The character of Paulette in Legally Blonde is so fascinating. She feels like her body makes her undeserving of love, or basic human respect. She's jealous of Elle, for being the "ideal" woman, the type her worthless man left her for, and the fact that she, the "perfect" thin, young, beauty queen, can't keep the man she loves, both terrifies her, and emboldens her. It helps her realize that it's not her fault for not being "perfect", it's the fault of the men that treat women like disposable toys.

The only difference between her ex and Warner is money and social class.

And she is perfectly capable of finding love with a man she finds attractive, her only issue is confidence. Which Elle helps her with. "Ugly" women, who are taught that they're too old or too fat or too whatever to get love don't often have romantic and sexual confidence. They either have it beaten out of them by society, or are never allowed to develop it in the first place. Women like Elle, who are "beautiful", have it taught to them or just develop it, because they're "supposed to" have it.

in my own brain I concluded that Paulette and Kyle had twins because that seemed like the only logical conclusion to them having two kids and expecting a third just over two years after they first met but it just occurred to me that having two kids two years after they first met implies that they might be IRISH TWINS 😭😭

Elle and Paulette’s relationship is just beautiful to me. 

Like, Elle is a young beautiful woman going to Harvard who uses her money to get her nails done because she feels bad but when she meets Paulette and they immediately get along, despite the age difference and the gap between their income. Paulette instantly understands the need for a good spa day and she just... listens when Elle needs it. 

And in return Elle lends an ear to her and helps where she can. They hold each other up, Elle gives Paulette the confidence she needs to stand up to her ex and feel sexy again and Paulette supports her throughout her Harvard troubles. They love each other so much and it’s beautiful to see an older woman having a friend in media, finding her sexuality and getting the guy (a hot guy too). And like, yes, Paulette is comedic character and in some ways but there’s that underlying reversal of stereotypes about divorced middle aged women. She’s kind, she’s loving, she’s attractive and in the end she’s happy.
