I'm a strong believer in Soap & Ghost not wanting kids and not really caring to "start a family," but I do love the idea of them taking in the older neighborhood kids.

They don't foster or adopt, too lazy to jump through all the legal hoops and unending paperwork, but they'll have the troubled children on the block come in for dinner almost every night. Kids whose parents couldn't give a damn about them, already gave up on them, or are too tired to actually parent.

They let them help with house work and pay them so they know what it's like to earn instead of steal, they'll invite them to parties to know what it's like to have community, and they'll show up to their games or plays to let them know someone will always be proud.

Teens are always in and out of their houses, knowing it's always a soft place to land, knowing Soap and Ghost don't already see them as lost causes. Knowing if they have a bad trip or get badly hurt that they won't get in trouble or screamed at, they'll get help.

It helps that they both understand the kids, lost and alone in a world that doesn't give a damn. Sometimes they have heart-to-hearts, let the kids cry until they can't anymore. Other times they teach them how to properly swing at a punching bag to healthily release their anger. Occasionally they'll actually fight the kids just to show them they aren't as tough as they think before teaching them better ways to settle conflict.

Most importantly, they show the kids that no matter how fucked up your life is, how hard things get, or how much it feels like it's all ending, it'll always end up okay. They'll grow up, make a life for themselves, find people who care about them, and can help make the world a better place so the next generations of kids will feel a little less like they did.

They'll never have kids of their own, but they sure as hell look out for the kids in their lives.

for the record your mom's first cousin isn't your aunt, she's your first cousin once removed. her kids are your second cousins.

your aunts are your parents' sisters, or the wives of your parents' siblings.

english doesn't make much distinction between the paternal and maternal relations and is weirdly inconsistent about how relations-by-marriage work, but it's got a nice precise numerical coordinate system for the consanguinity of cousins. it's all based on nearest shared ancestor; very scientific; you can tell genealogists got involved.

unfortunately as a result hardly anybody understands how to apply it.

on the topic of arranged marriages in the post-canon, my dumbest and most inescapable headcanon is that falin and kabru get lavander married

partially out of my love of lavander marriages and the historical tradition of queer men arranging marriages between their lovers and their sisters

and partially because every time i see a labru baby fanart i think "the rumor mill believes that falin and kabru had an affair and the king legitimized his sister's bastard as his heir" and the comedy of errors that would result from trying to cover up kabru's pregnancy/fake falin's is hilarious to me

There was a soft plop as Gia chucked something on the counter. ‘Merry Unbirthday,’ they said.

Maia examined the object. It looked like one of the jester-like hand puppets that had been for sale in Fleur City for the Festival. She shot Gia a quizzical smile. ‘Thanks?’ she said. Gia may have been stoic and unreadable to almost everyone, but those who knew them knew they did have a whimsical streak, so Maia figured they thought the puppet would be a fun souvenir.

But when she picked it up, she realised there was something inside it. She turned it upside down to have a look, only to see the last thing she was ever expecting to find there. After about thirty seconds she looked back up at Gia, whose expression was as neutral as ever.

‘How did you...’ Maia started, but trailed off at the look Gia was giving her. The change in their expression was negligible, yet somehow still conveyed that the answer was the most obvious thing in the world.

‘You wanted one,’ they said plainly. ‘But I knew that when you made the choice to go back, you were giving up your shot at a living one, so...’ They gestured at the hand puppet.

‘...So then how did you get your hands on it?’ Maia asked.

‘Swiped it just before we got out of the city,’ Gia said. 

Maia looked back down at the flower sitting in the hand puppet, its violent, glowing orange petals unmistakable. Gia had essentially handed Maia a loaded gun. If anyone knew about this, the two of them—and Grim—would be thrown on their arses outside Night Raven’s gates faster than they could blink.

‘Why?’ Maia asked. Gia had done plenty for her already in the months they’d known each other, but this was on a whole new level. Why would they take this kind of risk?

‘Honestly?’ Gia said. The corner of their mouth quirked up into the barest hint of a smile. ‘I just wanna see what you’ll do with it.’

Maia returned their smile, carefully pulling the firelotus out of the hand puppet and examining it.

‘Get that thing potted ASAP,’ Gia said. ‘I risked my neck to get it for you, least you can do is try to keep it alive.’

Maia snorted and turned away, heading towards her lab. They were right, of course.

Sort of like a very big road trip.” (Frisk, Chara, and Flowey go on a road trip across the country, and Frisk is determined to ensure Chara enjoys the trip, no matter how distant their brainfriend might be.)

tomorrow is my nephews first ever bday. i got the invitation in the morning. his cute little face was photoshopped on an astronaut cartoon. i saw it and then i couldnt stop crying.

the infants in gaza who couldnt make it to a year. the little children who saw their siblings bodies destroyed beyond recognition. hind and her family trapped in a car. the mothers, fathers, grandparents. one more year under the occupation.

i wonder what their invitations wouldve looked like.

You can't do that with AI!

In my dreams, I imagine near perfect pictures and sounds that can never and will never be matched unless you were somehow just rich and powerful enough to order them be made into existence. It's for that reason that I fully understand the tinker-tinks behind AI technology fiddling with vocals to make something new, as we all do with video and audio mixing, but a) that doesn't make it ethical, and b) it still doesn't compare to perfect visions and whispers of ideas that exist only in our head if you're given a prompt---

for example, in my dream I was watching Katy Towell's The Little Girl who was Forgotten by Absolutely Everyone short

but instead of Tim Jones narrating it was being voice acted by Mathew Rhys, the voice of Emperor Belos from The Owl House.

No offense to Tim, he's still great, but holy moly Emperor Belos narrating Children r Skary was a matchmade in spooky heaven and one of the few good things I've ever dreamed about.

OF COURSE, only in MY DREAMS was one of the better things I've dreamed about also about horror but you can't do that now can you AI now can you??

My nephew turned 18 today. I’m so excited to watch as his future unfolds. Though I do miss the little 4 year old who called me on the phone so often that I had to ask his dad to limit it to every other day instead of every single day. But I’m so happy for all the things his future holds. And I will love him every single day, in every single one of those futures, no matter which one this multiverse plays out as.

My DC muse has returned with a burning vengeance after four years being almost completely dead in the water, so here's two attempts at our friend @thedragonchilde's baby boy Schuyler Dunne, AKA Cold Case, because we've missed him for all of that time.

On the left is a cold attempt on our phone and stylus using Samsung's art app PENUP, from memory and having never done so before. As you may be able to tell, I Was Struggling, and honestly I'm just glad that it doesn't look worse.

On the right is a pencil sketch, with references this time. An Attempt Was Made at blush and glass tinting. Gods, we haven't done traditional in forever, but he was a worthy subject to christen the sketchbook we got for Christmas. However we do not have a functional scanner right now so forgive the questionable camera shot.

We realised partways through the second one that while we technically have drawn Sky before, this is the first time we've done so in our own art style, as the previous drawings were just silly chibis.
