(48 y.o. in 643 AF when it all begun)

-Born as a middle-class noble, but family died in a tragic shipwreck when he was just a baby

-Was took into the Saint Vlad's Orphanage when he was just one year old by an unknown person

-After leaving the Orphanage at 16, he started studying law in the prestige Royal Law Academy that he has been saving for his whole life

-At twenty he graduated with honours and became a judge, aspiring himself to climb the hierarchy to get the highest position in Slaviugia Kingdom

-He became the Supreme Judge of Slaviugia at 35, recorded in the Year of Sun 630 AF, the second youngest person to get this job in history

-Was elected as the Chief of Royal Court in the Year of Sun 633 AF and became one of Tsar's advisor's year after

Ethan-Born in the Year of Sun 596 AF

(47 y.o. in 643 AF when it all begun)

-Born as an orphan in the land of Wano

-At 5, he was found starving in the streets by shogun Kozuki Saisho and his men, who then took him in as his son.

-For the next twelve years he was trained by the greatest blade master in that time, Lunarian named Andaiell Daerlion, with his younger brother Sutara (who he greatly envied due to the fact that he was Saisho's biological son, and therefore was shown more love then Ethan recieved)

-At age 18, he became one of the Moon Guards, elite group of twenty samurai directly operating under Shogun and protecting his and his family's life.

-Ethan had medicore education, despite being adopted into the royal family he never recieved any royal title nor any proper education as he should have (Wano still had strict rules when it came in their 4 Classes: 1. Royal family, 2. The Church of Moon, 3. Nobles, 4. Commoners) and so he is terrible at math and had to hone his reading skills by reading many books and poems. He was naturaly skilled in caligraphy though

-He adopted the name Ethanbaron after the creation of the WG, and he still mostly responds if people call him Nusjuro since he lived with that name most of his life

Saturn-Born in the Year of Sun 598 AF

(45 y.o. in 643 AF when it all begun)

-Born as the only child of royal Jay Garcia bloodline, son of king Methone and queen Anthea of the Greecion Kingdom

-Lost his mother at the early age of four as she died of miscarriage and then his father at the age of twelve after he died of an unknown illness

-Became the king month after, recorded in the Royal Cronicles: Year of Sun 610 AF

-He was spoiled a lot when he was a child, especially by his father who taught him a lot about politics. Most nobles and members of Grecion Royal Court tried to manipulate him and treated him like a snobby child, which of course he was, but he was much more dangerous and smarter then they thought and quickly got rid of oposition whilst he grew in power

-When he grew older, the passion he and his mother had for science grew larger and at the age of fourteen he atended the Academy of Sciences and graduated at the age of seventeen with honourifics

-In the Year of Sun 620 he was wedded to princess Tethys Saerlios, who was still eighteen at the time

-He was opposed to this at first, he had never met her after all, and had no idea what she was like

-The first time they met was in a lab Saturn thought belonged to one of the Royal physicians, but was surprised to find a young woman fixing a star-ship's motor. Not realizing it was Tethys , since she was dressed in an engineer's clothes stained with oil and lab glasses he came closer

-The first thing Tethys said to him and she was still with her back turned to him was: "Could you hand me that screwdriver over there?"

-Saturn was dead set on marrying that woman

-At the dinner table Saturn realized that the princess he was supposed to marry and that messy engineer from the lab before were the same person

-They married after a year, recorded in tue Royal Cronicles: Year of Sun 621 AF

-After 6 years, they had their first child and heir to the Greecion Kingdom, Jay Garcia Dione and 3 years later they had daughter, princess Jay Garcia Rhea

-Saturn and Tethys became one of the most influencial people of their time with their inventionsa and scientifical/engineering knowledge aslo the fourth wealthiest in the All Blue

Mars-Born in the Year of Sun 589

(54 y.o. in 643 AF when it all begun)

-Born as the third son of the royal Mars bloodline of Aurelion Kingdom, son of King Deimos III. and queen Aurelia

-His older brothers, Feobos and Sandos died in hunting "accident" in 598 AF and his mother, Aurelia commited suicide three months after

-Mars became king at the age of eighteen after his father, who grew mad with grief died in Trail of Sun by Mars' hand as he was unfit to rule and almost brough Aurelion to ruin, recorded in Sun's Cronicles of Aurelion; the Year of Sun 607 AF

-At the age of 35 he went to war with the ruler of Themisto Isles, the King of Storms, Shepherd Ju Krono, after the man invaded one of Mars' allied kingdoms for the goal of conquest

-The war was known as The Falcon War and took three years till Mars defeated Krono on battlefield, killing him with his own sword the Stormfeather. The end of the war was recorded to be established in 627 AF

-Since Krono died, Mars was debating on the peace treaty with Krono's only son and the Crown Prince, Shepherd Ju Peter who became the new king of Themisto islands at the young age of 13

-He took the boy as his son two years after, since it was discovered Mars was unable to have children so his bloodline would die there. (And he seemed rather fond of the sassy child)

Peter-Born on the Year of Sun 614 AF

(29 y.o. in 643 AF when it all begun)

-Born as a child out of wedlock of king Shepherd Ju Krono and unknown woman, theorised to have been a commoner

-Since Krono had no other child and never married due to his how shall I say... flirty personality, he had no other choice but to legitimize Peter and name him his heir and Crown Prince

-Whilst growing up, Peter was mostly looked down upon due to his "stained blood-status" and never had any great relationship with his father, but he still loved him nonetheless

-He became king after his father Krono died at the age of 47 by the hand of an enemy, king Marcus Mars

-He became fondof the man after meeting him, as he was the only person who took him seriously despite his young age an little of experience as a ruler

-They became rather close for the next two years and Peter was not really surprised when Mars offered an allience and then proposed the Rite of Two (a ritual with sake cups, bur much mire complicated then the one origanting from Wano)

-Despite The Falcon War and the tragic death of his biological father, Peter never felt any hate or negative emotion towards Mars, as he understood that it was Krono who was the agressor

-Peter even offered to adopt Mars' name, but the king refused.

They are not eaxctly devil fruit users, because they never eaten the fruits containing their yokai powers, rather they were given to it by Mu (details for later asks).

i'm! not much of a story teller and it's been fucking AGES since i've thought about it! but i'll give it a try! please keep in mind i was 15-17 when i first thought this up, i can show you some art when i get home! i also was using (with permission, at the time) a friends ocs/other characters

so it was about these three girls (the "leader of the group" (Antoinette/Toni (my one friends character), Melanie 'Mac' Anne Campbell (the SCOTTISH supernatural buff who was OBSESSED with aliens (my character)), and Beatrice/Bea (the 'vessel'/The Magician (like the card) also she basically has a spidey sense/prophetic visions/'gut feeling'/etc) whose souls are kind of cursed to forever return to Hell or a divine war would be wrought unto the world!!!!!!!! oh noooo!!!!!!

through a loophole (them playing with a ouija (they have died to go to hell in previous lives)) they end up in hell where they meet Lucifer, who they run away from at some point (how? idk....don't ask me........) (probably from the help of a demon (an old friends oc)) and end up in the arms of a rogue Grim Reaper (my oc Elliot, whom i have talked about once or twice) who is in love with Sekani (who was the egyptian god Anubis at the time when i first made this), the grim reaper he was training under (if that matters....these two are my babies, i have to mention the both of them together)

if i remember correctly, if the girls wanted to be free of the curse, they had to collect like. ancient artifacts, one of them was the ankh of Anubis and Bea was the vessel for Lucifer? so that he could leave hell i think there were like 4 to 6, but i only remember the one. one mightve been an angels horn too but idr

i know that i wanted it to end with Luci and God kind of sort of reconciling? that's about all i remember

yesterday I found old Slavic historical Chronicles. I was only testing the theory of the second moon...

More than 143,000 years ago, three moons orbited Midgard-Earth. Three moons shone in the sky above the Earth, their names were Lelya, Fatta, and Mesiatz... At first, the Earth had two moons, Lelya and a Mesiatz. And Fatta came later… This is an exciting story. Then in the Universe there was a battle of dark and light forces. This was between the orbits of the planet Oreya (i.e. Mars) and the Earth of Perun (i.e. Jupiter). Then there was also the land of the Dey, around which two moons, Lititia and Fatta, revolved. During that battle, the Earth of Dey was destroyed and turned into an Asteroid Belt. But the moon Fatta remained unharmed. The arias left on the whitemans for the planet Earth. A tribe of black people, the inhabitants of the land of the Dey, also asked to live on the Midgard Land, because after that battle they had no place to live. The Aryans accepted new inhabitants on Earth, and settled them in the hot African continent (because the temperature regime in Africa most coincided with the regime on Dey Land) . And to make it easier for them to get used to the new planet, the gods also moved the moon Fatta to Earth's orbit.

And since then, three moons began to Shine in the sky of the Earth, like three sisters - the near Lelya, the middle Fatta, and the far Mesiatz. Lelya revolved around the Earth in 7 days (and for this reason, there are 7 days in our week - Lelya moon made it easy to determine the day of the week), Fatta in 13 days and the Mesiatz in 29.5 days. When the three moons rose above the horizon, the sky was lit up with a bright radiance of wonderful beauty, shimmering with blue, emerald, purple, silver, and gold light. The special gravity of the three Moons created an invisible protective field for the Earth, like the dome of a temple... under this gentle field, as in a cradle, all new plants on earth were born, and a magic source of the power of life was created. Slowly the Earth spun, and the arias met new moon and sun dawns, and the fairyland of daaria bloomed more and more beautifully. The arias named the near moon Lelya, in honor of the goddess Lelya, the beautiful goddess of pure light Love. The moons had a beautiful atmosphere and a warm climate, just as on earth, trees and flowers grew there, and so did the merry rains and the rainbows shone. On the moon Lelya there were 50 wonderful seas, and many clean rivers where magic fish swam ... And on the mysterious, wise moon Fatte, new fairy tales were born every starry night. A clear moon Mesiatz, smiling, conjured fantastic dreams, gave poetry of feelings… And still remember this ancient slavic legends: "Here is Lelya in the sky shines, and the Mesiatz has come».

But once, a little more than 111 thousand years ago, the small Moon Lelya was destroyed by the power of Tarkha Dazhbog, who destroyed the base of Koshcheev, which was on the moon Lelya (because it’s been the closest moon from Earth) and it fell to the Earth with fragments, which caused the sinking of the continent daariya – the continent at the North pole of Midgard-Earth, where our Ancestors lived for a long time after the settlement of Midgard-Earth. This continent sank as a result of the flood created by the waters and fragments of the destroyed small moon Lelya .

The greedy Koschei, the rulers of the race of Gray, found out us. And decided to capture the Earth and its entire population. To do this, they came and settled on the moon Lelya, because Lelya is the closest moon to the Earth. And they have already set up their weapons on the moon Lelya, and aimed them at the Earth to attack. But no one's plan is unnoticed by the light gods. The gods, Svarog, Perun, and Dazdbog rose to the defense, and for the sake of saving their native Land and its inhabitants, they sent arrows in the direction of the Koschei. And Lelya moon split into pieces. And poured out like tears, the salt waters of the seas poured on the Land. Since then, on Earth, the water in the seas and oceans has become salty. A large wave rose in the ocean, and the native country of daariya began to sink under the water.

This is also said by the Santi Vedas of Perun: "You, on Midgard, have been living quietly since long ago, when the world was established... Remembering from the Vedas, about the deeds of Dazdbog, how he destroyed the strongholds of the Koschei that were on the nearest moon... Tarkh not let insidious Koshchei Midgard destroy, how to destroy Dey Land... These Koschei, the rulers of the Greys, perished with the Moon in half an hour ... But Midgard paid for his freedom with Daaria, hidden by The great Flood... The waters of the moon created that Flood, on Earth from the Heavens they fell like a rainbow, for the Moon split into parts and the army of Svarozhich in Midgard descended..."

But daariya did not sink immediately, there were still 15 days left for rescue. And so the inhabitants of Daaria, Aria, managed to escape. Some of them for weimann flew into the Universe, to their starry Abodes of the gods. The rest of the Aryans began to go to the big mainland via the Riphean mountains. The arias stopped at new lands and built wonderful cities and temples anew. And again life was revived, and the gardens bloomed. Once again, the arias cherished sacred knowledge and cosmic wisdom, and brought divine light and Holy love to people. And again they continued to fly into space. And again, even more beautiful, the beautiful native Land bloomed. And in the sky of the Earth two moons, a Mesiatz and a Fatta, have shone ever since.

But all was not yet quiet in the Universe. Dark forces penetrated the secrets of nature's magic, and decided to become the rulers of the world, to use magic for the sake of personal power over people. And again the light gods came to the defense. And one of the fire arrows in this battle accidentally hit the moon Fatta. A fragment of Fatta's moon broke off and fell to the Earth. And Fatta went out of orbit and flew into space, and still she wanders somewhere among distant galaxies and stars ... a lone wanderer Phaethon… And that fragment of the moon that had fallen on the earth had again raised a huge wave in the ocean. A giant wave circled the earth three times, covering and flooding everything around. The earth trembled, the earth's axis tilted, continents and mountains shifted. The volcanoes awoke, and clouds of ash rose in the sky, and it was dark on the earth as at night, and the sun was not visible. The time of the great Cold has begun. The land was covered with snow and glaciers. But even then, people bravely fought for life, with faith, in prayer and work, helping each other to survive. Gradually the clouds of ash cleared away, and the sun began to Shine more warmly. Warm bright days returned, nature revived, people returned to their former life, and began to revive everything anew. And again the Holy temples were built, with faith and love. Children were born again, flowers bloomed. And with renewed hope the people prayed to the heavens. And precious grains of sacred wisdom, bequeathed by the Aryans and the gods, protect bright souls.

This happened 13029 years ago (for 2020). on Midgard-Earth, fragments of Fatta's destroyed moon fell into the Pacific ocean. The Leaders Of Antlan (Atlantis) they became guides of the Dark Forces and unleashed a planetary war for world domination. They used nuclear weapons and tried to control the forces of the elements of Midgard-Earth. Attempts at this control were unsuccessful and the second Moon – Fatta began to fall on Midgard-Earth.To save the planet from destruction God Niy destroyed the Particular falling, but the falling debris was too large and it has caused a dip in the sea Antlan-Atlantis. A huge fragment crashed into the Earth in the area of the Western continent (America), resulting in a change in the tilt of the earth's axis by 23.5 degrees and the continental outline. All this, taken together, caused a lot of natural disasters and the beginning of a new ice age, and most of the survivors, after this planetary disaster, very quickly fell to the primitive level.

In a number of ancient texts, this process is described as a change in the inclination of the sky in relation to the Earth. For example, in the ancient Chinese treatise "Huainanzi" it is described as follows: "the Sky tilted to the Northwest, the Sun, Moon and stars moved." The earth's axis has acquired a wolf-like movement along an ellipse, which modern scientists call the "precession period". Yarilo-the Sun began to pass through other Celestial Halls on the Svarozhy Circle, that is, it began to pass through new constellations.

On the wall of one of the Mayan pyramids in America, there is an inscription "Small Moon broke". In the Chinese treatise "Huainanzi" this event is described as follows: "the vault of heaven broke, the earth's scales broke. The sky tilted to the Northwest. The sun and stars have moved. The land in the South-East was incomplete, and so the water and silt rushed there… In those distant times, the four poles collapsed, the nine continents split... the fire blazed without subsiding, the waters raged without ceasing."A giant wave from falling debris three times around the earth, which led to the death of Antlan (Atlantide) and other Islands. Increased volcanic activity led to atmospheric pollution, which was one of the causes of the Great cold Snap and glaciation.

Hence the word "fatality", "Fatal outcome", and the number 13 (the number of days the circulation of Fatta around Midgard) has since been considered unlucky. People moved South to warmer habitats, and the glacier almost destroyed all traces of living in the Northern latitudes. Many centuries passed before the atmosphere began to clear, and the glaciers retreated to the poles.

Since then, one moon has been shining in the sky of our earth for a Mesiatz. But Lelya and Fatta did not disappear on the ground at all. They live in the seas, and in every grain of sand on the coast, they live in the mountains, they live in every flower, their clear images appear in the wonderful lights of the sky and can be seen in dreams.

Y'know, I would love to do roleplay stuff with my various OCs, but the problem is that they are very much built for the universe they were built for (because they're mostly Tabletop RPG and LARP characters) so having lore knowledge is important to knowing who they are as people.

Like, it's already hard enough to find a nsfw roleplay partner who matches your kinks, vibe, and roleplay style. I dont wanna be like

"Yeah, I think you seem like a good fit! How familiar are you with a grimdark modern fantasy ttrpg/larp made in the late nineties to early 2000s that has insane amounts of lore and gets revisions and additions every few years to keep it modern setting?"

Kinky text roleplay doesnt need to have a goodreads list, but it's hard to disconnect my characters from the settings they're made for, and I would like to have RP be more than JUST the smut, I also like some narrative substance.

I’ve read “Shady Characters. The Secret Life of Punctuation, Symbols & Other Typographical Marks” by Keith Houston

This book was published in 2014. It cronicles the histories of several punctuation marks and other typographical characters of English. There are chapters on the pilcrow ¶, the interrobang ‽, the octothorpe #, the ampersand &, the @ symbol, the asterisk * and dagger †, the hyphen -, the dash –, the manicule ☛, quotation marks “” and typographic depictions of irony.

In many of the chapters you can read about the origins of additional typographic marks. So if you’re wondering (like I did) why Houston wouldn’t want to tell me about the comma, don’t worry. It’s in there. I especially enjoyed learning about the origins of the @ symbol and its associations with trading. I was not the biggest fan of the chapter on irony, especially irony on the *~internet~*, but oh well.

I found the book educational and entertaining. You learn a lot about stuff that is not technically typographical. But that is to be expected, since Houston wants to accurately set the scene for the contexts in which every mark was created and how it has developed ever since.

There are just the right amount of graphics in the book to depict certain marks in old manuscripts or variations of marks such as the ampersand.

I was especially fond of the colour work: While the whole text is (expectedly) set in a black font, all the “special” typographical marks (not stops or commas, though) are set in red:

The book ends with a small annotated further reading section and a vast notes section full of further further readings.

I recommend “Shady Characters” to all typography nerds and fans of historical graphematics and punctuation. From reading this, you will learn when to use which dash (what the heck, english?), a lot about the people working at the library of Alexandria and the consequences of limited space on typewriters.

That's a very open ended question! I have a LOT of them. and like talking about all of them!

If I'm including LARP characters, which I typically do, I have 15 characters I would consider "active" and several from past games or from concepts that never made it to a game or havent made it to a game yet.

I mostly play D&D 5e, Pathfinder, and Old World of Darkness, but also really enjoy other game systems like Glitter Hearts, Mutants and Masterminds, and occasionally Cronicles of Darkness. I can also enjoy a few of the warhammer RPGs, like Rogue Trader, with some modifications and understanding that I'm not gonna learn all the lore.

If any of those game systems jump out at you, ask away! Or if you have a modifier for a character you wanna hear about (like my favorite or a specific class or something), that works too!

If anything you could pick a number between 1 and 15 (the first 6 being LARP characters) and I'll just talk about them.

Do you have any Zoya and Nikolai wedding headcannons I would really appreciate it

*screams* I DO I ABSOLUTELY DO

listen none of that bullshit of an ✨intimate wedding✨ they go ALL OUT its HUGE and theres a lot of food and a big ball and everything

Both of them wear white. Nikolai wears a typically russian kaftan with golden details and big sleeves, and also a sword cause decorative swords are my shit. He also has a crown that falls on his forehead its pretty and it makes his eyes shine.

And she wears an off the shoulder gown, with a sweetheart neckline and a princess cut with big skirt. It also has big long sleeves. She wears a big tiara too with beads that frame her face and fall onto her neck.

The wedding has reporters and photographers and all like, its that big. i mean irs the king of ravka getting married i guess it makes sense.

Everything is decorated in white blue and gold, with delphiniums and jasmine, the place smells so fresh and summery

Oh its a spring wedding. They have it at the palace cause fuck institutionalized religion idc. And its on a very sunny and fresh day 😌

He just!!! cant!!! stop!!!! smiling!!!! And everyone notices it. In fact him being so smily gets into most reports cause its dashing.

They hold candles during the ceremony (yes i did look up russian wedding traditions for this hi i didnt include all but i did add some) and the way it illuminates zoyas face..... saint like i say sAINT LIKE

her eyes look so bright (ah yes the esrrings.... they make it even better) nikolai cant help but spurt out a "im dying to kiss you" to which the officiant asks him to "be patient, boy! ".... this also makes it into newspapers and cronicles.

And when they kiss its so cute too cause theyre both so impatient for it, afterthe first kiss nikolai kisses zoya all over her face and shes so smiley and all

im thinking that decades after some of the most emblematic historic pictures from Nikolis reign are him and zoya kissing and zoya signing the marriage ceritifcate with him smiling behind her, as well as zoya feeding him cake with a knife

Their first dance!! its a rather animated dance he twirls her around and lifts her up and all and its full of cheers

He also dances with pretty much all of his girlfriends, genya first. And with some little girls too. And with his mom of course.

They cut the cake together and zoya feeds him a bit of it on the same knife and he gets all messy cause i mean look its difficult to est a whole piece of cake from a knife. And he kisses her after and she gets cake all over herself too but its ok cause it tastes good. She picks a bit of cake from the corner of his lip and eats it.

The party gets.... intense okay..... very much so.... lots of stories to tell...... not all are child friendly.... theres also fire

Everyone gets tipsy. Drunk Genya is a delight she dances around a lot, with everyone, like, generals, commanders, nobles, and she compliments them all and fixes their hair and is very chatty

Of course she lets embarrassing stories about nikolai and zoya slip out "no colonel you dont understand i used to erase love bites from the kings chest back in the day" "well miss petrova the new queen seems uptight but ive seen her breasts probably more than anyone else in this room has, shes just like that with a couple of drinks on her, unlike me" "i know the king seems brave but if you put a spider in front of him hell scream like a 5 year old trust me ive seen it myself"

Tamar also talks a lot about their endeavors some of which shes included in. The kids seem fascinated by her and admire the king and new queen even more than before.

Young girls chat about how they wish they were the queen right now cause everything is so dreamlike and they seem so in love.

Nikolai eyes leoni and adrik cause adrik has gotten a bit drunk and hes reALLY trying to dance with leoni and shes just laughing and "oh saints they kiss" both he and zoya feel so proud of them

a couple of drinks in zoya steals sweets from everyone 😔 she feeds a couple to nikolai too

At some point nikolai and zoya just disappear 😶 but the party continues and it gets even crazier

But Nikolai and zoya share one last dance far from the party surrounded by flowers and a chilly breeze. At this point her shoes are off and shes holding her crown in her arm, she rests her head on nikolais chest and his heart is pOUnding. She cant quite believe this isnt a dream.

And she tries on his crown 👁 it looks weirdly good

Oooh she also keeps her last name. Welcome to the Lantsov-Nazyalensky dynasty?

Now that shes officially a queen she jokingly orders nikolai and the triumvirate around, starting at the wedding "tamar as your queen i order you to bring me more champaigne" "david im signing a law right now for you to cut your hair every month"

he does it to nikolai too the next morning while still in bed shes like nikolai as your queen i order you to bring me a tea and bath salts will ya and hes like ok but as your king i order you to give me a kiss 😌

The next day everyone is reading the cronicles of the wedding like its the most engaging romance novel ever cause its just!!!! so cute!!!! Theyre thE STANDARD

The Romance of Catherine and Owen

From Elis Gruffydd’s Chronicle of the Six Ages (1552)

This extract from Elis Gruffydd’s 16th century chronicle, Cronicl o Wech Oesoedd (Chronicle of the Six Ages), relays one of the popular theories of how Catherine de Valois, the Dowager Queen of England, met Owen Tudor, the Welsh squire who would become her second husband. In this version, Owen first comes to Catherine’s attention when she spies him bathing naked in a stream, and she later contrives to meet him in secret.

Catherine had been a widow for some years. The council forbade her to marry again, a prohibition which she openly resented. [1] At that time, a squire of Gwynedd, who was chief butler at court, [2] conceived an attachment for the queen's maid of honour.

One day in summer, he and his friends were bathing in the stream which skirts the castle walls. The Queen, observing them, saw that Owen — for that was the squire's name — surpassed the others in skill, and was more handsome of figure. Whereupon she turned to her maid and said, “Yonder then is thy lover?” “In truth,” replied the maid, “no sooner am I alone than he plagues me with his attentions.” “Let me,” replied Catherine, “take your place in disguise to-night, and he shall harass you no more.” 

Owen and the maid used to meet on the gallery not far from the queen's chamber. Thither the Queen made her way stealthily at nightfall. Owen had already arrived. Only a few words had passed between them when they saw a light approaching as though the Queen, as Owen thought, was on her way to her chamber. The maid's demeanour was strange, he thought, and he began to suspect that he was being deceived. He would have kissed her lips; but Catherine, who wished to conceal her face, struggled, and received a slight wound on her cheek. Meanwhile the light was coming nearer, and they parted. 

Next day Catherine instructed her chamberlain to command Owen to serve her in person at dinner. Then it was that Owen discovered that the Queen herself was the fair intruder, and he bent his head at the thought that he had wounded her. According to some, he would immediately have returned to his native land; according to others, the Queen herself detained him at court, and having ascertained his descent from the old British kings, married him secretly.

This translation from the original Welsh by J. Alban Morris can be found in Howell T. Evans’ seminal work, Wales and the Wars of the Roses (1905). Though a monumental literary achievement and wonderful example of Elizabethan Welsh language text, Elis Gruffydd’s Chronicle is “unreliable in many details.” For example, it claims that Owen Tudor was executed for marrying Catherine (he was executed in 1461 after the Battle of Mortimer’s Cross, twenty-four years after Catherine’s death), and that his marriage to Catherine took place in 1425 (it most likely took place in 1429).

There are no reliable accounts of how Owen and Catherine's romance began; there are, however, many poetical traditions. One of Owen’s contemporaries, the Welsh poet Ieuan Gethin (c.1390-1470), wrote that “on a feast day, [Owen] fell in love ... with the daughter of the king of the land of wine,” and that their meeting had been “energetic” and “passionate.” This accords with later English accounts that Owen first came to Catherine’s attention when he accidentally fell into her lap while dancing at a feast. The Elizabethan poet Michael Drayton (1563-1631) memorialised this event in his 1597 poem, Owen Tudor to Queen Katherine:

When in your presence I was call'd to dance, In loftie Tricks whilst I my selfe advance, And in a Turne, my footing fay I'd by hap, Was't not my chance to light into your lap? Who would not judge it fortunes greatest grace, Sith he must fall, to fall in such a place?

Another Elizabethan poet, Hugh Holland (1569-1633), wrote similarly:

His knee did hit against her softer thigh. I hope he felt no great hurt by the fall. That happy fall which mounted him so high.

However, as the historian R.A. Griffiths noted, “the pot-pourri of myth, romanticism, tradition and later anti-Tudor propaganda surrounding this match can rarely be substantiated with historical fact.” It would be unwise to take any of these accounts as a reliable record of the events precipitating Owen and Catherine’s romance, however appealing they may be.

[1] This refers to a parliamentary statute passed sometime between 13 October 1427 and 25 March 1428, prohibiting Dowager Queens of England from remarrying without the full consent of the king, which could only be granted once the king came of age. Any man who married a Dowager Queen without the king’s permission would forfeit his lands and possessions for the rest of his life. As Henry VI, Catherine’s son, was only six or seven years old at the time, she potentially faced another decade of widowhood. The statute was probably a response to a 1426 petition from the Commons— likely instigated by Catherine herself— requesting that hindrances to her remarriage be abolished; the petition was rejected and gave rise to the statute. It appears to have been passed with the agreement of both Henry VI’s Protector, his uncle Humphrey, Duke of Gloucester, and the de facto leader of the Regency Council, Humphrey’s adversary and half-uncle, Cardinal Henry Beaufort.

[2] The words “chief butler at court” appear to be an oversimplified and somewhat inaccurate translation from the original Welsh. Most scholars agree that Elis Gruffudd claimed that Owen had been Catherine’s “servant and sewer” (“yn wasanaethwr ac yn sewer”)— someone who serves dishes and tastes them. Although Elis Gruffydd’s source is unknown, his claim is not at odds with Henry VI's description of Owen as his “very dear friend and esquire” (“nostre tres cher ame et escuyer”). Owen was perhaps one of Catherine’s Esquires of the Household: a role which would have afforded him intimate access to the Queen. This also comports with the 15th century ‘Lincoln Roll’, which disparagingly refers to Owen as “a chamber servant.” The popular theory put forward by the Victorian writer Agnes Strickland (1796-1874)— that Owen specifically served as Catherine’s Master of the Wardrobe— does not appear to be substantiated. Nevertheless, it is almost certain that Owen served Catherine’s household and came to her attention that way.

I'm starting to post more about the Laoche Chronicles which is the sequel series to Storge - I've started outlining the first book in the series (yet untitled) and I'll likely be posting more about my development process in the near future. While it does follow Storge and take place in the same world, it is a sequel series that also takes place hundreds of years in the future and includes a new characters, settings, stakes, and lore. It's very different and so I don't want to tag you in stuff if you're exclusively here for the Storge content.

Bear Castle Cronicle - The Fall: Dark fantasy with something a bit like Roman Empire, but make it go through industrialization. Also eldritch spirits and blood magic. The story follows four now adult siblings who were separated after their very high status noble family was crushed in a domestic political struggle, by the empress mother. Includes trauma, war, revolutions, civil war or two, mountain-sized eldritch dragon, queerness and some fucked up rituals.

The Knight Wars: Gothic crime fantasy with murder mystery. This is just all the things I liked stuck together. There’s the Victorian-esque setting, knights, mafia war, assassins, Venice inspired city-state, sibyls, sentient library and illusion magic. The MC is ex-assassin, current detective, and she tries to unravel the murder of a crime lord’s son with his wife.

Beautiful Thighs Burn Brightly (Pirate WIP): Historical fiction with a dash of magical realism about the Golden Age of Piracy, the brief life of the Pirate Republic and the end tail of witch hunts, just so I could make a pirate witch.

The Shield-Maiden Saga (I’m just passively researching for it): Historical fantasy set in Viking Age Europe about a young girl, who wants to take vengeance on one of the most infamous viking lords and dresses as a boy and joins a viking crew to do it, and her life story basically. Includes dragons, elves, Sámi noaidi, wolf-curse, cursed sentient dwarf sword, weird old Finnish sage and supernatural storms.
