my thoughts on this hxh ABCD mess
Being a Togashi fan is such a roller-coaster of emotions. I think I went through all the stages of grief in only one day.
Half of me believes he's trolling.
To be honest, it's better to just take it with a light heart. Togashi is known for joking around about himself, his health and his own story. (I wasn't in the fandom at that moment, but I wonder how everyone reacted when he said everyone was going to die). I consider ending D to be so uncharacteristically him for so many reasons I could talk for hours about it. I find it ironic how he gave a stereotypical-shonen-like ending when he talked several times (even in this interview) about how he likes to surprise himself (and his readers) when he writes. Some other times he explained he likes to play with these shonen stereotypes and just do something different. I mean, he's been doing it since the beginning of his career.
And I'll be honest, ending D sounds like a mockery of shounen.
(And I feel a bit dumb taking this so seriously if he's joking.)
(Though, this also may be the case of "the boy who cried wolf" and he's actually saying the truth this time.)
The other half of me thinks he's being honest.
If he is actually giving us a back-up ending, I find it incredibly sad. Not only because of his health, but also because he felt pressured enough to give us an ending, no matter its form and no matter if it's an ending he doesn't even consider anymore. He shouldn't have been on that position.
It is important to take into account that this is not an ending he wants or even considers anymore, it is an ending we can take if he's not able to finish HunterXHunter. We need to realize there's a lot of circumstances we don't know about or may not be considering for him to give us this ending as an option at that moment. And what type of ending too.
I seriously want for him to be able to finish Hunter X Hunter the way he truly wants, not worrying about anything else. He's thinking about three plausible scenarios that may see the light of day or not. And no matter what he ends up choosing, he should choose whatever he wants. It's his story, no ours. And it may even be his last story (I know it's sad, I want him to keep on writing forever, but it's true). Honestly, a part of me wants him to choose the A scenario because that's where seems to be less drama, but actually I want him to choose the C scenario. Even if that ending is Gon married to a lizard with beautiful lizard-babies in the Dark Continent. And that's because that ending is what he would actually want to do with the story.
(I really am curious about it, though. I know I wouldn't be able to guess even in a million years, but I'm still curious. And I so want to read the whole interview and see the whole episode, since there were more questions about other things.)
For the shippers
I know this feels like a punch in the gut or something even worst. I felt it too. And it's totally valid to feel like we do and not agreeing with ending D. Even as a non-shipper because what do you mean, Gon did what?
Everyone who follows me knows I'm a proud Killugon and Leopika shipper. And I will keep on being one even if Hunter X Hunter transforms into Boruto and I have to see Grandpa Gon (the more I say it, the more it sounds like a joke).
Honestly, I always considered the gay ships were never going to be explicitly canon.(Kishimoto traumatized me). Not because of lack of material, but because there's a whole context and a lot of external circumstances we sometimes forget about (and Kishimoto traumatized me). There was a reason why Togashi couldn't make his queer manga in the 90s, which, I'm sorry, I don't consider it to be that long ago. And there is a reason why he can't explicitly say that characters like Pouf or Hisoka are gay (despite being totally obvious and them being villains).
I still find it admirable how Togashi included so many queer elements in his stories and got away with it. And he's a mangaka that does shonen. And not just any shonen, a battle manga in Shonen Jump. (He included a trans man in Level E and made him transition. The way Togashi explains some things about this character may be a bit problematic, but Togashi still did this). And those queer elements are still there and are still as canon as when he wrote it the first time. Pouf is as gay as he is dramatic. And Ging and Pariston still have that sexual tension (and I'm 100% sure they fucked or they are going to fuck in the near future or both). And Killua is still the queerest boy I've seen in the longest time.
Sometimes, I think there's a possibility of Killugon being canon. But only because of Togashi's history and tastes. He may feel a bit rebellious and just go with it, he's so unpredictable that I'm always expecting anything and everything from him (I mean, he did what he did with Hisoka and Illumi and so many other things). However, he's an introvert, I'm not sure if he actually wants the attention he would get if he actually goes with it. And that is something we should also respect. (I do think the most plausible option is Killugon to be as ambiguous as they are now.)
In relation to ending D, I don't think we should worry that much. At the end of the day, it is an ending he doesn't consider anymore. (At least we can sleep well knowing that the ending he wants to do doesn't have to do with Grandpa Gon). What's important is what he writes and does in the manga. That is what speaks louder than anything.
Though, I do think it's going to be a pain in the ass interacting with other fans. I'm not looking forward to it. (At least they are going to stop saying that Kurapika will die, I hope!). What I'm looking forward to is the new Killugon content in the fandom.
My personal take
Gon =/= Ging. I could say a lot about this, since one of the things I love the most about Hunter X Hunter is what he did with these two and Gon's arc, but I think this is clear enough.
So!
After saying all of this, I think the only thing we should consider as canon is the manga. If he doesn't write it, it didn't happen.
If he's saying the truth, he may be thinking about how to finish Hunter X Hunter sooner or later. Even though so many fans say that they want an ending, I feel like we are not ready. Not even for Gon marrying a lizard and having beautiful lizard-babies in the Dark Continent.
I hope I was coherent enough. I have no answers, only thoughts and thoughts! I feel like we can only speculate and ending D is so confusing because how did we even get there?
I may be going through all the stages of grief again tomorrow, but I wanted to share my thoughts (at least partially). I may erase it if I feel too uncomfortable, but yeah!
Conclusion: Let's just take it with a light heart and wait to see what happens! (I know it's hard).

Hi! 😅 What is your least favorite stereotype or generalization about Killugon/Leopika that you see often in the Hunter x Hunter fandom? It doesn’t have to be the most common ones, you can say some that you just personally don’t agree with!
(Doing a little research/experiment.)
hi anon!
oooh, I'm gonna answer for both because I have Strong Opinions.
For Killugon, I'm not a fan of seeing them be "too perfect" with each other. I think teasing and competitiveness is a really important part of their dynamic, especially if they're just getting to know each other or fairly young, so it can feel a little off for me if they're instantly doting soulmates. They're also both super weird kids who would grow up into super weird adults, so I always love to see them be less perfect about each other. More fighting! More awkwardness!
For Leopika, this one is personal: Leorio is A Catch and should be treated as such. I always see them depicted where Kurapika is this flawless, put-together, beautiful man and Leorio is messy and embarrassing and doesn't know what he's doing. Here's the thing: Leorio is 19 when we meet him. I don't know a single cool 19 year old that has their shit together. He grows up to be a tall, handsome (fight me, Leorio is handsome) doctor. He loves his friends. He's still embarrassing and he probably talks really loudly, but he gets his shit done when he needs to.
Kurapika on the other hand?
Kurapika is like gifted kid burnout personified. Kurapika goes from honors student to an adult that showers once a week and puts 98% of their energy into their extremely high stress career. The other 2% goes to falling asleep on the couch with an open box of Door Dash on his stomach. Kurapika is still stoic and wildly intelligent, but I also think at some point he'd encounter Leorio in Serious Medical Professional Mode and have a moment of, "Oh, oh no," and not know what to do with himself or how to behave like a person. Leopika, but give Leorio his flowers.
This was a fun one, thanks for the ask! 💕

Based of OG Ace Attorney cover, here's Leorio Paradinight crossover!
It was part of the HxH Game crossover event I 've decided to take part in.
If you want to learn more about this au, please click read more
About this au, some things are changed some stayed the same but just so you know, characters are kind of based on:
^Phoenix Wright - Leorio, aspiring defense lawyer, he wants to protect those whom people are averting their eyes from. He more or less willingly gets mentored by the stupidly smart brat Killlua who seems to know any law term and norm. They banter a lot but actually become decent friends.
^Maya Fey - Gon, a spiritualist of a world-renowed family Freecss with traditions. The rumors say they can contact the true spirit and connect with the netherworld. Has been saved by Leorio and Killua both, joins hands with them afterwards
^Edgewotrth - Kurapika, got mentored by the Zoldycks on how to become top prosecutor. He's utmost driven to not let any true criminal go unpunished. Gathers renown until the day he'll be able to catch Phantom Troupe and bring justice to the fallen, has a companionship with Killua bordering on sibiling bond
^Mia Fey and Franziska mix up - Killua, he has a pivotal role in leading Leorio's carier and actually becomes his mentor after triyng to cut off his ties to his inheritance as the Zoldyck heir, a true tycoon of the prosecution world. During trials if he decides to participate he takes on a role of a consultant.
As you can see, though Leorio is the titular attorney, Killua is the glue connecting everyone in here. But that just leaves all the more unresolved conflict because he hides the truth of his heritage. He found Leorio by chance and he got impressed by him after a second third take with the attitude he has, how it's not about money but bringing the truth to the table, pretty much opposite of the Zoldycks. I'm not good at writing but I'll try to say few things about their cases? It's more or less basing of "The Trilogy"but with the spin of HxH characters being themselves, it sure would reflect in the plot,
-A case about mysterious animal being spotted, the legendary Chimera Ant! Gon is a huge deal on this case because his spiritualist power call back to the wilderness and all the instinct one gets from it.A lot of logic/belief topic going on here and killugon spotlight
-A case of murder on the "Hunter X" movie plan, it's related to Gon because he was there to meet the main hero, Kite, his godfather. He gets roped into the investigation and is considered suspect for some time before
-Another case in which Gon is the main suspect. Since he's from family of spiritualists, vibing with the nature and otherworld. So when there's a case against him Killua is determined to find his innocence. Even if it means going against Kurapika. That's also the case that showcased Leorio and Kurapika's banter and whatnot so major old marriage leopika vibe
-There's a huge final case in which member of the PT's is murdered and who would have guessed, Kurapika is found bloodied on the crime scene. This is a very turnaround case because the one responsible for prosecuting it, is no one else but Killua after he disappeared (made a tactical retreat) from Leorio's side. Perhaps family pressure? Illumi blackmailing him? Being ashamed of 'tricking' Gon and Leorio and leaving Kurapika to deal with everything alone? All of the above, because now he stands against everyone he grew to be fond of. Eventually, the true killer gets found giving a chance to mend strained bonds, by joining hands in catching the real culprit all along that was hiding among the witnesses. The fake group member [wink] -Ps, Netero's just playing along for the trial's sake even if he's got the truth like way earlier, he's not naive, but likes seeing 'entertaining trial' as long as it's goes the right way eventually
-Leopika & killugon featured, all aged up, imagine lots and lots of banter and sexual tension in the court
That's it, thank you for reading my thoughts <3

leopika is old man yaoi because just based on the current way things are going they probably each only have a few more years to live max. they're like 90% through their lifespans, realistically.

so lack of engagement with my leopika fic coupled with everything that happened last week has finally managed to break thru my hyperfixation on that story and i found myself pausing to start work on something new in an old fandom with an old blorbo that will get even less attention ...
but the heart wants what the heart wants ... and i guess mine wants pain.

Them Bones
Pairing: Leopika
(3/7)
3. The boy, the beating
Seeing the boy made his heart skip a beat.
His friends, who were running next to him, drowned out his cries and exclamations. Kurapika was only twelve years old, but he knew that the exaltation he had felt when he found in the middle of the forest the same boy who, a year ago, had cured his best friend Pairo, was not the same exaltation that the rest of his friends had felt.
His heart had given him a curious tug, his belly had tingled, and he had felt something that seemed like an odd fusion of joy and relief. That was something he had never felt before.
The same seemed to have happened with Leorio, who had frozen in the middle of ripping off a tree branch, only looking at Kurapika as if the rest of the children were nothing more than scribbles on a cave painting. The cold hadn't become a big problem yet and it wouldn't for at least another week, so Kurapika had taken the opportunity to go out with his friends to explore a bit.
He would never have believed that he would find Leorio there, in the middle of the forest. It wasn't unusual for someone to be there, of course, it was normal for people to look for firewood and branches for the bonfires in the winter, the funny thing about that was to coincide. Being in the same place at the same time, in such a large and desolate area.
Being there at the same time as him.
"Hello," he whispered suddenly as his friends began to leave as quietly as they had arrived.
"Hello," Leorio seemed to react, breaking the branch he was holding in his hand. The old apothecary appeared from among the trees, walking slowly and shaking a lot, but the perpetual smile on his lips was never erased.
"Kurapika?" he questioned happily, his sightless eyes fixed somewhere in the forest.
"Yes, sir."
"I thought I recognized your voice," he laughed. "What a coincidence to meet here. Together with Leorio we were looking for branches for our fireplace.
"How is Pairo?" Leorio interrupted, probably realizing that the aforementioned was not in the group of children Kurapika had appeared with.
"He's fine, he's celebrating his grandmother's birthday," Kurapika commented.
"That's good," he smiled and the Kurta kid couldn't do more than respond to his smile with some shyness.
The bushes behind him stirred and Kaparo stepped out of them to call out to him with some fear and anxiety.
"Come on Kurapika!" he demanded through his teeth, looking at Leorio out of the corner of his eye, as if he were a wild cat that would jump on their necks at any moment. Kurapika felt a little embarrassed at such a basic reaction and shook his head, gesturing for Kaparo to go with the others, then turned to the other two people.
"You need help?" he questioned, moving closer to the old man and Leorio. The apothecary grinned and with a playful gesture hit Leorio's leg, destabilizing him and making him drop the branches he was carrying in his arms.
"Hey!" he grumbled, bending down to gather it all up.
"Oh yes please," the apothecary replied "You see, my friend here is not very good at interacting with nature, he is a city boy, maybe you can teach him a thing or two about the forest. In the meantime I will return to the house to drink tea..."
"It's not necessary," Leorio intervened, finishing gathering all the branches."You should go play with your friends."
"We weren't playing," Kurapika interrupted through clenched teeth, his cheeks pink. "We are twelve years old, we don't play anymore."
"You should go back to 'not playing' with your friends, then," he assured, turning away. "I can do it alone."
Kurapika, who had reached a very high level of offense by being treated like a child by another child, stuck out his tongue at Leorio and turned on his own axis to be able to retreat as quickly as possible from there. As far away as he could from the small, inexplicable pain that he had been brought on by Leorio refusing his help like that.
And although after that meeting eight years went by without another word, Kurapika could never forget three very particular things from that day; the improvement in the pronunciation of Leorio's Kurta language, the frantic beating of his own heart when he saw him and the blush on that boy's cheeks before he turned his back on him for the last time.
