You can color wool like you can most natural fabrics. Once the dye is set, the color retains its vibrancy for a considerable time. It absorbs color effectively.
However, animal fibers like wool require dyes with a low pH value, in contrast to cellulose-based plant fibers. For the dye to adhere to the fiber, it must also be heat-set.
Wool is a protein fiber, a term for any protein-based fiber made by an animal or an insect, such as hair or fur. We use the wool from sheep, llamas, and goats, to make cloth, thread, and yarn. 
Things to keep in mind when dyeing wool 
When dyeing wool such as rubco wool, felting and shrinkage are the two main things to watch out for. Wool is temperature-sensitive; therefore, if the dye bath's temperature changes abruptly, the wool may contract.
The wool can also shrink or be felt when subjected to excessive churning or agitation. Wool fibers begin to tear and join with fibers nearby when they are felt, which alters the fabric's texture. Felting is not reversible, even though felted wool is a dense, warm fabric with various applications.
When dying wool, you should also be aware of the animal and breed from which the fiber originated and whether the fabric has been treated or chemically altered. Because the producer chemically changed or coated the fibers to prevent felting, superwash wools can withstand more heat and agitation. On sheep wool, this occurs more frequently than on other types.
