Reading Swedish medieval history at university is making me appreciate my 9 year old brain for remembering any of the kings at all cause this is all very confusing to my 22 year old brain as well
#like the names is what gets me#like okay birger had three sons which were erik. valdemar and magnus birgersson#valdemar was king but then magnus became king and i only remember magnus because he has the funny nickname ladulås#then magnus birgersson had a son who was named birger magnusson wo became king but he also had two brothers.. erik and valdemar....#king birger was fighting with his brothers and was captured by erik but then he was released a couple of years later#then birger captured both erik and valdemar and they both died from hunger (or poisoned pea soup which is a story that is a lot funnier)#but then birger was forces into exile and eriks son magnus eriksson became king of sweden and also norway cause his grandpa was king there#birger and his son magnus was still a threat to king magnus but magnus was executed. the not king magnus that is. and birger died too#it continues like this for one more generation until some more names are added and cause other countires and stuff but like...#like.... theres a problem here... and that is that literally only four names are used for like over ten people#and while its funny its also highly confusing and i have an exam in a week#nit that i think the kings are actually too important in this exam but still#also dont quote me on this history cause i cery well might have fucked up
