I've been back in England for three days and everything is so wonderful and I've almost cried like five times. Everything is different and yet nothing is.

I have met children that I saw for the first time in the hospital moments after they were born, and now they are full people that I can speak to and give advice to and lose at monopoly to.

Some of my parents friends have told me I've grown so much and others say I haven't changed a bit but they all agree that I can call them at any time I need and come over for Christmas and Durga Puja and whenever else I want.

Last night I sat on an old friend's carpet and played with her dog into the late hours of the night while her dad told me I'm going to have a blast at university and I don't need to take shit from anyone and gave me extensive advice on my credit card.

Every single one of my old friends is taller than me now and either studies at a top university somewhere away from home or is preparing to apply to one but they're all dropping whatever else they had to visit a reunion tonight to see me.

I've been away from home - and I never stopped thinking of it as home - for five years now and it has been so deeply gratifying to come back and see that I have a full support system in place.

27/28.09.22: last night's dinner as well as today's lunch.

A subji dish with every green veg I had (leeks, peas, broccoli) as well as mushrooms. The recipe called for kale as well but I didn't have that, or anything leafy, so I just used a little more of the other veg. Accidentally added a good deal more chilli powder than necessary but I love spicy food so no big deal. Ate with a fried egg on top last night for protein and made a noodle-y broth today to make it more substantial. There's still plenty left for tonight's dinner!
