#star wars#the original trilogy#boba fett#darth vader#hi. sorry for star war jumpscare. genuinely#i feel like ive kinda been on an art hiatus lately due to health stuff#i got diagnosed with a parathyroid disease recently (wahoo) so now i know why i have been feeling so bad! need more tests though#anyway. in the mean time most of the entertainment my brain can handle has been like. youtube clip compilations of shows and movies#not even the actual shows or movies. literally just sections of them on youtube#i wish i was joking#the only reason i know what happens in succession is because i have watched it in disjointed order in youtube compilations. not joking#anyway so ive learned a lot more about star wars than i ever. thought i would#mostly just the original trilogy and prequels. some of the old comics & books are interesting too#(sick to my stomach) i like darth vader he has like the same personality as ganondorf except he had no good reason for doing anything#when vader/anakin does literally anything weird or unacceptable it like. makes me laugh so hard its like jerma when he sees a car accident#boba fett’s costume design has been rotating in my head a lot too it’s very good#he’s very colorful and like. matte/unpolished compared to vader and it makes them a cool duo visually#those 2 are my favorites. vader why is the space cowboy the only person aside from sidious or tarkin who is allowed to get mad at you#sidious is my 3rd favorite. he sucks so bad as like a person that you just. you have no expectations of him except just being evil#so its just really funny like everything he does is horrible and he’s so happy all the time like good for him#i’m making it sound like ive never seen star wars before. i have i just never really cared about it until i got an endocrine disorder lmao#but yeah idk art may continue to be slow while im figuring out treatment stuff#if anyone reading this also has or has had hyperparathyroidism im wishing the strength & radiance of 1000 beautiful horses upon you

When I tell you this meme has been living rent-free in my head for the last week, and then having to edit it to include that I won because Tumblr showed up has been nothing short of a mind fuck for the old Imposter Syndrome.
Thanks, gang. I know it was a fun silly poll, but it means a lot to me 💖
Also, if you’re on Twitter go give Queer Liberation Library a follow. They’re doing good work trying to make it safer and more accessible for LGBTQ+ folks to access queer media across the US.
#hunger pangs: true love bites#Twitter polls#listen#the old mental health was awful through all of 2022#2023 is still rocky#but this absolutely cheered me up#also using it as a shovel to bludgeon my imposter syndrome to death#people logged into Twitter for my silly little book#Twitter ffs#click for sound

What has four legs in the morning, two legs in the afternoon, and three legs at night?
(an exploration of andreas over the course of 25 years, plus quotes)
#pentiment#pentiment fanart#andreas maler#pentiment spoilers#em art#so this is an old quote reference book i picked off the free stuff table at my museum job#so i figured id do something with it#act i is v standard but andreas is genuinely sketching out his life and keeps erasing all hed done up to that point#act ii is a man destroying his own sketches because it wasnt the life he wanted to live and sees burning it as the only way to truly end it#act iii is a man who has so thoroughly destroyed his foundation that he essentially is able to start new#but hell never be free of the plague of the labyrinth#the eighteen years of mind eroding loneliness and untreated mental health issues and lack of faith#even if he returns to normal... no he doesnt#he can be happy but he'll never be not-mad-as-in-crazy again#the paper is 'clear' but the graphite never really leaves the weave of the paper

These were my first ever HJP DLM fanart posts 🥹 about how Harry's magic is lightning and Draco's is starlight.
It's also about how Harry starts to lose himself to being an Auror, scattering sparks of himself for the greater good but he has nothing in his life that refuels his light so his world just keeps getting darker. Meanwhile Draco is out in the world rebuilding himself, achieving things he never dreamed he would and coming into his own greatness.
I have this really self indulgent HC that after the war trials Harry tries to return Draco's wand to him. Draco thanks Harry sincerely, for everything, and then leaves Harry and his wand behind.
Harry goes to Narcissa for help tracking him down; she won't tell Harry where Draco is but she's willing to pass on his letters and so every week Harry sends passive aggressive or sarcastic letters about how he needs Draco to take his wand back because as if Draco Malfoy is out in the world subjecting his bespoke trousers to the elements without an impervious.
He never gets a reply but he keeps sending them and eventually the subject changes from Draco's wand and his pants to how Harry's life is going. Or about his troubles, or worries. Things he can't bring himself to confide in anyone face to face. He wonders where Draco is and hopes that he's found whatever it was that was so important. He think Draco deserves it, truly.
It's about five years later when Draco realizes two things; one is that reading the letters doesn't hurt anymore. He doesn't feel that pang of jealousy reading about how the world depends on Harry. He's proud of the life he's been living and the things that he's achieved, and so he actually starts to enjoy getting to know about Harry this way. Until his second realization; Harry Potter is not well. So he grabs his shiny cloak, and his five years worth of letters and walks out the door.
#drarry#drarry fanart#hpdm#matching scars#harry x draco#I have really bad creative block rn so Im encouraging old passions to haunt me to get my own spark back#without bright and shiny inspiration to work on my default setting is misery 🥹#I just think that there's no way that Harry is going to grow into a well adjusted adult who can allow himself any rest#his cortisol must be off the charts think of your heart health Harry read a book#sacrificialter

Last week, one of our long term research fellows made a fun discover in one of our rare books.
While researching Il Tesoro della Sanita (1588) by Castore Durante, Claire Litt found some interesting marginalia. This book is on health, and this passage, where the marginalia was found deals with how much one should eat for lunch and dinner. The marginalia notes a similar book on this topic.
The inscription reads, "De [Di] prandÿ et cene portioni ni scrivi Luciano Beli da Percca (Pereca, Perca?) Contrada med.[esim]o Del Duca d'Urbino."
The English translation is: "Of lunches and dinners' portions writes Luciano from Percca, [the] same land (or "district") as the Duke of Urbino [Francesco Maria II della Rovere]"
The marginalia is referring to a book: Luciano Beli, De coenae ac prandii portione, Bononiae, 1533. Unfortunately, we don't have this book in our collection, however, it might be one that we should be on the lookout for in the future!

Immediately forgets everything that happened in June. Uh. I threw a tea party! Finished a knit hat! Did one (1) queer corvid piece! Started playing baldurs gate! Read some good books! SAW SOME SANDHILL CRANES!!!! Found new enrichment in the form of a new walking route! A busy busy month! Didn't read as much as I intended, but I did get to check off five more books on my Reading Books I Own chart so I call that a win.
The Adventures of Amina Al-Sirafi by Shannon Chakranorty ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐- WHAT A FUN BOOK! "Adventure" is the perfect word for this. Yes, it's a trilogy with only one book out, but this also works so well on its own, as individual books SHOULD! It's its own little thing. Wrapped up neat and tidy with little threads to pick up in the future. I had so much fun and the audiobook was a DELIGHT, I want to read it again immediately.
The Novice by Taran Matharu ⭐- This has been sitting on my shelf since its release. It moved homes with me. It will not be doing so again. Bland, generic, poorly written. Proof just because you were an internet success, doesn't mean you don't need an editor. Also proof that publishing is about Luck and Connections. I know goodreads ratings mean Nothing, but come on. Why is this one so high. Did people really enjoy it that much? HOW??
Translation State by Ann Leckie ⭐⭐⭐⭐- Okay. Look. This was not my favorite Leckie novel. In fact it very well could by me least favorite Leckie novel. HOWEVER. Even then, it was still fun and enjoyable. I wish it ended differently, but I still loved all the characters and how they interact. I do want to reread this as well, because I remember enjoying Ancillary Justice more the second time around and I wonder if the same will happen here.
What Moves The Dead by T Kingfisher ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - A reread! To get ready for What Feasts At Night! Even knowing all the secrets, it's still a perfectly bite sized creepy read. My favorite thing about Kingfishers writing is how even with the darkest subjects she still manages to add humor. And it never seems out of place! It's a great breather for the reader but doesn't detract from the tension. Do not recommend reading this while walking through a field of bunnies.
What Feasts At Night by T Kingfisher ⭐⭐⭐⭐ - I gave What Moves The Dead four stars at my initial read through, so I wonder if this will ALSO change to five stars upon rereading. I had to read the first few chapters twice for them to stick, and ended up switching to the audiobook which was very well done. I really didn't expect another book about Alex Easton, but I'm hooked now to be honest. I mean, stop putting this soldier in Situations, but also. I want to know what other Situations ka gets into. Angus and Miss Potter are adorable.
The library has a few summer reading games with prizes so my reading in the upcoming months will be influenced by those. Someone said there might even be a local bookstore gift package in the mix and I Want That. I do still want to do the Bone Season updated read, if for no other reason than to get rid of those books so I don't have to pack and move them. Other than that, no reading plans. I've read nearly every book that's on the shelf in my bedroom, which, wow, so it's getting harder to choose what to read. I guess that's a good thing! Leaves more room to reread old favorites.
#bookbird babbles#reading wrap up#monthly wrap up#june wrap up#books#booklr#i dont want to get rid of the bone season books bc theyre the og hardbacks with the GOOD covers#but honestly. i like the anniversary editions so much better#those white covers though......oof lmao#but like. if the book is Bad then who cares lmao#i could probably sell them tbh#i know theyre in high demand in the fandom#or were five years ago#i think the fandom has kind of given up bc it takes so long for each book to come out#and i mean. authors dont owe us anything and all that but.#girl.#ten years since book one released and youre not even halfway through your seven book series#....maybe you are#four books are out?#STILL YOU GET MY POINT#grrm behavior and that is NOT a compliment#anyway. it was an okay month#neighbors suck my health sucks the weather sucks#but the tea party fucked we killed that one#oh also i gave myself a terrible haircut the other night#chop chop!!!!!#my moms like why dont you just go to a professional and i said because im not paying 30$ for them to cut off two inches LMAO#stylists work hard but im broke thanks#ill suffer an uneven haircut for a while if it means i can do other things like buy a silly little boba#id like to dye it soon too and now that all the old blond is gone i should be safe lol

Reading Guards! Guards!: oh ahah funny fantasy book. Look at all those tropes being parodied! I’m having a good time
Reading Night Watch: my brain is getting rearranged in my skull. This is the most profoundly thoughtful and emotional fantasy book I’ve ever read and it will henceforth impact every book I write starting now
#the watch discworld#discworld#guards guards#night watch#not to dismiss guard guards it is a genuinely pleasant book to read#and you do need to read all the watch books to get the full impact of Vimes’ character development#but also WOW night watch really is all that huh#I vaguely feel like I need to take a week off work for my health or at least until I emotionally recover#which might be never#as they said in the old tumblr parlance#i cant even

I've been in a reading slump recently, in that I've just hated every book I've picked up, so I've decided to re-read the Wimsey books. I've been delighted to make it to Clouds of Witness (a personal favourite, at least partially because it was my first, and even more so because it's a great Parker story.) At any rate, I'd forgotten how much I adore Miss Tarrant. One of a brilliant series of secondary female characters that Sayers appears to have written for my personal pleasure.
#i've had bad and upsetting health procedures#on and off this year#and my hatred of everything#has quite transferred to all the books i read#which is a pity#but i could never hate lord peter#so here we are#in the last bout of treatments i read austen's emma#three times#and watched every adaptation#then read it again#sometimes i think one's brain just needs to sit with old favourites

university.. university leave me alone
#heres the situation: for my cognitive literary studies class (quite fun) we had to pick primary material and a cognitive angle to analyse it#from. and the deadline was coming up and i who have been thinking very intensely about robots for the last half a year picked#yeah you guessed it. fucking PIERS PLOWMAN. which is not fun for me but i panicked about the deadline#so now i have to do something about piers plowman and its cognitive literary properties#and im in hell this is hell i have been extremely stressed about piers plowman for a month. to the point where ive been in physical pain#AND I CANNOT. THINK OF ANYTHING. ABOUT PIERS PLOWMAN.#and the teacher for that class is so nice and chill and she was like you can pick anything at all. and i went with piers plowman#like it's interesting but from what COGNITIVE angle can i approach piers plowman.#ive been thinking about saying exactly this that piers plowman is more for historical linguists and theologists than narratologists but im#also positive plenty of scholars read piers plowman for the plot#so then i thought about the characters and whether you can Connect with them and whether they help you Immerse yourself in the story and#other terminology i learned in cognitive literary studies class.#theyre allegorical and very 1 dimensional and there could be something about whether we from 2024 understand them in the same way#people from the 14th century did. like this was what i put in my proposal when i made it#but now i actually have to make the slides and use cognitive literary papers for this and it's just not going at all. i cant do it.#i cant do anything i cant enjoy the daylight and the warmer weather i cant think about anything other than im not making progress on this#and it's bad for me!! it's bad for my health i feel bad. why did i go with piers plowman why did i not pick watership down#my post#i have plenty to say about watership downm cognitively.#also about old possums book of practical cats#maybe i could email her and tell her id like to change it.. no#ive also been reading the tombs of atuan which is incredible

If you became super rich and could design your own house, but could only add THREE unnecessary/random/expensive home additions (like how people will have bowling alleys, movie theatres, closets with museums of shoes, car display rooms, spa rooms, wine cellars, etc. in their mansions) - what three would you choose?
#I think I would have: an indoor pool (but like heavily customized with a faux weather system so I could get the feeling of swimming in#rain or fog or snow etc.). a very small arcade consisting only of skee-ball and DDR machines. and an old Library Room with authentic#historical furniture/interior design to store old books/tapestries/study room equipment/whatever other antiques I'd collect. It'd be#like some fully intricate movie set or something that would feel completely like stepping into another world/time.#Though I might would trade out the arcade for a roller skating rink.. i DO love skating....#And I wouldve put rock climbing gym because I love indoor rock climbing but.. as I understand it they have to change out the rock things#on the walls every once in a while so that you can have new routes and it doesnt get boring. and I'd rather have an activty room thats like#self sustaining and doesnt require me to hire some person to come switch things around once every month. Otherwise I would#totally do that instead.#I'm also personally not counting ''craft'' type stuff like having a pottery room kiln sort of thing because#that doesn't count as 'unnessecary' to me. since stuff like that would not at all be just a hobby I 'happen to#do sometimes for fun'#but would definitely be a career sort of thing. Like if I had the money for a fully stocked sculpture room and and a sewing room#with a good machine and etc. then I would literally be professionally selling pottery and designing clothing and etc.#so I wouldn't count it as 'just a random side room I dont need' etc.#The same way that if I played tennis professionally or as a very intense hobby that takes up most of my life/time#then I wouldn't count having a tennis court in your house to practice in as 'unncesscarry' etc.#wow that is the worst I have ever spelt that word ghbjh#Un Cess Carry#ALSO would obviously have an underground bunker of some sort with food and emergency supplies which also does not count as unnecessary to m#since it's literally like... survival.. And I thought most health organizations literally reccomend that even#the common person has a small 'go bag' prepared in their house. and like an evacuation plan in case of fire or other things#It WOULD be an unnecessary rich person thing to have a full on undergRound village or something stocked with 9000 guns and#whaetever. but I think just a basic emergency room with basic supplies could still be counted under the 'not unnecessary' requirement.#Like I would say that a sprawling courtyard of flower gardens and fountains and hedge mazes that takes up like a hundred thousand#dollars a year in maintenance would count as one of the three 'unnecessary and expensive' things. But having a small garden in the#back yard with a few planters in a little greenhouse or whatever would not. The 'excessiveness' of the thing matters lol#ANYWAY!!!#Just curious what other peoples Three Main things would be... hrrmm
