favorite thing about them

I've been planning a reread of Gilded Apotheosis to recalibrate my characterization of Cyrielle. But I remember her being very caring and humorous. She was never particularly clever, but her blunt humor and attitude were endearing. She sassed Margit [affectionately] and sassed Morgott [derogatorily] and I think her characterization made her an OC shipping fodder protagonist people actually connected with!

I also like the design element of her golden scar. Its a physical feature that makes her stand out amongst the dozens of women Tarnished with braided hair (we all have great taste).

least favorite thing about them

I wish I had fleshed out her backstory more. For some reason I believed it was canon that Tarnished are revived with little to no memory of their past lives. I think I was just led astray by popular fanon haha. But regardless, I think Cyrielle is flatter than most other Tarnished OCs because of her lack of compelling backstory.

This one's difficult! To me Cyrielle has plenty of memorable scenes but very few striking lines. Morgott wins out in that regard. But these three jumped to the front of my mind. They are just really tender and loving. The first and third quotes are her addressing Margit before she learns of his double identity. It just. Auughhhh!!! And the second is her confronting Morgott with that truth.

Mohg and Cyrielle! 

I enjoyed the shift in HSPS when Mohg went from barely acknowledging her to being her confidant and friend. She’s one of the few people that doesn’t know a lot about his baggage and just treats him like her brother in law. Thus he was there for her at her lowest moment.

Cyrielle and Aster

Yeah, they're mortal enemies now but thinking back on their relationship makes me almost nostalgic in a bittersweet way. They fought their way through Gelmir together! And Liurnia! They were besties! And now Aster can only regret the relationship he destroyed (and the memory of it too). And Cyrielle wants him to die. Tragic!

I remember a couple of people suggesting to me that those two men had crushes on Cyrielle while I was writing GA. On the one hand, I’m flattered that their rapport and interactions were compelling enough for people to come to those conclusions! But it’s very much not the case. Aster is gay. And Shanehaight sucks! Haha

Before meeting Aster and beginning her earnest bid for Lordship, Cyrielle was recruited by D to collect Deathroot for Gurranq. This deepened her faith in the Golden Order- which eventually drew her to want to side with Morgott. It also makes her eventual fatal Deathblight wound all the more ironic.

Since Tarnished were largely persecuted and spurned in the Lands Between by the time of her arrival, she spent most of her Tarnished life living nomadically. Finally having a permanent residence allowed her to discover a love of cooking and gardening. But her standards of home cleanliness are really low.

Having a hard time choosing a pwotr character for the character breakdown asks because I'd love to hear your thoughts on so many of them, but you know who I'd pick if cornered. Woljif please 😁

How I feel about this character

He’s one of my pwotr favs! I’m sure it helped that Piper was my first playthrough- they were born to be best friends, and as soon as he told her they could run off together if the Crusader thing didn’t work out he cemented his permanent place in her party

Even without all that, he’s an archetype I really enjoy: the chaotic mischief-maker with hidden depths, who has a ton of flaws and makes a ton of mistakes but ultimately has his heart in the right place

All the people I ship romantically with this character

Hmm- I’ll be honest, I haven’t thought about this one much! All the OC ships with him are great (I love Sia/Woljif so much!!!), but other than those I haven’t considered many!

That said, I do think Sosiel/Woljif would be cute. There’s a banter where Sosiel says that Woljif has “an intriguing and appealing expression” when he’s lost in thought…and Woljif brushes it off as Sosiel telling him to be quiet, but idk I think there could be something there.

Like, Woljif enjoys challenging a lot of Sosiel’s ideas, but Sosiel genuinely enjoys the discussion and appreciates some of Woljif’s deeper thoughts. And Sosiel likes catching Woljif off guard by meeting Woljif’s cynicism with his own earnest opinions (see that banter where Woljif asks what the most valuable thing in a shelynite temple is and Sosiel just says “rose petal tea <3”). And I think Sosiel would bring out Woljif’s softer side, and Woljif would get protective of Sosiel, and they’d have some interesting parallels in how their respective families impact their character arcs. Y’know this started out as a small thought but the more I talk the more I like it

My non-romantic OTP for this character

I mean, y’all know how much the Piper & Woljif friendship. Rambling about my OC’s probably isn’t what this prompt is intended for but too bad because Piper & Woljif are everything to me. They had this instant understanding of each other, and they only grew closer over time, and they’re joking when they call each other brother and sister but they also mean it with their whole hearts. I need to find that quote about friendship soulmates again because that’s them!!

Ha but for canon- I really like Woljif’s friendship with both Seelah and Daeran. Despite their differences he and Seelah have such a good time together, talking about cons and tavern songs, they’re a fun pair! And it’s fun to imagine Woljif and Daeran after the game, traveling around and causing trouble on their own time.

My unpopular opinion about this character

Ok, I did just say I like his and Daeran’s friendship- but I really hate that one banter where Daeran jokes about throwing coins on the ground and making Woljif bark like a dog??

I mean, it’s in character for Daeran; that’s the kind of shit he likes to say. But it’s weird to me that Woljif has so little of a reaction to that, especially when we see him get worked up over being looked down on in other circumstances.

And I’ll admit, part of the reason is bothers me so much is how many people I saw react to it like it was a ‘haha hilarious’ moment and not a ‘Daeran wtf’ moment

Anyway. A less salty one is that I really like how his bad ending is written! This one is just unpopular because not many do it- understandable, it does hurt my heart a lot. But the characterization is so good, they manage to give him a personality that is really different from his good ending while still being very Woljif, and that’s impressive!

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

Honestly there’s not much. The nice thing about pwotr is that it’s long enough to fit a ton of character stuff, and there’s really not much I can think to add. It is a shame they didn’t get to making him a canonical romance option, so I’ll go with that- I’d be so interested to see what they had planned for that!

Akashi felt an uncharacteristic amount of excitement drum through his veins as he stepped off the train.

It had been over a month since his last trip to Tokyo, which meant it had also been more than a month since the last time he saw Furihata. And while the two of them were well acquainted with going long periods without seeing each other, one month had been a torturously long wait.

He maneuvered expertly through the crowd, keen eyes scanning the other side of the gate, searching for the tell-tale sign of brown hair.

A large group of tourist at the opposite end moved away, and Akashi’s eyes immediately landed on the brunet leaning against the wall, head down as he scrolled through his phone. Akashi came to halt, staring while his heartbeat pounded in his ears.

In the month that they’d been apart, Akashi’s life had not been the easiest. On top of managing his schoolwork, student council president responsibilities, and leading the basketball team, his father had begun increasing the work for his personal studies. Despite being in his second year of high school, he was already finding college applications strewn across his desk, along with a list of recommendations to each.

All nighters had become a frequent, and it was only by sheer luck that he managed to leave Kyoto, if only for the day. It simply meant that he would have twice as much work to finish tomorrow.

It was well worth it, in Akashi’s mind. His time with Furihata was precious.

He hadn’t told Furihata any of it, not wanting to cause his boyfriend worry. Furihata typically worried about him enough as it was, with constant messages like “Go to bed already, jeez. It’s three in the morning.” and “Remember to take a break! Don’t work yourself too hard!”

Akashi always prided himself on his strength. He knew he was capable of getting the required work done, regardless of how little sleep he got, or many hours he spent hunched over his desk, eyes blurring in the bright light of a laptop screen.

But over the past few months, Akashi found himself heeding Furihata’s advice more often that he expected too. He started taking regular breaks, usually to talk to Furihata for a few moments, or to pace across his room. Even when Furihata didn’t text him to remind him, Akashi still took the time to stretch his legs, or to get a cup a tea.

And sometimes, when the pressure built up and he felt ready to snap under it, he would call Furihata, if only to hear his voice. It was odd, but not unwelcome, how easily a simple conversation could relieve the weight on his shoulders, if only for a moment.

But now, with Furihata so close, Akashi was acutely aware of all the built up stress from the past month. While Furihata’s voice was helpful in short bursts, nothing could compare to the real thing.

To have Furihata’s arms around him… To be able to hold him and touch him…

Akashi broke into a run, without really meaning to. He was vaguely aware of the fact that it was strangely childish, but he couldn’t quite care at the moment.

He darted across the train platform, eyes locked on Furihata’s figure. He was only a few yards away when Furihata glanced up, his wide eyes scanning the crowd.

Furihata looked directly at Akashi, and his curious expression turned into one of panic. He stumbled back a half step, shifting away from the wall, and held his arms out, halfway between an ‘I’ll catch you,’ gesture and one of ‘Stop!’.

“Wait–Don’t rUN AT ME I’LL FALL!” Furihata yelled frantically.

Akashi tried to skid to a halt, but he was already too close. He collided gracelessly with Furihata, his flailing arms grabbing at Akashi. The impact sent Furihata tilting backwards, and Akashi’s hands fumbled, trying to support him. A half second later and the two of them crashed to the ground, in a tangled heap of limbs, with Akashi on top of Furihata.

Akashi shifted, in an attempt to lessen his weight on Furihata. “I’m so sorry,” Akashi said sincerely. “Are you alright?”

Furihata sat up a little, rubbing at the back of his head. “Y-Yeah, I’m okay, I think.” He looked up at Akashi, worry creasing his brows. “Are you? I kinda took you down with me…”

Akashi briefly checked himself for damage, but he was more concerned with Furihata. “I’m fine,” he said.  He brushed his hand through Furihata’s hair, gently touching the back of his head. Relief washed over him when he didn’t feel a bump. “It was my fault we fell. I apologize, really. That was foolish of me.”

Furihata tilted his head to the side a little, leaning into Akashi’s touch. “It was a little odd. For you, anyway,” he said, smiling crookedly.

Warmth spread across Akashi’s face. He felt embarrassed, suddenly, for his actions. He averted his gaze, staring at the concert platform.

“Hey,” Furihata said softly. Akashi glanced up, and Furihata leaned in, quickly pressing his lips against the corner of Akashi’s mouth. “I’m glad to see you,” he murmured quietly. “I really missed you.”

Akashi’s heart pounded in his chest, and he felt that pressing weight lift off his back. Even the loud bustle of the crowd faded away. “I missed you as well,” he said warmly, tangling his fingers in Furihata’s. “More than you could ever imagine.”

Once again, I was asked to create a new list of art prompts for October this year! These creations from you guys are ALWAYS so amazing, so I’m excited to bring you a new list! I got so many suggestions from my friends! You can use #TSinktober if you’d like to share your creations!

Remember: Even if we’re on Day 31, and you wanna post art based off the Day 1 prompt, you DEFINITELY can! There is no lateness for posting art, because it’s all entirely for fun! Hope you enjoy!!

Day 1: In a twist from the past years’ Day 1 prompts, I want to see you take a traditional Halloween monster or character, and draw what they look like Sep. 30th, and then their traditional look when it’s October 1st!  Maybe they don’t get spoopy until October 1st haha.

Day 2: Turn fall weather into a character! Could be the human embodiment of Fall, or the spirit responsible for Fall occurring, or something else!

Day 3: Turn a famous painting into a spoopy Halloween version!

Day 4: Draw a classic still life of items belonging to your favorite character. Let us guess who the items belong to!

Day 5: Draw your best friend or yourself (or both) GOIN GHOST. Ya know, that good ole Danny Phantom transformation!

Day 6: A Pokémon hanging out with (or running from) the zombified version of itself

Day 7: Choose two months, personify them, then draw what their first date would look like

Day 8: Sanders Sides characters on their dream vacations!

Day 9: A business that a Halloween monster or character would thrive on if they ran it!

Day 10: Take any popular author, imagine if they were a superhero, and draw what their comic book cover would look like!

Day 11: Portray any Disney princess as the “monster/scary thing” from a horror movie such as The Conjuring, The Nun, etc., either depicting them in a scene from the movie or the poster for the movie!

Day 12: Take any two coffee flavors, like Pumpkin Spice and Peppermint, and draw a battle between them, Mortal Kombat style (brew-tality lol)

Day 13: Take any Avenger from the MCU, and reimagine them as a Pokemon Gym Master! What would their Pokemon team look like?

Day 14: Reimagine a Sanders Sides, Cartoon Therapy, or other original character from our content as a kind of humanoid piece of candy or sweet treat!

Day 29: This one is SUPER open-ended, but I’m into that. Take any book, turn to the 13th page (so the book has to be at least 13 pages lol) and go to the 13th word on that page (if it’s an article like “a” or “the”, just go to the next adjacent noun/verb/adjective/adverb) and use it as the inspiration for a one-worded scary movie/book. Draw that poster or book cover!

Day 30: Slightly inspired by the eerie vibe one can sometimes get from Spinel (SU), Betty Boop cartoons, etc. take any character, Halloween-y creature or otherwise from any of your fave piece of media, and depict them in the classic rubberhose/ Max Fleischer-inspired art style!!

Day 31: HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Do you remember a specific Halloween that was especially memorable for you?? It might have been because of the friends you spent it with, or a memorable moment that happened, or because of a costume you were particularly fond of. Or maybe there were a series of Halloweens that were dear to you because of a tradition you did with your family (and maybe still do!). Depict that moment along with an explanation! Oh my god there are SO many amazing ships in the Grishaverse but come on you know me too well by now :P It's gotta be Alina/Darkling, though Kaz/Inej is a VERY CLOSE SECOND so I'm tempted to do them both!! Especially since:

Alina/Darkling have SO many popular quotes that are likely used to tag them fairly often, and to be fair I love all of them; like calls to like, you and i are going to change the world, and of course make me your villain. Fandoms: In terms of posted fics, mainly Rogue One and Star Wars (OT). I have at least one fic posted in A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones, Community, and Howl’s Moving Castle (book). But I also like The Clone Wars and Rebels. I’ve been reading mainly ATLA fic for the past couple weeks. 

Where you post: AO3 and sometimes here on tumblr. There are a few drabbles I’ve posted on tumblr that I really ought to crosspost on AO3 for posterity. 

Most popular one-shot: “In Which Sophie is Late, and Howl Noses Around in Her Business” (Howl’s Moving Castle) With 698 kudos. Uh. Wow. I was not expecting that! It’s literally my only HMC fic (although I do technically have other unfinished drafts) and it’s not even a year old, and surpassed my second most popular one-shot which was posted in 2015. Pregnancy trope is popular I guess. It is amusing to me that my most popular one-shot is not in my favorite OTP fandom (rebelcaptain). Howl’s Moving Castle ended up having a wider audience than I anticipated. 

Also as a disclaimer, but popularity is weird to gauge because do you go by hits or kudos or comments? I went with kudos because hits could count people who clicked on my story and then didn’t like it. But it’s hard because hits also include re-reads, so, idk. 

Most popular multi-chapter fic: “The Last Stark” (A Song of Ice and Fire) 815 kudos. This was finished in 2013 so it’s had plenty of time to accumulate the kudos. It’s a Gendrya Anastasia AU (“Aryastasia” was my working title for this one lol). So again, popular trope, in a popular fandom, in a popular ship. This fic is so old when I reread it, I usually find myself wanting to edit it, especially the ending. I was so ready to be done writing this that I think I rushed the ending. Oh well, writing plots is really difficult!

Fic you were nervous to post: Every fic? lol. I’m never not nervous to post a fic. But I’m definitely more nervous posting in a fandom for the first time. So posting “Whatever I Do (I Do It To Protect You)” (Rogue One, rebelcaptain) was pretty nervewracking, especially since it’d been awhile since I posted anything. [OOOH, fun fact, but WID celebrated it’s 4 year anniversary yesterday! Ha, that’s funny.] I was working on this fic for weeks before I posted it. 

I was also super nervous to post my Jeff/Annie Community soulmate AU, “Intro to Neurochemical Compatibility” because (a) first time posting in that fandom, (b) I decided to use script format which I know is not everyone’s jam, and (c) the premise is just so ridiculous! But I had fun with it. 

Also gift exchanges are always nerve-wracking because I worry the giftee won’t like it. My giftee never responded to my 2020 rebelcaptain secret santa fic so I’m actually constantly worrying that they didn’t like it and feeling bad that I failed them. :/ 

How you choose your titles: with so much agonizing. gosh it’s so hard and honestly i have so many titles that i hate. I’ve got a couple song lyric titles. a couple quotes. a couple “how to...” apparently that was a whole phase I went through. Either the titles come to me immediately, or I put off choosing a title until the absolutely moment I need to post it, and then spend hours agonizing over a quote/song lyric/phrase that fits and probably begging others for help.

Do you outline: YES. Possibly overly so. I’ve ran into issues in the past, when I was much younger, where I didn’t resolve problems proposed early in the story. So I need to know where the story is going in order to lay the proper groundwork. Also, if I do not write things down I forget them five minutes later. I also think outlining is a useful trick to jumpstart writing, so if the muse just isn’t present, I’ll try to lure her out by outlining. 

Complete: 19 fics. 

In progress: Oh boy this is so hard to count. As far as what’s posted? Technically only one: “How to Lose a Spy in 10 Days” (Rogue One, rebelcaptain). Despite the fact that I think the deadline was extended multiple time, I procrastinated and ended up rushing chapter one to meet the rebelcaptain rom-com challenge deadline. Didn’t really have a proper outline for this one, even though I knew vaguely what I wanted it to be about. I wrote chapter two but I hated what I wrote so I ... I kinda abandoned it. I mean technically, I never consider a work abandoned, I always intend to get back to it. Some day when I have the inspiration I will. But this idea ended up being a challenge I didn’t feel ready for at the time, and then my interest moved on to other ideas.

I also had a longer story planned for “you must become an island (the horizon is all we have)” but only posted one part of it to finish it on time. Ideally this fic would be part of a series, but again, motivation is needed so we’ll see

Technically I have 22 rebelcaptain ideas alone (including some listed in this post) at various states of completed, plus a handful of Community and HMC ideas. Of the ones I’m most interested in, there’s probably about 14 that I really hope to finish and post some day. 

ETA: omg i totally forgot that i was idly considering trying to finish my rebelcaptain soulmate AU in time for Valentine’s Day, but at this point I haven’t had any motivation to write so I don’t think that’s gonna happen. that fic has been sitting in my drafts since 2018 and in my drafts it will continue to sit.

Do you accept prompts: Wellllll here’s the thing. When I’ve asked for prompts, I haven’t been the best at fulfilling them in a timely manner. For that reason, I don’t encourage prompts but I’m not opposed to them. (I suppose technically exchange fics are prompts, and I wrote a bunch of fics in 2017 for rebelcaptainprompts, but I’m not gonna count those because I don’t think that’s what the question here is really going for)

“The Climb (A Lie, A Hero)” (Rogue One, rebelcaptain) was actually a prompt. 

I solicited prompts for my birthday in 2019, which I didn’t end up fulfilling until exactly one year later. 

Technically the You’ve Got Mail AU is a prompt, someone prompted me to write a fic for my favorite go-to comfort movie.

And, uh, the certain someone who tagged me for this meme prompted me in a comment back in October 2017 to do a Luke and Leia swap where Leia grows up on Tatooine, so that is sitting in my WIP list. 

Yeah, this is why I don’t solicit or encourage prompts. The return rate is just not fair for the prompter. 

Upcoming story you are most excited to write: this fluctuates on any given day. the fencing AU is so close to being done (well the first draft anyways) so i really really want to just finish it! But yeah it’d be anything on the coming soon list above.

head canons: In general I headcanon him as someone who was pretty satisfied with his life and was having a good, chill time being L until the Kira case gave him the challenge of his life. He’s a funny mix of dependent and highly independent; needing Watari for day to day basics but able to accomplish incredible things alone from a young age. He was incredibly sheltered and maybe genuinely believed he was the smartest person in the world before meeting his match in Light (his ego matched Light’s too). He keeps trophies of his criminal and detective conquests, like using their names/aliases, or some little item that’s important only to him as a reminder. It’s rare he feels lonely, quite enjoying solitude, but was surprised when he enjoyed and even sought out Light’s company. He has incredible control/awareness of his body and picks up physical skills quickly; he has high bursts of energy but tires out. He prefers tennis and martial arts for this reason, as it is one-on-one and has frequent breaks. He’s picked up favorite recipes all over the world for Watari to make as he travels. He’s a mild germophobe and squeaky clean as a tide pod. Won’t wear socks under any amount of bribery or duress, won’t fly commercial airlines. do I like them:

Absolutely, Naomi is my favorite female character! 🖤 It saddens me she wasn't given a larger role in the Death Note arc... it would have been definitely interesting to see her being involved in the Kira Task Force for example - in Another Note, both L and Watari note that Naomi would be someone useful to work with.

Nonetheless, I understand the decision to end her character in the beginning as the storyline evolved in a rather challenging way at that point. Still... her death is shocking.

5 good qualities:

- Honesty

- Physical Strength

Naomi's first name means "straight" and "beautiful," while her last name can mean "south" and "sky."

Her first name fits quite well, as she is an incredibly beautiful woman and she follows a straight path towards her goals without hesitation. I admire her determination, the ability to follow her intuition despite the absence of clear evidence - and here I'm sure, in Another Note, L chose her because they both second-guess everything they're presented with and have high deduction skills. In fact, Misora is the first one going rather close to Kira's identity and representing a source of true danger.

She's a well trained FBI agent as her intelligence and fighting skills are stressed in both manga and novel. Let's note L remembers working with her during the Los Angeles case and has no hesitation in saying what she probably did - going after Kira, no matter how dangerous it is, but it's what her need to find out the truth would suggest doing.

3 bad qualities:

It's not only a combination of bad luck that leads Naomi to her departure... Her bad habit of letting emotions get the better of her clouds her exceptional skills as FBI agent.

Light pinpoints rather quickly her weakness and manipulates it in his favor, using her emotional state to sign her death.

Even if said treat is Naomi's weakest spot, it makes her incredibly human and it's hard not to empathize with her state of mind. She wants the truth, she wants to solve the case, she wants to see who killed her husband, but at the same time, these desperate needs make her reckless.

favourite episode/etc:

Death Note Arc: the scene of her death. The darkest hour descends upon us readers and watchers slowly, aware of what is happening and still amazed by the sudden realization in Naomi's eyes she was tricked and it'stop late to stop Kira... My heart still clenches at the scene of her slowly going away, nowhere to be seen again.

Another Note: There are a lot of scenes that made me cackle... Probably the best ever scene is when she sits L style following Beyond's suggestion, feeling dumb at first, just to realize the position effectively helps her to think clearly 🤣 Or when she compares B with Winnie the Pooh, watching him licking strawberry jam off his fingers... God, there are many hilarious scenes, I couldn't stop laughing 🤣

I'm being rather boring here, but I like the idea she decides to confront Beyond some time later the Los Angeles events.

She spent nights and nights wondering why Beyond set himself on fire, she senses there's more behind the construction of a murderous craziness, she's talked and effectively spent a lot of time with that man to be sure there's a deeper reason behind his actions. It's the first time ever she really wants to understand why a murder killed and it takes all her strength to ask L, who she is still in contact with, where Beyond has been confined after the end of the investigation.

do I like them: I do like Light. A lot actually. The thing that makes me laugh is I was totally on board with Kira until they introduced L. It was when he was willing to kill L (well, Lind L. Tailor) just to stop him from challenging him.

favourite episode/etc: There are a lot of them, but these two always stand out to me.

I always loved this panel. I like to think that shadow is his inner Kira walking with him, encouraging him to continue. You’re the only one that can do it...

I also really love this panel. Amnesia Light reflecting on the possibility of being Kira...and deciding not to discuss Naomi & Raye with L.

otp: Mikalight (although I like him shipped with  a lot of characters, that is my OTP)

Didn’t think his parents would love him for who he actually was.

Liked to sneak out, go to bars & clubs with a fake idea. He wouldn’t get in any real trouble or do anything illegal (except for a little underage drinking), but it felt good to not fit into what was expected of him.

He really did feel guilty at first when he used the Death Note, but that kind of freedom and power was just too delicious to turn his back on.

He knew he was the original Kira during the Yotsuba arc, even though he couldn’t figure out how since his memories were gone. He knew that L wasn’t wrong in his deductions about him and that is why he would get so offended at his accusations.

Mikami’s was his favorite of his disciples. He didn’t need to manipulate him with sex or stroke his ego. Just being chosen by Light was enough to win his devotion. (Even though Mikami viewed him as a God, to Light it meant he accepted Light for who he really was.)
