Devotion

You are what you want you want what you are desire a reflection of personal fictions, of the stories you tell yourself each night as you lie in bed, staring at a ceiling you wish were full of constellations, telling you about their eons old origins, schooling you in life and living.

I have heard many a tale of burning passions, of flames and flings, burning fingers and becoming ashes. Rarely have i found myself in those tales.

I have heard fewer tales of gentle love, of not yet knowing someone, but loving to learn of them. of falling slowly into a pit of affection, and one day realizing it has sprouted into love.

No great love like the storybooks, no tale immortalized in stars, but a small footnote at the end of the book. the lovely unnamed couple that provides a bed and warm meal.

I am no great lover, but passion is not the only devotion. The tales I tell are of Addams and Lucifers, of those who love gently, worshiping naught but love, and who love to love.

Maybe one day I'll find my deity, my other Addams, another who loves slowly as I do, or even one who is patient enough to see me happily fall to their love.

Maybe one day I'll find that one worthy of my worship, of dedicating the temple of my body, not in martyrdom, but in sweet, quiet, devotion.
