Honestly I see Jimmy's refusal to put Curly out of his misery less about his weird feelings of envy or his delusions but the fact Curly is all but stated to be a shield to Jimmy from his actions and people seeing the worst in him.

The only characters that Jimmy really interacts with one on one before the crash are Curly and Anya, two individuals he has wildly different relationships with. It's likely that Curly really did most of the talking between them as the pilots and the rest of the crew as staff. They didn't know of Jimmy's more reprehensible behaviors cause they never really had the chance to and Jimmy is subconsciously aware. If they had disliked him more than Anya would have told Swansea earlier or even Daisuke when things got really bad.

It's why he takes the immediate opportunity to blame Curly; He's the shield. He's saved Jimmy's ass more times than he can count and more times than Jimmy would ever admit. Even when he can't really do it anymore, he mentally shields himself from his own faults by putting Curly between them. Letting Curly die puts too much on him because he doesn't know how to function without a safety net.

In the end Curly only lives because Jimmy needs the idea that Curly will inevitably make things better to stay alive, meaning Curly has to live, no matter how much it pains him to do so.

#in short Jimmy doesnt only care about Curly #he only cares about the securtiy that Curly provides him #and i headcanon that the reason he tried to kill everyone is because he knew it was only a matter of time befor Curly realized this wasnt #somethgin benign Jimmy did that he could smooth over but somethign that Curly would repremand and condem him for and take his security away #like yes Curly did not react fast enough or strongly enough to what Anya told him but you could see him showing more concern over it as I d #understand the psychology behind people and more specifically men like Curly as he is hearing something horrible his friend did to someone #he cares about but has less of a bond with. he feels the need to protect his crew as people first and sadly Jimmy is still the person he wa #closest too yet I still think everything happened too fast for Curly to process as would you not grapple with the fact your closest friend #is a monster you must personally deal with? or that he did something so vile to someone else you have become protective over? Would you not #think of the relative power that friend holds and how if you approuch this wrong it could end badly for everyone? He had all these thoughts #but not enough time to think about them. Also how Jimmy was one of the main people in his personal life he felt a need to protect seeing as #he got him this job. I am always thinking TimJay thoughts related to the fact that they have matching scars from getting their throats slit, and not only that, but Jason slit Tim's throat first in an attempt to threaten Bruce, where Tim was nothing more than a pawn for Jason to use to emotionally manipulate Bruce.

It makes me so Unwell. They have literal matching scars. When do you think Jason realizes it? When do you think, while running his fingers over the scar he has to always remind himself that Bruce was willing to jeopardize Jason's own life just to save the Joker, Jason realized it was the same scar *he* gave Tim? And does it click for him too, that he and Tim are a lot alike? Being used as pawns in Bruce's game? And for the first time he maybe understands Tim Drake, just another kid trying to get Bruce's attention and approval? And Jason did to Tim exactly what Bruce did to Jason? And that's part of what spurns on Jason's obsession with Tim, trying to "save" Tim from Bruce's ideology?

When they finally get together does it make Jason even more possessive? He put that mark on Tim and now he has his own to match. It's the closest to being understood and loved he's ever felt when Tim runs his fingers over Jason's scar at the same time Jason touches Tim's. Mirrors of each other, in a fun, fucked up little way.

People who really like shuake also seem to write themselves into a corner wrt Akechi and his relationship to Akiras team. Contrary to popular belief, the team, including Haru, does not hate Akechi. At worst, they tolerate him and deal with his attitude. Hes a good teammate and respectable fighter and the team recognizes that at the end of the day, he was a teenager who was manipulated and abused by a man who saw him as disposable. Just about every thief understands this intimately. They have the same mindset wrt adults who take advantage of the people beneath them. Under different circumstances they wouldve been friends. And if u approach it from that angle, it becomes less about Akechi being the sole person who ‘gets’ Akira, and more about the thieves being the only people in the world who ‘get’ Akechi.

When you expand your thoughts to include the thieves as members of his Team and not roadblocks that get in the way of your ideal shipping dynamic, you allow urself to give Akechi and Akira more depth and nuance to their own relationship.

Akira and Akechi are wildcards; both of them struggle with the face they choose to display to the world. Its the first time Akira interacts with someone who is, at a literal, technical level, his ‘equal’. But Akechi is one of many firsts for Akira yeah? Every thief has their bond with Akira thats completely unique and personal. Akechi will never be the person who witnesses Akiras Awakening, hes never the person who watches Akira have his restless nights alone in the attic, and hes never the person who realizes in real time that the teenager hes housing is just Some Kid, not the delinquent hes been warned about. Hes not Ann or Yusuke, or any of the thieves; he doesnt have the time or experience that they have with Akira, and I think its interesting to explore that part of their relationship, shippy or not.

Akechi is someone who is incredibly lonely and self depreciating despite his cockiness and attitude. He has no positive bonds to speak of save for his connection with Sae. To have him see a team that works together and cares for each other, how do you think he would feel? Out of place? Inferior in some way? Angry about how hes been alone for so long in this single minded quest for revenge? Wouldnt that be a point of struggle between the two of them? I think what makes shuake good for me is knowing that Akechi needs alot of time to heal, and the thieves would want to help with that process. They do it bc they care, bc Akira cares, and bc they trust Akiras opinion (and he trusts theirs in return); if Akira feels like Akechi is someone who can be trusted Now after everything thats happened, then the thieves would do their best to help. And how would Akechi feel about that? Angry about the show of pity? That even now, he has no real say in what happens to him? Or begrudgingly grateful that they are cordial with him? Because they do care, he KNOWS they care, they care TOO MUCH actually; but the one thing he values over brawn and wits is honesty- fighting for what you believe in without having to use soft words to justify it.

They make me sooooo very sick in the brain ever since the early days they met, they already lowkey had me hooked under a spell. I remember how early on Etoiles asked Bad where he was often so that he could follow him around. Etoiles admitted to how he considered Bad as one of his good friends when Bad teased Etoiles about being a try hard and Dapper said that Etoiles’ words were one of the nicer things that people have said about Bad. Etoiles saying “Life is good when you’re in it” (paraphrase) to Bad when Bad was trying to help him get up once because Etoiles was attacked by a mob without having any armor on. The way he acted towards Bad was so, sooo cute!! I also remember how Bad really wanted to take a rare dark metal dungeon to himself but instead he gave it to Etoiles and Etoiles was SO happy about it and sent hearts towards Bad in chat…happy dog wagging its tail vibes!! Regulus and Sirius make up and start being more present in eachother’s lives(yay!)

Because of that, each of their group of friends start interacting more

One day, Sirius sees Regulus and Remus talking excitedly with eachother about a book they both like and BAM

He’s hit with one of the best ideas he ever had

What if… he set them up?

On his mind he thinks it’s perfect. Remus and Regulus have lots of things in common, Sirius loves them both, they would be very happy together and… they could go in double dates (you can decide with who he’s with, but I like to imagine it’s Gideon Prewett)

So Sirius recruits James and Peter to the operation “Romulus”

(“Wait” Peter says “Shouldn’t it be ‘Remulus’ then? Where did that ‘o’ came from?

“No, it’s ‘Romulus’. You know, because of ‘Remus and Romulus’”

“Are you sure of it, mate? That doesn’t make a lot of sense” James questions.

“Yeah” Peter agrees “Wouldn’t ‘Moonsekeer’ make more sense?”

“Ohh, that’s a very pretty name, Wormy”

Anyway, the plan to get Remus and Regulus together starts and it’s very much on the style of those old movies of kids trying to set their parents up

(Tell me that Lindsay Lohan in The Parent Trap doesn’t remind you of Sirius. I dare you)

Anyway, the plan is in motion, but what they don’t know it’s that Remus and Regulus already like eachother, but are afraid that if they act upon this feelings they are going to ruin the growing friendship they have with eachother and their relationship with Sirius

Shenanigans happen, going from the basic ‘lock them up together in a room’ to ‘accidentally destroying a horcrux’ and yet, nothing of them getting together (well, a kiss happened, but they don’t know that happened, so the ‘Romulus’ group don’t think any progress was made)

It all cames to a lovely conclusion with baby Harry(yeah, they took THAT long to get together, but to be honest, they had to stop Voldy, so it kinda took some time of the planning) being the responsible for them to finally admit their feelings and start dating

(Harry was well rewarded with position of ring bearer in the wedding, along with baby Luna being the flower girl and his godfather eternal gratitude)

been looking in tags for a few days now to see if anyone else found the whole high cloud quintet and related story to be a bit.....poorly written, nonsensical, contradictory, full of plot holes and loose ends, etc. apparently i'm not the only one. (and i'm not even talking about shipping stuff, because any time I saw someone mad about bad writing, someone always replies to be homophobic and laugh about failed ships. weirdos.) it could have been so good but was thrown into the garbage for the most part (IF you noticed all the plot holes and contradiction. if not, then it's a fine enough story tbh. I expect most people to see it on surface level and not read all the little hidden lore bits and try to piece it together like my autistic brain did. which is ok! enjoy it if you liked it and ignore me 😆)
