<Null> {Mal Du Pays} [Loop] (Siffrin)
[It's still raining.]
[You've stopped at the fork in the path, those two strangers just a few feet ahead of you. One tall, with dark skin, lightless hair and a stoic face. They were standing under the tree reading something. The other was shorter, with dark hair. He was sitting down, eyes closed with a smile on his face. Both had bonded earings to eachother.]
[Why were you filled with dread?]
"Loop?" [Mirabelle leans close to you.] "Do you think. . ?"
"Maybe." [You tug at the rim of your cloak.] "You start the talking."
"O-okay!" [Mirabelle took a deep breath, and stepped forward. You followed behind her.] "Uhm, excuse me?"
[The taller one looked up from the book. A slight, genuine smile on her face. They waved.] "Ah, hello! May I help you?"
[Mirabelle cleared her throat, then continued.] "W-well, there's been something going on at the homestead a little ways back, and, we wanted to check in! Make sure everything's okay, uhm. ."
[The tall one nodded.] "I understand. We're both just fine. Thank you."
"O-oh, well-"
[Okay, you needed to step in.] "We wanted to ask you a few questions if that's alright."
[They nod again.] "Of course, My name is Merlan, and this is Perci, forgive him, he gets lost in thought."
"That's okay! U-uhm, I'm Mirabelle, it's good to meet you."
"Siffrin, it's a pleasure~"
[Merlan raised an eyebrow.] "Ah, Saviors? Oh forgive me." [They leaned down to their partner and shook him.]
[Perci yawned, and stretched, and opened his eyes to look at you. Directly at you with a little, sly smile.] "Company? I just closed my eyes for a moment!"
"N-no it's okay! No need to worry about it!" [Mirabelle reassured.]
"Ah thank you, Lady Mirabelle. So, what can I do for you." [He seemed, charming.]
[You smell something, it was hard to tell because of the rain.]
[Mirabelle started talking.] "Okay, well, uhm, there's been a very, dangerous sadness in the area! So, so I wanted, to, to-"
[You cut her off.] "-To make sure that it wasn't going after fellow travelers. You two haven't seen anything like that, have you?"
"I'm not sure, have we?" [Perci turned to his bonded.]
"I've seen glimpses of it." [They were tapping their foot.] "A dangerous thing, to see a bonded sadness even after the Kings defeat is, curious."
[Bonded sadness? Was that like that pair of strong sadness on the second floor of the house? You keep smiling.] "And there's not been anything else strange?"
[Merlon shook his head.] "Nothing, nothing. Apart from randomly meeting the Saviors of Vaugarde! How'd you beat him, by the way?"
[Mirabelle held her hands close.] "I, reflected his freezing spell back at him, and-"
"Oh no no no! I know that! I mean more, how you got to him. That house full of sadness and traps. One wrong move and it's all over, so, well, how?"
". . . Uhm, luck?" [She responds. Yes, luck. Luck and not the time loops you were stuck in for hundreds or thousands of loops.]
[Perci's eyes are digging deeper into you. Why was he so intense?] "Must have been some wild luck. If the King was strong enough to freeze time. . ."
"An impossibility." [Merlon finishes. They were back to reading, writing, in a book.] "Time cannot be crafted without dying. Unless you had outside assistance."
[Like a wish.]
"It, it wasn't easy, at all. . ." [Mirabelle looked away.]
[Three floors of complex mazes and keys and traps that you had long, long, long ago memorized. It was a hell.]
<Be on guard.>
[HOW long have you- ugh, nevermind! You shrug, still smiling.] "Well, if you're sure you two haven't seen anything. . ."
"Positive!" [Perci is still smiling.] "Honestly we should be going, if a sadness is nearby."
"O-okay, well, we'll leave you too it, then!" [She glances at you, you nod.]
"It's wonderful to meet you both, take care Merlon, Perci~" <You turn to walk back, and wave. You were excited to get out of here, you didn't like this.>
"Goodbye Saiviors." [Says Merlon.]
"Hope we see you again, Mirabelle, Loop!" [Says Perci.]
<You stop.>
[You turn around, still smiling, looking right at the two of them.] ". . . Sorry?"
"I said. . . Goodbye, hope we see you again?" <Perci respond. Merlon quietly kicks him in the shin. They exchange a look.> ". . . . Mirabelle, and. . ."
"Siffrin." [Merlon interupts.]
"Siffrin! Ah yes right, hope to see you again-"
"No." <You smile wider, that kind of smile.> "Drop the act."
". . . Act?" [Perci says. Nice acting.]
"You said Loop. That's not my name. In fact, no-one knows that name." <You step forward.> "Why are you taking a rest here?"
"Well, because I was tired-"
"Because mind craft has a range limit." <You interrupt.> "Don't try fooling me, Perci, when it comes to acting I am of the best."
<There is a cold, tense silence. The rain giving the most dramatic of backdrops. Perci stands.>
". . . Bravo." <He claps.> "Truly, bravo."
<At this point, Mirabelle is standing by you. Hand on her sword.> "You two were behind this?"
<He bowed> "Forgive the misdirection, watching from the sidelines is much better for gaining information."
"What does that blinding mean!" <You were getting angry. You eye up your enemy, two swords, mind craft, how strong? Quick? What was his craft type?>
"People tend to lie, saivor. Not so much when you step back and let them open themselves up. Oh, scissors craft, by the way."
<?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!>
[?????????????????????]
"You're writing all this down, my love?" [Perci turns to his bonded.]
"Every moment." [They reply.]
"W-what?!?" [Mirabelle was getting frustrated.] "You, you're controlling our friends for information?!?"
"Of course! I'm not doing any harm, they wont notice anything different, I get to poke around their heads, and if anything bad happens I snap my fingers and it's all forgotten."
<You want to kill him.> "Did you do this to Ramos?"
"Oh Ramos? Oh they were such a mess, but they were raised by someone from a forgotten culture! I had to interview and poke around in that mind. And just left them with, a parting gift!" <He talked so casually, waving a hand.>
"They turned into a sadness!!!" <Mirabelle yelled.>
<Both were taken aback by that, and looked at each other.> ". . . Is that what happened? I felt some strange and strong emotions before the charm was broken, did they really. . ?"
"You didn't know?!?"
"No, but, that is fascinating!" <He turned to Merlon.> "Do you think we could replicate that? Someone turning into a sadness like that. . ."
"Oh I'm sure we can figure it out." <Merlon replies casually.>
"That's, that's horrible!!!" <Mirabelle exclaimed.>
"It's increddible!" <Perci turned back to you, a sparkle in his eye.> "A sadness created through strong emotions enhanced through mind craft? Aren't you just a little bit curious about it?"
"No!!!!"
"No? But isn't that what Change is all about?"
<You step interject.> "Stop talking. What do you want."
"Information!" <Perci said with a flourish.> "Lore! History! The truths hidden within the words and minds of thousands of people! Everything from the smallest story to the grandest legends! Even legends that don't want to be remembered~"
[Dont want. . Like, our home?]
<You ignore Loop.> "And so to get to it you violate a persons privacy? Their will?"
"Oh it's not like they'll notice, or remember, it's fine!" <He laughs, waving away the question.> "Besides, wouldn't you do something like that? For your home?"
". . . . . . . ." <You're reading our mind. Aren't you>
"I am! What a quick learner."
"H-huh?!?" <Mirabelle looked confused.>
[Oh if you're reading our blinding thought I'll tell you to jump off a cliff PERSONALLY!!! You BLINDING IDIOT!!!!]
<Our head isn't ready for one more voice. Get out.>
"Ahaa, very fascinating. Two voices? I thought I was going mad."
<Yes, two voices. You should be able to tell more, since you are using mind craft.>
"Oh no no no! From here I can only tell the most surface of thoughts. But just shake my hand, and-"
<Fooled you. Thanks for the information.>
[HA! HAHAHAHHAHAHA!!!!]
<You see Perci wince, then laugh, shaking his head.> "Oh tricky! I like you, Null and Loop, correct? In the body of Siffrin the nobody. Now, was that a craft? Or-"
"An identity disorder, love." <Merlon adds.> "Many types, all acting very differently, caused by trauma in childhood. Our hero has a dramatic backstory."
[Stop talking like we're FRIENDS!!!]
<You glance over at Mirabelle, she's looking confused between you and Perci.> "He's reading our minds."
"He's- no!! That's private!!" <Mirabelle exlaimed.>
"Oh! No this is fascinating!" <Perci looked like a teacher excited to explain todays lesson. You wanted to rip him apart.> "See, Lady Mirabelle, your mind is so cluttered thinking about every single possibility at once it's very hard to single out many thoughts! So full of anxiety and fear."
"But your friend, friends, here are so much different! They are having a conversation in their mind! Yes many people have an internal monolog but this is an internal debate! It's a breath of fresh air, honestly!"
<. . . . . . .>
[Disgusting, get OUT!!] "Why do you need this!! You've caused enough harm already!!!"
"Because!" <Perci waves his arms dramaticly in the rain.> "Because of that island culture! The island north of Vaugarde, it's history, it's people! They're yearning for home and I can see it. And I will deliver it to them, I will dig, and dig, and dig untill every bone, every word, every little tale is exposed for the world to see!"
[. . . . . . That. . .]
<Doesn't. . . . Seem evil. . .>
[No, it doesn't. But. . .] "But you're, you're just going to hurt people and poke in their heads for that?!? I never asked you to help with our home! How do you know others will!!"
"I asked." <Merlon says, flatly.>
<. . . .>
"I want to see the beach again. The forrest, the maze of water and winds. The darting stars whispering through the night sky, the clouds hugging the stone reaching for the lightless night. . ." <For the first time, you see some emotion on Merlons face.>
[. . . You look away.] "And you're fine with, hurting people to remember that?"
"Yes." [They reply, too quickly.]
[. . . . .]
"Haven't you see their faces, Loop?" <Perci steps forward.> "Other islanders begging for an explination for why they're like this? For their memories, names, faces? What about that man at the Inn? Polaris? What would he do to remember."
[. . . . . . . . You're done talking.]
<Agreed, you take another step, hand on your dagger..> "If you want to help islanders, stop using mind craft."
"Well, sorry, but no. It's too useful a tool." <Perci put a hand on his sword. He knows this talk is over.> "But. . . A wager? A one-on-one fight, if you win, I undo the mind craft here. I win, you let me poke around that brain of yours as much as I like."
"What?!?" <Mirabelle exlaims.> "That's rediculous! You can't just-"
"-Fine." <You interupt, drawing your dagger.>
"Loop?!?"
"Lady Mirabelle, let them fight." <Merlon comments.> "My bonded will not do any undue harm, if your rogue does the same."
"It's just a friendly match, Mirabelle dear." <Perci draws twin swords, stepping forward.>
[Yes, friendly. Very friendly. Extremely, friendly. . . Ha. Hahaha. . .]
<You're pathetic, Perci. You're a conniving snake, a crab, a bastard and betrayal to the concept of history and stories. I am going to kill you.>
<You see the corner of Perci's mouth twitch.> ". . Shall we?"
[Do we have a plan, dearest Null?]
<Yes. You rush in.>
<Speed above all. You step as fast as your feet allow you, aim low, avoid his touch, you'll win this.>
<He stabs a sword low to block your attack, and swipes with the other. You jump, dodging the blow by a hair. You swiped again now that he's exposed, but he twist around you knife, in the end you only get a small slice on the shoulder. He steps back.>
"Bleeding- Ah, my mistake for underestimating you." <Perci rolls his shoulder and gets ready to attack again.>
<You rush again, going for a strike from the left, you just need to figure out his patterns. He blocks with one sword, and slices with the other- too slow.>
[Not this AGAIN.]
<Every advantage must be used. You're mid dash, this time, you'll feint right. He's already ready to block your attack but you change course at the last second to strike his other side.>
<He blocks that as well.>
[. . . . . . . That's-]
<A fluke. Try something else, you let him come to you, running at you swords to his side. Once he's in striking distance, he swipes. You jump back in time to dodge one, but he delayed his second swing and catches you->
[You're going to kill us.]
<We will not loose this. He's rushing at you again, he delays his second swing, so block the first and jump over the second.>
<He lunges, you block the first->
[?!?!?!??!?!?!]
<He, swung with both at the same time.>
[He's CHANGING THINGS]
<Impossible, it's, it's a fluke. Rushing at you again, you, you- >
[You froze up, and got stabbed. STARS Null what are you-]
<SHUT UP!!!>
<You focus, you need to, to, to think. He's about to strike, you wait, step back from the first strike, second one comes in, catches your hand. It stings, it burns.>
"S-siffrin!!" [You hear Mirabelle exclaim. Your breathing is heavy, you were already exhausted from looping and THIS ISN'T HELPING!!!]
"Increddible, absolutley increddible." [Perci is staring at wonder.] "It's like your thought switch in an instant. Going from one plan to another faster than any mind should be able to!"
"Future vision? Perhaps?" [Merlon adds. You look over to Mirabelle, you share a look.] "No, not quite. . ."
"Oh!" [Perci snaps his fingers.] "Is that what that looping you keep thinking about is? Time looping back when you loose?"
<. . . . .>
[Percis face lights up.] "It IS!!! Oh, oh my, Merlon we have a lot of work to do."
<He rushes in again. Block, dodge- >
<Again. Jump, stab down- >
<Dash in to meet him, leap, craft- >
[IT'S NOT WORKING]
<He can read our movements. Can't, think them, just, focus on- >
<Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow, Creeps in this petty pace from day to day.>
[What are you DOING?!?]
<Stop thinking. Block, strike, dodge, block, craft->
<To the last syllable of recorded time; And all our yesterdays have lighted fools.>
<The way to dusty death. Out, out, brief candle! Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player,>
"Reciting plays to cover your thoughts?" <Perci says. Strike block lunge.> "It might work~"
"Your rogue is a very talented fighter, Mirabelle." <Merlon's voice.>
". . . ." <Mirabelle> "He, he is."
<Dodge, duck, jump, cornered. Block He looks you in the eye.>
<That struts and frets his hour upon the stage- >
< -And then is heard no more. It is a tale>
<Block, parry. Block, dodge.>
"No crafts, Null?" <Perci lunges.> "Focused too much on your footwork, perhaps."
[I can. Just-]
<No. You just. Needed. A dagger.>
<He's taunting.> "I can tell by your thoughts, you've already tried beating me quite a bit."
<Cut him. Jump. Hit, trip- >
<Told by an idiot>
<Your little wounds hurt. Legs getting weak. Looping, hard.>
"Stop it!!" <Mirabelle.> "Both of you!! They, S-sif you'll, you'll-"
<Jump, duck, parry, counter.>
<He's gloating.> "I'd call it cheating, but, it looks like you're only hurting yourself."
<He knocks your dagger away, you- >
<Full of sound and fury,>
<You collapse.>
<Your legs, arms, feet, chest, hands, stomach, it burns, it BURNS. It's all numb, it's all pain, it's nothing, eveerything. Null. Zero. Nothing. Nothing but pain, pain, pain- >
<Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, Signifying nothing.>
<You can't go on.>
<You lost.>

“Peeta Mellark.”
Peeta Mellark!
Oh, no, I think. Not him. Because I recognize this name, although I have never spoken directly to its owner. Peeta Mellark.
No, the odds are not in my favor today.
I watch him as he makes his way toward the stage. Medium height, stocky build, ashy blond hair that falls in waves over his forehead. The shock of the moment is registering on his face, you can see his struggle to remain emotionless, but his blue eyes show the alarm I’ve seen so often in prey. Yet he climbs steadily onto the stage and takes his place.

Why him? I think. Then I try to convince myself it doesn’t matter. Peeta Mellark and I are not friends. Not even neighbors. We don’t speak. Our only real interaction happened years ago. He’s probably forgotten it. But I haven’t and I know I never will…

As I examined them, the youngest, one of the Cullens, looked up and met my gaze, this time with evident curiosity in his expression. As I looked swiftly away, it seemed to me that his glance held some kind of unmet expectation.
"Which one is the boy with the reddish brown hair?" I asked. I peeked at him from the corner of my eye, and he was still staring at me, but not gawking like the other students had today — he had a slightly frustrated expression. I looked down again.
"That's Edward. He's gorgeous, of course, but don't waste your time. He doesn't date. Apparently none of the girls here are good-looking enough for him." She sniffed, a clear case of sour grapes. I wondered when he'd turned her down.
I bit my lip to hide my smile. Then I glanced at him again. His face was turned away, but I thought his cheek appeared lifted, as if he were smiling, too.

[ harry/ginny - harry potter ]
“You know that black-haired boy who was near us in the station? Know who he is?”
“Who?”
“Harry Potter!”
Harry heard the little girl’s voice. “Oh, Mum, can I go on the train and see him, Mum, oh please. . . .”
“You’ve already seen him, Ginny, and the poor boy isn’t something you goggle at in a zoo.”

[ hermione/ron - harry potter ]
“Has anyone seen a toad? Neville’s lost one,” she said. She had a bossy sort of voice, lots of bushy brown hair, and rather large front teeth.
“We’ve already told him we haven’t seen it,” said Ron, but the girl wasn’t listening, she was looking at the wand in his hand.
“Oh, are you doing magic? Let’s see it, then.” She sat down. Ron looked taken aback.
“Er — all right.”
[…]
He waved his wand, but nothing happened. Scabbers stayed gray and fast asleep.
“Are you sure that’s a real spell?” said the girl. “Well, it’s not very good, is it? I’ve tried a few simple spells just for practice and it’s all worked for me. Nobody in my family’s magic at all, it was ever such a surprise when I got my letter, but I was ever so pleased, of course, I mean, it’s the very best school of witchcraft there is, I’ve heard — I’ve learned all our course books by heart, of course, I just hope it will be enough — I’m Hermione Granger, by the way, who are you?”
[…]
“I’m Ron Weasley,” Ron muttered.

[ tris/four - divergent ]
I have to stand on solid ground again. I see a few hands stretching out to me at the edge of the net, so I grab the first one I can reach and pull myself across. I roll off, and I would have fallen face-first onto a wood floor if he had not caught me.
“He” is the young man attached to the hand I grabbed. He has a spare upper lip and a full lower lip. His eyes are so deep-set that his eyelashes touch the skin under his eyebrows, and they are dark blue, a dreaming, sleeping, waiting color.

[ percy/annabeth - percy jackson ]
“Annabeth?” Mr. Brunner called to the blonde girl.
She came forward and Mr. Brunner introduced us. “This young lady nursed you back to health, Percy. Annabeth, my dear, why don’t you go check on Percy’s bunk? We’ll be putting him in cabin eleven for now.”
Annabeth said, “Sure, Chiron.”
She was probably my age, maybe a couple of centimeters taller and a whole lot more athletic-looking. With her deep tan skin and her curly blonde hair, she was almost exactly what I thought a stereotypical California girl would look like, except her eyes ruined the image. They were startling grey, like storm clouds; pretty but intimidating too, as if she were analyzing the best way to take me down in a fight.
She glanced at the Minotaur horn in my hand, then back at me. I imagined she was going to say, You killed a Minotaur! or Wow, you’re so awesome! or something like that.
Instead she said, “You drool when you sleep.”

[ thomas/teresa - the maze runner ]
But he had caught a glimpse of her before being blocked off. She was thin, but not too small. Maybe five and a half feet tall, from what he could tell. She looked like she could be fifteen or sixteen years old, and her hair was tar black. But the thing that had really stood out to him was her skin: pale, white as pearls.
[…]
He approached Newt and Alby, who both knelt beside the girl. Thomas, not wanting to meet their stares, concentrated on the girl; despite her paleness, she was really pretty. More than pretty. Beautiful. Silky hair, flawless skin, perfect lips, long legs. It made him sick to think that way about a dead girl, but he couldn’t look away. Won’t be that way for long, he thought with a queasy twist in his stomach. She’ll start rotting soon. He was surprised at having such a morbid thought.
“You know this girl, shank?” Alby asked, sounding ticked off.
Thomas was shocked by the question. “Know her? Of course I don’t know her. I don’t know anyone. Except for you guys.”
“That’s not …,” Alby began, then stopped with a frustrated sigh. “I meant does she look familiar at all? Any kind of feelin’ you’ve seen her before?”
“No. Nothing.” Thomas shifted, looked down at his feet, then back at the girl.
[…]
Thomas’s mind was spinning. He was sure he’d never seen her before—but then the slightest hint of doubt crept into his mind. “I swear she doesn’t look familiar at all,” he said anyway. He’d had enough accusations.

[ clary/jace - the mortal instruments ]
It was Alec who spoke first. “What’s this?” he demanded, looking from Clary to his companions, as if they might know what she was doing there.
“It’s a girl,” Jace said, recovering his composure. “Surely you’ve seen girls before, Alec. Your sister Isabelle is one.” He took a step closer to Clary, squinting as if he couldn’t quite believe what he was seeing. “A mundie girl,” he said, half to himself. “And she can see us.” “
“Of course I can see you,” Clary said. “I’m not blind, you know.”
“Oh, but you are,” said Jace, bending to pick up his knife. “You just don’t know it.” He straightened up. “You’d better get out of here, if you know what’s good for you.”
“I’m not going anywhere,” Clary said. “If I do, you’ll kill him.” She pointed at the boy with the blue hair.
“That’s true,” admitted Jace, twirling the knife between his fingers. “What do you care if I kill him or not?”
“Be-because—,” Clary spluttered. “You can’t just go around killing people.”
“You’re right,” said Jace. “You can’t go around killing people.” He pointed at the boy with blue hair, whose eyes were slitted. Clary wondered if he’d fainted. “That’s not a person, little girl. It may look like a person and talk like a person and maybe even bleed like a person. But it’s a monster.”

if you wanna share anything about your trans arthuriana story, i’m very curious :)
Jokes on you anon by saying ‘anything’ you’ve given me an excuse to talk exclusively about worldbuilding- just kidding I’ll tell you some plot stuff too :)
The story starts by following this anonymous Black Knight as he completes quests for a mysterious sorcerer-king (usually of a violent and unethical manner eg. slaying dragons and unicorns, capturing harpies and sirens, luring travelers to be charmed into being servants to the sorcerer-king, etc).
The knight is an amnesiac following the sorcerer-king’s orders under threat of torture and promise of eternal life (evil version). He does die on these quests on occasion, and is revived by the magic of his master (it sucks). He’s having a generally bad time and is desperately trying to figure out who he was before he worked for this sorcerer-king. The amnesia is a spell that can only be broken by hearing his name - and given how long he’s been a prisoner, he’s not sure if anyone remembers who he was except for the aforementioned evil sorcerer-king who cursed him. The world itself seems to have forgotten his name.
There’s romance with an immortal transman and his nonbinary mage partner, there’s mystery in figuring out who the knight was (and who he will be), why no one knows his name (it’s because a wizard erased him from the record and memories of the world and the evil sorcerer is unsurprisingly transphobic [in a - this is a good way to make sure this spell is unbreakable - way. he doesn’t have any strong negative feelings on trans people he’s just efficiently evil]), who the sorcerer-king is and his motivations, as well as some supernatural shenanigans.
There’s roughly three major sociopolitical spheres outside of the evil sorcerer-king’s domain: the Fae, the humans, and the Minoans.
Fae are the closest to true immortals - they can only be harmed or killed by magical means, only with their consent (hence a strong culture dedicated to finding every loophole and exploiting any they find). They are innately magical and have a loose, fluid connection to their physical forms.
Minoans are the ones I need to explain the most about, seeing as the only reference a general audience has is an ancient civilization that mysteriously collapsed. They’re humanoid but can have a varying degree of bovine characteristics - horns, ears, trails, cloven feet, etc. They also possess unique metallic skin - while it can be pierced, it is tough and resistant compared to squishy humans and vapor-like Fae. They’re like lobsters. In the sense that they cannot die by old age or disease; but they can starve, die of thirst, be wounded by non-magical means, etc. Their unique physiques and semi-mortality has lead to a strong warrior culture - the main and preferred cause of death being combat. Death is not feared as it is in Fae society, instead it is accepted thoroughly as a natural consequence to the lives they choose. They also have a very strong connection to their bodies, modifying them for aesthetic and magical means.
Humans are very, very mortal. Magic, physical means, disease - pretty much anything can kill them. Humans are believed to be distantly related or descended from to the now extinct giants of the land, which once inhabited the geographic area humans claim. Their temporary nature is respected by the neighboring Fae and Minoans for the perspective it grants them regarding death which so strongly influences the other cultures. Also because of their ephemeral existence, they have varying attachment to their bodies. Some are highly spiritual, and others more somatic; this creates a bridge between the Fae and Minoan cultural differences in regard to death.
Magic, while innate to Fae and similar creatures, can be practiced by any being. Minoans magic, in keeping with their culture of the body, is strongly tied to physical means. Potions, runes carved into their hides, etc. Humans can come to practice magic in a few ways and as such have a few categories of magic users: mages, wizards, and witches.
Mages are the most common - these humans have studied magic and have a carefully kept history of spells, like genealogists. Mages, because of their immaculate records, often specialize in different categories of magic taxonomy (mending-healing, for example) but they can also be generalists.
Wizards are the most rare. Their magical school of thought is similar to Fae - at least, an attempt at interpreting the innate magic of Fae. If a mage studies this school of thought long enough and knows their rune histories intimately enough, they can learn to imbue themselves with magic and thus artificially prolong their lives in a manner similar to Fae. Their magic is highly conceptual - in that, they can alter the fabric of reality across reality rather than apply their magic to more practical and smaller scale uses. Their lore is still kind of a WIP considering how few (1-2) will appear in the story itself.
Witches are uncommon but not unheard of. They tend toward a more Minoan philosophy of magic, with primarily focusing on potions and applicable spells. They have a strong mentor-apprentice hierarchy, with different families and lines emerging over the years.

I feel the same way about Daniel Radcliffe's Harry not having green eyes.
personal opinion:
I wish they died Walker Scobell's hair black so that he would look even more like Percy, sure, but mostly I wish they would because Percy was meant to look like Rick Riordan's son, and that was a defining characteristic. So like. Walker Scobell is matching the image of Percy in my head from when I was a kid in every way—except he doesn't look like the creator of his character's son. And I know that hair color doesn't matter when you're prioritizing character traits...but for Percy, such a point was made of it. The author really wanted readers to be picturing someone who vaguely resembles his son when they thought of the hero. And it worked, and I did. So now I'm totally distracted when watching Walker Scobell because I literally have to remind myself, "that's Percy" because the echoes of my middle-school brain won't think of him as Percy if he doesn't have black hair.

Sometimes Things That Shake Up the Status Quo are Worse
I keep seeing people insisting that Exandria "can't return to the status quo, which was bad", but rarely do they say anything in support of that argument beyond "the Primes pick and choose favorites!". And while I'm not confident the show itself won't try to make that claim, the reality is that it just isn't borne out mechanically or narratively. Laying aside that non-Divine Soul sorcerers exist (like, and I'm just spitballing here, Aberrant Mind Ruidusborn), the gods work primarily through the on-the-ground efforts of clerics and paladins—people who have actively and consistently put in the work to devote themselves to the divine. This is a setting where resurrection magic, which relies on divine power, has been intentionally made more difficult than it is in DnD rules-as-written. Even clerics only get access to Divine Intervention at level 10 (when they've already spent a long time devoting themselves to their deity) and up until level 20 the chances of it actually working are vanishingly small—and level 20 clerics are both hard to come by and ultimately still limited.
In the rare event that the Prime Deities choose to bless someone who isn't a cleric or paladin, it's someone who has a good reason to have gotten their attention. Vax offered his life during a divine ritual in the burial site of the Raven Queen's most devoted champion and then actively committed himself to her cause. Yasha was an aasimar being mind-controlled by a devil who wound up at a divine altar and chose to worship Kord after he freed her. Orym is the devoted widower of someone who is in Melora's realm and was present at a ritual in a temple associated with Melora, and one of his companions prayed at a shrine to Melora on his behalf. Vex was directly in front of Pelor, had taken a leadership position in one of his sacred cities, and had received a vision from him directly—and even then, she had to earn it. Scanlan also had to earn the right to Ioun's favor and complete a trial, and had previously shown qualities and values that she believed were fitting of her champion. Fjord was a companion of a devoted cleric of Melora who had sought her help in keeping Uk'otoa sealed and made requests of her on Fjord's behalf, and Fjord also chose to meditate and then became a paladin devoted to her.
And in Exandria, if you don't want to follow a god, you don't have to. Percy, Keyleth, Grog, Beau, Veth, Caleb, Essek, most of Bell's Hells, the average commoner in the various cities the parties have traveled to—whether they outright dislike the gods as a whole or just don't have an interest either way, they're all capable of thriving with or without them, and indeed their problems are almost entirely caused by mortals. It's especially egregious when you consider that cities like Avalir were around during the Age of Arcanum, when the Prime Deities physically walked Exandria, and people like Laerryn, Patia, Zerxus, and Lacrytia Hollow—openly disdainful of the gods or even trying to create feats of magic to get on their level—were continuing business as usual. The previous god of death not only willingly abdicated in favor of a mortal during this time, but outright helped her do the job!
The Prime Deities can't win. If they didn't give anyone any power at all, they'd be viewed as selfish. If they'd stayed on Exandria after the Calamity, they'd be foolish and reckless. They're simply not capable of intervening and helping everyone, so they're labeled capricious. If they leave Exandria, they're abandoning not only their refuge and home, but also the people who need and rely on them. You can argue that "no one should have that much power" all you want, but I think it's exceptionally silly to take an argument meant to criticize the wealthy and powerful of our world (whose only unique quality is ultimately that they got lucky) and apply it to fictional deities (beings who are powerful by their very nature) who, while flawed, also think they're too powerful. They tried to protect Exandria from themselves and the Betrayers while still using their power to do right by the people there, and for the most part it was working just fine.
The "status quo" from before all this was and still is the best compromise available. No one has managed to sell a better one that doesn't amount to "cater to my blorbos and my self-indulgent idea of revolutionary politics, which may or may not also ultimately circle back to my blorbos". I think that's pretty telling.

Fic idea up for grabs
A feast is held to celebrate Camelot forging a new peace treaty with another kingdom but someone doesn't want the treaty to be put in place. They spike the wine with truth serum hoping to cause enough offense or embarrassment that the deal will be called off.
A few secrets start to get revealed and as realization spreads around the hall Arthur becomes noticeably tight-lipped. He's got a hand over his mouth and is visibly restraining himself from blurting something out. The person who spiked the wine gets excited thinking the king must have some deep dark secret he's holding back and starts trying to goad him into saying it. Surely whatever terrible thing the great King Arthur is so desperate to hide must be enough to destroy any chance of a peace treaty.
The knights try to stop them but they're held back by magic. Merlin desperately wants to help but he's terrified that if he opens his mouth to cast a spell his own enormous secrets will start spilling out.
The sorcerer keeps needling Arthur "Come on your majesty, what is it that you're so desperate to avoid saying?" until finally he can't hold back anymore and blurts out "I'M IN LOVE WITH MERLIN!"
Everyone in the hall freezes. The sorcerer is stunned because that is not what they expected the king to say. Merlin's brain short circuits and he needs a moment to process that Arthur returns his feeling. Arthur hides his face in his hands cause this is so not how he wanted to tell Merlin, if he ever did.
The silence is broken by Gwaine calling out "Percy you owe me so much money!"
