*tosses a pillow at you*
break time! 😌
see any neat birds lately? (feel free to infodump!)
I was thinking about it again so thank you 😂
... i dont think I mentioned the Pin Tailed Whydah story from recently? Or maybe I did but I trying to find an escaped dog that didnt have a collar its home with my fiance while waiting for a concert (got hella flea bit all over and it took an hour plus) and like literally 2 minutes before the owner came running up, a Pintailed Whydah male (not fully in mating plumage so its tail wasnt grown out to its iconic length) just flew down in front of me and drank water for like 2 minutes and flew off as the owner came up
And thats cool and all until you consider that
1) I had been hoping to see a Pintailed Whydah ever since I started birding cause they ARE in all the locations I bird at, but between three locations selected hoping for one and just two plus years of active birding, I had never seen one
2) Pintailed Whydahs are unironically probably in my Top 20 Bird species and one of the longest term favorite birds since I remember learning about it when we were like eight and Falling In Love with them

August 27, 2017 - Pin-tailed Whydah, Pintail Widowbird, King's Whydah, King of Six, or Pied Widowbird (Vidua macroura)
Found in much of sub-Saharan Africa, these whydahs have been introduced to parts of the Caribbean and possibly some parts of the United States. They eat small grass seeds and insects, such as flying termites. Nest parasites, they do not form monogamous pairs or build their own nests. Males perform display flights for females, hovering in the air while singing, then breeding with several females. Females also breed with multiple males and lay their eggs in the nests of several other species of birds, mostly estrildid finches. A female may lay more than 20 eggs in a single breeding season.

Sky Ballet Performance for a photographer by a Pintailed Whydah. (135mm lens; no cropping) In bird photography nothing is more challenging than picturing close-ups of erratic flying small birds.
