MOVIE RATINGS
Midsommar: 11/10
warnings: creative death, gore, sex, cults, drugs
rating: R
genre: horror, suspense, psychological
Oh my god. What the fuck did I just watch. It's creative, unique, and it's amazing, one of the best movies I think I've ever watched, but what just happened. A girl named Dani finds out her family was killed in the most strange unpredictable way ever. Her boyfriend is kind of sick of her, he wants to break up, but her family just died so he stays with her. Dani finds out that Christian (her boyfriend) is going to Sweden with his friends for a pagan midsummer event in two weeks and didn't tell her, and so he invites her because he felt bad. They get to Sweden and everything just goes downhill. The people she went with start disappearing, the people are acting strange, and Dani and Christian found out it's a cult with incredibly deadly and torturous rituals. The cinematography is great at keeping it unsettling and beautiful at the same time. The acting is amazing. The scenery is gorgeous. Everything is just so well put together. While it doesn't directly say and alot of people gloss over it, Midsommar is definitely a female rage movie. She's mad at her boyfriend and he isn't doing a and when she finds out the secrets you can feel her pain. Also the cult is weirdly empathetic. They feel with you. You're in pain? The scream along. You're in pleasure? They moan along. You're happy? They cheer along. It's very odd. I love this movie. My new favorite movie.

Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) - REVIEW
Tumblr media
youtube
Let's be honest, it felt rather inevitable that Deadpool and Wolverine would come together and it's everything you'd hoped it to be. Anyone worrying about the prospect of a Disney owned Deadpool generally needn't worry as this is every bit as R rated and edgy as the first two movies and likewise goes all out. Does it give the Marvel Cinematic Universe a much needed shot in the arm? Not really for me because it doesn't quite feel like an actual part of the MCU even though it casts aside most of the side characters from Deadpool 1 and 2. This film instead does what Spider-Man: No Way Home did in effectively using the Multiverse phase to do its own thing. Deadpool and Wolverine at the very least is a tribute and final send-off to the Fox era of comic book movies that started with 2000's X-Men.
Tumblr media
This still has plenty of fourth wall breaking quips from Ryan Reynold's Deadpool that pokes fun at everything from Hugh Jackman's perfect send-off in Logan, the Disney/Fox merger to even the state of the MCU itself. It never feels like it's ever being held back and is very funny from start to finish and most, if not all, of that comes down to Ryan Reynolds who has unquestionable mastered this role to perfection. But this movie has an added edge thanks to the return of Jackman's Wolverine who likewise has mastered his iconic character over the two decades. Reynolds and Jackman have incredible chemistry together whether they're working together, trading insults or fighting each other. The plot is a bit by the numbers that utilises the multiverse concept for some very fun moments that I won't spoil here but it is those moments that you'll remember rather than the plot. A big shout out should be given to Matthew Macfadyen's hilarious, villainous performance as Mr. Paradox. It's all terrific fun.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
VERDICT
Deadpool and Wolverine may not reinvent or save the MCU as such, but it is consistently funny, bloody and a terrific night out at the cinema. What more could you want?
4/5

DeadpoolAndWolverine (2024): Let's talk about the elephant in the room: the story is the weakest of all three, and while the stakes are high , they don't feel of any importance.
Now for the Best part: Where do I even begin? The opening credits sequence is the best in the MCU. This movie is the 'Multiverse of Madness' we deserved, a love letter to the Fox Universe delivered with a bang! It's hilarious from the start, filled with goosebumps and cheer-worthy moments. Yes, it's a sort of a cameo-fest, but of the best kind.
Lastly, let's talk about Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. Their banter is too good, the action is insane and the fan service is on another level. Hats off to @ShawnLevyDirect for pulling it all off and making one of the best movies in the MCU! DO NOT MISS IT!

Oh no... oh no!!
I started A First Rate Tragedy by Diana Preston (I KNOW I HAVE NOT FINISHED SHACKLES'S SOUTH AND MJ ROSS'S POLAR PIONEERS LEAVE ME ALONE I'M A POOR ADHD MESS and they're both rather dry authors)
Tumblr media
And... oh no! I... I like this Captain Scott character! I've always had a recounting of the story through exposés about Shackleton or Amundsen (and he is not always painted in the kindest light) but... oh no! I'm gonna be so sad by the end of it :(
Diana Preston really paints an endearing boy in his youth, the sort of little pest I would have loved to have known but also the anecdote about how he would take care of the passengers on the Amphion shows him to be compassionate as well.
Preston has a wonderful pen! It's not easy for me to read (I am a page jumper) but my eyes are glued to her sentences. I've always wondered why Scott, who had made so many mistakes and ultimately lost everything in the race was acclaimed and remembered so heroically and only through her introduction, Preston absolutely made me curious to review my perception.
I'm not far in just yet but I feel this is going to change me.

Reading Polar History 6/?
A First Rate Tragedy: Robert Falcon Scott and the Race to the South Pole by Diana Preston
Okay, okay, I understand why everyone is so into these guys now. Yes, they were flawed—in some cases, deeply—but it’s impossible not to be drawn in by their stories of adventure, camaraderie, and tragedy. This is a short book, yet the author manages to bring the Terra Nova crew to life, relying heavily on their own writings. From my perspective as a novice (so take it with a pinch of salt), their portrayals here feel believable. While Preston is clearly sympathetic to Robert Falcon Scott, she doesn’t let him off the hook for the poor planning and decision-making that ultimately contributed to the deaths of the Polar party. At the same time, she makes a good case that theirs was a complex situation, and that laying all the blame at Scott’s feet (as other historians have done) is unfair. At the end of the day, it really was a tragedy.
I have a copy of Cherry-Garrard’s The Worst Journey in the World on my shelf, which I plan on starting soon. If anyone has recommendations for other must-read Scott/Terra Nova books, I’d love to hear them!

MOVIE RATINGS
Lilja 4-ever: 8/10 would never watch again
warnings: rape (one on one, child sex trafficking, child prostitution), child suicide, drugs, abuse/neglect
rating: R
genre: crime, thriller
THIS MOVIE WAS SO FUCKING SAD. NO HAPPY BITS. THE ENDING MADE ME CRY. JK THE ENTIRE MOVIE MADE ME CRY. Amazing directing and acting. A 16 year old girl named Lilja and an 11 year old boy named Valadya both live in a extremely poor part of Russia. Liljas mom moves to America and leaves her behind to her neglectful aunt. Lilja has no money, her friend Natasha introduces her to prostitution. She makes money and is able to afford food again. Valadya was kicked out of his house by his abusive father and starts sleeping in a cold, abandoned building. They constantly dream about a better life together. One day, while Lilja was working, she meets a man who says he can bring her to Sweden where she'll get a real job as a gardener, she trusts him and leaves Valadya behind to go to Sweden. But, the man lied, and now Lilja is in a worse situation than before while Valadya is all alone, homeless, suicidal, and hungry back in Russia. (And don't tell anyone but there's a free version on YouTube)

Exploring the Multiverse: Deadpool and Wolverine in MCU | Action-Packed Comedy
Deadpool and Wolverine is exactly what you’d expect from a Deadpool film—chaotic, irreverent, and hilariously self-aware. But beneath the over-the-top violence and relentless humor, there’s an unexpected depth that gives this film more heart than its predecessors. The movie brilliantly weaves elements from the Loki series into the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), bringing Deadpool and…

A Room Away From the Wolves by Nova Ren Suma
"A girl should be allowed a fresh take when you meet her for the first time, shouldn't she? She shouldn't have to step into a room with her shoulders already burdened by old mistakes and the names she was called before."
Year Read: 2023
Rating: 2/5
About: When Bina runs away from home (and her mother's new marriage, bringing along some hideous new step-sisters), she runs to the boarding house in New York City where her mother stayed when she was younger to escape a bad relationship. However, Catherine House seems to be haunted by its original founder, and secrets lurk in its museum-like objects and strange tenants. If Bina wants to leave, she'll have to confront both the past and the present. Trigger warnings: character death, abusive relationships, violence, bullying.
Thoughts: For whatever reason, this never took off for me. If you're familiar with Suma's other books, you can more or less see where it's going, and the returns feel diminishing at this point. It just doesn't bring a lot of new ideas to the concept or do much to develop it, and the boarding house premise as well as the characters left me a little cold.
On the other hand, if you're very fond of Suma's work, this might be just the book for you. It hits all the usual suspects, from spooky happenings and an emphasis on disenfranchised populations (heavy on the female characters) to muddled timelines and unreliable narrators. Normally, I'm a fan of all those things, so had I connected more with Bina, I think it would have worked better for me.

Another older picture of Daiyu! I wanted to get across that they were tall, never got around to actually sketching out Zhongli in this.
I was still concepting their outfit before and after. This was somewhat of a filler outfit until I figured out what I wanted to do with em!

Happy Pride Month!🏳️‍🌈⚧✨
Finally I've done it!😆 I know that Pride Month is coming to an end, but I wanted to do it at the end of this event(I was actually busy with my university exams Xb).
Well, now you know every half of the Greenwood children!:
Alex x Nova Butterfly
Judy x Victoria Burnside(13 years)
Sandy x Jack Forest
Lily x Ferry(now they're just best friends)
You can also notice their sexual orientations:
Alex-asexual/straight(Alex was asexual until he met Nova, then he became straight)
Nova-straight
Judy-pansexual/lesbian(Judy is pansexual, but closer to lesbian)
Victoria-lesbian
Sandy and Jack-bisexual
Lily and Ferry aren't yet sexually oriented as they're still children, but hold the rainbow flag to commemorate this event(Lily actually likes the rainbow colour😋)
I know many people can write nasty things about this, since there are many homophobes and opponents of straights, but I think that this isn't the way to treat it! Everyone has their own choice and we must respect the opinions and choices of everyone! So I've included all my favourite sexual orientations to show that I respect everyone's opinions! Therefore, be polite to each other! I don't wanna anyone hurt anyone for this! After all, as it says: "LOVE IS LOVE!". We all love differently, but love always remains strong! >:3 And yep. By the way I'm bisexual and this is my choice! ¦3
💙Greenwood family, Jack Forest and its characters belong to: me, Mary White
🧡Victoria Burnside and Forestdale belong to: rated-r-ponystar and Nauyaco
💜Nova Butterfly(the Cosmic) belongs to: Shyhobbyistdrawer31
💚Ferry belongs to: my best friend, Chimi
