"Sestriere, m. 2035" The highest municipality in Italy ‎The meaning of the toponym Sestriere is not yet certain. Some want to go back to the medieval toponym "ad petram sextarium or sextera" with reference to a Roman era stone existing on the hill itself, although recent studies claim that the way to the pass was not included among the most important roads of the Roman period and therefore could not be equipped.
