Ponyboy didn't enjoy being at school any longer than he needed to. He hated the way Socs would stare at him, the band of girls who would start whispering to each other about him always put a pit of shame in his stomach. He just didn't understand them, and he hated that, it made him feel dumb, even weird at times.

All of that was worth it the second he saw your face beaming with determination, your eyes sparkling, and your hair braided. He sat beside you hours earlier while you did it, and watched your brows twitch in frustration when a few strands tangled at the very end. Pony liked to admire people but he loved to admire you.

"Strike two!"

The voice of the announcer rang out, crackling as the wind broke through the intercom. Pony's brow creased as he read the score board, the guest school had been in the lead for the past half hour. The atmosphere in the stands was intense, Pony was thankful in part. With everyone focused so intensely on the game, less eyes were on him.

"Out three!"

The crowd winced.

Pony spotted you, his face immediately relaxing when he scanned your grass stained uniform. That ambitious glint in your eyes brought an amused smirk to his face.

He sat back and watched the next batter up to swing, the final inning... He watched the tan girl clink her shoes, reel back her arms and swing.

Immediately you sprung into action, sprinting after the ball. He always worried about you, you had a tendency to bump into walls, skin your knees, and trip over air.

You went for it, leaping forward in hopes of catching the ball only for it to curve, barely grazing the tip of your glove before you were on the ground, scraping your arm against the prickly field. The only thing drowning out the stinging you felt in your body was the buzzing of the scoreboard.

You sat on the edge of the couch in the Curtis house. Darry's already put band-aids on your knees, and put an antiseptic on your arm. Ever the mother, he made sure you had dinner and instructed you and Pony to share the couch.

"Y/n, you did just fine.. You were amazing," Pony sighed, rubbing your back. "Why beat yourself up over it?"

You sighed, scooting back into the aged cushion of the couch. "I just.. If I had caught the stupid ball, maybe we could've won."

He chuckled, not at all fitting for the situation. That was something you'd groen to like about him, he had a strange concept of social cues.

"No way, besides you all those other girls were off today," He scooted over, wrapping his arm around your shoulders. His body heat immediately seeping into your skin.

"You think so?" You quirked, laying your head on his shoulder.

"Yeah, Darry says you're the best player."

You smiled, a soft noise of appreciation buzzes past your lips when his fingers find your hair, starting to play with it.

"I'm his favorite?"

"Don't push it," he smiled, watching you start to doze off on him.

"Stop being so hard on yourself, you hear me?"

"Yes, Pony.."

"Good," he leaned forward, pressing a soft kiss to your temple, "That's my girl."

The hot summer sun is practically burning your back

and your travel from your small village to Athens just started

sure you didn’t rly get out often but goddamn this hill was HUGE

you were sUPER anxious to sell your load of fruit

you needed more fabric so you can become a weaver

today wasn’t the greatest day to go out since it was pretty sunny

and there were no clouds to help the sun not bake you

you still walk up towards a hill, pulling rly rly rly rly heavy bags of fruit

your brows were getting all sweaty

by the time you’re nearing the peak you look up at the sun to check the time

Problem was there was no sun

you’re kinda like, “? uhm, is the sun god Helios on a break?”

“Damn—”

There’s a loud metal clunk and a scream from the top of the hill

You stop on your path, looking near the peak of the hill, wondering what the fuck THAT was

u see this weird and large, bright yellow glow, and you gasp softly

“Hello? Sanha if you’re over there I’m going to kill you!” the voice is loud, making you stumble back

but you fall back, squealing softly once you realize your balance is uneven due to the fruit

“Hello?” someone says, hearing your fall

you look at a huge chariot, in front are two pure white pegasus -pegasi? ack- and you pull away to pet them

you look at his face instead as you try to control yourself

so you nod, and he helps you sit on your bag, holding the reigns to the chariot

you and he are already WAY back up in the air, and the wind is cool and pretty friendly overall, despite the high height

“So, why Athens?” he ties to the reigns to the side of his gold chariot, sitting in front of you and taking your fruit

You gesture to the bag, standing up, “That, I uh, I need fabric to start to weave”

“you don’t have sheep? Gaia made all of that for you!” he pouts

you giggle from his pout, shaking your head, pointing to where your village was

“we’re too poor to afford that, so i grow the fruit,”

MJ stands up and widens his eyes, “What? I just ate and used your fruit for my horses! this won’t be enough!”

you try and explain to him it’s fine

like he’s a god why is he worried about you???

“no, listen, uh,” he leans over his chariot, to like the back of it where he keeps his harp

“i’ve had this for so long, usually we save this stuff for like heroes, but uh,” he hands it to you, and you can see it’s sme sort of gold colored silk

your mind rushes to all sorts of ideas to weave on it as he smiles, “if you cut a piece of it off, it regrows itself to be the same exact size as it’s first piece, it’s endless”

you dont even realize you’ve teared up when you embrace him, “I-I don’t even know what to say, this is the best gift Ive ever recieved!”

MJ turns RED and he hugs you too, nodding, “you deserve it,” he mumbles

you and he sort of just lay in each other’s arms for the rest of the day

the sun god makes you laugh so hard your stomach hurts

he even teases you when you snort, leaving you to never stop laughing

however, because of his speedy chariot, you’ve arrived to Athens already

by this time there’s only a few hours until MJ has to set his chariot off at his palace

he lands on a hill, and he helps you off

he secretly puts a charm on the bag so it’s not heavy for you to carry

“Myung Jun,” you say, and you smile wide when he turns pink as the dawn

literally his little sister, Eos is like a few hours away you can see her

“Thank you, for everything, I’ve never had any fun like this, and, I thank you for your gifts,”

MJ holds your hand, and his heart lurches to his throat

before you can pull away, MJ holds you close for another warm embrace

okay so, delaney grew up in lil old phoenix and tbh has yet to actually ever leave the place?? like ya girl is twenty-four and legit never took a vacay or anything to get out of the place smh.

started off with a lit family life, was the only child to mr. n mrs. whitmore and they adored their lil baby??  life was legit great until it wasn’t.

by that i mean that delaney was a colic baby and it drove her father INSANE, all the constant crying and whatnot legit just drove him up the fken walls. he couldn’t cope with it and tried to refrain from being around her as much as possible which wound up leaving mommy dearest to deal with it herself.

cutting to the chase, daddy discovered alcohol could numb his stress and welp……. helo addiction amiright. he began to drink to cope with the situation. which eventually, resulted in him getting fired from his job when he turned up to work entirely out of it. which unsurprisingly, only furthered his depressive state and need to sooth the pain with alcoholic substances.

it took years before delaney’s mother had had enough, packing her bags one day and walking out the door. it seemed she packed everything, wiped the house clean of anything that was once hers, that was, everything but delaney .

delaney waited legit for DAYS for mommy dearest to return and take her with her but?? she never did?? and it rly fucked her up a lot basically.

the whole situation forced delaney to become head of the house, considering her pops did nothing more than drink away his days and he had no job so basically whenever she was of age she was getting constant part-time jobs in stores, cafes you name it. she was never that fussed on school and tbh was often found ditching it to go and work instead.

because she was #poor asf she very quickly mingled with the wrong crowds, she’s basically the embodiment of the dirtbag aesthetic??

oh also, as i trigger warning-ed at the start, the more her pops progressed into his alcoholic state the more he started to just.. be a dick? like at first he would never have said shit to either his wife or daughter but at this point in life he’s just miserable and sitting around waiting to die so he’s constantly saying rly horrid things to delaney ?? and while she tries to put on a brave face it always leaves her feeling kinda messed up inside.

saying this, despite the fact she had finally saved enough to move out of her home n into a trashy apartment of her own; she hasn’t abandoned her father either, while she doesn’t know if she loves him or not anymore she feels like… a responsibility?? so for that reason she still checks in on him to make sure he has food and isn’t well.. dead.

quick shoutout @ her occupations. okay so, underground fighting? as i said she’s a literal dirtbag, so when ya girl realized that she could make money having people bet on her to fight she was like … fucking sign me up?? she’s been doing it since she was around eighteen/nineteen, and it was her main source of income for a long period of time.

she took it really seriously? and tbh still does, she has a makeshift punching bag in the corner of her shitty little apartment that has honestly seen better days.

however, one day the popo busted in on one of her particular fights and there was just.. a lotta arrests made that day like damn. sOoo, for a lil while she was put on parole in hopes that it’d help straighten her out and with that she was forced to get a solid job? which is how she wound up being a bartender also because really it was one of the only places that would actually hire her given the fact most considered her a lowkey criminal. 

still 100% does the underground fighting because she loves it sm okay. but she has to keep it on the low low because the popo are always watching her like a hawk.
