Name: Greggor Handson Party: The Bomb Squad Relationship to party: "Healer"

What makes them the best NPC: Every party need a healer. If you don’t have one, you need one. And if you are on a budget, Greggor Handson can be yours! Greggor was exiled from polite society and lives in an abandoned castle, but his rates are low low low and his survival rates are high high high! Better yet, he wont ask you any questions! Are your burn marks related to the explosion at the Duke’s palace? Does your description match a group wanted by the law? Greggor doesn’t care! Greggor just wants the opportunity to work on your body and maaaybe make an improvement here or there. Don’t worry! All new eyes have dark vision and the risk of infection is minimal.

Greggor prides himself not only in the quality of his work, but also his service. His appearance IS off putting, there is absolutely NO getting around it. But be assured all alterations to his body were made by Greggor himself. That he is somehow still alive is a testament to his abilities. Could a “sane” but only moderately talented healer make such radical modifications and survive? No! As Greggor himself would say, when given the choice between sanity and ability, “thanity is grothely overethtimated, theheheh”. His contagious enthusiasm for his work and frank bedside manner is what sets him apart. As Greggor would say, “I gif mythelf four thumbth up! Any more ith medically unnethethary – and I thould know! I’m a doctor.”

Character 2

Name: Mercurial Party: The Fosters Relationship to party: Friend, ally, strategist, arcane scientist

What makes them the best NPC: Mercurial is a drow divination wizard who loves his girlfriend and studying magic very much. He’s so incredibly anxious and semi-unintentionally goofy at all times, but he ultimately has a steel will and the determination to back it. His girlfriend and he helped lead a drow rebellion against the high elven monarchists, and they’re both currently elbows-deep in helping to set up a more equitable but still stable government to replace the emperor. He’s a skilled diviner and she’s an incredible tactician, so they’re incredible strategists.

He is both so incredibly cool and just some guy. He'll do just about anything you ask. Once, a PC told him to go get "as many lemons as [he could]" and he brought back hundreds. Every time we drop in on him, he ends up nervously making like, French toast or bruschetta or something. He’s also an incredibly competent wizard who is going for his arcane PhD. He got into biochemistry when one of our PCs (an old friend of his and his girlfriend’s) asked him to do some blood analyses. When he realized one of the party NPCs's blood would confirm a hypothesis he had but she wouldn’t give it to him, he (for the first time) used his unassuming and nervous demeanor to trick her into letting her guard down enough that he could stab, grab, and run like hell away with the blood. He talks like Eeyore. I love him so much.

IT’S KIND OF IMPOSSIBLE TO GET INTO THE SHIPS WITHOUT ALSO GETTING INTO THE COMMUNITIES THAT SURROUND THEM GIVEN THE PRESENTATION OF THE CONTENT GENERATED IS CREATED BY AND CATERS TO THESE COMMUNITIES THEMSELVES, AND ARE INEVITABLY A REFLECTION OF HOW THEY VIEW THESE CHARACTERS AND THE CANON SURROUNDING THEM. MY PREEMPTIVE REQUEST THAT EVERYONE PLEASE BE COOL STILL STANDS HERE, THANK YOU

Clo/ud// X Ti//fa: This is an A+ with a BUT attached to it – as with any ship, there is good content for it and bad content for it, and C///lo/t//i mostly just has bad content. My problem with said content is that it is, for lack of a better term, Aggressively Heterosexual. Like, the whole drive behind the ship in canon is, “He’s an anxiety-riddled disaster with massive validation issues and has only vaguely heard of social skills in a book he read once! She feels personally responsible for everyone else’s suffering in an effort to compensate for her own massive survivor’s guilt! Together, they’re codependent! (Coming this fall!)” And like… why would you cut those parts out those are the whole meat of your ship as is the fun part of them getting to go through the ugly process of working through it all, what are you DOING. Add to that the tendency to throw in that stupid, awful Marlene-is-their-child-now retcon to make their family extra nuclear and you unfortunately get like zero percent of people actually genuinely interested in their actual dynamic. What is even the POINT of having a disaster battle couple if you’re gonna white picket fence them both? A waste. Ironically, I avoid most C//lo/ti content out of habit for this exact reason. Any and all Cloud/good healthy environment with Avalanche content is almost guaranteed to be good, but C/lo///ti’s honestly a crapshoop and I never really bother anymore. 

Cl/////ou/d X A//er/////is: Alright let’s get the hard one out of the way. If it weren’t for the broader context of the work it’d probably be a B or an A, but as it stands, given what Certain People are doing with the ship in question and the way those attitudes blow back onto every single other aspect of the story to the point where both it and the characters are utterly unrecognisable all in the name of another Aggressively Heterosexual presentation of a dumb martyr romance, it gets an F. What can I say, sometimes a community poisons a ship and there’s just nothing you can do. IF I magically ignore that community it’s an A but loses points for me just because while I love their characters and their dynamic, she’s dead, so actually maintaining the romance requires speculation into what their romance could have developed into, and deliberately, voluntarily speculating about fictional romances is not my idea of a fun afternoon. 

Aer////is/ X Z/ac///k: D. Mostly because we just don’t see any of it, so their relationship is kind of whatever you want it to be. Automatic fucking F for all of their content following Crisis Core, given, as with C////le///r/ith it warps her character into a love interest and Absolutely Nothing Else to the extent that everything she does in live she does in service to her love interest, including fucking wearing pink are you shitting me Square. Bad. Garbage. I’m in the process of personally reclaiming this, but as I will be creating this relationship from more or less wholecloth I don’t expect it to be something Z///e/r///ith fans in particular will enjoy. This is my ship now and I give it a B because the only person that can be trusted to handle it properly is me apparently, neener neener I’m taking my toys and going home. 

…So I guess I don’t really like any of these now that I think about it, and they’re all kind of ruined for me anyway in one way or another. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯Whoops!
