What if someone who knows how to use vocal synths like. Made a vocaloid version of Hamilton. Assign each member of the cast a character that sings for them. It'd probably be a community project if it happened, because that's a big undertaking, but it would also be more fun as a community thing. I don't really know how to use these programs, (I have tried to make Teto say things, and technically I have succeeded in making her say things) BUT I can brainstorm casting ideas with my limited knowledge of fanon Vocaloid personalities!

As indicated by the picture above Hatsune Miku would probably take the role of Hamilton. Her being the most popular Vocaloid makes her a prime candidate for title character. Also I just like the image above with Miku's silhouette on the star with her name.

Idk who Burr would be. Flower maybe? Off the top of my head. Is there someone who it would make sense to oppose Miku in the way that Burr does? An anti-miku? Neru? Nah, I've got better plans for Neru...

You can't spell Laurens without L en. You can spell Philip without it, but that doesn't matter, he's going to be playing that role anyway. It just feels kinda natural for me, as he's pretty young and boyish, which fits Philip, and I feel it fits Laurens too. There's no Len's-relationship-to-Miku-mirrors-Laurens-relationship-to-Hamilton to this or anything, I'm pretty sure that's the case for most of these.

Lafayette is Teto this is a fact. They're both so silly and they like baguettes they're the baguette bois I need this so bad someone give me a Teto cover of guns and ships and I will love you please I feel this in my soul.

Also, I like the idea of Teto in the second act wearing a flashy red coat and debating with Miku in the cabinet. She's perfect for this role.

Mulligan/Madison? Uh. Idk. Again. Flower? Again? Maybe Fukase? I will probably form a stronger opinion on this/borrow someone else's opinion later.

I'd say MEIKO has good strong eldest sister energy fit for Angelica. Also they're both red.

For Eliza, my first instinct is to say Luka, although there's also a voice in my head saying Gumi, and there's also probably someone outside of my head who has another idea that might be better. ?

Rin has big "and Peggy" vibes.

For Washington I want to say KAITO or Guackpo, like, a tall, imposing man. KAITO would be perfect if it weren't for the fact that in most fan works I've seen, KAITO's pretty goofy, and Washington really isn't. I think that that's probably just bias though, he's not always like that. He could make a great Washington. Idk much about Guackpo but it could probably fit. He's a samurai. I don't know if that has anything to do with anything, but maybe it could.

Philip Schuyler as Neru. I initially thought of this as a joke, as Schuyler doesn't speak a word himself, and Neru has no official voicebank (I personally headcanon her as mute), but Neru as his second act counterpart, James Reynolds, could be really interesting? Neru hates Miku so much that she decides to extort her for money and ruin her career? It feels very in character for Neru to do some of this stuff in a way, it just feels right I guess.

So that's. Most of the main characters. Or all of them. Unless I'm forgetting someone. I have no ideas for side characters other than the Neru ideas. I feel like the utau default voice whose name I don't know off the top of my head should be in there somewhere. Maybe. Maybe the one with the big blue thing on her head. The young one. In positive dance time. Idk there's lots of Vocaloids and lots of characters (but there's more Vocaloids) and I need to end this post now goodbye.

Carmen ad deum // Helium Vola -> this genre is like. bardcore but in the other direction, and is actually good. all their songs are based in actual medieval texts and sheet music/period-accurate musical stylings, but reimagined as techno music

Vocalo-Colosseum // SymaG -> technically a cover of a rin and gumi song but i would be a hack fraud without any vocaloid on his list. the song in general just fucks in general but the album art for this song on spotify really enhances the vibe

Tengu Village // Maclaine Diemer -> similarly i would be a hack if i didn't put any ost on here, and GW2 ost in particular. this is one of my favorite new areas in the game, it's such a nice place to idle (or as new as eod is as the second newest xpac i guess)

The Pines // 070 Shake -> my sister introduced me to this one by going "you'd like this band. they have something in common with you." and after a lot of my guesses she was like "they're gay" thanks girlie. anyway this one is another one of those great autotune songs with a fucking EXCELLENT breakdown in the last chunk

It’s a shame that Gackts name is so attached to the Gakupo vb because I wouldn’t rly be that upset about a voice actor being changed, I wasn’t super into Gackt back then but everyone basically knew who he was (not sure the amount of overlap of fans who also liked gakupo or sought out their covers), I’ve seen from a couple fan blogs that his voice has changed over the years even before his sickness/surgeries

Like maybe they can use older recordings bc there was that hide/other visual kei band member they made a vocaloid of and he’s dead so yeah I wouldn’t think the real Gackt would need to show up at the studio to provide newer recordings

Kimutaku would be good, he’s known for being ina boy band tho not as active as a musician anymore, tho pricing aside I think we’re past the generation of like a vocal synth with a famous name attached, bc I don’t know if it rly helped in sales like pikos fame didn’t stop his vb from being discontinued

Gumi makes an easy comparison... From what I can find they didn't rerecord for her v6 (feel free to debunk me on this!), so couldn't they do the same for gakupo, from a technical standpoint? Or was it possible for gumi since she has a v4 and en bank and therefore more recordings for v6 to work off of, that gakupo doesn't have?

From a popularity standpoint it's also interesting how despite coming from two well-known singers, gakupo got more tied down/linked with his va as opposed to gumi. Neither of them are like fukase or sachiko or hide who are meant to sound as close as possible to their VAs, so I can't say I really mind gakupo (or gumi for that matter!) swapping VAs as long as they sound roughly the same & fulfill similar voice ranges.

There is technically three versions of Romeo and Cinderella not just two.

The first one is the original song that came out in 2009.

Then there is the Mirishira version that is about Juliet’s side of the story. This version I’m pretty sure is technically “fanmade” but basically is accepted as canon by everyone.

As for the obscure KomaEiki song, it is called Kiiro no Manjushage ~ Another Story. Supposedly according to the comments on one of the uploads of the song, it is about Eiki and Komachi being in High School up until the point Eiki has to leave. It is kinda implied that Eiki either “dies” or she goes off to become the Yamaxanadu of Gensokyo and Komachi ends up accidentally dying in a car crash when trying to find Eiki. In the end they both find each other. There used to be an English translation up on YouTube which the last time I saw it up was in 2018-2020 but it was taken down sadly.

The other two Vocaloid songs I mentioned in the last ask just remind me of the ship. Love Trial just seems very KomaEiki “inspired” and Ah It’s a Wonderful Cats Life just has a “similar” dynamic to KomaEiki in a way aside from the fact that both Gumi and Eiki have green hair. Fun fact actually, people have mistaken Eiki for Gumi before too, doesn’t help with the fact there are a million Gumi songs that are about the colors black and white.

 📼 - i dont listen to v1 banks as often as v2 or any there after, and i dont really dislike or overtly like any of them, but by law i have to say meiko because god will strike me dead if i dont. and i know you didnt ask and this isnt part of the question but i want to use this opportunity to say i like kagamine act 1 vbs the best despite all the flaws, just the tone alone i adore

✏ -im going to answer this from the standpoint of a consumer not a creator of vocaloid content. after the mess that was v5, i think they should wait a long while before releasing vocaloid 6, it just didnt feel like it had a strong start marketing wise. i miss v3 days lol. it doesnt really expand on much in terms of accessibility (basing this on the many accounts of people saying v5 is harder to use than v4, i still use v4.) most of the audience for vocaloid are people who are drawn in by the characters and have little to no experience making music, so i think they should try to focus on making v6 accessible and easy to learn (because vocaloid will always be difficult to master.) since again i dont use it often enough to be qualified to demand anything i think the “default” voicebanks should not be so fucking ugly, also im not talking about the price cause if you bought vocaloid 5…. L

❌ - i already talked about kamui kitano, so id like to talk about anri rune. i liked kikuos demo for that voicebank and its sad it never got realized, even though it did sound sort of generic female v3 vocal voice lol. again, i mostly just like her design as it stands out from more generic vocaloids like the orange one. mirai komachi i just googled that

💬 - spanish! when it comes to more languages i usually go to like the utau community just because they already have such a huge diversity in language. i remember also being very excited about french (alys) before they changed from vocaloid to cevio due to technical complications or whatever i dont recall. i still think a russian vb would be dope i want a vocaloid to be able to pull off a tatu song

🎵 - i said seeU eng before, miku got her chinese vb and the other cryptonloids are sure soon to follow, they all have eng vbs too, luo got a japanese vb. id like to see the vsingers languages expanded upon. i want to use yan he english. also miku really needs a spanish vb cause the spanish speaking producers make better songs than the english speaking producers

Jamie Paige - Anew, Again

One day, on soundcloud, the internet streaming site, I come across a peculiar tag for music "Soundclown"...now, this was in 2012/13, and now it's 2016 the topic has been covered by sites/blogs, essentially, it's the audio equivalent of YouTube poop, and standing in one corner of this extreme sub-genre, was an artists called "Piss Spears" (bear with me)and, upon investigation of their account, I found a huge web of accounts, producing different music, but all created by this central person, these accounts were:  hrmnzr adrimnzer Olive Reece mel irl stab something (technically a collaborative effort) Paige Stanley blue limits piss spears cats girl And the music styles would vary wildly, from soundclowning as mel irl (with one particularly notable acoustic cover of Childish Gambino's "bonfire") to vaporwave with "blue limits". Now I'm sure in that list I've probably missed one or two but to put it simply, this artist was frequent and prolific. Now, one of the alter ego's not listed is, you guessed it, "Jamie Paige", the persons whose new album "Anew, Again" I shall be reviewing. So, without further ado, here is the review of an indie artist with 4 years’ worth of hard production, mixing, and editing.

01 - Decree Starting with a very harrowing guitar piece, and whiny vocals, Jamie sends an initially harsh message "someday everything we know will be gone" however, as they go one through this sad, somber intro, the message is turned on it's head.And just then the drums kick in, the synths pick up and everything becomes so much more cheery. Jamie's voice becomes less strained and erratic as their message becomes far more positive and motivational with lyrics like "our power is more than our sun" and "we will be alright today" which, on its face sends a message of positivity but how the artist emphasizes the use of "today" implies that there may not be a happy tomorrow, and alludes to visions of a dark nature with lyrics like "the reality facing me shows, and I cannot believe what I see"

02 - Space Center Starting off with a more chipper chord set, this time with the keyboard as the instrument of choice, they are looking back on a cold day with someone of significance outside a space center. They talk of how they hope that this person is doing better, potentially implying that this person wasn't in the best shape when they saw them for the last time. Jamie paints a rather remorseful picture, or at least regretful about this moment and how it played with notable lyrics like "I never thought for a second you'd be gone, and I'd never get to make amends with you". This song carries a surprisingly emotional punch for anyone who has ever cared for someone, only to have things move apart, either by unfortunate circumstance of negative force. 03 - Skygirl* Not bothering with much of a build, in stark contrast to the past two tracks, Skygirl starts off chipper and quickly I truly love the synths on this track, it's impossible to not want to move as it hits the breaks. And the chipper backing is met by nothing but lyrics so sugary and fluffy they'd give you diabetes if they could, and it's actually impressive. I can't work out the significance of the aforementioned 'sky girl' but regardless of the confusing chorus, lyrics like "what we need is less of tidal waves [potential jab at JayZ?] more of peace, and love, and better ways" making me just fizz up inside and go "daww"

04 - Imaginary, Effervescent Another emotionally down opener, talking of starring down on a cliff, but just like the first track, they see a vision of a figure in the distance, and as she slowly turns to face Jamie, she wakes up. The rest of the song is of Jamie reminiscing (though this time in a seemingly more positive light than on 'space centre') of time spent with this imaginary figure from their dream. With a catchy hook and a nice break before everything kicks into over-drive and things become a little cacophonic, with the vocals still just as fine and in-tact as they were previously, I feel that this song will hit or miss with most.

05 - Adelaide Delays (feat. Natbird & Marcy Nabors) The first song with a feature on the album, and, despite a few harrowing lyrics about being trapped in an abusive relationship (although these could also be a metaphor for Jamie's relationship with music in general), is an instrumental track and honestly, it's nothing special, probably the weakest part of the album for me. Not sure what role this double feature of "Natbird" and "Marcy Nabors" played but I'm gonna go ahead and assume it wasn't lyrics writing and was more likely on the production side.

06 - Song for Jijo* Another cheery song with a flow that brings to mind imagery of "The Gorillaz" or more specifically imagery of "noodle" jumping up and down in the music video to "Dare", which is odd really, because the lyrics certainly don't reflect anything Albarn would put out under that particular effort. The pacing of this song is absolutely outstanding, I can truly see this having radio-play potential on a more dance orientated station. The general tone of the song is of Jamie speaking to another significant other (though the specifics of their relationship is never even remotely touched, and it's better that way) who is clearly not doing well, despite stating they are.

07 - Grand Restore (feat. Marcy Nabors & GUMI English)* Whoa, a Vocaloid? Seriously? Well that's certainly a way to harken back to the days of your early soundcloud efforts I suppose, but it's not something that could be taken very seriously by the majority I fear. Which is a shame really, because I actually really like it, the addition of her own vocals throughout the chorus is a nice touch, but most importantly, the song is just so damn catchy, like really catchy, the intro breaks in with this almost retro synth section and Gumi's high pitch voice break in with the drums and other components of the beat. I can't give many lyrical themes here because deciphering Gumi's "Engrish" is rather...taxing, however, she speaks on following her dreams and carrying on through adversity with lyrics such as "I won't hesitate to make my dreams come true". The beat is, again, outstanding and makes me picture dancing "Noodle" again, but I don't know if this would work in a dance/club setting, just on the vocals alone.

08 - Space Center -pt. 2 This song polarises me rather heavily, on the one hand the beat is mediocre to slightly good, and the intro lyrics are talking of saying goodbye to the body and other nonsensical observations, but then the beat breaks up and Jamie says the lyrics that have been stuck in my head since I first heard the album "ALL THIS TIME" and my opinion on this track is flipped on its head and suddenly it's all I wanna listen to, but getting to the good part requires me to go through this rather synthetic feeling, "AMV" worthy intro. I can't think of a setting, whether it be a long drive, or at home drunk at 3am, in which this song works all the way through. There is a very nice drum loop for the outro that I really do enjoy.

09 - Good Time, Lead Line* Here, we see Jamie battle the voices of doubt in her head, by putting on her brave face, and simply proving them wrong, proving through doing. I'm not sure what the "lead-line" is supposed to imply here, maybe the cord connecting microphone to recorder? Regardless of that, this song incorporates everything good I've thought about Jamie's production and lyrical style, and puts it on one track, the up-beat attitude to dealing with things, it's cutesy, sure, but it comes across sincere enough that it doesn't matter. It's...also got one of the hardest outro's of any song I know, it just ends, no up-note, no down-note, it just cut's off. Which is jarring, and symbolic of how all good things must come to an end. Whether that message is intentional, it's all I got out of it. And I'm not too salty about it, honestly, because all I have to do is hit play, and suddenly I'm right back there.

OVERALL IMPRESSION - 4/10 The production here is outstanding, on most of the tracks there will be something you either like or are okay with (or in some cases, really, really, really, like) there seems to be no dislikeable production or "beats" on here. The vocals use a lot of electronic pitch shifting and alteration, which whilst it gives a smooth sound, may not be for everyone. The tone of the album is really strong and whilst I was initially critical of the first lyrics of album being so dark, honestly I applaud it for such things now. I may not have this on constant repeat but I can certainly enjoy it when I listen through it. It is a landmark of the work produced by this artist, and I mean under any of their many, many aliases. I love the combination of genres and styles, from bedroom-production low-fi on the first track to the unbelievably sugary later tracks. I must say however, is an unbalanced album, with the latter half being the strongest. My main gripe I suppose could be summed up by how poorly the first song sets up the album. It really doesn't give a good example as to what kind of ride I was in for and even in hindsight it still doesn't. To put it bluntly, it's not the greatest thing, but it's enough to make me realize I actually enjoy dance music, and more importantly, want to hear more from the artist as they grow.
