I have. And not everything will he historically accurate nor as canon as Gintama. Give me some leeway here. Oh, I just realized the notes ended up taking more space than the actual story…
