Christmas Time pt. 5
8 marvelous days are left till Christmas! May all of those be prosperous to you in every good way possible! Today I'll be discussing Christmas food choices of our Hazbin friends.
I'm going to write about what holiday meals, desserts or drinks characters would enjoy and serve during Christmas holiday season. Come along to this glorious feast!
Vaggie
Since she is Salvadorian, Vaggie would make something tasty from her homelife time. She would love to share cooking moments with Charlie and tell her not only about how to make these but happy stories from her childhood. Of course, trying them out together is a must and Vaggie only lets others try because of Charlie. Those delicious desserts would include:
Tres Leches (Milk Cake)
Semita de piña (Jam-Filled Pastry)
Leche Poleada (Salvadoran Vanilla Custard)
Horchata de Morro (Drink made from plant milk)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Niffty
With the implication that she originates from Japan, I chose some traditional desserts for our sweet girl. No, no KFC. She would be so happy preparing those for everyone! Since she loves Alastor the most, she would make him some of these not too sweet, so that he could enjoy them more.
Wagashi (Traditional Japanese confections that are often served with green tea, especially the types made of mochi, anko (azuki bean paste), and fruit)
Black Sesame Cookies
Japanese Strawberry Shortcake
Chanmery ( non-alcoholic alternative to wine or champagne)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Husk
Since Husk used to travel a lot during his lifetime, he picked up some favourites here and there. Fact that he prefers food with at least a bit of alcohol. Husk definitely surprised everyone with his cooking skills and felt flattered by compliments.
Fruitcake (Spiced up with alcohol)
Olivier Salad
Beef wellington with red wine gravy
Hot Buttered Rum
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Charlie
She would love Christmas time so much! Ugly sweaters, family and friends and loads of good food. She would be that person who loves Christmas bit too much. But who can blame her? Just take a look at her favourite desserts to make! Charlie would make everyone try these out and even sweet despiser Alastor can't say no.
Gingerbread Cookies
Christmas Crumble
Bûche de Noël (Yule Log Cake)
Classic Snowball (Advocaat liqueur and lemonade)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Angel
Who would have thought that this guy can cook? Nobody, honestly. Well, to be fair, Angel needs a lot of help in the kitchen while making those. He kind off remembers recipes but improvises along the way, making questionable yet tasty decisions. Fun times thought!
Struffoli (Honey Balls)
Panettone (Italian type of sweet bread)
Pandoro (Fluffy cake with a topping of powdered sugar)
Vin brulé (Italian-Style Mulled Wine)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alastor
Though Alastor isn't a huge Christmas celebration fan these days, he was having way more fun when he was a child. Though he would never admit it, he has a soft spot for it because of his mother. She was the one to bring that holiday cheer every year. As well as secrets to wonderful dishes. Even though Alastor does not particularly like sweets, he would always try ones made by his mom. Now he continues this tradition with Hazbin staff who all agree that Alastor is a great cook.
New Orleans-Style Beignets
Jambalaya (Savory dish, consisting of meat, seafood or both and cooked with vegetables, stock, rice, and various seasonings)
Praline (A confection from ground nuts)
Chicory Coffee

Where In The World Is Phryne Fisher ?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Where is Phryne this week?
Why, she's in Mobile, Alabama, y'all!
During her stay in Mobile, AL, Phryne started off the day with some New Orleans-style beignets. Then she went on to the University of South Alabama, and Langan Park. The park is home to a train which was built in 1926.
Mardi Gras originated in Mobile in 1703, well before New Orleans was founded in 1718. Downtown Mobile is home to the Mardi Museum, and Wintzell Oyster House - one of the famous restaurants in the city.
On her way to Orange Beach to see the lighthouse, she stopped by to see the USS Alabama Battleship and one of the many marinas. After a stop at the beach in Gulf Shores, Phryne treated herself to a snowball.

Emotion-wise, generally: She’s very in tune with her emotions, but she also got a fierce temper from her husband. She can get moody and snappy if someone keeps messing with her. If she doesn’t have coffee? PFFT! Even Rafe knows not to get on her bad side.

Likes/Dislikes
Likes:
Animals
Loves all animals, but is really fascinated with marine animals
Swimming
Learned from Sam, and she is one of the best swimmers and was once on a professional swim team in college
Rain
Especially the scent after it rains
Autumn
Loves the leaves falling and the hoodie weather... and of course, HALLOWEEN 🎃
Snow/Winter
Especially loves throwing snowballs at Rafe and her brothers; she would be the one to start a snowball fight
“Hey Rafe!”
“Huh?” BAM!
The snowball whacked Rafe in the jaw, and the man looked over at his wife with the most surprised expression. The man slowly bent down and rolled a snowball up before holding it.
“You’re so on.”
After the fight, they go inside and cuddle together while watching movies.
Loves ice skating
She actually picked up skiing, and she and Rafe tend to go skiing up North during the winter
Being Outdoors
Even besides treasure hunting, she just genuinely enjoys being outside, and she and Rafe often take long walks
They always go to the beach, the woods, anywhere to take a walk
Playing Hockey
Grew up roughhousing with her brothers, so she figured why not join hockey
Boy was she good at it.
Was not afraid to fight the other team if they illegally checked her
Reading
History buff, just like her brothers
Loves reading. Will spend hours doing so
Rafe even added a “secret library” into their house which is full of so many books that Camila will probably never be finish all of them
Reads everything--from sci-fi to autobiographies to poetry
Rafe calls her his little bookworm
Horror Movies
Honestly, she got this from Sam
I have a headcanon that Sam and Camila would always scare the living daylights out of Nate when they were kids
So this transformed into a love for horror movies
She loves horror movies; Rafe is less enthusiastic
Camila also loves true crime podcasts and TV shows
Rafe’s Clothes
It’s no secret that Camila steals Rafe’s clothing
He’ll come home from the office and BAM! a hoodie is gone
“Babe? Where’s my green Adidas hoodie?”
“Ummmm I don't knooooow!”
He sees her in the bedroom wearing it, and he can’t help but smile
Nate used to make fun of her about it until he and Elena got married. Then he understood Rafe’s struggle.
Dislikes:
Excessively Loud Noises
She’s used guns, rocket launchers, bombs, so she's used to loud noises, but she tends to be really jumpy when a loud noises just booms out of nowhere
Fourth of July is terrible for her
She needs to wear earplugs during the bulk of the holiday, and she and Rafe tend to just have a small Fourth of July party in their house with their family
New Year’s is okay for her. She doesn’t like the poppers, but she’ll suppress her fight-or-flight instincts whenever they go off.
Doesn’t like things being slammed in the house. It reminds her of gunshots.
Thunder is also another one.
Rude People/Creeps
She’s been through a fair share of rude people and creeps, but that doesn’t mean she likes them.
I mean, who does? But anyway-
When she goes to bring Rafe lunch at the office, she often gets whistled at by the old white men thinking they have a chance
When Camila told Rafe, he opted to meet her on the first floor
He sees her and plants a kiss on her lips, which shuts up the catcallers and creeps
She also had to deal with rude people brushing past her and pushing her out of the way.
Little did they know her husband’s status in the company
Anyone who even breathes on her has a chance to get chastised or even get fired by Rafe.
Let’s just say no one messes with Camila at the office anymore
Blades
She’ll use her survival knife, but blades and knives bring up bad memories for her.
As a suicide survivor, knives give her flashbacks of when she tried to take her own life when she was 16.
She doesn’t like them, but she’ll use them if she needs to for stealth.
Football
Doesn’t understand the point of it
Isn’t it just glorified catch?
Honestly, she only watches it for Tom Brady
Nate, Rafe, Sully, and Sam get really into football and even did Fantasy Football at one point in time.
Elena and Camila just talk to each other while the men do their thing.
Being Alone
There’s hardly instances where she is alone
But when she is, her anxiety is through the roof
Growing up on the streets after running away from the orphanage made her really vigilant and cautious, especially when she was by herself
When her son was born, this fear grew even more
She had seen some pretty evil people during her expeditions, and she was afraid that those people would find her
They were dead, of course, but her anxiety made her think that
Rafe was home for the majority of the time, but when he went to work, he would call her every hour to check in on her
Hospitals/Doctors
Hates them.
Last time she saw a doctor, she was going to a mental institution
Rafe has to coax her to go to the doctor
“Baby, it’s for your health.”
“No Rafe.”
“I’ll be there the whole time. Nothing is going to happen to you. We’ll get ice cream afterwards.”
“Fine...”
“Knew that would convince you.”
Has to go with Rafe or one of her brothers so she’s calm
Caves
She’s claustrophobic.
She had a full blown panic attack on an expedition once, and Nate spent two hours trying to calm her down
Eventually, he settled with heaving his panicked sister onto his back and climbing out with her
She was fine once she saw the sunlight
Homophobic People
She’s Bi.
Is she fully out of the closet? No.
Only Rafe, Nate, and Elena know
Honestly, Nate only found out when he caught Cam kissing one of her friends
Elena found out when the two of them were just talking, and Cam slipped up and came out.
Rafe... well, he kinda just knew. She would always talk about how hot celebrities were and how she’d let a strong female character in a TV show or movie throw her through a wall
So yeah... it wasn't hard for him to figure out
She burns with rage whenever someone bashes the LGBTQ+ community
Hobbies
Fencing or sword fighting with her husband
He taught her how to spar, and she got super good at it
Rock Climbing
I mean, when you have to climb cliffs to get to places, she just ended up falling in love with the view
Swimming
Was on the swim team during college
One of the best swimmers out of everyone she knows
Photography
Her favorite gift was a DSLR camera Rafe had gotten her
Hockey
Used to be on a hockey team
Reading
One of her biggest pastimes
Treasure Hunting
She always says if it weren't for treasure hunting, she wouldn't have found her purpose
Pranking Her Brothers
She’s a huge prankster, especially to Sam and Nate.
Habits
Tends to play with her hair when she’s nervous
This is a calming thing for her, and when Rafe found this out, he would play with her hair
Girl literally melted
She was doing homework, and she was stressing
Rafe came up behind her and started playing with her hair
“You should take a break, babe.”
“But homework, Rafe.”
“Just take a 30 minute break.”
Eats really quickly
She and her siblings grew up food insecure after the orphanage so this was something she had to grow out of, but she struggles with it.
Cracks her bones consistently
The first time she cracked her neck fully, Rafe thought Camila had just broken her neck.
Biting her fingernails
Another anxiety thing she does
During winter, she wears gloves to try and stop biting her nails as much
Eye twitching when she’s angry
She’s normally really calm, but you can tell when she’s starting to get angry, her eye begins to twitch.
*eye twitch*
“Cam?”
“I’m fine.”
“Your eye’s doing the-”
“Nathan, I'm fine.”
Always drinks coffee
Literally needs it or else she gets withdrawals
Withdrawals are terrible for her
Bites/Pulls her bottom lip
Nervous tic
Squinting to see when she can clearly read
She acts like she’s blind, so she squints to read things
Strengths/Weaknesses
Strengths:
Brave
She will not hesitate to run headfirst into a gunfight.
Will look danger in the face
Loyal
She’s super ride or die, especially for her family and friends. If Nate, Sam, or Rafe tells her something is wrong, she
Patient
She’s really patient, and she tries to keep peace between everybody.
Determined
When she puts her mind to something, she will get it done. No matter the cost or what it takes.
Charismatic
Nathan Drake is her twin. Of course, she’s charismatic. She can schmooze her way out of (almost) any situation. She can socialize at any social gathering, and she can easily hold/start a conversation.
Weakness:
Reckless
She’s always running headfirst into things.
Stubborn
She’s really stubborn, in general. She will dig her heels in the sand and refuse to move.
Easily Distracted
This is mostly in part due to her ADHD, but she gets easily distracted.
“Look at how pretty this flower is!”
“The sunrise!”
“A cloud!”
Short-Tempered
She honestly got it from her husband. She has a short-temper, especially when she’s having a caffeine withdrawal.
Skills/Abilities
Climbing
Swimming
Photography
Running
Getting Shot At
Teamwork
Problem Solving
People Skills
High Pain Tolerance
Knife Throwing
Sharpshooting
Sleight of Hand
Education/Intelligence
Education: Has an associates, but she’s going back to college to get her doctorate to be a veterinarian
IQ: 115
Secrets
During the events of Uncharted 4, she hid the fact from Nate that her and Rafe busted her eldest brother out of prison.
She was on suicide watch for a few weeks after a big argument when the Drake siblings were kids, and she stormed off; Sam had found her on the verge of death, and she was checked into a hospital where she stayed for a few weeks.
She used to SH when she was in her teenage years; has been clean since she was 18.
Camila has had her fair share of grippy sock vacations.
She and Rafe had had a miscarriage, and it scared Camila into not wanting another child; Rafe, of course, respected her wishes and did his best to comfort her.
Fears
Small, confined spaces (claustrophobia)
Flying/Airplanes (aerophobia)
Dreams/Goals
Views/Opinions on...
Government: Doesn’t really sway one way or the other; she just wants someone to run the country well
Religion: Don’t force your beliefs onto others, but also be open to different points of view.
Economy: She’s upper class (only because of Rafe), so it doesn’t really bother her, but she is involved in the Stock Market so she keeps tabs on the economy.
Technology: Honestly, technology helps her on expeditions, and she was able to easily adapt to the rapidly growing technology

History
Camila Drake was born (as Camila Morgan) in 1975, the third child (and only daughter) of American archaeologist Cassandra Morgan and her husband, and the younger sister of Samuel Morgan, who was older than her by five years; she is the younger twin sister of Nathan Morgan.
In 1980, when Camila was five, her mother Cassandra had been suffering from an unknown terminal illness, which soon led to her suicide. Following the death of Cassandra, Camila’s father decided to give up his hold on them and surrender his children to the state. Not long afterward, they were sent to an orphanage.
The three spent the next few years in the orphanage, during which Camila and Nate took interest in books and were taught Latin by the orphanage's nuns, all while learning free-running and climbing from Sam. While growing up to dislike most of the orphanage staff such as Sister Catherine, they did become fond of Father Ryan Duffy, calling him "the only decent guy there". Eventually, Sam was kicked out of the orphanage due to criminal activity, before taking a job to support himself and his siblings.
By 1988, when Nathan and Camila were thirteen, Nate got in a fight one day with an older boy after the latter teased him by grabbing one of his books and insulting their parentage, leading to Nathan and Camila being suspended from a retreat with the rest of the orphanage. After receiving a harsh lecture from Sister Catherine, Nathan noticed light signs by Sam and went with his sister to meet with him.
Meeting up with Sam, Nate and Cam followed their brother out the orphanage's limits, before being presented with a motorcycle Sam bought them as a gift, which Nate realized was Sam's way to apologize; Sam then revealed his intentions to leave for at least a year due to his new job, in order to get money to eventually discharge Nate and Cam from the orphanage much to their shock and dismay as they were tired of their life in the orphanage. Trying to cheer his younger siblings up, Sam also revealed he tracked down their mother's possessions. The three then proceeded to plan on stealing them.
By the time he was fifteen, a young Nate and Cam wound up in Cartagena, Colombia in 1990. Sam was in prison somewhere leaving the twins alone to fend for himself.
Seeking to obtain the ring which once belonged to Francis Drake, Nate and Cam explored the Museo Marítimo and found it on display, before noticing a middle-aged man quietly copying the display case's key lock; before they could observe further, they were kicked out of the museum by one of the guards.
The twins decided to follow the man, stealthily tailing him up to a meet-up point with a blonde woman, before pick-pocketing his wallet. Much to Nate's and Cam’s surprise, the man noticed the theft and confronted the young Drake, forcing Nate to give him his wallet back but not before commenting on Nate's thieving skills. Unbeknownst to the older thief, Nate took the copied key before giving back the wallet.
By evening, Nate and Cam entered the closed museum but were soon confronted by both the man, Victor, and the blonde woman, Katherine Marlowe. Refusing to give Marlowe the ring, Nate and Cam escaped her clutches and were pursued by her men, with Victor aiding in their escape before saving them from an agent holding the children at gunpoint.
Later, at a bar, the man introduced himself as Victor Sullivan and treated Nate and Cam to a dinner. During their conversation, Nate introduced himself and his sister and explained their connection to Francis Drake and his ring, as well as possible secrets kept by Drake.
Within a year of meeting Sully, Nate and Cam ended up in prison at the age of fifteen, although Sully had them released shortly thereafter. Sully also came to know Sam, but unlike with Nate and Camila, the two didn't often see eye to eye.
When she was 16, she snuck out to go to a party in Colombia, and when Sam found out, he panicked and went searching for her. He found her participating in the party, and he dragged her away from the party. The two got into a major argument, and she stormed off. Sam didn’t follow after her, figuring she would be back that night.
🚨 (TRIGGER WARNING: SUICIDE ATTEMPT/SH) 🚨
When she didn't come home that night, Sam, Nate, and Sully went out searching for her. Sam found her in a back alley with her arms and shirt covered in blood. He picked her up and brought her to the nearest hospital, where she was checked in and put on suicide watch. Sam felt really guilty and barely slept. He didn’t want to leave her side, but he had to go back to his job.
Once she had woken up, she was transported to a mental hospital, where she recovered more for a few weeks. She got discharged, but she struggled with self harm for years after that.
Around the year 1998, Nate, Cam, and Sam got involved with Rafael Adler in their mutual search for the lost treasure of Captain Henry Avery, despite Nate's dislike and distrust of Rafe. The trio used Rafe's wealth to bribe their way into a Panamanian prison, buying the services of a warden named Vargas to aid them in their search.
Camila and Rafe became friends and started talking, and he had started to fall in love with her. After Sam supposedly died in the prison, Rafe and Camila began getting closer, and they eventually began dating in 2001. They had been dating for five years, and Rafe proposed to her after she came back from her expedition with Nate to El Dorado in 2007.
The wedding was postponed when Camila went on another expedition with her brother to find Shambala. They got married in 2008 after Camila came home and recovered.
In 2009, Camila accompanied her brother in their last (or so they thought) expedition, in search of Iram of the Pillars.
During all of this, Camila was helping Rafe search for Henry Avery’s treasure. When she came home from her final expedition, she said goodbye to her brother and went to join her husband in Scotland, where he had hired Shoreline to help him find clues. There, she sees her brothers again, but she has little time to reconnect with them. A gunfight breaks out, and Camila gets thrown over the side of a cliff, forcing her brothers to run after her, and the three of them go to Sully’s seaplane.
After the events of Uncharted 4, Rafe and Camila have given birth to their first child Damien, and they live in New Orleans next door to Nate and Elena.
Relationships
Family:
Siblings: Nathan Drake (twin brother) and Samuel Drake (oldest brother)
Other Family (not related by blood): Elena Drake (Formerly Fisher) and Victor Sullivan
Child: After the events of Uncharted 4, Camila and Rafe had a son named Damien
Love interest: Rafe Adler (husband)

Trivia
Even though Camila is the youngest Drake sibling, the boys listen to her 9 out of 10 times.
Camila pulls pranks on Nate all the time.
This causes the two to always play fight.
Nate threw her into the ocean one time.
She’s an exceptionally good piano player.
She’s ten minutes younger than Nate.
Camila is actually an amazing businesswoman, partially accredited to Rafe.
Even though she’s upper class, she never looks down on anyone.

some holidays may be location-specific, but seeing as we have a collection of people from all over the world, universe, and… alternate universes? we’ve decided to break down those barriers and bring these celebrations to you !!
we are excited to introduce to woodshore:
maslenitsa & mardi gras !!
while mardi gras is traditionally celebrated for just the one day, we’ll be extending the celebration to coincide with maslenitsa for the full enjoyment of everyone in the city !!
keep reading to find out more...
maslenitsa is a festival traditionally held in russia, and is a celebration of the end of winter and the coming of spring. the festivities vary greatly but are all about community and people coming together –– from the largest snowball fights you’ve ever seen to live music and dancing to trust falls off a high tree stump, it’s impossible to get bored.
the name ‘maslenitsa’ is often incorrectly translated to ‘pancake week’ due to the fact that pancakes are the number one treat during the week. pancakes are the food of choice due to their visual similarity to the sun –– this is a celebration of winter’s end, after all. vendors line the streets and make pancakes all throughout the week. russian pancakes, or blini, are thinner than what you might be familiar with, more similar to a french crepe –– but instead of being cooked with milk, they are cooked with sour cream. don’t let that deter you –– they’ll be the tastiest pancakes you’ve ever eaten. and don’t forget to try the tea brewed in a traditional samovar!
the end of maslenitsa is marked with the symbolic burning of a figure of lady maslenitsa, after which her ashes will be buried in the snow to fertilize the ground for crops. it’s a dramatic welcoming of summer and plenty.
you may wear whatever you’d like, but if you really want to get into the spirit, local shops in town will be carrying traditional russian-style clothing and headdresses.
watch this video to get an idea of the vibe of maslenitsa, or watch this video for more information about it !!
mardi gras is a festival famously celebrated in france, but is important globally. the name ‘mardi gras’ is french for ‘fat tuesday’, the name of which was given because this carnival was meant to be a final celebration of life and to eat and be merry before the start of lent. the celebration in the modern day is large and festive, marked with an abundance of color, music, drink, and food.
mardi gras will be celebrated in woodshore in the style of new orleans, where it is most popular due to its french history. on the streets you’ll find live music playing mostly jazz, street performers and magicians, vendors with games to win prizes, and street food that could rival even your favorite carnival or fair.
on the streets you’ll find people in masks and costumes in a carnival style –– many will be dressed as fairies, animals, or characters from mythology. if you don’t fancy a costume but want to participate, a simple accentuation with feathers, beads, and capes will more than fit the style. all such things will also be available in local shops.
watch this video to get an idea of the vibe of mardi gras, or watch this video for more information about it !!
ooc info!
–– this is an open event, which means your characters have complete free reign with what’s going on and what they’re doing during the event. –– out of character, this event will last from february 23rd through march 4th. in character, it will last february 24th through march 1st. –– during the event, you’re welcome to continue pre-event threads ––  you may want to prioritize event threads, so as to keep them moving during the event window. you’re welcome to turn old threads into event threads as well! –– check out this post in regards to a special addition to this event. –– tag all event starters with woodshore: event 06.

7 Unique Wedding Venues: Make Your Vows Quirky And Very Romantic!
The initial decision you shouldn't make inside your wedding plan should be to determine the date of your own wedding. This detail is the collection of socket wrenches because it will streamline the remainder preparation of the wedding. Once you have the exact date decided, you can determine accessibility of the venue you need to host your ceremony. You should also begin to plan the reception and dispatch invitations to friends and family.
This form of dress can be worn again and again, because the plan has a normal silhouette brings about it simply like apt for just about any cocktail party as it for your wedding day reception day.
Themed weddings are a single the reasons that will affect selection of the right whitefish montana wedding venues dress. Your wedding theme has something to do with the design and shade. Though pure white is mostly the color, wedding gowns can come now in numerous shades of white.
Albany Plantation, LA- To possess a true southern wedding with antebellum style you will want to make Albany Plantation the wedding destination. Situated just north of New Orleans and East of Baton Rouge, you will probably be in the heart of Cajun country with all the current flavors. Albany Plantation has beautiful architecture for years gone by with old oak trees that make a perfect New Orleans wedding venues ceremony space. Your wedding will have all the southern charm with plenty of wedding society.
Centre at Arbor Connection- This is a newly built site i wish are there because i was planning my wedding. Oh, well. Another great location much more easy to start. They can accommodate nearly 500 folks their meeting rooms. Will take a very a full service kitchen on world-wide-web. You can contact a meeting coordinator at 770-364-6204. They do not possess a website up yet recommended to their event store.
SECRET 2 - Knock Out the "Middle Man" Distributors and purchase Straight For this Source Conserve $1,000's By Avoiding the "Snowball Effect" of Wedding Mark-Ups.
So those two simple steps. 12 questions I believe you need ask in order to commission someone or a provider to film your big event. You don't have to be restricted to your list on top. If there's anything you would like explained or simplified, then ask and you will receive.

EVERYTHING FOR A WEEKEND IN NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA
NOLA (New Orleans Louisiana) is such a quirky, fun, beautiful place filled with friendly people and AHHHHmazing food. Walking around the French Quarter and popping in and out of places you will find tons of food and drinks and loads of fun! If you are in need of some local references for food, drinks, or entertainment, then you have come to the right place! Here is everything you need to know to visit NOLA and have the time of your life!
FOODS YOU SHOULD TOTALY TRY IN NOLA:
Boiled Crawfish - Technically, you can find crawfish year round. But, many local will tell you, only eat boiled crawfish during crawfish season! The rest of the year it is either frozen local crawfish or it is sourced from elsewhere.
Beignets - Cafe Du Monde - This is a must! They have been serving Beignets since the Civil War! The line is often long so if you need a back up spot, Cafe Beignet is a great option as well.
Pecan Pralines -  Try pralines or fudge at any of the little shops. Super sweet, but yummy. Loretta’s in the French Market is really good.
King Cake - If you find it, eat it! King Cake is seasonal and typically found during Mardi Gras and it is SO yummy! It is basically a mix between a donut and cake stuffed with cream. You will love it!
Hot Sauce - Spice is a HUGE thing in Louisiana! Every place in the Quarter has dozens of them to try. Some are so hot you have to sign a waiver eating!
Chicory - OK. This is not my thing, but it is very much a NOLA thing. Chicory in Coffee is huge. Personally it isn’t for me, but by all means try it.
Po-Boys - It is a sandwich stuffed with various meats usually fried shrimp or seafood. In the Quarter you can go to Cafe Masperos or Johnny’s Po-Boys or Erin Rose, but the best one in the city and where you will find me every day is Parkview Bakery! It is worth the uber ride, and it is such a great, local, backyard vibe.
Muffalettas - Central Grocery Co. is a super famous spot for this. I don’t eat meat so I have never had it, but everyone raves about it!
Oysters - Full disclosure, I have never eaten or even tried an oyster, but I have heard that Antoine’s Restaurant or Felix’s is the way to go for that.
Hurricane Alcoholic Drink - Pat Obrien’s is famous for this, but they have them everywhere.
Hand Grenades - These are a huge thing on Bourbon. Be warned, the sugar masks the liquor and you will be beyond drunk afterward.
Absinthe - Pirate’s Alley is the place for it. 55% alcohol makes it a doozy. Their version is the legal limit.
SnowBalls - I lived for these as a kid, and Hansens is the place in the city to get it.
World Famous Fried Chicken - Willie Maes has been on every food network show and is SUPER famous. It is supposed to be life changing chicken. Now they have created a bit of a chain, but make sure to visit the original location.
Gumbo, Jambalaya, and Étouffée - These will be served lots of places and worth trying. Best spots: Jambayala - Coop’s Place / Gumbo - Stanley's
BEST COFFEE AND BREAKFAST NEW ORLEANS:
My favorite breakfast spot in the whole city is in the Lower Garden District at Hivolt Coffee. It is the best coffee in the city including pour overs and the pastries and breakfast are all great!
If you are in the Warehouse District there is a Stumptown Coffee in the Ace Hotel which is a great option as well!
Brennans is super famous for breakfast. I have never been. But, worth pointing out. Make sure to get a reservation.
When in town, I usually eat at Sasuma Cafe. Cheap, simple, and healthy, something hard to find in Louisiana some times ;)
Another favorite of mine is Surrey’s. To be fair, I have never tried anything other than their pancakes, but I don’t need to! Their pancakes are the best!
Elizabeth’s in Bywater is a super traditional southern breakfast with smothered everything and great biscuits. It is really good and a great way to try southern food!
Ruby Slipper is also a fun spot with cajun/creole breakfast influences. It is probably the best breakfast spot to please everyone and still get to try some unique things.
BEST BARS IN THE FRENCH QUARTER:
Pat O’Briens dueling pianos is a must! It usually has a line, but once you get in it is such a blast. They basically pack people into a room with two dueling pianos that play any song request and everyone in the room sings as loud as possible to classics and shares drinks. It can really be a blast!
Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop is the oldest structure in the city to have a bar so it is a great spot to grab a drink.
Carousel Bar - This bar is inside of a hotel. There is a carousel inside it that moves and is it’s claim to fame. It doesn’t sprinkle my donuts, but people seem to love it!
Pirate’s Alley - if you dare try the absinthe. This is a famous spot and the only place in the city to sell legal absinthe. Fair warning the alcohol content level is HIGH.
Saints and Sinners - Nothing crazy about this other than Channing Tatum owns it so the girls tend to love it. And, for that reason, it is worth pointing out.
Ace Hotel’s rooftop is a really beautiful space! One of my favorite spots. My girlfriend from Los Angels and I always laugh going there cause its definitely like the other Ace Hotels in terms of lack of friendliness and run by New Yorkers. But, still the rooftop bar is super nice!
Frenchmen Street - SUPER famous for Jazz music. Places like the Spotted Cat are where all the greats played back in the day. It is the locals version of Bourbon Street, or at least it used to be. Typically, you can find lots of live music and fun spots.
Tchoup Yard is a super fun spot and great for a day hang out. There are loads of backyard games and outdoor vibes and usually lots of locals just playing corn hole and drinking beers. It is also located right where lots of brewers have popped up which is new to the city, so it is a great day drinking spot.
Musical Legends Park is such a cute romantic spot (maybe the only one) on Bourbon. I think it is only Friday nights, but a live jazz band plays outside and for a moment you feel like you are in a European city. Swoon.
Bourbon Street is filled with dozens and dozens of bars and intoxicated people. It is not where locals tend to hang out, but if you are looking to experience this side of NOLA and have a blast doing it, just pop in and out of all the bars along the street. No destination is needed here.
GOOD EATS NEW ORLEANS:
Cochon Butcher and Cochon Restaurant are both really good spots in the warehouse district with great vibes and food with a local twist. (Cochon means “pig” so that says a lot about what is on the menu).
Peche is a nice restaurant as well. Peche means “fish” so there is a lot of seafood dishes here. Nice vibes. Good food.
Pizza Domenica - Great pizzas and pastas and garlic bread knots, and a nice break from fried food.
Josephine Estelle in the Ace Hotel is a great little spot. More Los Angeles type foods like anything with a vegetable (lol) than the other places listed. Plus, you can pop up to the rooftop bar afterward.
NOLA in the French Quarter is really good. Typical cajun and creole dishes that are really well done. More pricey.
Emeril’s is super famous and fancy pants. I have never been. Heard great things! More pricey.
Commander’s Palace is SUPER famous and supposedly really amazing. Never been. Hard to get a resi. Heard amazing things! Most pricey.
St. Roch is a great stop and my personal favorite place to get biscuits. There are several vendors in this space like a small market and it is a great way to try different foods in the city!
BEST TOURIST STOPS NEW OREANS:
Napoleon’s House (yep, he had a house there that is now a restaurant) The food is not life changing, but it is cool to see. And, full disclosure, Napoleon died before getting to visit this house, so he never lived here, but it was built for him.
There are lots of huge plantation style homes in the Garden District one of which is where Mark Twain used to throw parties. These old southern homes are to die for.
Near there is St. Charles Ave. where 300-400 year old oak trees line the street. You gotta take a trolley ride down this street and see it. It is beautiful.
Jackson Square in front of the St. Louis Cathedral which is the most popular photo spot and dates back hundreds of years.
Cemeteries - Due to being below sea level, graves are all above ground in NOLA. And, many of them date back centuries and are well worth a visit. You can even visit Marie Laveaus (the famous Voodoo Queen’s) tomb. Across from Commander’s Palace is Lafayette Cemetery which is free to visit. My recommendation for a more historical tour would be to visit St. Louis Cemetery where notables have been buried. You have to do a tour, but it’s great. OH, and you can see the period tomb Nicholas Cage had built for when he dies. Kinda wild.
Swamp Tours - This isn’t necessarily “historic” perse other than people having been boating here for centuries and the cypress trees are hundreds of years old. The tours are a whole lot of fun and you get to see alligators out in the wild! I highly recommend doing one to see a completely different type of landscape and life on the bayou.
Museums - There are lots of great museums all within walking distance of each other. So, if you are looking for a break from Bourbon street this is your spot. The WW II museum is one of the best tin the country and a great way to spend the afternoon. There are also wonderful art museums like the Ogden and the Contemporary.
WHERE TO SHOP NEW ORLEANS:
The French Market in the French Quarter is the best place to shop for souvenirs and fun little things. Most of the goods are on the cheaper side so it is fun to walk about. As a kid, this was always my favorite spot!
If vintage clothing is your thing, then Royale Street is a great place for all things vintage. There are several vintage boutiques specializing in unique period clothing.
There are loads of Local shops selling New Orleans designers like Krewe Sunglasses which are great and well worth the stop in.
Magazine Street is my favorite street in the city and it is filled with loads of shops, antiques, and great eateries. It is a great way to spend an afternoon outside of bourbon. Just take the trolley car from the French Quarter.
WHAT TO PACK FOR A WEEKEND IN NEW ORLEANS:
Casual is a way of life there. While a few trendy spots have come to town and people dress more trendy/urban in those spots, for the most part, it is casual. The city is so laid-back and truly no one will care what you are wearing.
Comfy Shoes - The streets and sidewalks are uneven and often cobblestone. Tourism causes a lot of trash. And, rain doesn’t help. So, I recommend comfy shoes like tennis shoes that you are ok to get scuffed up and wet and maybe even just toss after the trip.
Sunscreen - The heat is no joke here!
Hat for sun - A hat or even an umbrella to protect against the sun is a must in the summer and maybe even year round!
Sunglasses - As mentioned above, sun protection is a must!
Backpack - I am a backpacker type of tourist because with all the heat and alcohol you will want water and a place to store your raincoat and sunscreen, etc. Plus, like in any tourist spot, keeping your things safe and protected is the way to go!
Toilet Paper/Kleenex packets - The French Quarter is old and packed with people. The bathrooms aren’t guaranteed to have TP in them so make sure to bring some! Oh and a few baby wipes wouldn’t hurt either!
Rain Coat/Jacket - If it rains, umbrellas are quite difficult on the narrow sidewalks, so a rain coat is the way to go.
Bug Spray - When it is too cold there aren’t mosquitoes, but GURL mosquitoes are a very real thang there, especially if you are going on a swap tour in the summer!
Cash - A lot of the city will accept credit card, but there are still quite a few places that are cash only. Quite literally some spots have been cash only for centuries. So, I recommend keeping some handy.
STAY SAFE AND LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL!
While the city is without a doubt one of my favorite places, it does have a darker side not all that different than parts of Los Angeles. So, I recommend being vigilant. As a tourist, you can be a target, so while I have never had anything happen, it is a high possibility. Put simply, I would just do your best to keep your wits about you and not flash money. Stay safe!

Update on New Orleans trip #1. I have eaten a snowball, half of which was wedding cake flavored, and it was delicious (the other half was raspberry because I love raspberries). Also, at the visitor center there was one of those pay to find out your weight scales, and my filthy brain kept thinking about people visiting New Orleans and weighing themselves before and after the trip 😩 -🦉
There....there is a scale at the New Orleans Visitor Center? Like this is something that that Bureau of Tourism dreamed up? Because....I like their style. I’m so glad you had a snowball! Done anything else particularly fun? I’m guessing you hit the Quarter, because it’s Nola and you gotta. If you have time, head uptown, too. Magazine Street is fun for goofing around and shopping — and you can eat at Juan’s Flying Burrito, which is kinda trendy but also worth it because their fish tacos are delicious and they do a lot of cool fusion stuff that you need in your life. Is it hot as balls? Are you having a ball? TELL ME MORE, DARLING!

It was 75° today, the warmest it’s been in at least 8 months. After an exceptionally long cold spell, 75° felt as refreshing as a snoball on a hot New Orleans day. So, I created this! It tastes exactly like a nectar snoball with condensed milk, which is a New Orleans classic in the sweltering summer (if you know, you know). This is made with Bayou Spiced and Silver Rums, homemade Li Hing Mui syrup, fresh coconut cream, Amaro Ramazzotti, tiki bitters, and an Angostura float. Bonus if you use a sweet 1980s Miami-style glass 😁. Perfect for a “hot” Salem day when you’re missing a true New Orleans snoball. #NOLAtoMA #NOLAtoSalem #drinkcraftcocktails #homebar . . . . . . . . #lihingmui #coconut #coconutcream #rum #bayou #bayoudistillery #spicedrum #silverrum #housemade #homemade #syrup #snoball #snowball #neworleans #nola #craftcocktail #craftcocktails #cocktail #cocktails #angostura #amaro #ramazzotti #amaroramazzotti #bayourum #tiki #bitters (at Salem, Massachusetts) https://www.instagram.com/p/CAeItfIlQ5M/?igshid=1wb5jm3m8bwxs

TSG Kids: Best Day Ever, NOLA Style
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We bought a book many years ago from Pippen Lane called “It’s the Best Day Ever Dad” by Brooke Shields.  It was a random purchase, but this book about a dad taking his girls out for a fun filled day turned out to be one of my kids favorite.
Over the years, we have recreated our versions of the best day ever and living in New Orleans has made this an easy task because there is ALWAYS something going on year round and the summer is no exception, just be ready for the heat!
Taylor and I both get a lot of questions from people coming to New Orleans asking for family friendly activities. We decided it was time to give out the secrets so everyone knows the best things to do here in our favorite town. Whether you are playing tourist in your hometown or you are coming to town for your first family trip to New Orleans, we hope you use these idea to create the Best Day Ever for your kids.
Tumblr media
The Audubon Aquarium and a ferry ride to Old Algiers | There are 2 particularly wonderful exhibits at the Aquarium to help children learn about the diversity of the Louisiana coast, including the Gulf of Mexico exhibit and the Mississippi River exhibit.  We also love the Amazon Rainforest and of course the penguins and the sea otters.  In the heat of the summer, the Entergy giant screen theatre is the perfect spot to sit in the AC and watch an IMAX movie.
Since the Algiers ferry terminal is a short walk from the Aquarium, we like to also take the quick 15 minute round trip ride to the West Bank so the kids can have a front row seat to the mighty Mississippi River.  The views are amazing, especially seeing St. Louis Cathedral from Algiers Point.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The French Quarter | By day, the French Quarter is the perfect spot to take kids for people watching (including all of the amazing artists), lunch, beignets, and a stroll along the Mississippi River. There will be many amazing musicians and street performers, artists and tarot card readers along the way, so make sure to stop and let them take it all in. You will never hear ‘I am bored’!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Riverbend | The Audubon Zoo, Audubon Park and The Fly are also some of our favorites because they are right in our backyard along the river in the historic Uptown neighborhood. Our favorite way to see all three is to bike around Audubon Park, stop for a snowball, zip around the Zoo and see some of our favorite animals, including the elephants in their new habitat, the Amur leopards; the tigers; and the white alligator. After we have seen enough, we stop at the Fly for a picnic of poboys (Uber delivery). They love running around or just watching the boats go by along the river.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Stay at the Windsor Court | We have had a few fun staycations at the Windsor Court over the last few years and it is definitely our favorite choice for a visit to New Orleans.  Read about our kid friendly adventures at the Windsor Court and find out why it is the best place to stay when you come to New Orleans. Their Waterman Poolside Bar is the perfect place to relax after a busy day exploring with kids.
Tumblr media
Gracious Bakery | The whole family loves a stop at Gracious Bakery, iced latte for me, breakfast sandwich for Thomas and donuts for the kids. Our road trips always include donut stops, so when Gracious Bakery opened with kid friendly tables and the best desserts, we were all thrilled to add donut runs to our weekend routine. They also have amazing sandwiches if you want to grab lunch to go and have a picnic, my favorite is the smoked ham with pecan cheddar spread, pepper jelly and apple slices on baguette.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shop | Even though most kids won’t necessarily want to shop, you must stop into two of our favorite children’s shops. Pippen Lane and Petite Peony have the best selection of kids clothes, birthday party gifts, books and accessories.  The book corner at Pippen Lane will keep them entertained while you do a little shopping, the store carries all sizes from newborn to tweens, so much coveted by mom’s too! Peony frequently hosts trunk shows and other family friendly events at the store, be sure to follow them on instagram to find out about their next event.
And, if you are in town during a birthday, read about our favorite celebratory spots in town, including some perfect for the kids!
I hope you and your family use these tips to enjoy your time in New Orleans. Whether you are a local or tourist, I hope your kids will always remember their ‘best day ever’ in New Orleans and come to love our city as much as we do.
TELL THEM SCOUT SENT YOU!

Ice Cream Sandwich Truck Gets a Shave Ice Sibling
Tumblr media
Boston SnoMobile serves flavored frozen treats
Boston’s Cookie Monstah ice cream sandwich business now has a fruity, frozen counterpart. Boston SnoMobile (styled as SnōMobile) specializes in shave ice of all kinds, from Hawaii to New Orleans and Baltimore, with a host of sweet toppings. The truck is available for hire and comes to the streets of Boston after months (and miles) of research from its founders.
Scott and Melissa Gale have operated the Cookie Monstah food truck for several years, as well as a newer brick-and-mortar Cookie Monstah bake shop in Danvers. Now they’ve added the shave ice truck to the mix, to the delight of their four children.
The truck offers three kinds of frozen treats in multiple flavors. There’s a Hawaiian version of shave ice — which bears resemblance to fluffy snow — with a choice of up to three flavors, where folks can choose from cotton candy, grape, coconut, horchata, lemon-lime, piña colada, mango or egg custard, among others. The other two desserts are modeled after snowballs (or sno-balls) from New Orleans and Baltimore, with a plain ice base and optional flavorings.
Several specials add some extra toppings to each of these styles. There’s the Big Kahuna, a Hawaiian ice with syrup and vanilla ice cream; the Inner Harbor, a Baltimore-style snowball with syrup and marshmallow sauce; and the “Big Freasy,” a New Orleans ice with syrup and sweetened condensed milk. A fourth special called the Loly consists of Nicaraguan relleno with pound cake and dulce de leche.
Still more specialty combinations include flavor mixes like mango and toasted coconut (the Aloha) or pink bubble gum and vanilla (the Pink Panther).
The SnoMobile made its debut last weekend at the Revere Beach Sand Sculpture Festival and is available for hire for special events. The company hasn’t yet announced any regularly scheduled appearances, but keep an eye on social media for updates.
