Velvette considered her companion, and his questions, carefully.

The damaged plumage on just one side reminded her of Valentino's antenna. But in Val's case she knew it had something to do with how he had died. Many Sinners bore signs of their lives and deaths in their eternal bodies. But Deudephelon wasn't a Sinner. He hadn't died. So more likely he had just been hurt. (Someone hurt him, her instinct insisted, this was Hell after all. Even if that was theoretically near impossible. Goetia were supposed to be near indestructible weren't they?)

"The information will probably just cost a favor in return," Velvette reasured him, ignoring the matter of arranged marriages and flirting for the moment.

She had her tower. She had her wonderful idiot princes. And now? She had an interesting puzzle to solve. (Maybe a friend? Perish the thought...)

The last question was an interesting piece to that puzzle. Not the question itself, but how he asked it. The insistence almost like a mechanical glitch. "A hashtag is this here symbol." She pulled up one of the Sinstagram posts someone had made of the two of them and indicated the # with a perfectly manicured, viciously pointed, fingernail.

The poster had tagged the photograph: #Velvette #OverlordVelvette #Vees #theVs #meetcute #PrinceCharming #lordstewarddudefellonnoctus #omgsohot #ishipit.

"Each ah these words following the hashtag is a content tag, so people can search and find the topics wot interest them. Speakin of, if that ain't how you spell yor name you might want to make yourself an account so people can tag you proper." She frowned at the other tags. People were already putting the cart before the horse. But that was celebrity. People loved a bit of hot goss.

The young Goetia Lord was quite handsome, and she enjoyed his company, but Velvette was neither princess nor gold digger. She was a business woman. She was an Overlord. Distractions like romance were all well and good for ensnaring people in contracts- Heart's Desire was a common wish- but not for movers and shakers like her.

Unfortunately for Velvette, the potential lesson in situational awareness that bumping physically into one person already this morning might have taught her had been thoroughly forgotten. And distractions of romance aside, distractions like her phone were a daily occurrence. She didn't even register the people coming up behind them until suddenly there were hands on her arms and a length of barbed wire passing over her head to press against her neck as a garrot.

"Hand over the cash, buddy, or ya get ta watch yer little girlfriend here die," the Sinner with the wire snapped at Deudephelon.

"Unless you're into that," one of the imps on her arms added. "Then we won't let you watch."

"Are you fucking kidding me?!" Velvette demanded.

The crowd repeated their usual reactions to Velvette changing people's clothes in public– an action usually reserved for herself and her colleagues– with those not simply filming taking a flurry of photographs. Her own phone pinged repeatedly as posts tagged with her name went up all over Sinstagram. But as he insisted on the more specific title, as he took her arm, Velvette realized suddenly that she liked this man.

He was as fastidious with his word choice as she would be with her fabric choice. No short cuts, no generalizations. And while he was the governor of his castle and the associated lands in every technicality, the insistence on specificity was surprisingly humble.

The hauteure of a noble, but also complete confidence in being exactly what he was. Compared to the scramble for power she witnessed (and engaged in) constantly among Sinners, it was like watching an ice dancer in a hockey game.

And the tease about whether they must needs be formal was very nearly a flirt.

"Dunno that this quite counts as a date, Lord Stewart," Velvette laughed, tossing a wink up at him even as she declined the intimacy of forgoing titles, as they proceeded. People parted before them and generally dispersing back about their business. One or two following vaguely out of curiosity or malefic cunning, as happened on the streets of Pentagram City. If they became obnoxious they could be delt with.

"But I'm sorry to hear of your troubles. I've nevah personally heard of your castle, but my cohort hears pretty much everything. If you need a lead, we might be able to do you a favor. Hashtag surprised some wankers had the sack to attack a Goetia house though. You got a list a suspects?"
