i genuinely hate how people have to sit and write a post that stands out while boosting a fundraiser because most people won't bat an eye at the misery and inhumane conditions Palestinians are living in.

i see people making art and telling others to use it because fundraisers with art are generally reblogged more often. i see people using colored text in order to make the post more eye catching.

palestinians on instagram are using popular audios and stitch trending reels at the beginning to make the world pay attention to them. imagine having to make something look entertaining in order to survive.

they are living under constant threat of israeli airstrikes, bombing, scarcity of food and disease. many have lost a lot in the past few months.

palestinians on tumblr are posting their pictures and the horrible conditions in which they are living. they travel long distances for internet connection only to be called a scammer by some privileged ass who cannot locate gaza on a map.

Literally begging anyone who can vote in US elections to vote, and to vote against Trump. Which means voting for Harris, not abstaining or voting third party.

My family actually did move here from an authoritarian country, where voting literally didn't matter, they literally did throw out your vote, and they literally did assassinate citizens who spoke out against them.

We would all very much like to keep living in a country where those things are not the case!

You know, the same things that Trump and his stooges have openly said they want to do. And two of the main propaganda lines for why people in the US shouldn't vote, which is a lie.

Voting matters. The parties are not the same.

And make sure to vote in down-ballot races!!!

And like. The fact that voting matters in the US is a very real reason for hope. It is something you should genuinely appreciate. We can make a difference.

And a lot of people risked their lives or even died to earn that right, and it's a right not everyone has.

I recall saying this before, but it bears repeating:

There could be a billion trans people in the world and it still wouldn't be a bad thing because being trans is not a bad thing. Even if the rate of people discovering they are trans is "disproportionate" to trends from decades ago, that is not a bad thing. In fact, it's a natural consequence for there being more trans people being able to stay alive, and, overall, being able to live in a slightly more tolerant world. putting my prediction on record now that the coming decade is going to see the rise of viral-marketed fancy at-home water filtration systems, driving and driven by a drastic reduction in the quality of U.S. tap water (given that we are in a 'replacement era' where our current infrastructure is reaching the end of its lifespan--but isn't being replaced). also guessing that by the 2030s access to drinkable tap water will be a mainstream class issue, with low-income & unstably housed people increasingly forced to rely on expensive bottled water when they can't afford the up-front cost of at-home filtration--and with this being portrayed in media as a "moral failing" and short-sighted "choice," rather than a basic failure of our political & economic systems. really hope i'm just being alarmist, but plenty of this already happens in other countries, and the U.S. is in a state of decline, so. here's praying this post ages into irrelevance. timestamped April 2023

for the past several months, palestinian men have shown a great amount courage and bravery in the face of danger.

they have dug people and children out of rubble, sometimes alive and sometimes dead. they have travelled miles and miles to provide food and water for their family.

they have come online pleading with everyone to help them. many travel long distances for internet connection. they have been on the frontlines for months, providing for their family, documenting the genocide, helping people and in many instances, dying.

in return, they have been dehumanised, their lives are not counted as 'precious' because they are men. people have been indifferent to their suffering and death. they have been called scammers, all while they face the dangers of airstrikes, food and water scarcity, and disease. they have been dehumanised to such an extent that people refuse to help their fundraisers.

i urge you all to share the linked posts and donate what you can spare to those who are suffering. we owe it to them, for we never talk about their suffering.

The idea that uni protesters are "elitist ivy-league rich kids larping as revolutionaries" on Twitter and Reddit and even here is so fucking funny to me if you actually know anything about the student bodies at these unis. Take it from someone who's going to one of the biggest private unis in the US, 80% of the peers I know are either from the suburbs or an apartment somewhere in America, children of immigrants, or here on a student visa. I've heard about one-percenter students, but I've never met one in person. Like, don't get me wrong, the institution as a whole is still very privileged and white. I've talked with friends and classmates about feeling weird or dissonant being here and coming from such a different background. But in my art program, I see BIPOC, disabled, queer, lower-income students and faculty trying to deconstruct and tear that down and make space every day. So to take a cursory glance at a crowd of student protesters in coalitions that are led by BIPOC & 1st/2nd-gen immigrant students and HQ'd in ethnic housings and student organizations and say, "ah. children of the elite." Get real.

i know you might object to voting democrat

i know that resistance doesn't begin or end at the ballot box

but sometimes you have to park your ideological purity in order to have a tangible effect. They are not the same. when you take to the streets it is better you have a government that will ignore you at worst then a government that will shoot you.

And remember: they might agree on some points but they disagree on many more. Your defiance is compliance if you abstain from voting on a single issue.

ALSO: don't get pissy with democrats for not doing something if the thing in question was blocked by the house. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES IS ALSO UP FOR ELECTION AND A REPUBLICAN MAJORITY IS ALMOST AS BAD AS TRUMP FOR PRESIDENT

FINALLY: yes this applies if you live in a red state. nothing is certain in life, and even less so in politics. besides, don't give anyone the excuse to say that x group isn't interested in politics so why bother voting.
