Taking a look at the Marvel Legends Animated Doctor Octopus, based on the ‘90s cartoon. This design has always been something of a fan favorite, so it’s pretty cool to see them make a modern figure of it.

While I’m not sure if this is my favorite Doc Ock design, I do think it’s the most toyetic. It makes for such a cool looking action figure. I love the sculpt all around here, it matches the cartoon quite well while still keeping the overall aesthetic in-line with the rest of Marvel Legends. In particular, that headsculpt captures Otto perfectly to me.

Articulation is solid, but obviously the shoulder pads are a bit restrictive. Not helped by the gummy plastic they used, which is easily my biggest complaint with this guy. The arms (regular arms, not tentacles) feel quite rubbery and I’m afraid the bicep pegs might not hold up from repeated posing. Those bicep pegs are always the biggest problem spot on ML I find.

The tentacles themselves are actually bendy this time, so that’s cool! For those too lazy to do the metal tentacle mod, this is the Doctor Octopus for you. They can support his weight, but it’s a very tricky thing to balance and you need all four to hold him up.* They’re tight going into the sockets, but they sit kinda loosely so they swivel easily. Still, bendy wires have advantages that metal ones can’t achieve. Most notably, the bendy ones are easier to wrap around the figure and put into all kinds of spiral-like poses, so I think this Ock looks best standing on his own two feet with the tentacles all coiled and warped around him.

All in all, I’ve had my complaints, but I really REALLY like this toy. It looks great and moves pretty well too. If you’ve missed out on previous Ocks or just didn’t want to deal with those static tentacles, then this one comes highly recommended.

How do you make your mood boards? I don’t have an artistic bone in my body, so I don’t really draw my characters. Pfp isn’t my art, just my ocs haha.

Anyway some of it is a time/laziness issue. But like, I feel like I could do a mood board.

And I was wondering how you make them, because they’re so pretty ??? Every time I see one of your mood boards—instant dopamine. The colors and 🥺

Sorry for just popping in your ask box, but I was wondering like where do you find pictures, what program you use, stuff like that.

(Also sorry if this is a basic question. I literally have zero experience with any sort of art that’s not writing)

Hi! Don’t apologize, I’m always open for questions like this ^^ (also thanks for the compliment!)

So, making moodboards is pretty easy actually! The secret is finding fitting pictures and a good app to make a collage out of it

Let’s start with the pictures.

I gotta (shamefully) admit that for my latest moodboards I took most of the pictures off of Pinterest (which is always my last choice, but I ran out of good pics and tbh? Everyone else does it and I’m not using it to make money or whatever so I guess I’m fine)

But usually I use sites with free to use pictures like unsplash and pexels. There all you have to do is look for and download the pictures you need. Just type in search words that fit to the character/world you aim for.

I don’t know if you need it, but here’s some things I look for when I make OC moodboards:

a face claim / prominent feature of my character (hair, eyes, whatever)

their favorite color or just one you associate with them

maybe also a texture, like wood or leaves or clouds

the character’s hobby or things they adore (yes this includes food)

everything you associate with them tbh: animals and plants, maybe even an element

symbolism, so things that are important to them or make out a part of their personality (see: a crown as symbol for an OC who’s a queen)

jewelry or clothes they would wear

I personally don’t use this one too often but many people also use fitting quotes

(For me it’s also important to stick to a color scheme and make it all fit together aesthetically, but that’s probably a weird quirk of mine and honestly everyone should do what they prefer. If you rather have it colorful or just want to go with the vibes, go for it!)

Choose as many pictures as you like. Personally I use between five and nine (nine only if I make a “classy” moodboard), but like I said, that’s up to you.

By the way, moodboards aren’t just great for characters but also for character groups, story locations and just story vibes in general (I know you know that already, I just felt like mentioning it ^^)

Okay so now you have all your pictures, but how to turn them into a moodboard?

I do all my moodboards on my phone/tablet, so I use apps to put them together. There’s plenty of collage apps you can use, or just any picture editing app with a collage option (I think most have them).

Just search for “collage”or “photo collage” in your app store and you’ll find many apps you can download for free.

Now to find a good app that fits your needs is up to you and probably requires you to try out different apps to find the one that is best for you.

Some only let you do before mentioned “classic” collages (you know those 3x3 pics that are simply next to each other, like a grid), but there’s also ones with more unique layouts you can use.

I recommend the latter because it gives you more options and makes the moodboard more interesting, but again, just a personal opinion.

I don’t know if it’s available for you, but I use an app called InCollage (it’s only for android though, I think). If you don’t want to use apps I’m sure there’s online programs for these kind of things as well.

And when you found the right pictures and your preferred collage app to use, all that’s left to do is create the moodboard!

Throw all the pictures in a collage and rearrange them however you like. Choose a layout of your liking and a fitting background. I usually go with a color/texture that matches the pictures or my OC’s color. And that’s it!

It can take quite some time to find the right pictures and arrangement (my personal record is spending three hours on a moodboard xD) but it’s really quite simple! And so much fun too!

So that was my (admittedly way too long - sorry for that) guide. I hope I was able to help and wish you lots of fun creating your own moodboards! :)

I'm going to listen to that tomorrow when I finally have a day off! Mood Tattoo has so much social media and it's all saved in different files so I can't even begin to think about what might make the best cover image aldkfjadf. But this is the pic that was used for every chapter banner:

The tension in Mood Tattoo was truly the thing I had to get right. Doing a hate-love kind of story just requires sizzling tension or the rest doesn't work. So glad it came across!

And yesssss the social media was my fave. Particularly tattooed Lucas!!! I'm not amazing at photoshop tbh but I have improved through the fics I've written and in the tackling of the social media. So I would definitely say there are a couple of the tattoo edits of Lucas that remain my absolute crowning achievements in fic social media edits. (Also if Axel got a tattoo sleeve RIP me... he would look so damn good).

Idriss and Manon!!! I seriously have written them so much now they have become canon in my head (and honestly it would have made a better story if they had been). Their story started in my Hollow Edge story and then I made myself so attached to them that I have to include them in each story, even if it's just a hint of them 😂. Like, beyond the fact that I enjoy writing their characters together, just the idea of the aesthetics of them together???? Yes. Yes, that would work well. And Idriss and Eliott's friendship is much the same. I legit forget that we were ROBBED of that in the show because I've written their friendship so extensively in so many stories. But I just adore them and I adore writing their friendship. I put Idriss through it in some ridiculous ways in my stories (poor guy 😂) but it's only because I love him so much!

YO HEY SO I ACTUALLY GOT OFF MY BUTT AND MADE THESE KIDS SOMETHING FOR VALENTINE’S DAY

So I’ve been wanting to make a Jackunzel Valentine’s-style aesthetic using that center pic for a while now (because it is just so absolutely Rapunzel, and who better to win her heart than our very own Jack Frost???), and I was like “well, it’s the February special anyways, so why not?” BUT then I couldn’t fit all the pictures I wanted to use into one moodboard, so y’all boutta get two more of these bad boys!!!

Decided to try a primarily blue-and-pink aesthetic again for this particular moodboard! Added in some gold-ish accents because I just think it looks neat :D Honestly I already knew that Jackunzel with a blue-and-pink color scheme absolutely hits, but I had no idea how much Jackunzel with a blue, pink, and gold color scheme would ALSO hit :O

My dumb cheesy headcanon that I will not let anyone take away is that that Rapunzel absolutely adores pink heart-shaped things, and for this reason is far too big a fan of Valentine’s day XD

Also yes!!! Those are glow-in-the-dark moon and star stickers! Just seems like the type of wacky little things Jack and Punz would be into :D

YO, so remember last year when I made that purple-themed Jackunzel aesthetic, because purple is lowkey their theme color??? (I mean...combine Jack’s blue color scheme with Rapunzel’s pink color scheme and that’s what you get, right?) I liked the purple aesthetic so much I was like...what if I made another??? What then???

Actually really happy with the way this one turned out!!! I might actually like it better than the other purple one I made, and that was already one of my favorites :O Just!!! The purple snowflake!!! The galaxy cupcakes!!! The lilacs!!! Literally the most gorgeous purple night sky pic I’ve ever stumbled upon!!! The ridiculously appropriate quotes!!! It’s like the stars aligned (no pun intended, heh heh) for me to make the ideal Jackunzel moodboard, apparently??? Wild.

Although I’ll have all of you know that I actually had to do quite a bit of editing and color-adjusting on the Rapunzel pic here because the girl was originally platinum blonde, and I had to make extra sure that no one thought this was a J/elsa moodboard XD

So I accidentally ended up thinking up this big complicated AU for this post I saw a while back, AND I haven’t posted Moanida in a hot minute, so...it’s moodboard time!!!

Basically this is in an AU where Motunui is actually a fairly sizeable kingdom instead of a small island village...and Moana really is a princess here XD I imagine maybe the village grew larger and larger because Motunui was taking refugees from the other islands as the Great Darkness was consuming the land. There’s an ever-present sense of dread, and King Tui worries his kingdom’s days are numbered. He tries to proceed Business as Usual, though, not wanting to cause a mass panic among the people. Fortunately, the darkness and disease plaguing the seas has not yet reached Motunui, and food is plentiful. King Tui hopes they’ll be safe for a while yet.

Princess Moana’s whole life has been planned out for her--marry someone of high standing, produce an heir, someday take her father’s throne. She longs more than anything for adventure on the seas, and to save her kingdom from the encroaching darkness. She also finds herself yearning for meaningful connections outside her family, unsatisfied with the distant and formal relationship she has with the palace staff and her subjects. So many seem to other her due to her royal status, and she sometimes feels completely alone--even in a kingdom that reveres her. No one sees her as she is--not Princess Moana, daughter of King Tui, heir to Motunui, but merely Moana of Motunui.

As the darkness spreads, more refugees come in, and the kingdom grows. Fish aren’t as easy to come by as they once were, and resources grow tight as the mouths to feed increase.

Enter Merida.

It’s no surprise that as the kingdom grows, so does the criminal underbelly. When finery and jewelry from the palace begin to go missing, King Tui and Queen Sina wonder if the staff are in cahoots with someone unsavory. Upon searching the servants’ quarters, though, there is no evidence of any robbery or foul play.

When Moana starts seeing flashes of red out of the corner of her eye, and just out of reach around castle corridors, she thinks she’s imagining things. That is, until she walks into a drawing room and sees a scraggly redheaded girl in filthy street clothes attempting to climb out a 3rd-story window. In her scramble to escape, the intruder breaks the outside tree limb she was attempting to climb onto, and Moana hears a number of branches snapping and cursing in some strange, singsong accent. Both intrigued and amused, Moana runs to the floor below to make sure this poor unprepared thief doesn’t fall to her death.

Moana finds her hanging on a lower limb for dear life, tunic even more ripped and mouth spewing profanities that the princess is sure would make her blush--well, if she could understand any of them. Still laughing, she extends a hand to help the thief in through a lower window. The thief swats her arm away the first few attempts, but finally grabs her hand when the branch starts creaking a little too much.

Apparently this girl is so far into the criminal underworld that she has no idea who Moana is. The thief can tell she’s important--not everyone walks around in glimmering red-orange dresses and shiny shell and pearl-studded tiaras. She’s nobility of some kind for sure. But not a princess.

Regardless of her noble status, the thief girl has no interest in groveling, or begging Moana’s forgiveness. She’s quick to pull a weapon on the princess--a lethal-looking bow and arrow whose bad side Moana does not want to be on. The thief girl assures her that she’ll “shoot yeh right in yer pretty face if yeh even think about shoutin’!” Moana can’t hold back her laugh, and assures the thief she has no intention of shouting. Not when this is the most interesting thing that’s happened in months. Maybe even years--the castle has certainly never had thieves this brazen.

Moana takes the thief girl to her room to get her cleaned up; her parents are too busy managing the kingdom to pay much attention to what she’s doing, anyways. She puts her in cleaner servants’ clothes and finds a cloak to conceal her hair before sneaking her out a back door, extending an invitation to come visit sometime. The castle could do without a few pearls, Moana figures--that, and the thrill of abetting a criminal could make her princess life a little less dull.

Besides, meeting someone who has no idea who she is is a gift too precious to waste.

And so Moana takes to “accidentally” leaving many a palace window open, and many a door unlocked. Sure enough, the thief girl comes back--although she claims it’s only because Moana is “a wee soft little lamb who makes thievin’ far too easy!” Nonetheless, she’s quick to tell her story after little resistance.

Merida, Moana finds out her name is. She’s been on the run a long time--how long she won’t say, but from the rugged, toughened state of the girl, Moana imagines it’s plenty long enough for her to harden her edges and teach her how to take care of herself. She claims she doesn’t need anyone--and never has--but from the way she’s more than willing to have heart-to-hearts with a near stranger, Moana doubts that. It must be lonely in the thief world--always watching your back and never being sure someone won’t stab you in it. Moana gathers Merida has deemed her naïve enough to trust.

Moana is hardly naïve, but if that’s what it takes to believe she’s worth opening up to...so be it.

Merida, it turns out, is a runaway from a kingdom far, far away--oceans away, even. She never felt at home there. She always felt like she was being twisted into something she wasn’t--made to fit an image, with no one caring who she actually was. She took off, flitting from place to place. She pickpocketed enough to eat until Wanted posters of her adorned every wall in town--and only then would she vanish without a trace, off to change her name and her backstory for her next grand adventure.

Moana has a feeling that Merida isn’t making up the backstory this time, but she doesn’t say as much.

After a while, Moana admits her own malcontent. The kingdom only continues to grow as her parents do nothing about the encroaching darkness that leaves so many homeless in the first place. She tells of her strange connection with the ocean, and how sometimes the waves themselves would part for her as a child. She talks about how badly she wishes she could help, and how a strange green emblem from her late grandmother Queen Tala might be the key to everything.

Maybe it’s terrible to think, but Moana finds herself wanting to inherit the throne sooner. She really thinks she could do some good, and she’s determined to conquer the darkness and save the kingdom. Merida, she finds, could be a surprisingly big help--she’s tough, she can fight like no one’s business, and she’s lived among the downtrodden and destitute in the slums and knows firsthand the kind of life more and more will be condemned to if something is not done about the darkness. She’d make an excellent bodyguard, and could even help with law-making and battle strategy--she’s politically savvy in a way Moana didn’t expect.

Things shift between them after a while. There are more and more stolen touches during their meetings, more physical affection. Moana finds herself looking at Merida for longer than she means to. Merida brings her gifts and trinkets from the seedier markets royals don’t usually go to--tiny, pretty seashells, wildflowers from hidden crevices, knives that are usually considered “improper” for a young princess to use.

For the first time since Queen Tala--perhaps for the first time ever--Moana feels like someone sees her for who she truly is. Not a princess, not some otherworldly, ethereal authority to be worshipped, but just Moana.

And when Merida inevitably learns the truth of who her new luxuriously-clothed friend is, Moana is surprised to see she barely bats an eye. She shrugs, says “yeh, I figured you were someone important, from the way yeh dress like a fancypants. But yer not some self-righteous snob like the rest of them, so ah like yeh.”, and then moves on like nothing happened.

By the time Moana realizes she’s fallen in love, the palace staff have gathered there’s something suspicious about the princess sneaking out the back door as often as she does. Moana was just starting to be less cautious when King Tui walks in on her and Merida kissing.

The king is furious. No princess should grow feelings for a dirty peasant--and a criminal, at that. Although Merida is spared the noose, she is exiled from the island for good, given a ship and told to never return.

Before the thief is sent away, Moana is allowed one goodbye. Merida vows to come back one day--despite what Tui says--with her ship stuffed with treasure. She’s gotten a fruitful tip from the criminal underworld, and if all goes as planned, they should be able to buy the kingdom for themselves. Then, no one can stop them from being together--and, at last, conquering the creeping shadows.

In her absence, Moana writes Merida songs. Crude, scrawled haphazardly on palm paper, but full of heart. She shoves them into corked glass bottles before sneaking out and dropping them into the sea. Maybe they’ll never reach Merida...but then again, maybe they will.

The days without Merida drag, and Moana has never felt more alone. Nonetheless, she has faith that her love will return with riches, and the two of them will take the throne and save the land, just as they’ve always planned.

No officer you don’t understand I HAD to make a Fem!Jack x Rapunzel Sun Gay and Moon Gay Aesthetic, I didn’t have a choice, it was required by law, someone simply might have chosen to press criminal charges if I didn’t--

Basic story here is that Jaina Frost and Rapunzel Corona are some kind of sun and moon princesses who rule over the night and the day, respectively. They only see each other briefly, at sunrise and sunset, but it’s enough time for them to talk, flirt, and fall for each other. Of course, them spending too much time together could mess up the earth’s day and night cycles, so their beleaguered heavenly body parents have to think of some way to manage their hormonal and lovestruck daughters so as not to throw off seasonal daylight changes and Daylight Saving’s Time and other such important things.

ALSO solar eclipses are Jaina and Punz smooching actually, I don’t make the rules.

I’ve had this bad boy saved in my Jackunzel aesthetics folder for a while now (yes, I have shipping aesthetics folders--I may have a sliiiiiight problem ^^;), but I didn’t submit it until this month because you really can’t get much more soulmate-y than Sun and Moon Lesbians! Something something they’re tied by cosmic fate, heavenly body motifs, and the Power of Gay

Okay listen I know Rapunzel and Cassandra also count as Sun and Moon Gay but Rapunzel and Fem!Jack were the OG Sun and Moon Gay and honestly I think they just Do It Better

Well anyways there was simply no way I could go an entire Jackunzel event without my girl Jaina Frost making an appearance!!! Genderbent Jack Frost my beloved ;_____; I’ve already kinda messed around with the idea of Lesbian Jackunzel here and here and here but you know what??? WHAT UP @ohlooksheswriting HAVE AN INDIRECT CONTRIBUTION TO HICCUNZEL MONTH

SO I think my main reservation about shipping romantic Hiccunzel has always been the fact that I stan Hiccanna and Jackunzel so hard, like. I simply cannot look at Rapunzel x Hiccup and NOT go “but what of Jack and Anna??? Are they now fated to not find true love??? They’re gonna be so sad D:”

So the obvious solution all along was to have Hiccup and Rapunzel date Anna, Jack, AND each other, EZ

And HiJack and Annunzel are pretty solid gay ships, so like??? It kinda WORKS???

And thus the RotBTD discord came up with Hijannunzel, which might well be the most blursed ship in existence XD Legit poly ships are too powerful. Once you start shipping them, it’s like “oh, this solves SO many problems??? And also if they all got married and got a tax break they’d be OP as hell??? And having a 3-way support system of awesome people to kiss and cuddle and hang out with would be SICK???”

ANYWAYS! I decided to style this so that I put a thing I think each pair would bond over between their pictures because I think it’d be neat!!!

Rapunzel & Hiccup: Art!!! He sketches, she paints, and they definitely draw each other and nerd out over different art styles together!!! Catch them on an art museum date any day. They’ve also definitely made art of each other, and the rest of the polycule. Rapunzel & Jack: Outdoorsy winter fun!!! Like Rapunzel is literally ALWAYS down for a gigantic, Extra snowball fight and you can’t change my mind. Punz just really likes being outside (I mean, she was locked inside for years, can you blame her???) and appreciates all the seasons, but like...overappreciates winter because she figures it could use the love XD Anna & Jack: Sweets!!! I am 1000% convinced both these kids are sugar junkies. Anna has a preference for chocolate obviously, but Jack will devour anything with a sugar content Tooth would absolutely not approve of. They also both adore hot cocoa, and you can’t change my mind. Anna & Hiccup: Dragons/animals in general!!! Anna’s such an animal whisperer in Frozen 1, like. She gets three ducklings to jump into her hands, befriends Hans’ horse, vents to her own horse, and sees a guy talking to his reindeer like a buddy and just immediately starts doing the same thing. Ain’t no one convincing me Anna wouldn’t think dragons were the coolest shit ever, and she would try to (perhaps unwisely) befriend every single one.

Couldn’t include in this one, BUT ALSO:

Jack & Hiccup: Flying and thrill-seeking!!! Like they both seem to be hardcore adrenaline junkies, if Jack letting the wind blow him around every which way and Hiccup literally inventing a funky winged device so he can fly with Toothless is anything to go by. These two would really love flying and exploring together! The adventures AND the poor decisions would be unparalleled XD Rapunzel & Anna: Flower appreciation!!! They both dun got big springtime vibes, and would probably be constantly picking wildflower bouquets for each other. I feel like they’d get into gardening, and try to befriend all the pollinator bugs--even the scary ones XD Love that they both have floral motifs, and Anna’s is a sunflower while Rapunzel’s is...a literal sun flower XD Also love the idea of them bonding over girly stuff in general, and doing things like dress-shopping and meadow-frolicking together :D

Anyways, they all share an apartment and have movie and video game nights where they all get into a cuddle pile on the couch and it’s wholesome and fantastic. They also like to crash fancy parties paired off and then stage dramatic “reveals” where they get caught cheating on each other and make a whole production out of it, solely to be chaotic. Also to snack on fancy little cheese blocks on toothpicks and crostini. Have a great rest of your night.

Eden!

technically theyre two subunits, Adam and Eve, and they combine to create Eden. Eve is the two on the left, while Adam is the two on the right. I'm not gonna mention the characters but oh my goddd they sure are! characters! Eden was the antagonists for the second half of the anime. Their songs are kinda more rocky and very risque which is funny considering the biblical allegories

Valkyrie! The best unit ever!

Their aesthetic is a very steampunk one and they have a very unique sound i love love love their songs. theyre all very artistic and not at all idol like

Their style is the most electro of the units its like synth pop. The pink one is Hinata and the blue one is Yuuta theyre literally the trans colors

2020 was, i think we can all agree, a massively chaotic year but i have never consumed as much media before in my life, so i thought others might benefit from my slothery uh, connoisseur.... ship?  yes, that.  below are the books, comics, shows, and movies that got me through!

B O O K S .

the starless sea, by erin morgenstern - i loooove this book because it loves me back.  it says: ‘oh, you’re a reader, well i have just the thing for you.’  it luxuriates in language and story and riddles and fairy tales and it feels like an entire library in a single tome.

they never learn, by layne fargo - oh fuuuuuck, this was satisfying.  i thought it might feel a little exploitative as it is very aware of the zeitgeist and likely would not exist without the #metoo movement but it never ever did.  this was a fucking ROMP, period.  reading about a woman getting away with murdering skeezy guy after rapey guy after shitty human just made me happier and happier.

moonflower murders, by anthony horowitz - this is the second in the susan ryeland series (and the first was hardcore good fun too) and really feels very classic mystery with the artful twist of catering to the literary community.  mainly because: susan isn’t a detective, she’s an editor and she gets drafted in this time because the clue to what happened to a missing woman is in a book she edited, if she can find it.  both of the books in this series have such an excellent coming together moment that is rare af to find.

the invisible life of addie larue, by v.e. schwab - the writing in this is just so good.  it has that feel to me where i just want to drop the book and open up my own page and let my fingers fly.  it’s that inspiring kind of writing that reminds you of all the things language can do.

crown of feathers/heart of flames, by nicki pau preto - aaahhh, this series is SO FREAKING GOOD!  why is there not more of a fandom for it, why???? it is so many of my favorite tropes all resting perfectly together to the point where you almost forget they’re tropes because they just so naturally evolved there.  ugh, it’s just.... it’s so heart-bursty good.

.... number 5, part 2?  raybearer, by jordan ifueko - this was just so original and i was invested af.  like, what a brilliant idea though and an even better execution??  i loved every character and am so looking forward to the next in the series so i can get to know them even better!!

cosmoknights, by hannah templer - the art was gorgeous, the gayness was glorious, and just.... hot HOOOOOOOOT lady knights in space?!  a princess winning her own hand?  find something not to love in there, i dare you.

don’t go without me, by rosemary valero-o’connell - wow. wow wow wow wow wow.  the writing was stunning, so lyrical and atmospheric and deep, and rosemary has to be one of my favorite artists but even that managed to come as a beautiful surprise because it was just so freaking bold.

through the woods, by emily carroll - i loooove emily carroll, the convergence of spine-tingling horror and art that feeds into it, that is both visually and aesthetically pleasing, is hard to beat!  p.s. i also read beneath the dead oak tree from her this year and it was also a BANGER.

the impending blindness of billie scott, by zoe thorogood - zoe is someone that i just want to follow.  she’s just starting and i want to be there for every single step.  i love her art style and her ability to tell a story with it.

above the clouds, by melissa pagluica - this was so unique, and such a baller concept, as nearly half the entire book is conveyed only through the art and yet you’re never once lost, never once confused as to what any character is thinking or feeling.  it’s a story within a story and only one of those gets words though they both are chock full of emotion!

um.... number 5, part 2? crowded, by christopher sebela - everything about this series is fun af.  crowd-funded assassination and a hirable bodyguard who’s rated like an uber driver???  and the chemistry between the two mains is so great and gay!!

parasite, dir. bong joon ho - oh it was satisfying, oh it was suspenseful, oh i had to watch some of it through my fingers but i loooooooved it.  such a good story and so well made.

knives out, dir. rian johnson - okay, everything about this movie was amazing.  every single character was fun as hell and i could’ve watched an entire movie about each of them.  what a great fucking mystery!

blindspotting, dir. carlos lopez estrada -  this made my heart hurt so damn much.  what glorious writing, acting, and story!

black sails (2014) - this show, this shooooooooow.  i cannot, it just makes me want to cry with how good it is.  the characters, the EMOTIONS, the story, the plaaaaaan.  like, the creators clearly had a plan for every single step of this show and it was a gOOD, GOOD PLAN.

the untamed (2019) - truly, cheesy good fun with one of the best gay romances ever.  i love these characters and their relationships to each other and the way it glories in its own ridiculousness.

the righteous gemstones (2019) - one of the things that bothered me about my next choice (the ratio of female to male nudity) was so much more realistic in this one (i mean, we’ve all gotten five thousand dick pics and i know like three people?  so the fact that there is so rarely male nudity in shows when there are tits everywhere..... no, how does that even make a tiny bit of sense?).  this show was such great, wonderful, awful fun.  they’re not great people and the show is under no delusion about that and it’s GLORIOUS!

the witcher (2019) - this was just hella fun, i loved the characters and the fantasy elements.  i’m excited for the next season, it’s just entertaining swashbuckling through and through!

fargo (2014) - all of this was really very enjoyable with the through line being somebody fucks shit up and gets involved in something they really shouldn’t be involved in that’s going to swallow them whole.  season one and season three were my stand-out favorites but they were all so violent, clever, and vicious!

um.... number 5, part 2? central park (2020) - um..... so many of the hamilton actors in a muscial cartoon drawn and written by the bob’s burgers team? WHAT ABOUT THAT DOESN’T SOUND AMAZING?!  it was such a joy to hear daveed diggs and leslie odom jr.’s voices again!!

Top 5 Movies you saw this year

wow tbh I didn’t watch many movies this year as I realized yesterday when I was thinking about this for certain reasons. Or at least I feel like I didn’t watch that many? Nothing really stuck with me it seems.

Because of this, I will only mention two: Parasite and The Old Guard. Those were both wonderful in their own ways and I’m very happy I got to watch them both ^^

Top 5 TV shows you watched this year

this one is difficult bc I watched so many (and forgot even more?) but:

The Lost Tomb Reboot (my introduction to DMBJ. this drama stole my heart and helped me through the tough autumn semester!) 

Joy of Life (it’s nuts that this happened during 2020? it feels like it was ages ago)

Kingdom (such a positive surprise and I really hope we get more of this :o I really recommend!)

Detective L (easy, nice aesthetics, amazing costumes. Bai Yu was a delight as Luo Fei)

Sand Sea (I am still baffled by how much I loved this bc I had so many doubts? am happy I did tho)

Bonus: Guardian (bc it has come to stay and the rewatch has been so emotional but so rewarding)

Top 5 songs of 2020

this is a tough one too bc I’ve heard so much new music during 2020 but I will try to put it simply:

Black Swan by BTS (I absolutely adore this song. I listened to it on repeat when it came out at the beginning of the year, I have cried for it a ton, I enjoy every stage I see for it and it’s just a masterpiece. it has also helped a bit with my writing struggles that I’ve felt creeping up on me lately)

Always by By The Coast (an amazing song that always leaves me in my feels. inspires me a lot all the time)

Love me or Leave me by DAY6 (this whole album was a masterpiece and I listened to it on loop for like. two weeks? this was my favorite song on it even if I adored the rest too, especially Zombie)

all of my life by Park Won (listened to this a lot in relation to my xicheng and the wedding I finally got to write for them ;; that’s one good thing that came out of this year tbh)

雨人 by 刘畅 (Liu Chang) (with the Reboot’s ending song, this one is my favorite on that ost. I love Liu Chang’s voice, I loved Liu Sang as a character and as I said, I loved Reboot as a drama. I get super emotional about this ost so I think it defined this year a lot for me)

joined mdzsnet and met all the amazing ppl there and got to become part of this loving community and :’) I’m so thankful, it’s been a joy

learned more about editing? or started doing it regularly. I still can’t do shit but am having fun learning more all the time and I really hope that maybe the upcoming year I can switch to PS and try out giffing?

went to Halsey’s concert! it was in february so a bit before all the hassle with covid happened over here ;; it was super cool and so nice and I just. I love Halsey

fell into the DMBJ hellhole which am very much enjoying. it’s a great universe and the story is so good and the dramas have been so fun to watch and. it feels like a good continuation to The Untamed somehow haha (also brought me a new friend! you’re amazing ashen!! ♥)

started therapy and it’s been... a journey. but towards something better I think? it’s something I would’ve needed ages ago but it’s better late than never I suppose

1. first creation and most recent creation of 2020: wow it’s been a while since I’ve looked at this horrible creation but here ya go jkdhgk [x]. I’ve come a long way from this (and my xicheng has come a long way from this too). most recent one is this xiaoge edit that I absolutely adore [x]. 

2. one of your favorite creations from 2020: this wwx edit that was part of my agust d2 edit series [x]. I loved to give him blue instead of his typical red. 

3. a new style you tried this year and a gifset edit that uses it: this [x] wwx edit which I don’t know if I like or not but I was playing around with the font and all the effects instead of just normal screenshots + coloring. also I just adore the quote. 

4. a creation to be proud of: I could mention that xiaoge here but in addition, I will also say this wu xie edit for reboot [x]. I managed to capture my vision so well, I was surprised. for cql, this songxiao edit [x]. I loved how it turned out in the end. 

5. a creation that took forever: this wangxian edit [x]. like I’ve said several times, I lost sleep bc of it. I just kept struggling with the third pic and how to place the text there D: 

6. your creation from 2020 that received the most notes: this lwj/wangxian edit [x]. I had many ideas for this edit when I first started making it and I never managed to capture my vision in the way I first intended... the pictures I was supposed to use just never fit quite right sigh. I dunno why it was this one that gained all the notes in the end bc I personally think I have better ones too but am still thankful :’D 

7. a creation you think deserved more notes: as said, dmbj fandom on tumblr is very small so I really want to say the two already mentioned ones (wu xie and xiaoge) and then my pingxie edits [x] [x]. also these wwx edits which I personally am very happy about [x] [x]. and from my agust d2 series, this yun bros one [x].

Writing is work

As some of you might have noticed, I decided to quit writing fic.

As a part of the process, I emptied my WIP folder, editing some existing fragments of drafts into a readable form and posting them on my ao3 account under a separate writer pseudonym (I don't really get how useful the side pseuds are tbh, it still shows your main pseud and the works are listed together, but I still created one.)

These works are prime examples of the distinction between the part of writing that is purely for self-indulgent fun and the part of writing that is sit-on-your-ass-and-grind-it work.

The posted drafts are the part that is fun. The part that inspired me to start, the part that amused and excited me.

You can see it exceptionally clearly in the 830-word hockey RPF Music AU Crawdaddy (link to a locked fic on Ao3; I will cross-post the fic on Tumblr later and add a link to that.)

It has all the fun parts: The aesthetic vibe that inspired it. The beginning from the POV's of two different characters because I couldn't decide. Description of my favorite character. A handful of lines of dialogue and fragments of scenes that made me smile when I got the idea and wanted write it down.

It's a little like a movie trailer, or a synopsis: you get the overall idea and the gist of the story but it is not a complete story.

What is lacking is the writing that would be work, a whole lot of words (at least 3K, perhaps 4K - 5K) that would make it a story:

Some backstory, why are Pekka and Juuse a duo, maybe some context for the title: is Crawdaddy the name of their duo, was it the name of Pekka's former band, is it the name of one of their gig venues? Or is it just a label, do we need an explanation?

The emotional plot, relationship development. Is this a friends to lovers story? Or established relationship? Or almost-gen, with a hint of a slow-burn friends-to-lovers ending? Show, don't tell: situations with Sebastian that lead to Juuse's suspicions and jealousy.

The overall plot. How does Pekka's accident happen? Who is Josi and why are they arguing with him over money? What happens with Pekka's drinking? Does it need to be solved within this story? Does it need more plot, more scenes, to show the strain and the rush of touring?

A whole lot of research, how would the kind of accident that I write be dealt with? Is the hand-wavy way it is now enough? Language check! Am I using the right words and idioms: check, double-, triple check, do I need a native beta?

Of course, it is enjoyable work because writing is my favorite way of creating, but it is work, time-consuming, brain-possessing. Of course, the grid-it-out part is present in all hobbies - sports, art, music. I don't mean that writing should be devoid of it.

But, you know, someday some writer somewhere comes to the conclusion that hey, I'm not going to invest all of that into this anymore. I have already proved to myself that I can bring a complete story to conclusion.

Why do it again and again when there is another option? I can just as well choose to cherry-pick the fun: headcanon and chatfic with friends on DMs, daydream, collect pics for moodboards I will never have to show anyone. As means of fandom connection, it is just as valid and just as rewarding (in relation to the trouble, maybe even more rewarding.)

I wrote and posted over 60 complete stories before my decision to stop. A ton of great writers, more talented and skilled than I could ever have aspired to be, keep carrying the torch, producing fic for our enjoyment and entertainment.

I really enjoyed this series, because it had a lot of angst but it also had a happy ending (even though it wasn’t the one people may have wanted).

the ghost of suite 613

This was so fun to write!! I loved Suite Life of Zack and Cody growing up, and this episode scared me so much when I was little. Finding a way to incorporate all of the different people in the friend group was so interesting, and I think I did pretty well since it was a last-minute decision to write it for Halloween 😂

the ethics of influencing

Not exactly a creative work, but I really enjoyed the finished product here. There’s a lot of influencers who don’t use their influence well, and I think this is quite evident over the course of the pandemic and the many obstacles we’ve encountered. 

cultish behavior

This fic didn’t get a lot of love, but it’s one of my favorites. It was really fun trying to capture Jake’s personality and incorporate the prompt into the story, and I think it turned out really well in the end!

i hope 

Another fic I decided to do last minute and I was really in my emotions when I did it 😂 In case you haven't noticed, I’m a slut for some good ole angst and this really scratched an itch I had. I’m not really a fan of fics where someone cheats but is forgiven + taken back, so I wanted to write something where the reader actually gave Colby a piece of her mind and I think it turned out good!

Oh this was so fun to make! I loved this scene in Eclipse, and I was on a serious Twilight kick at the time so I just had to make this into a gifset! It was difficult trying to figure out where to place the text and all that, but I’m really proud of what I made!

Honestly, all of the Scooby Doo moodboards were great but this is probably my favorite! It was fun to make, and I really enjoyed how in Paradise Island, they joked that Colby was Fred, so it made me feel really good about making Colby Fred (I bounced between Colby being Velma and Sam being Fred, but ultimately did it the other way around.)

do you have any lone star or 911 blog suggestions? i just ditched me 911 side blog and started tumblr life fresh with a whole new main blog, so i'm looking for new people to follow, also do you have any suggestions for just getting involved in the fandom altogether?

Hello! I do have some suggestions, but I will warn you, my list is pretty limited because it’s very hard to find good 911 Lone Star blogs because many are multifandom and harder to discover. Anyway, all the more reason to share what I have.

It’s exciting that you’ve broken from your side blog. I will be stuck here as a side blog forever, which can be limiting, so I’m glad you’ve made the switch. 

I tried to focus on blogs that have recent and consistent 911 Lone Star content, at least during the season, and many of them happen to multifandom so keep that in mind. Many of them also love 911 OG! I’m sure I missed important people I follow because it’s hard to weed through my follow list, so I’m sorry if I do. I’ve also provided some reasons why I love these people, mostly to give these wonderful humans some much-deserved love. (in no particular order just thrown out however my jumble mind sees fit)

First of all, @mybaby-tk, I love your blog and am always glad to see your posts, so you’d definitely make my list of blog suggestions. Lots of good takes. Lots of 911 Lone Star content. I cannot wait for more of your stuff.

@buckleystrand is a must. Some of the prettiest gifs, cute fics that make my heart leap, and just an overall really cool person. I think we’re blessed to have someone so talented in this fandom. 

@evaneddie is the #1 Marjeo fan (and I’m glad about that). They are a great contributor of gifs and also 911 OG content. I’m so glad to see them on my dash and to have someone providing good writing as well as gifs.

@bluestar22x a real fandom hero who always engages with posts. I love seeing this blog and their comments pop up because you always have interesting things to see. Such a great person and has a great tagging system for those who like that kind of thing (would be amazing if Tumblr liked to make tags fully functional haha).

@eveningspirit is also excellent. A wonderful writer (one of my faves) and I think we tend to like the same kind of stories, so TASTE! Seems really sweet and she just has 10/10 vibes. Is great at enunciating thoughts. A real fandom gem.

@bucktks Loves Ronen very much. Makes pretty gifs that I could spend hours looking at. Seems like a very cool human. Aesthetically pleasing blog.

@tylerkennedystrand is one of the first people I found who posted Lone Star content. Lots of multifandom content but still and excellent person in the Lone Star fandom.

@itsnotamarriageproposal TARLOOOSSSSSS I mean that’s pretty much all I have to say and you can feel my passion for this blog.

@lovelessmotel not fully Lone Star, but enjoyable all-around content that seems to fit well with things I like. Very pretty theme. Seems like a cool person.

@reyesstrand this is a Lone Star side blog so you can expect pretty much all lone star content. Wonderful posts. A writer. Just a great blog overall that I enjoy looking at.  

@homeinda-blue has a lot of great thoughts. Multifandom. Mostly text posts sharing these thoughts. Has some good insight that never occurred to me before. A really wonderful person!

@daybreak96  Multi-fandom. Shares lots of cool Rafa content. I just really like this blog. I found this blog looking through the tag, and I’m so glad that I did because I really enjoy it.

@adrianintown Lots of great ideas that I love seeing. A blog that has a good mix of different kinds of posts. Seems like a super smart and fun person. Also likes Animal Kingdom. Writes good stuff.

@soclosebutyetsofar is a blog that mostly focuses on Tarlos but also is in other fandoms such as the 100 and Roswell NM. Great content. I haven’t been following long, but I’m really glad I did.

@911lonestarweek For all the fun of 911 Lone Star Week to keep us entertained during the hiatus. 

@mattcasey AMAZING GIFS. Reblogs  A LOT of Lone Star content. A real friend to content creators and I’m glad to see it. Excellent taste in content. You’ll see 911 mixed in as well as some other fandoms.

@harvestleaves LOTS of 911 Lone Star content. Super supportive of content creators and REBLOGS. Lots of cute writing that I love seeing. I’m so glad that I found this blog.

@bellakitse is one of my favorite writers in this family. Creates excellent content. is multifandom, but I really love this blog a lot and I’m appreciative of all the amazing writing we are given.  

@ronenrubinstein a variety of content, but lots of Lone Star love, and Ronen love, and Ronen as a Harry Styles stan love. Really, I saw Harry and 911 Lone Star in one blog and thought it had to be good. I was right.

@spookycass A nice bright theme that is very sunny. Really great content. Seems like a nice person and I’m glad I follow this blog.

@tkandbuck A variety of content, but the 911 Lone Star stuff is really excellent, and I mean, TK and Buck… how could I not love this wonderful blog?

@tarloses A must follow for all the Tarlos lovers out there. A good balance of content that I enjoy very much.

@marjanmarwanis is allergic to poor leadership ;). I enjoy all the icons that she makes of the characters and cast. Also posts 911 OG icons. 

@a-gay-fish More 911 OG but also just a great blog that has excellent vibes and amuses me. I’m glad to have finally found this blog (better late than never). 

@onceuponatarlos A blog dedicated to Tarlos prompts, so does amazing work. 

@thompsonconnors Multifandom but a lot that I like, so it works for me. Makes nice gifs that I appreciate very much (excellent Grace gifs woooo)

@tylerkennedysstrand  lots of interests, but a fun blog to follow. Not to be confused with @tylerkennedystrand which I did for a while, but I have seen the light now and have realized that this excellent blog is a blog all of its own and worth checking out.

@pikku-myy Probably more of a 911 blog, but also posts Lone Star content and I enjoy the energy of this blog. 

@meneatyoghurt I read this url as me neat yoghurt for far longer than is acceptable, but I understand now and am enlightened. I also just love this blog. Lots of interesting thoughts. I love seeing this person pop up.

@embersinashes Another OG fan who I’ve seen write some really good thoughts on the show, and I love seeing on my dash. 10/10 content. 

@paul-strickland Might’ve been the first 9-1-1 Lone Star blog I followed, so clearly top-notch content and lots of it. Very cool edits. Also likes 911 OG and writes. She is a great addition to the fandom.

@tarlosgifs It is what it says on the tin, which is why all Tarlos lovers should give this blog a look.

@guesswhofern before starting this I said to myself DO NOT forget @guesswhofern because in my follow list this one is tucked between a bunch of other non Lone Star follows. Anyways, all the Lone Star content on this blog makes me happy, and this blog supports creators a lot, which is amazing.

@mtngirlforever a multi-fandom blog, but one you have to follow because of all the Lone Star talk that goes on there and a bunch of excellent content. One of my faves. Also, some Tarlos RP is that’s your thing. If it’s not, it’s tagged so fear not. Can’t say enough about this blog.

@actuallytkstrand multifandom.  Mostly 911 and Lone Star. A good balance of text and non-text posts. Just the right amount of content. Some good lone star memes (we don’t see enough) and good takes.

@thegayfleet a blog dedicated to gay things. Provides pics from lots of Ronen’s photoshoots. Also has a lot of other gay content and gifs from Lone Star and other shows with gay characters.

·         Will do the city of New York and Tokyo in different background shading to add effect

·         Definitely count on seeing Blue Aesthetic on his account

·         Once in awhile do a funny post say of Mikey being chased by Raph of you and him doing a snapchat filter

·         He will even post some of his poetry he has been writing as well as art work

·         Oh definitely count on him showing off his bonsai trees he has in his room, they looked so precise with his tending

·         His account is pretty huge! Compared to his brothers already got over a hundred posts in a week!

·         Posts on pizza he makes in the kitchen, a graffiti piece he had done on the wall, the newest design on skateboards, him trying out new tricks on his board, and of course nunchucks!

·         But his favorite thing to post would be you and him!

·         Count on every post you two take with snapchat filters, some having a few captions in the middle!

·         Definitely a selfie taker or should he say “Shelfie!” Such a show off!

·         Loves for the laugh of it to take photos of the bros and add silly stickers or edits to the pics and posts them with funny captions, often leading them to give him a yell from across the room

·         But quite surprisingly some actually do get approval or praise once in awhile that is

·         He takes pics of you wherever you two head off to whether that be the beach, skatepark, on the roof, or even in bed he never misses an opportunity

·         He has so many favorites, but the most favorite that was special to him was the one he took of you guys last night

·         You had baked him a pizza in the shape of a heart, and were eating a piece from the heart in your hand with a sweet smile
