Pitt Lane, Appledore’s green space gone forever after shameless council vote

Decision on Pitt Lane, Appledore at 9.30 AM 16.1.20 by Torridge District Council Plans Committee at Bideford Town Hall.

Result was 4 against, 5 for it. Yet, Chris Leather, Plans Chair and Chair of Northam Town Council's Neighbourhood Plan Committee, didn't even know one of the reports points out there is impermeable rock on the site. IE, rock that causes flooding. That's because no detailed site assessment was done when the site was being looked at for inclusion in the local plan.

Note* Northam Town Council's Neighbourhood Plan Committee is the only Parish in the UK without public participation in their own Neighbourhood Plan, which is the whole point.

Vote: Against: Cllrs. Brown, McGeough, Christie, Boughton. For: Cllrs. Wiseman, Craigie, Lock, Watson, Leather.

True Love Lasts Forever – The Lincoln Town Car – Classic Luxury

If the Lincoln Towncar doesn’t hold the all time record for car fornication, thenI don’t know what does.  Think of all the proms, weddings, taxis, and horny 1990’s businessmen!… Actually don’t.  Today on the Car Truth Report, we delve into what made the Lincoln Towncar loved bymillions, and why you should love it too!The Lincoln Towncar, which ran from 1981 to 2011, and sold over a million units, was inour opinion, the last REAL luxury car that Lincoln ever made.  It may not seem like anything special today, but when you look at what the average interiorof a car was like in the 1990’s, it is no surprise that the Town Car was the most usedlimousine chassis of its time.  I still remember the first time that I got to ride in the back of my friends’ dadsregular length Towncar.  Even though I was only 9 or 10, and knew very little about cars at that time, I stillknew it was special.  The TownCar is something that when you try to explain it in the usual way – with stats- it doesn’t really sound that great.  Even equipped with a V8 – usually a sign of performance – the Lincoln Towncar usuallymade right around 200 horsepower. Though one could be inclined to think that the TownCar’s track record for going manyhundreds of thousands of miles may attributed to having such a under-strung engine.  Hearing of Towncars, or it’s two cousins the Grand Marquis, and Crown Vic with over500,000, or even a million miles on them is not that uncommon.  Also given the average age of someone who currently drives one of these luxury bargesis about 94, I say the less power the better. Rattling off a bunch of numbers isn’t going to get to the nectar, the essence, of whywe here at the Car Truth Report really love the Lincoln Towncar.  The real reason TownCar is truly great, is because it was built with a single, uncompromisingmission, comfort.  Modern “luxury” cars are built with a different ethos: half comfort, and halfperformance.  A perfect example of this was even seen in the Lincoln line-up with the introductionof the much sportier, closet jaguar,“ Lincoln LS in 1999.  And if you are a fan of the Lincoln LS, or just cool car knowledge in general, be sureto subscribe to our channel for future videos. You see, modern seats squeeze you with lumbar support and yadda yadda yadda, but the Towncar’sseats envelope you, like an expensive cushy recliner.  Modern “luxury” cars suspensions are tuned for cornering on racetracks like thenurburgring, while the TownCar’s air ride suspension, when it wasn’t broken, was clearlydesigned with straight lines, and potholes in mind.  There is no reason to be accelerating or turning fast when you are in a Lincoln Towncar,you will get there when you get there.  And if you have somehow made it to this point in your life, without riding in or drivinga towncar, then we here at the Car Truth Report would highly recommend it, so at the veryleast you can see what luxury used to be like, for better or for worse. St. Margaret’s Churchyard, Northam, may be known by many as the 2020 Winner of the Best Devon Churchyard Award but few will know of its connection to Napoleon Bonaparte.

In the churchyard rest the remains of Northam resident, Benjamin Rogers. He was a member of the Guard of Honour at the May 5 1821 funeral of Napoleon Bonaparte on the Island of St. Helena, which is part of the British Overseas Territory in the South Atlantic Ocean.

Emirates Team New Zealand have powered through to become the challengers for the 35th America's Cup match against Oracle Team USA.

12/06/2017 - Bermuda (BDA) - 35th America's Cup Bermuda 2017 - Louis Vuitton America's Cup Challenger Playoffs final, Day 3

Emirates Team New Zealand have powered through to become the challengers for the 35th America's Cup match against Oracle Team USA. If the fastest boat always wins, is this what we have just seen in the playoffs?

After a first race today in such light winds that the two boats were unable to foil and ran out of time, the wind picked up and allowed the two teams to match up. Artemis Racing started at 4-2 down, their backs to the wall.

Peter Burling, helmsman of Emirates Team New Zealand was more aggressive in the pre-start today and managed to start to leeward of Artemis and push them above the first mark to give them the advantage on the bearaway.

After that it was a distinctly one-sided affair. Today, with both boats using their light winds foil configurations, there was none of the close quarters tactics or excitement of the earlier races. Emirates Team New Zealand were simply faster and extended right to the finish.

Apart from the pre-start, there were just no passing opportunities for Artemis.

There is no way round the fact that the New Zealand team have a rocketship, one that has been faster, more consistently than any other in the qualifiers or playoffs, and especially so upwind in breezesover 12 knots.

Bowing out of the competition, team patron Trbjorn Trnqvist confirmed that that the Artemis team would return to the America's Cup and come back even sharper, while Iain Percy also said that Nathan Outteridge would again skipper the boat.

He left in doubt his own place on the sailing team (though not the management of it) saying: Age definitely catches up with you I can tell you. It'll be Nathan's call about the best sailors but for me personally it's not something I'm particularly attached to. I can assure you that, at 41, spinning those handles gets tough.

Reflecting on the advantage that Emirates Team New Zealand had over them, Nathan Outteridge suggested a big part of it was thefoil control systems on Emirates Team New Zealand.

Asked about the bikes New Zealand were using, Outteridge commented: To be honest I think the bikes gave them an avenue to do things the other teams couldn't do in hydraulic capabilities especially for adjusting their wing but I don't think that's the thing that won it for them.

Using pedal power not only gives Emirates Team New Zealand extra power for hydraulic systems, but is part of a set up that puts foil control in the hands of Blair Tuke and leaves Peter Burling free to think about tactics, whereas on Artemis (and indeed Oracle Team USA) foil rake is controlled by the helmsman using buttons or twist grips on the wheel.

Can Emirates Team New Zealand go on to beat Oracle Team USA in the Cup match, which will be played out over the next two weekends?

Rumours abound in the America's Cup village in Bermuda. Many are saying that if the winds are stronger the Kiwi boat maybe unbeatable.

Some believethe factthat Peter Burling is doing most of the tactics single-handedly isa disadvantage, but if it is one that Emirates Team New Zealand does suffer, it is always open to them to split thatrole. Today, for example, it lookedas if there was a bit morechat between Burling and wing trimmer Glenn Ashby; up until nowthere has beenremarkably little communication on board when compared withother teams' conventional helmsman/tactician arrangement.

A new set of foil tips is also on the way to Emirates Team New Zealand, one their design team presumably think will be quicker in a key wind range.

Meanwhile, Oracle Team USA has been out doing starting practice with sister team SoftBank team Japan. Pre-start tactics have been regarded as one of Peter Burling's weaknesses; this is a very public display of intent by Spithill.

But ifJimmy Spithill is going to try topsych out Peter Burling, as he did Dean Barker during the last America's Cup, thatmay be moredifficult to mess. Peter Burling is quite a phenomenon:a strange, impassive, unflappable genius.
