Alright! Update! Played Mission 3, 4 and 5 today!
@technoblade-apologist-and-proud (I think I have to tag you in every reblog so it shows up to you, sorry if I don't lmao)
First off starting by answering your reblog! 1. Playing with expert controls reminded me of playing with motion controls in splatoon, it's hard at first but you get much better if you start off like that! Also I love to truly learn a game's mechanics 2. Dw about explaining the story sksksksksk I have a general grasp bc a friend already talks about it to me! 3. I'm familiar with the OST bc this friend also sends a lot of it to me and man. It's great, all of it. 4. My friend also also warned me about the dlc placement so thankfully I was already aware, can't wait to get there Now to the notes! Mission 3 started off well and then Jezz Bezos showed up with his amazon drones. I played well this time, didn't die at all, even if I'm still playing like a drunken bastard.
Always love the post mission cutscenes, girlie pop is talking about her life and big plans with the cowboy music in the back and I don't even know her name, girl who are you. Also Mihaly's doctor is voiced by the same guy that voiced G1 Michigan from Armored Core 6, what the hell honestly. Also I want to know how was the development process to choose Mihaly's full name. Did each dev just say a last name out loud and they just kept writing? I need to know. It's too funny.
Mission 4's briefing scared me. I had no hopes for my future. I was certain I would die. I faked my pilot ID and was suffering the consequences.
Piloting between the radars was impressively fine tho. First time I got fucked by the wind and crashed into the sea for whichever time already, but the second time I was prepared and managed to get around easily, almost crashed on the city, but things turned out well.
Second part of the mission was alright too, I did crash into the sea AGAIN while only one target was left but I am learning. Maybe I'll get a real pilot ID before they find out mine is fake.
Third part right after went smoother, no crashing on the sea this time. My squadron is fucking useless tho they’re fighting for their lives up there and I’m also fighting for their lives. Horrible job everyone, hit the showers.
And then the end cutscene plays. My honest reaction:
NO, MOTHER GOOSE NOO THEY’RE ACCUSING ME OF CRIMES I DIDN’T COMMIT NOOOO JEFF BEZOS NOOOOOOOO THEY’RE GOING TO CONFISCATE MY FAKE ID
I WAS FOUND GUILTY??? HOW???
They sent me to fucking. Narkina 5 dude. Oh my god. All my hard work... My fake ID... It's jover.
Anyways. Mission 5 started smooth compared to the others, the start of not having to shoot was pretty good to try and feel the controllers better, now I’m flying somewhat decent. So much for losing my ID...
Second half of the mission was going fine but for the first time in this I actually got killed from being shot at and not from diving to the ground/sea. I’m getting,, better,, I think. At not hitting the ground, that is.
I was so concentrated on flying around and shooting that I didn’t pay attention on the objective and lost the mission.
Then I lost the mission twice again because??? Idk, I couldn’t kill the last target in time? It looked like it had time so I really don't know what happened there. I managed to finish it tho.
Seeing everyone fly like crazy with the lowpoly planes at the end was great tho... Finally... I have found my people... (Insane criminals... just like me...)
I *started* Mission 6 but didn't manage to finish it. They weren't kidding, Long Day is,, long,,,, For once I really wish I had motion controls here, I feel like it would do wonders to my aim,,, For another I'm struggling to properly hit a bunch of targets in a place at once because the mobility of a plane isn't the same of a mech + it's hard to stay still, one because it's a plane, two because even when I try there's MISSILES TRYING TO HIT ME so I can't really stay still.
I'm having,, so much fun tho. It's genuinely really fun even if the controls are nothing that I ever played before and I want to play it more.
Playing Ace Combat 7
Started playing the game today! I'll go little by little and updating this post through reblogs sksksksks
@technoblade-apologist-and-proud this is for you buddy, since you asked :] Starting with Mission 1 and 2 today
(Putting stuff on read more bc I get a little self concious of long posts)
First impressions of the game upon opening it: Menu music is beautiful "Wow this is so. Graphic design. Wow." upon seeing the actual menus "Why do we have cowboy music on the cutscene?" Girl talking about loving the color of the sky instantly made me remember the damn "Don't you love the color of the sky? / Which one?" classic tumblr post. "That plane looks like a tesla" upon seeing the drone in the cutscene Started laughing for a whole minute when rave music started playing in the plane selection screen before the mission.
Right out of the bat we start Mission 1 with DEATH from controller. I didn't know what to press and the screen only told me about R2 to accelerate so I killed myself by crashing on the end of the take off thingie. This was a warning to what was about to come.
I need to publicly apologize to every Ace Combat fan that has ever lived because inverted controls make me feel insane so I had to "invert" them back to normal. I am very sorry. I have failed you all. Don't look at me.
Anyways, first mission went TERRIBLY. WHO have me a license. I was DRUNK driving in the skies. Absolutely dogshit piloting skills. I didn't know it did a neat little replay of the mission at the end + the replay with the tiny lowpoly planes. Humiliating. Everyone was flying to neatly and I looked like I was using my plane for a ribbon dance.
As someone that played Drakengard on the ps2 and Armored Core on the ps4: Piloting a plane is much more similar to riding a dragon than piloting a mech.
There's a lot going on in the cutscenes, the story seems cool and I have an idea of it already but by god they just feel so goofy sometimes, very silly, I am very lost.
Second mission started terribly as well, I still fly like I'm drunk, I died at least 5 times because I turned a little too much and crashed on the ground. At some point when I was managing to stay alive I thought I was gonna fail from the time running out because I just couldn't hit the targets.
Also. Did you know? In Armored Core you press X, Square and O for boosting and movement, and L1/L2 R1/R2 for your weapons. Ace Combat is the opposite. I've been playing Armored Core for a month already. My brain is having a hard time trying to grasp the controllers, somebody help me.
Second half of this mission went better than the first half bc I *am* learning but by god. I died once because I hit the ground again, I keep doing it, my pilot craves the safety of the ground. It was a nightmare trying to get to the targets to properly hit them but I did manage to do it.
All and all? Game is pretty fun! It will be a challenge to actually learn how to play, specially with expert controls, but that's the fun of every game, learning and mastering!
Had to stop for today but I'll reblog this once I play more :]

This is the Tale of Captain Jack Sparrow
Disney has a new mobile game coming out soon, “Disney Mirrorverse,” which reimagines beloved Disney characters in the style of an RPG. This tends to translate to “here’s this character but with armor,” or “here’s this character but with a fantasy outfit.” Of course, being Disney, there’s some toys out for this game already, because a series doesn’t have to be released yet for Disney to already be out for that sweet, sweet cash. And because I loved the character, I thought that this week, we’d take a look at Disney Mirrorverse Jack Sparrow.
For anyone who somehow hasn’t seen the movies or even heard of them, Jack Sparrow is the drunken anti-hero protagonist of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies, based off the Disney ride. It’s debatable how much of his success is down to being clever and how much of it is just luck, but there’s at least a little of both in there. I loved the first two movies, and I am aware there are other movies, which is all I’ll be saying on the matter.
The Disney Mirrorverse figures are made by McFarlane Toys, a company known for well-detailed toys aimed at the collector’s market. If ever you’ve seen toys for the “Spawn” franchise, that’s this company. They also manufacture DC’s “DC Multiverse” line of collector’s toys, which are meant to be DC’s latest answer to Marvel Legends. So if you’re familiar with any of that, you know what you’re getting into and the rest of this review won’t be that surprising.
From the day he was born, he yearned for adventure
Lemme just start by saying that Jack looks gorgeous. This is, not surprisingly, a very lovely toy. Jack’s wearing an outfit definitely fitting a pirate captain and has a cocky look on his face, which works so well for the character. One of his arms is a skeleton arm, fitting the conclusion of the first movie, where Jack becomes undead for a bit, and that actually does lead to a complaint with the looks of this toy. The length of the arm’s actually greater than that of his flesh-and-blood arm. I have no issue with it being smaller, because it’s a skeleton arm and is missing the coat sleeve and any meat that would bulk it up, but it is a bit annoying to me to see that the arm’s somehow longer than the regular arm.
Raven locks sway on the ocean's breeze
In terms of accessories, Jack doesn’t have too much. He has a stand, a card that I expect will go with the game when it is released, and some purple magic energy that can wrap around his skeleton arm. Personally, I’d have loved a sword, but beggars can’t be choosers. Getting the energy around the arm can be a pain, but it tends to stay when it’s on. Just note that once it’s on, you can’t move the elbow.
Most of Jack’s outfit, especially his coat, is molded from a really soft plastic. Ideally, this is to help the coat be able to move with the toy when you pose him, though results tend to vary when toy companies try this. The thing is, though, Jack has terrible balance, even with his stand, so there’s not a lot of poses you’ll be able to actually do without Jack falling over, something the base often has trouble preventing unless you prop him against a wall or adjust his ankles just right.
He's The Pauper of The Surf, The Jester of Tortuga
Jack does have a lot of articulation, which is pretty great. I was worried the smaller elbow joint on his skeleton arm would be a problem, but I was thankfully wrong. Just remember that he’ll probably fall over easily no matter the pose he’s in. Though, considering how much he drinks in the movies, “face down on the ground” is actually a decent pose for him.
Sir Captain Jack lives on in you and me
This figure is meant for collectors, and even the recommended age on the box is 12+. So even though this is a Disney toy you’ll be able to get in the toy aisle, think twice before giving him to a kid. He’s really meant to be put on a shelf and displayed, and he doesn’t have a ton of accessories, so do keep that in mind before buying him, especially since he tends to be around $20. I’d recommend him for teens and adults who like the movies, and definitely not kids. I’m signing off now and wishing you happy toy hunting!

Spring Anime 2018: Lightning round
I didn’t get around to full writeups this season, but here’s the condensed version. It’s a weak season (the weakest in years) with very few surprises anyway.
3D Kanojo Real Girl
What: Otaku loser lucks into girlfriend.
+ Loser is actually a loser, and how
+ Heart seems to be in the right place
- Writing is clunky
- - some of the most amateurish production values this side of Clione no Akari and I don’t think this is made by one guy
Verdict: no
Akkun to Kanojo
What: Short. A guy is rude to his naively cute girlfriend and then stalks her.
- - Creepy, unfunny and dumb
Verdict: naw
Amanchu! Advance
What: Sequel. Ostentatious anime characters enjoy chilling on the beach.
+ Actually chill most of the time
+ looks and sounds good
+ somehow even more gay than before
- - @_@
- - 8D
Verdict: I watched the first season and enjoyed it more than not, so I might as well.
Alice or Alice
What: Short. Siscon 4koma comedy with a lot of fanservice.
- - Creepier, unfunnier and dumber
Verdict: hell naw
Butlers: Chitose Momotose Monogatari
What: Best I can say is that it’s an otome instaharem of shounen fightmen invading Marimite.
+ makes so little sense it’s sometimes funny
- makes so little sense it’s mostly just baffling
- little chance to become legit
Verdict: nope
Caligula
What: What indeed. Virtual idols overwrite reality, a Persona clone ensues.
+ Denpa stuff is actually disorientating and creepy
+ Makes somehow even less sense than Butlers and in a more funny way to boot.
- Still a bunch of nonsense that will probably not pay off in the long run
- - Protagonist spends the first episode being a Sagrada Reset-class blahmancer.
Verdict: 3 ep rule since it’s still a better Persona than the actual Persona and the dude has little time to do stoner philosophy once shit hits the fan
Comic Girls
What: Hidamari Sketch without the charm, a basic comedic Kiraralike where the joke is that the girls embody manga genres.
+ High production values, pleasant to look at
- Typical Kiraralike cast with little personality besides the blindingly obvious
- - Full of jokes that get old before the setup even starts
Verdict: Not worth it
Cutie Honey Universe
What: Ancient proto-mahou shoujo series by Go Nagai gets its fourth or so anime adaptation.
+ Some choice sakuga cuts
+ Generous helpings of Go Nagai sleaze at its finest
- Design is a weird mishmash of current and 70s
- Does not even attempt to explain anything about the show
Verdict: Mainly aimed at existing fans, of which I am not one. If it turns out to be a classic I’ll hear about it
Devils Line
What: Some Tokyo Ghoul-ish thing about the vampyr police.
+ Probably not half a dumbass fighting shounen
+ nothing too offensive
- nothing particularly interesting either
- looks are completely bland
Verdict: I have already forgotten everything about this
Dorei-ku The Animation
What: Magical devices gives people mind control powers. Everyone’s an asshole.
+ Some actually good character writing
- Trying to be Kakegurui and failing, just too tame for its outrageous conceit
Verdict: Has potential but doesn’t appear to take advantage of it
Full Metal Panic! Invisible Victory
What: Sequel to FMP and it’s still FMP.
+ More serious than basic FMP
- FMP is inherently too silly to attempt seriousness
Verdict: Fumoffu is the only acceptable FMP
Fumikiri Jikan
What: Short about couples(?) at a railroad crossing
+ Reminds me of Tsuredure Children
+ Seems a bit more clever than the usual comedy short
Verdict: At 3m/week, why not
Gegege no Kitarou
What: Truly prehistoric spoopy manga for children about kids who fight youkai.
+ Actually a little spooky
+ Nekomusume
+ Unapologetically for children, but with oldschool charm
+ Does a good job of modernizing the subject matter
Verdict: Pretty good, I’m in
Golden Kamuy
What: Taciturn Ainu girl and tough guy hang around in frozen 1900s Hokkaido to nab some gold.
+ at least sounds like it could have potential
- Does a good job of making its unique setting seem not particularly interesting
- not as bad looking as incensed manga fans allege, but certainly not a feast for the eyes
- okay, that CG bear tho
- - I’m not feeling much character chemistry, which is an absolute killer for this specific setup
Verdict: Probably not
Gurazeni
What: Mediocre baseball pro plans his retirement money
+ not actually about baseball much
- - actually about baseball finances, which is even less interesting
Verdict: Weird but not in a good way
Hinamatsuri
What: Dadfeels show about a yakuza middle manager that gets a girl with superpowers dropped on his head.
+ Nitta being a yakuza thug makes for good comedy
+ Seems way less wish-fulfilmenty than most shows of this type
- Yeah speaking of which, could lose itself in Maidragon-style sameyness
Verdict: I’m feeling it for now
Hisone to Masotan
What: Air Force clerk becomes dragon pilot/emergency food supply. Yeah, the Japanese Air Force secretly has a dragon squad masquerading as F-15s.
++ Psychedelically unhinged dragon vore bonanza
++ Looks really great
+ Secretly a mecha show, but without mecha baggage; Kawamori is involved and it shows.
+ Mari Okada writing means strong characters
- Mari Okada writing means high chance of eventually going into the weeds
Verdict: Either way this is going to be a ride
Isekai Izakaya - Koto Aitheria no Izakaya Nobu
What: Another anime about a Japanese restaurant that connects to a fantasy world.
- Less interested in worldbuilding than Shokudou, and yes I actually enjoyed that aspect
- 100% about Japanese barfood instead
- Weak to nonexistant characters
- - styled like Japanese daytime television, hope you enjoy text plastered all over the screen
Verdict: Isekai Shokudou S2 where
Juushinki Pandora
What: Postapocalyptic robot vs. space monsters fights for the Chinese market.
- Just a bunch of anime characters doing anime things
- - truly hideous
Verdict: I’d rather watch MuvLuv and I’m not watching MuvLuv either
Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi
What: Bland girl gets transported to youkai world where she gets macked on by the boss and opens a restaurant.
- Barebones otome harem setup, though shockingly not based on a Vita game
- another fucking cooking show
- - Nothing’s romantic like possessive creepy assholes
Verdict: Nope.
Last Period - Owarinaki Rasen no Monogatari
What: Mobile RPG adaptation that advertises the game to you while making jokes how terrible gacha and grind is. Hey, Konosuba was popular right?
+ Certainly ballsy
- not really funny besides that
- - I already know mobile RPGs suck, but thanks for the heads up
Verdict: Fuck off and take your smug with you
Legend of the Galactic Heroes - Die Neue These
What: Spess men playing spess chess in spess.
+ Credible and respectable
+ Makes LoGH ultrafans mad because it’s not ugly enough
- space war seems like a video game, both visually and tonally
- if it adapts the whole thing, it will take forever
Verdict: Promising, but there’s always the old one which is at least complete. No reason to watch this particular version right now.
Lupin III Part V
What: Lupin is in ur cloud, stealin ur bitcoins.
++ Classic Lupin feel
++ Ruthless modernization of the bells and whistles keeps it from feeling overly familiar like Part 4
- Comes across as desperate occasionally
- Action is extra unexciting for some reason
- Looks nowhere near as good as Part 4
Verdict: It’s entertaining, so why not
Mahou Shoujo Ore
What: Comedy about a bad wannabe idol that works as a buff male mahou shoujo for the yakuza.
+ Core idea is amusing
- - spends most of the time on anything but the core idea, such as hilariously pointing out how it is indeed a cartoon
Verdict: I’ve tried and not picked up much better mahou shoujo parodies
Mahou Shoujo Site
What: Girl is bullied all day at school and beaten up all night at home, becomes a magical school shooter
+ Certainly effective at setting a, um, “particular” mood
- - relentlessly mean and nasty
- - simply no fun at all, with little reason to believe that that’s going to pay off
Verdict: Not looking for a bad time right now.
Megalo Box
What: Classic underdog sports story about a boxing jobber looking for the big break, now with more cyborgs.
++ looks amazing
++ cinematic-level direction and storyboarding
+ doesn’t reinvent the wheel as far as story goes, but it’s classic for a reason
- Overreliance on dog metaphors is already getting out of hand
Verdict: Would be stupid not to watch this
Nil Admirari no Tenbin - Teito Genwaku Kitan
What: Actual PS Vita otome harem about a bland girl with the power to see evil books, which impresses a bunch of handsome combat librarians.
- takes itself far too seriously
- not a looker
- I can’t remember a single character
- - pacing is criminally turgid
Verdict: I know better otome harems.
Omae wa Mada Gunma wo Shiranai
What: 4koma short about how Gunma is weird and Gunma people are even weirder.
+ It’s like a bizarre perversion of a tourism anime
- 4koma jokes
Verdict: Mmmmmmmaybe?
Persona 5 the Animation
What: High school kid finds himself in a weird woke fever dream. It’s P5, you know what it be.
+ Kawakami
- P5 is too known and too long to make a good anime
- serious issues don’t work with the residual Persona silliness
- Not very well made
Verdict: I’d rather watch a LP (or Caligula)
Rokuhoudou Yotsuiro Biyori
What: Chill boys run a chill cafe
+ very chill indeed, totally works as iyashikei
+ characters are all likeable, even brings the moe in an ikemen show
+ Suwabe! With glasses!
- Iyashikei always has potential to drift into boring sludge
Verdict: I’ll take that chance
Saredo Tsumibito wa Ryuu to Odoru
What: JRPG dudes fight monsters and argue about payment
+ Opening narration is so stupid it made me laugh
+ No seriously, “we changed the Planck constant and now there’s fucking dragons everywhere”
+ a few decent buddy cop moments
- - Rest of the show is just as stupid, but the laughter went away
Verdict: Durr hurr
Souten no Ken Re-Genesis
What: CG men with no neck make frowny faces at each other
- story is vague and hard to follow while at the same time just being an excuse for poses and fights
- - looks like an absolute butt
Verdict: stay far away
Steins Gate 0
What: Sequel. Okabe is sad that Chris is dead.
+ Epic twists will be coming... eventually.
+ Punished Okabe is a better character than he ever was before
- - Rest of the cast is still a bunch of hateable wankers, and even Okabe will be going back to his catchphrase eventually
- - nothing happens in the first two episodes besides establishing that Chris is a Tamagotchi now
Verdict: Possibly a hatewatch but seems to be too dull for even that.
Sword Art Online Alternative - Gun Gale Online
What: Catgirl with pink P90 totally puts serious operators in the PWN ZONE.
+ Main character’s IRL identity seems funny
+ evades most of the memetic SAO failings
- adds a lot of failings of its own
- egregious gun- & tacticool wank
- - boring as shit
Verdict: yeah, guess
Tachibanakan To Lie Angle
What: Unimaginative fanservice 4koma short, but this time it’s yuri so that makes it okay.
- - no, it doesn’t
Verdict: *snore*
Tada-kun wa Koi wo Shinai
What: Regular Anime Dude™ chances upon a weeaboo princess from Europe and her weeaboo bodyguard.
+ Looks real nice, Doga Kobo delivers
+ anime original, so there’s a chance of it ever going anywhere
- Just about the least interesting setup ever
- - comic relief guy friend is tremendously annoying
Verdict: Nozaki-kun was better.
Uchuu Senkan Tiramisu
What: Short. Some sort of mecha parody.
+ Gundamian masterpiece names like “Vulgar Hummer” and “Pubic Hair”
- not actually funny beyond that
- - at all
Verdict: Seems totally pointless, but what do I know about anime comedy
Uma Musume - Pretty Derby
What: School sports show about horse girls that are also idols
+ Premium production by PA Works
+ Lively and colorful
- awful, overwrought gacha game character designs
- characters are as generic as they come
- the setup is just Kancolle again, but without the “escort” pun
- something this wacky shouldn’t be so predictable and boring
Verdict: 3 ep rule, but 3 eps have passed and it didn’t grab me. So no.
Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii
What: Adult otaku meet at work, fail powerlevel stealth check, fall in love.
+ Well written characters once you look past their gimmick
+ Much more respectable than most shows with this exact idea
+ Doesn’t lean on references
- Will have to put in some hard work to make it last
Verdict: I don’t want to like it, but I do. At least so far.

VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION: I remember reading 'grifting' in one meme and now need to know everything about her schemes, behaviour and general con-artistry!
I’m so glad you asked this because it made me sit down and iron out exactly what kind of cons Volt pulls - thank you!
The vast majority of Volt’s scams are short-term by necessity. Not only are people guaranteed to figure out that she ripped them off (eventually), she is also a drifter, never staying in one city too long. Therefore, anything she pulls has to:
- be mobile- need little equipment- result in easily transportable payouts- be reasonably off-the-grid
So no “I am the Prince of Wakanda and I need…” foreign banking, phishing scams. Behind the cut is a list of the scams she’s pulled/continues to pull/will pull most often.
- Totally Baloney Bills -
Challenges: Requires a decent chunk of change.Requires a PO box. Can’t be done in person.
Technique:Volt scrounges up enough cash to pay for dry-cleaning on the one (1) professional-looking second-hand blazer she grabbed for 99c at a thrift store that says ‘dry-clean only’ on the tag. (She never actually wears this blazer. She wraps it in a plastic bag and keeps it at the bottom of her backpack solely for this purpose.)
Approaches drycleaner.Drycleans blazer.Acquired: Receipt (mission item)!
She then walks her butt down to the nearest place with an accessible copy machine, usually a public library. If she can get free copies somehow, all the better, but if she’s gotta zap a vending machine for change she WILL do it.
Acquired: Dozens of receipt copies!
Then, with the help of free wi-fi, she identifies all of the luxury/expensive restaurants in town, buys some stamps (using her ill-gotten change), and mails a receipt copy along with an irate, handwritten note about how their AWFUL servers spilled [insert food or beverage] all over her beautiful clothing! It was all their fault that she needed drycleaning! If they EVER want her patronage (and her friends) again, they’d better compensate her right away at the listed PO Box!!!
Success rate: Moderate to low. Difficult to pressure people from a distance. Still usually rakes in more than enough moolah and gift certificates for free! food! to make it worthwhile.
Risk: If anyone catches on before she’s abandoned the PO Box, she needs to skedaddle right quick.
- Money Merry-go-round Boogaloo -
Challenges: Very rapid, can’t give clerk time to think.Probably going to be caught on camera even if she zippy-zaps it because odds are decent it will see her before she sees it.Definitely only works once per gas station chain per town.Requires cash.
Technique:Volt moseys into a gas station and asks them to swap her $20 for some change, probably while buying something small in the process like a snack. Through a series of confusing requests, she manages to walk away with an extra $10.
I wish I could explain this con, but my brain absolutely breaks when it comes to translating math into words. I can DO math, I can write, but I *can’t* write about math. I really wish I could because it would’ve significantly simplified my math classes. Bah! Here is a video to help explain what I cannot:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Uaw88H0AmE&feature=youtu.be&t=1m2s
Success rate: Pretty high, but only generates $10 a go. Not very profitable without a set of wheels to hit every station in town (which would then result in her license plate being recorded) and the risk of being caught increases the higher denomination of bills she uses.
Risk: Middling to low. Even if someone is bright and catches onto the transactions, she can still plead ignorance and claim to be confused. Downside being that if someone doesn’t buy her story, they have her on camera, dead to rights.
- GOD OF THUNDER AND LIGHTNING -
Challenges: Needs technical equipment! While she can easily make a basic circuit, crafting a hollowed out hammer is beyond her. She needs someone else’s help to get this one rolling.Probably going to be put up on youtube at LEAST once; any record is a bad record, in Volt’s book.Someone’s probably going to call the cops or Sentinel Services, depending on how well she can talk her way out of the situation.
Technique:Last, but certainly not least, this is my favourite con on the books that she has not had the opportunity to pull yet. It requires time and a piece of custom equipment, but mark my words, Volt is aiming to pull this as soon as she can get everything she needs and then she’s unlikely to stop pulling it until Sentinel Services come looking.
To do this, she needs to make a heavy, sturdy hammer containing a magnet, a simple, internal electrical circuit to engage/disengage the magnet at will, and a fixed metal surface somewhere with a lot of public foot traffic.
She waves the hammer aloft, shouting at the top of her lungs as people pass by: “BEHOLD MJOLNIR! ONLY WIELDABLE BY THE WORTHY! I HAVE PROVEN MY WORTH TO THE GOD OF THUNDER - CAN YOU SAY THE SAME?!” and as people come by, she’ll challenge them to bet money that they can pick up the hammer. After all, she’s swinging it around like it’s nothing, and she’s a scrappy young lady. What’s to lose, right?
So she sets the hammer down on the metal surface and engages the internal circuit with a little jolt of her signature electricity and sits back to laugh and collect money as anyone besides her struggles to lift it. (Sometimes she might let kids or a little elderly person lift it just to taunt the stronger folks. Plus it’s really cute to see them get excited about it.)
Volt is inspired to do this, of course, by someone who did it for fun; her mutant abilities just allow her to make it a little more foolproof and, of course, get some sweet, sweet cash in the process. Again, not great for the long-term as someone will either call the cops or eventually accuse her of being a mutant, so it’s something she would pull to scrape together enough dough for the bus ride out of town.
Success Rate: High! People tend to know they’re being conned somehow by betting street games, but the entertainment value is typically high enough that they don’t mind. Much like a magic show, they willingly sign up to participate and only a rare few get actually angry (and hey, she can always refund the super hostile ones.)
Risks: Smartphones. Somebody’s eventually putting this on youtube. Not the worst thing in the world, but if too many people do it then suddenly she’s much more easily identifiable and traceable.
Additionally, if anyone calls the cops (for somethingsomething without a permit) or Sentinel Services (because they don’t quite grasp science or magic shows/heightened suspicion/paranoia of mutant), Volt is in maaaajor trouble.
#egctism#aaaaaaaa this was so much fun#I had a blast researching and figuring out how she'd pull them

Final Thoughts - Spring 2018
Oh, I am so very late on this one, but in my defense, I did warn that I had too much to watch during the spring, so much so that I actually have to have MAL open in another tab while I’m writing this just to remember everything.
I’ll start with what I skipped.
* Tokyo Ghoul:re, FLCL Alternative, Hozuki’s Coolheadedness Season 2 and High School DxD Hero because I have neither watched the previous seasons nor read the manga.
* Cutie Honey Universe and Gurazeni because by the time I would have gotten to them, I had only heard bad things.
* Dragon Pilot: Hisone to Masotan because Netflix picked it up and we’ll have to wait until September for it.
* Gegege no Kitaro because I didn’t hear any buzz about it and frequently forget that it even exists, I’ll get around to it if enough people ask me to.
* Full Metal Panic! Invisible Victory because Funimation has inexplicably removed the dub from VRV and that’s how I want to experience it.
* Kakuriyo: Bed and Breakfast for Spirits because I already watched Konohana Kitan and didn’t see much of a difference.
* Captain Tsubasa because Viz licensed it and then just kinda sat on it everywhere except the Philippines.
* Inazuma Eleven because it just went completely unlicensed/unloved.
So, with those out of the way, from the bottom to the top, here’s everything I did manage this season.
Worst of the Season: Fist of the Blue Sky Re:Genesis (2/10)
Oh my god, it’s just the ugliest thing this side of Berserk. I don’t remember a damn thing about this one, and I’d bet that most people who watched it are with me on this one, because I was just distracted by how astoundingly awful the CG production in this show is.
Butlers x Battlers (3/10)
Ugh, what a boring slog of a premiere. I still pretty vividly remember this one, if only because it’s so painfully generic that it swung all the way around to be memorable again. Butlers spent almost its entire first episode on absolutely nothing before remembering in the last five minutes that it was supposed to have a plot and smash-cutting to it in the middle of a scene.
Caligula (3/10)
Where to start? After one of the most interesting premieres of the season, this adaptation pretty immediately sank into complete nonsense, and it’s such a massive waste of potential that this was the work of the writers behind the original Persona titles. Caligula is a show where the main characters literally forget the plot is happening and decide to go to a theme park while they’re trapped in a virtual world with a bunch of digi-zombies trying to murder them. Are you kidding me?
Devils’ Line (3/10)
I just did my write-up for this, so it’s a little fresher in my mind, but honestly, it’s just Twilight with adults and the edge factor turned up, and it looks damn silly trying to be as serious as it is. Sentai needs to choose a little more carefully than this if they want to promote their new service.
Libra of Nil Admirari (3/10)
This one was just so boring to look at that I don’t remember anything except that books were evil and it was a visual novel adaptation.
Dances With the Dragons (4/10)
I’m aware that I use the word “generic” an awful lot, but this season’s worst had quite a lot of that quality, and it applies here, too. Trying its hardest to be a mid-aughts grimdark action piece, it just does almost nothing interesting in its premiere, aside from giving the protagonist an already-existing girlfriend, which may have just been an attempt to quell any yaoi-baiting the two main dudes have going for them, because her only qualities demonstrated were “can’t cook” and “looks hot”.
Real Girl (4/10)
As I said in my write-up, I wanted so badly to like this one, but you need a budget of more than fifty cents to make an anime, and nearly every shot betrays just how little the studio was working with. We’re talking about the kind of show where the main cast goes to a summer festival, and appear to be the only people there. The story and writing just aren’t enough to make me put up with it.
Gundam Build Divers (4/10)
What a total letdown from this franchise. Fighters was an incredibly well-written show that was aimed at kids but could appeal to all Gundam fans, Try was divisive but the people that liked it (like me) got a lot out of it, but Divers just flounders. A relatively decent first episode gives way to episode after episode of Villain of the Week shenanigans that I cannot bring myself to care about because the main cast just aren’t interesting; they’re pretty much just generic shonen cardboard cutouts. This was one case where I was almost hoping for a sudden death game turnaround, because the idea of a bunch of kids being trapped in a game with lots of adults and giant robots would at least be a workable plot, but just fighting Team Rocket over and over again is boring schlock.
Magical Girl Ore (4/10)
I held out hope for too long on this one, but I had an inkling from the beginning that the humor was just going to turn me way, way off, and I was right. This one just carried too many bad implications if you thought about it, and they all piled up and crashed down on me the more I tried to keep going.
Magical Girl Site (4/10)
This show just couldn’t stay above water. The writing only got dumber as the plot carried on, and the fact that I was still watching became embarrassing, because most of the community watched one episode of this and dropped it like a hot rock. Hopefully I’ve learned my lesson.
Darling in the FRANXX (5/10)
What total bull, huh? I’ve never seen public opinion on a show turn around as fast as the community ripped Darling to shreds. While it’s visually gorgeous (most of the time), the writing in the second half of the show is just humiliating to everyone involved, as the script becomes a child Godzilla-stomping through a carefully-constructed castle of wood blocks. Once again, I yearn for Inferno Cop.
Persona 5 the Animation (5/10)
I said for the longest time during the lead-up to P5A that I didn’t really see the point of it. Persona 5 is the fastest-selling game in the franchise, and ultimately an adaptation would only serve to recap the plot, because that’s all it would have time to do in only six months. I actually enjoyed Persona 4 The Golden Animation, because it sold itself as a companion piece to the existing plot rather than a retread of it, and seeing the Scooby Gang just hanging out more was precisely what I wanted from it. A-1 Pictures just didn’t learn enough from the sins of Ace Attorney, because while this is better, it’s still not worth watching if you’ve played the game.
Last Period (5/10)
This one got some early buzz for halfway-decent production work and a skewering of gacha-based RPGs, but ultimately ended up repeating itself so often that it became boring, and sidelining the highlight of the show (the villain trio Wiseman) into having barely a few lines per episode. Just goes to show what happens when repeated gags get stale.
Now that those are out of the way, we can get to the stuff I actually finished!
Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These (6/10)
Barely worth watching for how badly condensed the plot is, and barely worth talking about until the movies happen. That’s assuming we actually get them stateside, but I won’t hold my breath on that one. I coulodn’t even find a decent GIF for this one.
Crossing Time (6/10)
A fun, yet not especially memorable set of vignettes about people waiting for the train to go by. Some of the episodes were less enjoyable than others, but still worth a watch if only because it’ll only take you half an hour and anything you don’t like will probably be over quickly.
Golden Kamuy (6/10)
The last thing I finished for the season, Golden Kamuy’s failure to live up to high expectations lies in its inability to focus on its serious tone, constantly inserting dick jokes into its brutal fight scenes and dragging a poop joke on for entirely too long throughout the show, but it’s still good-looking enough to be worth watching, and it was the only decent show this season to pull out the announcement of a continuation in its last episode, without which it probably wouldn’t have gotten a pass from me.
Umamusume: Pretty Derby (7/10)
I still am amazed by the legwork that went into this silly little mobile game adaptation. While parts of it remain half-assed and unnecessary (the random idol performances being at the top of that list), it’s still a competently-written story about a protagonist who won’t let anything stop her from being The Very Best Like No One Ever Was, and I never get tired of that. The constant timeskips do get a little hard to keep track of, though.
Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku (7/10)
This one could have been improved by just tweaking a few things. While the characters were endearing and the comedy on-point, the story needed a little interference just so that we didn’t end the final episode in pretty much the same place as the second, because I didn’t get any sense of progress in the main relationship. Still, totally worth a watch if you were disappointed by the news that Recovery of an MMO Junkie was directed by a Nazi.
Comic Girls (7/10)
A very cute story of four artists living together and sharing their passion for manga. This one grew on me a lot over its run, and while I had been pretty certain it would be a 6, a satisfying ending and unnecessarily pretty production elevated it, and I’m glad I wound up finishing it.
Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online (8/10)
This one has the distinction of being the first review I got hate mail for, because I said that Sigsawa was a far better writer than Kawahara and that the female characters in Alternative actually had agency, and boy are those things true. As it turns out, without Kirito-sama, Sword Art Online can actually be decent, or even great. A solid buildup, well-defined characters (that don’t want to bang the main character!) and a spectacular climax lead up to the best story in the franchise. Can’t wait for Alicization to bring SAO crashing back down to mediocrity-at-best.
Tada-kun Never Falls in Love (8/10)
The only HIDIVE show I finished this season! And the best of three romantic comedies we got this spring, because it gave us the progression and satisfaction that Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun wasn’t able to. While it hit a few stumbling blocks, Tada-kun was brought up at least two full points by its fantastic ending, and that was a great surprise since I was really skeptical going into the final few episodes, as they are a big shift in tone and setting from the rest of the show, but the story pulled it off brilliantly.
Hinamatsuri (8/10)
The funniest show of the season, hands-down, Hinamatsuri is the strange tale of a girl with psychic powers from another dimension coming to live with her new yakuza dad, and the hilarity that ensues. Hina herself is a great character, as her dimwittedness is the basis for a lot of the comedy in this show, but the real heart is Anzu, and the coming-of-age journey she takes over the course of the story. This series shows a great and uncommon sympathy to the downtrodden members of Japanese society, and ultimately is able to bring every character’s arc to a meaningful and satisfying conclusion...except for one. Shame about that final episode.
Food Wars: The Third Plate (9/10)
I’m surprised at the lack of heat I’ve gotten about my opinion on Food Wars, and maybe it’s because I’ve been too subtle about my feelings, so I’ll spell them out clearly now: Food Wars is better than My Hero Academia, and you should be watching it.
Lostorage Conflated WIXOSS (9/10)
Man, was this a satisfying turnaround from the disappointment that was incited. The decision to bring the original cast back for a Massive Multiplayer Team-Up was a great one, and meant that almost every character, but especially Midoriko, got the conclusion they really needed. I’m hoping that this is the end for this franchise, if only so it can go out on its highest note. Oh, also, the soundtrack is still awesome.
Best of the Season:...
...
...
MEGALOBOX (10/10)
This shouldn’t surprise anyone, because MEGALOBOX was perfect from beginning to end and anybody who watched it is well aware of that fact. The sleeper hit of the season was everything the first episode promised; a gritty, 90′s-flavored story of one man’s journey to prove himself the best, and damn the consequences. MEGALOBOX is so great that it’s difficult to pick out individual elements of its awesomeness, but special mention should go to the music, because it is amazing. The OST of this one should go down in history along with that of Bebop as the best that anime has to offer.

Most cars nowadays have some sort of keychain gadgets that locks and unlocks a car through central locking at a press of a button. Even motorcycles get their own gadgets with a whole range of digital speedometers to coolly look at how fast you are going, Bluetooth motorcycle helmet interphones to use your mobile phone whilst riding your motorbike or LED spotlights which help you see when riding around on the those long dark nights.

The gaming gadgets are some of the real must have gadgets for men and offer up some of the most geek gadgets you can possibly find. Garden Gadgets
Not all gadgets have to be some kind of electronic gadget for them to be entered into the category gadget. There quite a number of garden gadgets that you wouldn’t really think were gadgets such as a bird feeder or wheelbarrow, but these are very handy gadgets to own when out gardening. Of cause the garden has its fair share of great gadgets including lawnmowers for cutting the lawn, hedge trimmers to create stylish hedges to impress the neighbours, water sprinklers to keep the lawn and vegetable patch adequately watered or some kind of solar lighting that lights up the night sky when enjoying the garden at dusk. People can’t be without their mobile gadgets even when on vacation and so a portable battery pack for recharging power will come in handy. Even a whistle key finder can be useful especially when walking around in camping sites where the chance of losing your car or house keys are greatly increased.
Fishing Gadgets
Even the peaceful pass-time of fishing has its use of gadgets to help land those prized specimens of fish. Bite alarms have allowed anglers to fish with more than one rod and you can quite often see fisherman with two or three rods sitting on rod rests with bite alarms fitted. There are even fish finders to help anglers find the location of fish underwater, especially when they are boat fishing on the large lake somewhere. Fishing has all kinds of clever gadgets for helping to dislodge hooks from fish or actually help land those much bigger specimens and these fishing gadgets come in all sorts of wonderful shapes and sizes.
Flying gadgets
Now these are some of the latest technology gadgets and can be enjoyed by anyone, although men and boys tend to favour these gadgets the most. These really are cool gadgets to buy and can be some of the most expensive gadgets around. The futuristic gadgets include radio controlled helicopters, biplanes, blimps and more bizarrely flying saucers. These pieces of kits are amongst the most enjoyable and best gadgets for anyone to have in their gadget collection. Although learning to fly these sorts of gadgetry has a steep learning curve and only really suit the extreme hobbyist who has time to practice with these modern gadgets.
Gadgets for Her
The range of gadgets for her is considerably smaller than it is for men, but both girls and women enjoy using the same types of gadgets that men and boys do. Many gadgets for females centre on household gadgets such as the various kitchen gadgets that are available. I don’t want to pigeon hole woman as the stereotypical homemaker because a lot of new age men do house chores as well. But the majority of women still tend do the majority of the housework and so these types of kitchen gadget are mainly aimed at them. Many gadgets for girls are also being enjoyed by boys so a lot of these gadget categories do cross over.
Kitchen Gadgets
The devices you find around the average kitchen are some of the most unique gadgets invented, and are the most popular home gadgets that people add to the collection of kitchen technology. Doing household chores has become a whole lot easier thanks to many of the wonderful gadgets. Be it washing the dishes with a top of the range dishwasher, cleaning the wooden or marbled floor with a steam mop or even washing and drying clothes with a washing machine and dryer combo there really are some cool kitchen gadgets.
When preparing and cooking food there is a whole range of cooking gadgets to help with this time consuming task, such as food mixers to neatly chop food down to suitable size for cooking, steam cookers so meat and vegetables can be cooked slowly and gives them a more tasty and melt in the mouth texture. Bread toasters are a convenient way to make some toast for breakfast or a quick snack during the day and can even toast crumpets that are equally delicious.
Microwaves have made cooking food much quicker and convenient though the types of food cooked in microwaves tend not to be of a very healthy quality. An even more unhealthy option for a kitchen gadget would be a steam deep fat fryers that allows you to cook chips or chicken drumsticks and food of that type. A healthier option is to use a Smoothie maker to mix fresh fruit or vegetable drinks to give your body that much vitamin and mineral boost.
You really can find some unique kitchen gadgets in most standard kitchens and can even find the odd unusual kitchen gadget such as the electronic tin opener. The various coffee gadgets available can also help you make the perfect cup of coffee when needed. There are many must have kitchen gadgets and no modern kitchen can do without them. Imagine how hectic and inconvenient life would be if you didn’t have the time saving devices around the home, that leads to healthy work and life balance most people enjoy today.
Baby Gadgets
Although there isn’t a great deal of gadgets for babies there are still a few that mothers find useful when nurturing their new born. Baby monitors are the kind of gadgets that have become invaluable to mothers, with the ability to hear everything the baby is doing while being in another room of the house. Mobiles are a fun gadget that keeps a baby both calm and entertained for hours while they are lying in their cot.
Night lights are another gadget that are useful with babies especially when having to get up in the middle of the night to feed or change the baby. Baby car seats are another useful gadget to have thanks to them helping to keep the baby safe and secure in the car while travelling to the shop or the nursery. Even electronic learning games are some useful baby gadgets that help to educate your baby with entertaining sounds and things to touch and rattle with their hands.
Gadgets Galore
There really are tonnes and tonnes of gadgets available to buy in the marketplace and no matter what you are currently doing in your life, there will always be some kind of cool gadget to help make your task a simpler one. Whether it be bathroom gadgets, camera gadgets, fitness gadgets, music gadgets, office gadgets or even party gadgets you are going to find some kind of gadget tech that suits your needs.
One thing you can assure with any gadget is that once it is part of your life it will most certainly be the part of someone else’s life. Take for instance the phone gadgets that are now available and literally littering the planet. These mobile gadgets at the start of this century were simple monochrome phone and texting devices.
Now they are Smartphone’s that have the ability to not only make phone calls and text messages, but also have the ability to play games, take photos, store and play music, and connect to the internet through a 4G connection. Who in this modern world could now ever live without their mobile gadget? These gadgets hold everybody’s important social contacts, photos, music and personal details and the owner would certainly be lost without this technology.
Not all gadgets have to be completely functional in everyday life. In fact some gadgets can be used for special occasions such as the many Christmas gadgets or party gadgets enjoyed at various times of the year. Some gadgets can even be for decoration or to show a particular dedication to a personal such as Star Wars gadgets like the light sabre, which any avid Star Wars fan would love to own.
I for one really love getting my hands on the newest gadgets and just love to scour the internet to buy my gadgets online. I like reading about not only the latest technology gadgets but also news on future gadgets and relish seeing which upcoming gadgets I will be interested in purchasing.
Gadget Insurance
Now with this talk of owning all these amazing gadgets I have to write about the security of those aforementioned gadgets. All this gadget technology is quite an expensive part of consumer purchasing and having some kind of insurance on these gadgets can be very beneficial. Take for instance owning the iPhone and imagine if you lost or damaged this device, the cost of replacing this device would be expensive.
This is where gadget insurance can be helpful when wanting to insure an expensive mobile phone for accidental damage, losing the device somewhere, liquid damage when taking it outside and even in the event of theft. Lots of these Gadget insurance companies have appeared online and offer a wide range of cover for a modest monthly fee.

Role-Playing for One: Revisiting the Fighting Fantasy Gamebook Series
https://gamebooks.org was used as reference for this piece, with background from http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-08-16-you-are-the-hero-a-history-of-fighting-fantasy
I've always loved reading. When other kids were playing our school's custom made tennis ball tag game (largely an excuse to whip tennis balls at people), messing around in class or just generally engaging in grade-school mayhem, I always had a book handy.
I read in class when I was done my work (and sometimes when I wasn’t). I read on car trips. I read on the bus rides home, or while walking. I read when I had nothing else to do. I read at home instead of going outside, or even instead of video games; my usual escapist pastime of my formative years.
By the summer I turned eleven, I was reading literally anything I could get my hands on, from the Animorphs series, X-Files episode novelizations, ‘Young Adult’ novels about first aid, or even the Star Trek technical manual. I will even admit to having read crappy novelizations of Ninja Gaiden and Blaster Master at some point.
In my defense - it was a different time.
So, while kids my age were at summer camp, my idea of a day out was either going to my local bookstore or biking over to the library. I'd spend entire afternoons wandering the air-conditioned stacks, checking books out armfuls at a time, then spending stretches of days inside alternating between console RPGs and reading stacks of books by my bed.
It was around that time, on one of my trips that I first found a gamebook.
You probably know them as the Choose Your Own Adventure books. At very least, you’ve probably seen the covers. The concept behind the series is simple: books with non-linear page numbers dividing the narrative into decision points, ending in a number of ways based on your decisions throughout.
The series has always been the poster child for utterly ridiculous deaths - and some of them were downright gruesome for a series that was aimed at pre-teens. An illustrated scene featuring your character being strangled by a Yakuza assassin is just the tip of the iceberg. In fact, as a connoisseur of truly awful video game character deaths - a trait developed from a childhood playing adventure games, I can confirm that some of these are actually pretty gruesome.
I was content enough in my discovery, but little did I know that the well went deeper. I still hadn’t heard about Gamebook Adventures. While the Choose Your Own Adventure series got its start in the 70s, the concept of a gamebook that was also a role playing game didn’t materialize until the start of the Fighting Fantasy series of books, starting with 1982’s The Warlock of Firetop Mountain.
The book was penned jointly by Ian Livingstone and Steve Jackson both of Games Workshop founding fame (Not to be confused with the man behind Steve Jackson games - who confusingly started writing Fighting Fantasy books as well) as an attempt to describe the substance of tabletop role-playing to a wider audience. The end result was something else entirely; a self-contained RPG adventure with Choose Your Own Adventure trappings.
The concept proved decently popular, and Fighting Fantasy exploded to include almost seventy entries in 25 years, including Sorcery!; a story told across 4 separate books that allowed players to transfer their character between them.
But I wasn't aware of them until the 1990s, when I fished a copy of Appointment with FEAR from a shelf of dog-eared paperbacks at what was quite possibly the world’s most disorganized used bookstore. It’s easy to see why I bought it - It’s pretty hard to say no to a cover this cool.
When I got home, I remember just about flipping out when the book asked me to go get some dice and a pencil to fill out a character sheet. And even though my first run probably ended in failure - most of them do - I was hooked.
I was hooked because, for me, the Fighting Fantasy series was a relief. Beyond it being a cool concept, it allowed a scared, lonely, depressed kid lacking in friends and safe places to see what was so engaging about pencil and paper games. The books hint at what makes pencil-and-paper gaming what it is: skill checks, dice rolls, inventory, combat, and world building, since most of the books take place in the world of Titan - a stand-in for the world building of Dungeons & Dragons without needing the critical element - people. And I love them for it.
These days, a handful of the books have made their way to mobile devices, boasting quality of life improvements like and bookmarks, which saves me trying to read a paperback while trying to hold it like a bowling ball - fingers trying to save various decision points to go back to when you failed.
And fail you would; Fighting Fantasy books are the worst of D&D dungeon design that we love to hate so much - or maybe just hate, depending on your taste. Dead end skill checks that force a restart of the entire book, insufferable mazes that required reams of graph paper to map properly, entire branches of the book that served as red herrings, and even unwinnable states, triggered by forgetting to pick up a key items early in the story. Some of the books boast an instant-death kill-count well in the 30s, not counting combat deaths. I’m working through House of Hell right now, and haven’t gotten more than a few encounters in before dying to some seemingly harmless choice.
While some of the earlier entries show their age, there’s still a lot of worth here - with some caveats. There is a lot of nostalgia at play here. If you’re not the sort of person that likes to make their own maps in video games, or write down notes, this might not be the right fit for you. Many of the Fighting Fantasy apps, published by Tin Man Games on iOS and Android, have a mode where you can “Play like an old-school cheater!”, allowing you to bypass skill checks or item checks that normally lock you out of choices otherwise.
While I certainly don’t think they’re perfect, I do still think they’re worth a look, especially at their price point on mobile - less than $3 on the Canadian Apple or Google Play stores. I don’t guarantee you’ll find them great, but hopefully you can find something of value looking back over what I have no trouble calling a criminally underrated series.

May - Up Down Up Down
Trying to keep this one short. I feel like things are going as well as I could expect with a couple of kids. I’m making progress on my next mobile game, I still like it, and I logged a decent amount of hours work this month on a fairly regular basis. Good stuff.
I don’t have anything specific to moan about. Except that it’s June already and this stuff takes ages now. I finally started sending out testflight builds to the guys after a significant gap, but at the start of the year I was aiming for 3-4 mobile games this year and I’m going to have to step up the pace in the second half of the year to have any hope of hitting that.
As a work/life balance thing, I’ve been trying to make sure I take a day or two off for every 4-5 days “work”. It’s good, except that often a couple of days off ends up feeling like 3-4, and for the sake of my home life I have to log a day as a work day even if I just sit at my desk and cry all day. But still. I feel like this has been important, I’m managing to keep on top of things a little better, I’m mostly focusing on spending time with the kids, but getting some chores sorted on the off days is helping me keep the work days free of interruptions a little better. I feel really pathetic talking about all this, I mean, if I had a job I’d be out of the house 5 days in a row whatever happened, and I’d have to work, and the kids would be fine. But somehow it never feels that simple working from home... and motivation and positive energy for my solo isolated efforts are still something I have to work on constantly. But, I’m probably happier than I’ve been in a while with how things are going on a purely production and endeavor level.
My gaming year continues to suck. I still play FE Heroes more than anything else because I can do it when I’m half asleep and only have one hand free and can’t move it too much. I just started playing Shadows of Valentia and I’m loving having an actual game, but still the accessibility of having Heroes on my phone seems to keep it in rotation. As with every new game, I wish SoV was a Switch game. I tried out ARMS on one of the test weekends, decided it probably wasn’t for me, but it did seem fun. Also managed to find a window for some PSVR gaming. It’s pretty safe to say that if I had a big chunk of gaming time it’d all be with that these days. Dirt Rally is epic, and I’d love to play the whole of Statik, it’s super fun. Any leftovers would go to the Switch though, obviously.
Oh, and I went to the Vision Summit back at the start of the month, it was good times again. It’s true that I only go to most of these things because they’re in LA, but each time I’ve been to that hollywood hotel venue it’s worked out great for the small event. VR and LA seem to be going well together, so hopefully they have more events here and I get to go to one someday with an actual VR project underway.
Hoping to just keep on going with this game in June, I expect that if this month goes as well as April & May did, that I’ll be about done with it, but don’t hold your breath for that. Looking forward to E3 too, always fun to get out of the house, hopefully catch up with a friend or two, and this year I’m excited to try some new Switch games.
