Well, I'll give you three guesses about where Inv comes from in the au, and the first two don't count.
#he uses his own music he composed himself though#not that specific pearl#also it ends up getting adopted by Suns' neighbor#who may or may not realize the mass ascension even happened#because they were too busy playing videogames#and also may or may not have figured out the triple affirmative#but chooses not to use it either way#also because of the videogames#inv managed to escape from pebbles' can#and he loses track of them#and then they just wander over to suns' neighbors' can eventually#no one bothers to tell them inv's origins#and pebbles also drops the track that serves as their blueprint#while only indirectly revealing that's what the track's true purpose is#dj five pebbles#dj five pebbles au#rain world

after like 34 hours of drawing my illustration of pearl n etho fighting in the ballroom arena is done!!! hope u guys like it!!

Was pondering how Mark’s rigid ass mask/lens is prob a Budget Thing (since squishy, bendy lens are pretty much a mandate for all hero animated series, like JL, BTAS, TNBA, Spider-Man, etc), and then I was slapped with a vision of Mark in a more JL/BTAS-ish style and I had to see it through. I am a genius btw.
#i had MANY thoughts while drawing my brain melted while posting so if ya have questions send 'em / ask 'em#but rapid fire: leans more into nightwing's look b/c bro's name is legit grayson + moves away from his father's sidekick/protege +#and legit has a blue and black outfit. that is soooo winking at robin (dick grayson specifically)#mark has a more casual / athletic fit and tried to keep his usual kicked puppy expression / mood#which then contrasts his more emotional (hero) side he acts upon when he's suited up as ANOTHER wink to the whole dual persona#mark does it unintentionally as he's eager to prove himself as invincible and thus more emotional/confidential/eager + feels lackluster#as just mark grayson.#but it's such a comic book trope it's interesting el show ignores the potential stakes for that + prob cause they dont focus on#villains#mark has debbie's cheek bones + pearls both so he skip the whole copy paste design tactic cartoons annoyingly use + wink at batman w/ pearl#nolan wears pink and debbie wears green b/c they have conflicting views on raising Mark but (used to?) stand on a somewhat#united front by having same collared shirt. but mark leans more on debbie's stuff visually w/ cooler colors + white shirt underneath#mark keeps his cape as another wink/nod at robins (tim drake TNBS specifically) which mimics his Dad + kid-like eagerness for hero stuff#which he gets rid off when he goes blue/black suit arc (cough cough nightwing looking ass) so just leaned MORE into it#mark has a heart on his chest because he's TRYING to do what he think he's best + emotional asf#lens/goggles are diff to keep the audiences' eye back at HIS eyes + look more ominous and predatory which the black/blue combo#already COULD do in canon but in show its just pallete swapped which ruins the more ominious look it probably intended#and doesnt really scream “OH NO! THERE'S NO GOLD! I feel that often, people really disregard bivalves (and other sessile animals absolutely) as just a little more than background objects, somewhere between a plant and a rock, when they’re fellow animals just like us. I mean I get it, a mussel siphoning in water all day is less engaging than like a songbird darting about the woods or a sheep that walks around and that you can pet. But they really aren’t at all just machines!
Last year I had the pleasure of meeting adult freshwater pearl mussels, who were being showcased to raise awareness about their endangerment and ecosystem services. They had a few mussels in these small tanks to show how quickly they can clean the water — I’m sure you’ve seen the setup, there’s one really cloudy tank and a clear tank that used to be cloudy a few hours ago, but is now clear thanks to the filtering made by the mussels! One of the tanks had a strange sight in it: two still mussels and one… flailing one. Its light leg was fully out and waving about, and its shell was sort of lodged in the corner, upside down. When my friends and I asked what the matter with the mussel was, it had apparently been unsatisfied with its place in the sand that the scientists had put it in, and while trying to figure out a nicer position it had accidentally flipped itself over! Poor guy couldn’t quite get out from the corner for a while ToT
#freshwater mussels also have a fascinating life cycle where they are parasites of fish for their first year or so#parasites! mussels! the freshwater pearl mussel is a parasite of salmonids specifically#once a salmon or a trout has them they never contract them again which is interesting. this hasnt really been researched when i asked -#about it; at least it hasnt been researched yet!#aquatic

I love how Etho has inherited Tango’s curse. With both Decked Out 2 and Ravager Rush:
Game with complicated redstone, elaborate decorations, great sound design, ravagers, and a score system culminating in a prize.
Took ages to build.
The Hermits love it! Your hard work has paid off. You can be proud of it.
The Hermits love it! All your time is now dedicated to bug-fixing, restocking supplies, adjusting features, and babysitting the game.
Is now a dedicated spot to hang out, parkour, and talk about random junk while waiting for the game to become available.
Runs eventually take an hour+ to achieve any significant score.
… but RR took Etho only a couple months to build and the Hermits 2 weeks to hack it. It’s like the speedrun version of DO2.
