i feel like people a lot of the time don’t remember that haymitch always had a hand in the rebellion. in the words of suzanne collins, he was always waiting for someone like katniss to come along. that’s what kept him alive all those years after snow murdered his loved ones.
#i mean he probably didn’t expect the two for one deal#or to actually love katniss#let alone peeta#the definition of more bang for your buck#hunger games#thg#haymitch abernathy#sunrise on the reaping#sotr#Katniss everdeen#text post ✨✍🏻🤎#100

Well, i am basically using my tumblr to post one (1) fanart every decade. Fun. But yeah, recently i've got a big fixation on the hunger games and i just had to get this image for this particular moment out of my head into the world Surpised, how this exact (admittedly absolutely heart-wrenching) part of the whole book series stuck with me - and i have a theory. For starters, yes, Peeta's character is literally my favourite, the bread boy is THE boy ever. So obviously it was quite hard (in a good way) to read the books after his dramatic turn... But omfg that's actually such a genius and gut-punching narrative move!!! Seeing his character in this state really makes you miss pre-brainwashing Peeta and better feel what really MADE his character - and not only his!! Katniss starts to understand it too. She recognizes that she is missing the perspective that Peeta had of her, that she took it for granted at a certain point. Katniss feels, that with this loss of Peeta's idea of her, she doesn't have that "loved" part of herself anymore, that she is indeed just a selfish, pragmatic and cruel person focused only on survival. Even if it's not objectively true - for her it's true at the moment because of how dramatic the loss and how drastic the turn Peeta's character took. AND THEY ARE ALL STILL 17 y.o. CHILDREN OMG THAT'S SO SAD IT'S UNREAL. And genius. I was emotionally destroyed and I wanted to keep reading

Imagine thinking this and then spending two more books wondering if you're in love with this person or not.
She doesn't want to lose him, she doesn't want anyone to be watching them when she tells him how she feels, she stops caring if they get food or not even though that is the only reason she was doing this, and she doesn't want to stop kissing him despite her aversion to people she doesn't care about touching her.
Katniss spends the rest of this series straight up gaslighting herself into thinking she isn't in love with him when it's been clear since page 297 that she is head over heels.

I fascinated by the symbolism and imagery of the birds in the hunger games books. It fits the story very well and is actually very poetic.
Therefore, I would like to portray Katniss not only as a mockingjay symbol in a figurative sense of a bird, but also as an actual bird-like fantasy or even mythical creature, straight from a fairy tale. And it may not be a good old fairy tale, but children still need to hear it and learn the lesson.
"The Swan Princess"/ "Tsarevna-Lebed" by Mikhail Vrubel. 1900 and Katniss Everdeen as The Mockingjay
#I have become a very occasional artist but I'm kinda proud of that piece 👀#also remembered that I love the original painting! (an actual fairy tale illustration like painting) and took some inspiration from it#thg#the hunger games#mockingjay#thg fanart#katniss everdeen#thg birds#polly thinks out loud

i'm gonna start being mean. if you have enough understanding for katniss's depression then how are you calling katniss's mom selfish for her response to her husband's death. you do understand what catatonic depression is right? you understand that she didn't purposely abandon her children?
#i would also argue that she didn't even abandon katniss after prim's death but was actually protecting her#sometimes it seems like some people genuinely feel like she didn't love katniss as much as prim which is so...#she was afraid and she knew that if she were to return to 12 everything would repeat again#and yes as a mother she should take care of her daughter but she's also just a woman#how can two sick people take care of each other like literally how???#and maybe she should've tried harder and not focused on the fear BUT I AM REPEATING DEPRESSION IS NOT SOMETHING YOU JUST CHOOSE TO HAVE#the only thing she's certain of is that the possibility of disappointing and hurting katniss is to high to risk it#and there are things to criticize her for surely but i just don't see any of her mistakes being a result of not caring for katniss#or not loving her#that's not it#I WILL PROTECT THIS WOMAN UNTILL THE END OF TIME#thg#everlark

“I had a dream, though,” I say, thinking back. “I was following a mockingjay through the woods. For a long time. It was Rue, really. I mean, when it sang, it had her voice.” “Where did she take you?” he says, brushing my hair off my forehead. “I don’t know. We never arrived.” I say. “But I felt happy.” ... Peeta pulls the chain with the gold disk from around his neck. He holds it in the moonlight so I can clearly see the mockingjay. Then his thumb slides along a catch I didn’t notice before and the disc pops open. It’s not solid, as I had thought, but a locket. And within the locket are photos. […] “Your family needs you, Katniss,” Peeta says. My family. My mother. My sister. And my pretend cousin Gale. But Peeta’s intention is clear. That Gale really is my family, or will be one day, if I live. That I’ll marry him. So Peeta’s giving me his life and Gale at the same time. To let me know I shouldn’t ever have doubts about it. Everything. That’s what Peeta wants me to take from him. ... He puts the chain with the locket around my neck, then rests his hand over the spot where our baby would be. “You’re going to make a great mother, you know,” he says. ... As I drift off, I try to imagine that world, somewhere in the future, with no Games, no Captiol. A place like the meadow in the song I sang to Rue as she died. Where Peeta’s child could be safe. ....
#the hunger games#everlark#eablog gifs#eablog quotes#i always wondered why they didn't make peetas locket have the mockingay like it does in the book#and the design doesnt have any real significance which is frustrating#it vaguely looks like wheat or i thought for a while it was meant to look like the stained glass in the victors village houses#but it doesnt#putting the mockingjay on it does mean something symbolically though#like hes trying to give her the future he thinks she wants and that the rebellion might bring#but ends up also giving her the pearl which she actually cherishes#kind of by accident just because hes thoughtful which is part of why she loves him#its such a good parallel and would have been an easy visual to carry through so weird that they just didnt? for no real apparent reason?#ALSO HE WANTED TO MATCH HER WHICH IS JUST#theyre a teammm#AND the mockingjay means something different for katniss than everyone thinks#and peeta is one of the only people that seems to understand that?#for her it symbolizes family ties not the rebellion#AND HE PUTS IT ON A LOCKET WITH HER FAMILY IN IT#but she really wants to have a family with him not gale so the mockingjay still does symbolize the future and their family#so him giving it to her is significant but not in the way he thinks#AND its like hes reclaiming the mockingjay for her again in some small way when everyone is taking it for themselves and using it#i actually cannot with them

THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY PART 2

no bc think about it. we went from writing about things like violence and love to creating plays about these topics and having actors act them out, which sometimes resulted in the actors suffering quite a bit (for example, the time that some random dude accidentally got stabbed with a real knife during a showing of "othello"). nowadays we have movies with these topics, and many actors go through physical and psychological pain because of what we expect of them and their performances (for example, the girl who played the og dorothy in the wizard of oz, how women and girls in acting are often sexualized, toxic body images, also toxic masculinity in some ways).
the point i'm trying to make is that we, as a society, crave entertainment that incorporates these topics (love, war, sacrifice, grief, assault). and we want that entertainment to feel real. so who's saying, that ten years from now, we don't turn into the society depicted in the hunger games? that we don't force people into situations, because we're sick of acting and want the pain and depression to be real? who's saying that we don't throw people like katniss and peeta into an arena and make them murder each other because we crave real entertainment?
and who's gonna say that we won't enjoy it?

For a series who’s media/pop culture obsession centered so heavily around the supposed ‘love triangle’ aspect- the hunger games movies really cut out most of the books’ actual love story
Like I feel like they cut out almost all of the important moments of katniss and peeta falling in love from the books and *for what*?? (like we could’ve gotten them being all oblivious/crushing on each other before the first arena, all that time in the cave, ofc all those moments in d12 before the quarter quell announcement, their picnic on the roof before the quarter quell, THE BOOK, I could go on)
Bc the hunger games *is* (among other things ofc) a love story- so why not emphasize it in the movies?? I mean they clearly wanted to bank on the romance element why not do it right
#everlark#the hunger games#peeta mellark#katniss everdeen#and why tf did they invent those extra Gale kisses he’s not even an actual love interest#forever mad they did everlark so dirty in the movies#why do I feel like the movies kinda forget these two are cannononically in love with each other this *whole* time smh

After the first Games (CF Chapter 1)
I hunt. He bakes. Haymitch drinks. We have our own ways to stay busy, to keep thoughts of our time as contestants in the Hunger Games at bay.
After the War (MJ Chapter 27)
We learn to keep busy again. Peeta bakes. I hunt. Haymitch drinks until the liquor runs out, and then raises geese until the next train arrives.
#The first one is at the beginning of CF - they’re isolated going through the motions in a holding pattern#The second is at the end of MJ - this one gives the feeling of healing and forward movement#In the first instance they don’t actually need to do the thing#In the second they’re actions are seemingly feeding the hundreds who return to the district - 🍞 🥩 🥚#love when lines repeat but with different meanings#symmerty#first chapter of book 1 and last chapter of book 3#thg#Mockingjay#catching fire#the hunger games#the victors of district 12#katniss everdeen#peeta mellark#haymitch abernathy
