hello, i love your blog and whump in general and i would like to try and get involved in the community.

thing is, i feel really weird/embarrassed for liking whump (even before i knew the term). like ashamed i guess? (im not sure how to put it into words exactly). so i dont want to tell any of my irl freinds that im into it/put it on my main since some of my irl freinds follow my main.

and i do draw and i used to write but i dont really know how to draw/write whump yk? (though i have written whumpy things before, when i was like 10, they were really shit though by virtue of me being a 10 year old) and i feel too shy to put any of my work out into the internet for all to see, espcially my writing because i havent actually written prose fiction in. years. i have played dnd (and my campaigns do tend to get pretty whumpy) but i dont think the experiance of roleplaying it really translates well to the internet?

so i was wondering if you have any tips for 1 getting involved in the whump community and 2 managing feeling embarrased about liking whump

Here's an equally rambly answer! First off, welcome to the community! You're definitely not alone in liking it or in feeling embarrassed about liking it. A lot of us, myself included, have our moments where we feel weird for our interest.

I can't tell you how to get over that because I still feel embarrassed sometimes but pinpointing your reasons for liking it can make it easier to explain if someone inquires. Is it the aesthetic? The drama, the adrenaline? The character development? Is it a coping mechanism? A kink? We've got community members whose reasoning is all across the spectrum. Understanding your reason can be reassuring and help it make sense.

As for the shyness, a lot of us make side blogs for whump content, so it can be a little more isolated/private if we feel awkward about IRL/main blog followers seeing. If your art style is easily recognizable as yours, that might not be the best solution but also remember you don't have to post what you draw (or write.) You can create whump content just for you (and if you decide you do eventually want to post some, that will have served as good practice.)

There are whump prompt lists coming out all the time that can be used for art or writing if you don't know what you want to make. You should look up the whump wheel, it's a fun one!

Re: getting more involved in the community: believe it or not, there are whump roleplayers floating around in the tags pretty often! They'd probably enjoy another roleplay partner on the scene! Beyond that, liking people's posts, reblogging them to that side blog if you decide to make it, coming into their inboxes to say you enjoy their content, sending in prompts if whump fic writers are asking for some, posting prompts of your own if there's a type of whump content you notice lacking and want to inspire someone to explore...There are monthly whump events happening all the time too if you want to participate or just reblog to help promote them. You could also ask if another whump artist wants to do an art trade with you. Those are some of the best ways to dive in!

No, but to be serious. This is, a pretty complicated question. Or maybe it's complicated because I'm about to give a very long answer.

First off, how I do it: Most of my posts (mainly my creative ones) I put a lot of time and effort into. I think that directly clashes—and often wins against— the embarrassment for me because I like sharing the stuff I make! This blog is like, one of the only ways I feel truly free and comfortable to express myself.

I like to think of this blog as my own personal stage. I put my craft and “perform” on it, and while the doors are open for people to watch, I imagine I’m doing it to a void. Or maybe a personal journal would be more accurate. If nothing else, it gets ideas out of my head. (It's like. Scientifically proven that is good for you btw. I forgot where I saw it, but like. Having all these thoughts in your head makes you more miserable or smth. If nothing else, post your ramblings for your health).

I think it helps that the only posts I main tag are my promos. I don’t really interact with the larger community (which is something I recommend for any kind of community. The smaller the pool, the less of a chance for unsavory people, yk?).

Second— for being judged: if someone comes up to you/your blog complaining about your self-shipping for being cringe or something along those lines, they hate fun. People have been self-inserting themselves into stories for centuries (look up Dante's Inferno); they do it for fun, coping, or whatever else. If someone is making fun of you for it, they're probably not someone you want to interact with anyway. Luckily, Tumblr is the most self-ship-friendly social media platform around and I think that crowd's mostly died out.

Third— for toxic shippers: I’ve got three things.

The block button is your very best friend. Use it liberally. If it sucks, hit da bricks!!

Use the filtered tags for things you don't want to see (like proship or comship).

Vet people. Read through their DNI, BYF, and definitely their F/O list.

This is just me speaking about my experience though. Mine's pretty isolated, and I’m sure I got things wrong or that could’ve been worded better. If anyone wants to reblog this and add their own advice, I highly encourage you to do so!

NO BECAUSE KUNIGAMI VS ISAGI RIVALRY COULD’VE BEEN SO GOOD it would’ve built up the hype for kuni sm more and him feel much more relevant imo!! honestly along with wanting to know what wc is all about i’ve always wanted to know noel noa’s reaction to it…like his biggest rival from the past has destroyed this child’s body and life and future in order to make a copy of him THAT’S LEGIT INSANE??? kaneshiro could’ve given us such a scrumptious kuni and noa dynamic and then he just didn’t 😭

honestly i think one of the main problems w bllk is that kaneshiro is spreading the cast too thin and making people care about too many characters but it’s impossible to effectively manage such a huge cast given the premise of the story and still have emotional impact when stuff happens to them and that also means that characters aside from the protagonist aren’t given a ton of fleshing out (this is relatively common in shounen sadly…jjk had a similar issue but almost to the next level) where by focusing on lesser characters and just giving them insane depth the story would’ve felt much stronger ☝🏻 like realistically there’s 0 reason for kurona to exist in nel when reo (as per our earlier convos) or yukimiya could’ve easily taken that role and had their characters developed much more!! kiyora could also have been replaced with yukimiya (as much as i love him) and tbh?? get sendou out of ubers and focus more on aryu (how’d he go from number 2 in scoring goals to a defensive player?? flesh him out more instead of sendou literally nobody cares abt him…hot take but only memorable u20 players were aiku sae and shidou the rest did not need to be there), get rid of tokimitsu entirely (show how his nervous personality doesn’t jive with egoism) and give zantetsu + karasu more opportunities to shine in pxg (honestly if they wanted to keep the cutthroat feel of second selection then get rid of nanase too and show how kindness doesn’t cut it in bllk where you need to be insane; that way the cast is still large but these characters aren’t fighting for a main spot they’re more naruhaya-esque) 😰 and another hot take but they should’ve saved all of the other ng11s besides sae until the world cup arc (so no kaiser and lorenzo in nel) to really build the hype and stakes of the wc because rn it’s like…ok the bllkers have already managed to beat lorenzo and the whole kaisagi rivalry is going on so the ng11s don’t feel as threatening?? whereas they could’ve been a really cool obstacle in the wc and would’ve provided a baddie of the week feel and higher stakes without it being boring or random since they’ve been so foreshadowed already with sae

i agree i rlly like the terminally ill aspect it also explains why his pokémon are willing to go along with his possessed body (they’re not able to accept that he’s gone) as well as why isagi knows so much without him being a villain…it’s also just sad to think about like he didn’t want his family to worry about him but he wanted to accomplish his goals so he just pushed forward until he literally couldn’t anymore 😭 also now i’m realizing lowkey kunigami would fit better in barou’s role (given the whole canonical wildcard thing being similar to the possession) however idc because i like barou more

yeahhh unfortunately fandom people can be a little weird to say the least and especially now that i have a decent amt of followers i know there are going to be interesting individuals in my comments so it’s not even worth it to not tag…okay but hear me out i wasn’t even thinking about this when i assigned teams (nagi got his team based on cuddly fluffy vibes and barou got his team as all dark types because of his “villain king” thing and reader was forced to have one of the same pokémon as him for the sibling theme…of barou’s team i liked houndoom the most so that’s what reader got) BUT the parallels between nagi’s starter being arcanine and reader’s being houndoom kinda go crazy?? like they both have huge fiery dogs but as per the pokédex arcanine symbolizes loyalty justice protection etc and houndoom is like death hell horror and whatnot 😭 however as we know nagi’s aura is death and reader’s character’s main theme is love (for barou, for her pokémon, etc) so narratively nagi x reader would be so good…especially if they’re each other’s “rivals” but they’re not really rivals and half of the time are helping each other out…there’s a vision here and it’s cooking imo 🤩 ALSO i’m thinking…hear me out…karasu reminds reader of barou so he becomes like her surrogate older brother while they’re searching for barou and reader is the annoying little sibling karasu never had which makes him respect yayoi more and teaches him responsibility and maturity which in turn makes yayoi finally respect him too 🤔

honestly galvantula is such a random pokémon but realistically in terms of type matchups it’s absolutely CARRYING reader against barou’s team considering dark is weak to bug 😭 honestly it’s such a cool little pokémon i think it’s so fun for her to have it on her team!! and the gyarados plot line is going to be so entertaining (basically she gets scammed into trading a freshly caught pokémon for a magikarp and shenanigans ensue) that i think the basicness is excusable

otoya constantly getting girls via his fairy type pokémon vs reader and tullia being like “ladies STAY AWAY” who wins 😭⁉️ and agreed breloom + yuki goes so hard…tbh i rlly like steelix and yuki too it works surprisingly well

no literally justice for nagi 😭 the way the government did NOT gaf abt him is crazy like they could’ve at least given him a water type (although tbf he’s meant to show how the pokémon training system takes advantage of people so it makes sense) honestly though i love his character in this au he goes through sm development and his slowburn w the reader will be legendary fr

YOU KNOWWWW chigiri’s rapidash is SPARKLING he def takes such meticulous care of all of his pokémon (same w reo) whereas nagi’s just like eh as long as they’re healthy 😄 KFNJSSB so like manshine trio will be chilling and in their downtime reo will be brushing his cinccino and chigiri will be polishing his rapidash’s hooves meanwhile nagi’s arcanine is rolling in a pile of mud somewhere having the time of its life

hiori and ice types just go so well together (even though he only has one on his team I think 😭) and agreed i can see him retiring from battling after his arc w reader and co and following his actual passion of helping endangered pokémon instead of listening to his parents (maybe karasu inspires him because he also stood up to his family [yayoi] and that gives hiori the courage to do the same)

gen six is where i left off!! i played gen seven (namely moon and a bit of ultra moon) but i didn’t like them that much so as far as i and this au are concerned the pokémon verse ended with xy/oras 🤩 omg wait aryu as a pokémon groomer slays…maybe he’s the one yuki takes his pokémon to before contests?? and perhaps the itoshi bros are mentioned in passing as gym leaders in another region…kaiser as noel noa’s apprentice who’s going to be a new e4 member like isagi (but a bitchier one who never knew barou and never directly interacts with reader) and same with bachira + kunigami (kaiser to replace noel noa, bachira to replace lavinho, kunigami to replace chris prince, and isagi to replace snuffy) there’s just so many different roles that characters can play!! the world building would be so fun

NO BECAUSE LISTEN THE TIK TOK AUDIOS ARE BURSTING WITH POTENTIAL FOR THE POKÉMON AU i’m getting soooo many ideas for the story now!! like the entire gyarados arc, the aegislash arc (this one goes crazy because it’s basically “reader and nagi somehow end up in a period drama for an entire arc” yet it makes perfect sense given the pokémon verse and the backstory), EVERYTHING with barou especially the final fight between the cousins (i’ve decided they’ll be cousins but as close as siblings!! so y/n’s mother is barou’s father’s sister and her houndoom is barou’s houndoom’s sister so it’s like three generations of brother/sister-esque bonds making up the story), the random evil team encounters…i’m sure you saw but i put requests on hold for a few reasons: so i can finish the ones i have, work on the oaeu, AND also start this story hopefully!! also i want to deny people from requesting for a bit so the hype is built for my 1k event whenever we reach that milestone FJDJSJSJ

Hello! long ass rambling incoming, but bear w/ me I just need to let this out. To start, I was a big fan in early 2015 up until mid-2017 then I stopped (sorry tay, I'm not your strongest soldier 🥲). It wasn't until she starts doing promo again that I saw her in my timeline, and I thought oh wow, this is going to blow at any moment (2015-6 made us swiffers built different ik💀). But anyway, she returned with folklore evermore and subsequently reach a new level of success. For real, it's just so amazing to witness this arc. Seeing how ambitious she is--like you could make a tv series based on after Red losing that grammy to Folklore winning aoty, and you'll see the rollercoaster that is the 7 years of Taylor Swift life, it's just so crazy.

There's so many things I want to touch on, but mainly 1989 era. In the light of what we know she went through, I felt sick to my stomach. I struggle w/ ED too and we pretty much had the worst years of our lives together lmaoo. So, I feel her. I mean idk about her, but I always go out of my way to avoid looking at pics of myself from that period. I had mini ptsd flashback every time I was reminded of memories from my worst time. Let alone her having to sing songs she wrote and perform during that time for re-records 😰 it's really sad when you think about how she was the one that orchestrated the whole thing. I mean let's not kid ourselves--candids for like two years straight with your bffs + power couple publicity + striving for #1s and Grammies + her biggest tour yet + not eating + every single industry bitch tryna take you down? boy, I would have a mental breakdown every night.

Looking back, I almost felt complicit. I'm not gon lie, she did sold me first with her PR than she did with her music, so at least the overexposure worked. So, seeing that it took her a literal world-changing event to make folklore; in that she needs to make one pop album longer w/ Lover to arrive in Folklore—I was going through your tag; you said she was on a 'crisis' during Lover. Care to shed a light on what happened in season 7? I saw that one toe-curling tumblr post where she passive-aggressively drops a "💗" to that cupcake post about ME! being a disney song... it was bad that for ha? 💀

Okay so the masters situation was much more than just a business deal and having to rerecord. The issue wasn't Scott selling her masters, it was that he sold them to Scooter who managed Kanye in 2016 and helped orchestrate everything that happened, and that was the catalyst to a lot of dark stuff that she's alluded to in music + interviews. Like Scott was there from the very beginning and that would've been beyond painful, and the situation took her back to 2016 because of Scooter's involvement, and on top of that, there was also the Karlie betrayal.

Based on some of the decisions she made that era, I think she was also stressing about turning 30 and how her career would be affected. And if you read her interviews from back then, you can tell she was pretty anxious about doing press too.

Plus, we know her mom's cancer relapsed around that time (and I don't feel comfortable talking about it but her 2020 Variety interview mentioned specifics that were quickly taken out). Those are the main things I can think of, but she said in Nov 2019 that she had a difficult year and not all those things were made public, so there might be more.

i ADORE may so much !! in all versions of canon, she is such a supportive mother figure who has no obligation to become the sole parent to peter—she isn’t related to him, they were only considered family because of ben, but she stepped up as she not only adapted to having a child but became one of the best representations of a proper supportive caring concerned mother in popular media (imo)

PEPPER! ben, obviously!! i usually prefer may and tony as platonic/familial but i have read a couple fics where that pairing was very fun to have as an addition to the story, honestly i’ve seen tags of may and rhodey and i havent read fics for it but i also am not against that, but i think my favorite (despite it not being popular At All) is peppermay. strong CEO becomes useless lesbian at sight of Glorious Italian Bi? absolutely. yes please. gimme gimme gimme

may and rhodey!! while i said above i’m not against the idea of them somehow becoming romantically involved but i also just love when fics make them the power duo friends that are like “tony is too busy in Dad Panic Mode that we have to fix the problem get out of the way”

my unpopular opinion about this character

she is not overprotective!! fics that are jokingly like “ah man may’s gonna kill me lol” or whatever are fun and funny yes and obviously in fanfiction you can change things and explore different ideas for characters and i’m not dissing that in the slightest, but people who constantly create content of may being a hardass and refusing to let peter be spider-man or anything like that ??? nah man she gets worried and sometimes that worry can occasionally show itself in slight overprotectiveness but outside of that she is supportive and understanding and would put in the effort to compromise and find middle grounds and help where she can. “your scary aunt” does not fit may parker. she can be fierce and passionate and powerful and intimidating when the occasion strikes and especially when protecting peter and their loved ones but she is not scary. being scary and being powerful when protective are different things.

i feel like i’m rambling too much with this but basically may being protective is beautiful but her being overprotective feels very ooc for me

also i personally cannot see may ever disliking or hating tony. being angry at first when she finds out that tony kept spider-man a secret from her, yeah, but genuinely not liking or hating him?? nah they be powerful co-parents

and don’t get me wrong, im not just disliking this scp because it’s gross — my favorite scp is 2852/cousin johnny so obviously i get the appeal of gross scps! but the way this is written is so gratuitous and nasty that, when combined with how unnecessarily long and un-clinical the article is, just gets to be... too over the top

and it’s not even gross in a horror/gore way, which is the route i imagine most gross scps take, it just feels like a complete fetish thing that the author was like “wait shit this has to be horrific, lemme throw in some death and pain and stuff”. and fetish is a heavy accusation but listen— LISTEN— IT’S A 19 FOOT TALL MOUNT OF TITS THAT COMPELS PEOPLE TO BREASTFEED UNTIL THEY DIE THAT ALSO GIVES PEOPLE SEXUAL COMPULSIONS TOWARDS IT and i am CONVINCED the author had some kind of fetish and so did half the people that upvoted it because it’s just... badly written
