The oncelers weirdness was not in that he was a tumblr sexyman, it was in the unique fandom behavior around him. They created multiple versions of the same character, and then wrote them interacting. And then proceeded to ship them whether ethical or not. Ethics isnt part of the discussion here anyway, the fact is that it happens

And so i give you

We have fans more invested in our au creations than the source material,

We have crossover aus,

Hell we even have the iconic ask blog aus

The only other character I can think of anything similar happening to is Sans from Undertale and the Undertale fandom has been slowly dying for a few years. But the Legend of Zelda fandom is very much not.
