New Gotham: Part Two
Tumblr media
Sacred Martyr Church: The Sacred Martyr Church has contributed a lot to the community. For the past twenty years, it has provided hot meals to people in need and is sometimes converted into a homeless shelter when other shelters are at capacity. Food drives are organized here multiple times a year. It's where I had my first charity event for the Wayne Foundation after I became CEO of the organization. Thanks to Alfred's guidance, it was a success. It has since become a yearly event. Eight years ago, I organized a donation drive, which was interrupted by an attack by Killer Moth. Because I was hosting the event at the church, Dick had to take down Killer Moth by himself so I could preserve my secret identity. He did very well.
Tumblr media
S.K. Animal Shelter: The animal shelter was built in the 80s and was in pretty bad shape when I visited it for the Wayne Foundation. It only occupied the first floor of the building and didn't have enough room to house all of the rescues. I made a few donations to expand the shelter and the services it offers, though I'm not the only patron. Apparently, there is a young woman who visits the cats every week, and always donates food and money before leaving. Because of this, the shelter now has four full-time veterinarians, a physical therapy department and grooming rooms. I've since made it a tradition to donate to the shelter every year. Alfred, Dick and I eventually ended up adopting our own dog, Ace. He lived with us at the manor for many years until Julia brought him with her to England where he's currently living out his older years.
Tumblr media
Split Pea Catering: This is one of the most popular catering companies in Gotham City. I've done business with them on multiple occasions in the past, especially for fundraising events. They hire over a dozen chefs and provide job opportunities for ex- convicts. They also offer food and services to various soup kitchens around the city. The owner's dog, Kylie, has become the company's official mascot. She accompanies her owner when delivering food to soup kitchens and brings a lot of happiness to the citizens of Gotham. She even received the Gotham Medal of Valor for her contributions to the city. She was the first dog ever to be awarded that honor.
I remember that dog! Bruce had hired Split Pea Catering for one of his parties at the manor and there was Kylie, dressed to the nine with her medal and everything! - T. D.
Tumblr media
St. Aloysius Church: St. Aloysius is one of the oldest churches in the city. It was built in 1693 using rocks mined from the North Gotham hillside, which were provided by Wayne Mining, one of Wayne Industries' oldest branches. It's one of the only buildings in Otisburg that hasn't been modernized or replaced. Oswald Cobblepot tried to buy it multiple times to demolish it and build a new Cobblepot company headquarters in the district, similarly to Wayne Tower and Foxteca. Petitions were signed to preserve St. Aloysius church, and after Oswald's fourth purchase attempt, the city declared it a historical site. The nuns of St. Aloysius are also known to take in strays and organize adoption events at the church. I'm pretty sure Catwoman met many of her feline friends there.

Dear Diary.
I don’t have the words to express my feelings about this situation however I’m still processing it all.
When I got a ping on my phone from her mom. I was like oh okay. Here’s the conversation:
Mom: I’m sorry you have had to put up with Childzillah and her toxic boyfriends. I keep trying to get her in therapy and take her meds everyday. She was not brought to be like this 😞
ACW: I’ve been in therapy since I was 8 years old. I had gone to Blank Anonymous meetings over the years. I get it. I’ve got my own stories. I’m going through shit myself and I too am looking to get on meds. I’m just going to say that Accept, Acknowledge, Affirm, Responsibility and Ownership are the keys to self compassion and self care. I hope that one day she will realize that therapy is a good thing and maybe even a Codependency Anonymous meeting would be helpful. Regardless I’m here for her and if chooses to seek help I’ll be there for her.
Mom: Well I appreciate you taking the high road. Jaye, Bexx, Rhi and I always say to her do you realize what you are putting Aloysius through. I have tried everything with her to get her help since she was 16. I am always here if you need to vent. We are all on your side ❤️👍🙏
ACW: TYVM, Mom. Let us all hope and pray for her. I know that I am prepared to help her. I too want to held etc but in the immortal words of Whitney Houston, “I’d rather be alone than be unhappy.” I’m still working on myself and each day is a struggle but I have yet to go. We all do. One day we’ll love ourselves enough to have that partner who will do the same for us and we’ll be able to give it back, but right now we’re just on the road with the potholes etc and we’re working hard to get there. It’s true, life is a journey with a series of tollbooths and we all pay the price and hopefully it’s a learning moment to help us keep going forward onto bigger and better things. Until then, keep on trucking. Don’t just show up, show up for yourself. TTYS.
Mom: ❤️🙏
That was the extent of our conversation.
One thing I do know is that we both glossed over and skipped over the parts of her story that I had learned from my late husband. Her dearly departed father had a drinking problem. Any bottle that came with a handle, he was all about it. Mom. Over the years has checked herself in and out of various hospitals. The Brother and Fiancée apparently have nothing to do with any of this mess. I’ve got my own issues and I’m working on them. I’m saying that once you cross that line in the sand, I’m done. “You’re dead to me.”
In this case, I too had been in an abusive relationship, twice. I then went to work on it. Therapy helped me. It’s fucked up. Though I am blown away by Mom saying that she didn’t raise her kids like that. Then why have I heard that, either Mom or Dad, the parent, took a baseball bat to her car in a stupor and broke shit. Then moments later, went in the house, opened the window and threw her stuff out the window. That’s just one of many stories I’ve heard about. I’m talking about the movie, Mommie Dearest. The scene where Dunn Fadeaway and the no Wire Hangers. All the clothes go everywhere and she says, “Clean. This. Mess. Up.” What the actual fuck??!! I’m sorry. It was the liquid courage. Not sure if it was the Clear or the Brown liquor but it was the liquor. Sprinkle a little bit of mental health and BOOM.
I took the high road and said that it is her choice to ask for help. As I know firsthand, I can’t help you unless you want the help. Take those teeny tiny little itty bitty steps before you can take that one giant step. Look before you leap, still waters run deep.

Ok i’ve GOT to know 14 and 15 because josh...you have a torment hard-on unlike anyone else i have ever seen...why do you always have one OC who’s like a fucking orphan with a peg leg and almost starved to death as an infant or another one who ended up in the hospital and lost all of their money because their small time drug dealer turned out to be working for the colombian cartel and robbed them blind. josh why
ok tumblr wont let me post all of it but gimme a sec and ill edit this ask
edit:
HHSHDJDKXNXJDJZNSJ WHAT'S FUCKIN LIFE WITHOUT PERILOUS DANGER and inborn trauma and tragedy... i do it to purge myself of my own problems and to give me incentive for research and discovering different walks of life than my own ... you almost hit the nail on the head with lewis though which is the answer to
14. The roughest backstory I’ve given an OC
Lewis was made because the head of this cult wanted lewis to be born... kinda like symbolism for jesus's birth. i don't know all the lore for this cult yet but they're a small commune north of a small town in northern California. They have their own isolated community of two hundred people give or take. Lewis' mom was a teenage runaway and lewis' dad was a simple farm hand in a cruel family who treated him poorly because of mental disability and they had to have lewis because it was ordered of them and there was sorta no way out of it...they had a boy and for some reason the birth of this kid didnt feel right and he didnt feel like... divine enough to be used for ritual practice and the ultimate mission of these cults leaders... which would inevitably be a sacrifice of the boy. haha (: and so theyre like ...try again. so now Lewis was born with a fraternal sister but they only cared about Lewis...his real name is Aloysius for petes sake, he's named after a saint. Lewis isnt particularly singled out as he grows up like he doesn't know he's being especially watched because of some bullshit prophecy that was most definitely made up and no theres no angelic godly energy running through him everyone is just a bunch of freaks. Lewis grows up not knowing his siblings are his biologically because the commune is about group-raising. everyone is a sibling every adult is a parent. he doesn't know his mom is His mom but she watches him extra close and lewis gets an idea that this one women may be his Mom mom even though he doesnt have a strong concept of what that even means. Lewis is abused and neglected like other kids, him more severely by a man called Father Gabriel..we despise him ha ha. he's the most vile evil character i will ever make. Lewis's life is fine, not fine... because he's being raised in a cult... but fine in his eyes because he gets schooling in the small community school, he gets recreation activities..this is where he learns to paint, he does labor a lot but he does love when he gets to garden and pet the animals in their barn, he sings in the church choir. the hardest part about it are his visits with Father Gabriel that occur whenever father wants them to at whatever time of day and the neglect from the Brothers of the church as well. this starts when he's about 7 or 8
he's treated especially poorly and corporal punishment and solitary confinement and withholding of basic needs is a big thing. etc etc. this is a religious cult obviously so that sort of biblical fear is instilled in him. uhhh then for whatever reason i have to iron out the kids are allowed to go to private schools close by, probably as not to seem like a closed off and suspicious cult that draws attention. lewis meets chris at his school (: hehe. lewis still has to go back to the commune every weekend though and thats especially hell because things get worse when he's in middle school. uhh when high school comes around hes actually plucked out of the school system and is going back to living full time in the commune and being homeschooled except he and 5 children are selected to go on a Retreat with father gabriel and two of the Brothers..the retreat is actually just living in an abandoned home in the middle of Nebraska and its one big sacrificial ritual thats lasts a year and the kids are of course neglected, made to do odd rituals, are humiliated. uhh basically its Horror Movie stuff... i wanted it to feel like a horror movie that lewis is trying to escape from. theres no light in the house. they only use candles and daylight. theres limited food. hardly any outside time. the ultimate goal is that they'll eventually get very malnourished and then theyll be sacrificed... a little girl doesnt make it. Lewis is upset because he learned to love her as a sister. he can feel himself getting closer to death.... he has deep lacerations on his leg from abuse and theyre not getting treated and his tissue is dying and his leg is getting gangrene. he escapes one night through the corn field and he tells a man he sees in town to call the police and then flees. he realizes his leg is dying! he by chance meets a doctor! lewis has no money for amputation so he offers something Else and this disgusting doctor accepts!!! lewis is sent off with a bad wooden prosthetic and not enough healing time in bed and no physical therapy and his own supply of pain meds that will soon run out! lewis prostitutes for money and pain meds in mystic overhang!! he gets with very repulsive men that mistreat him! when lewis is touched he gets very pliable and limp as a coping mechanism! he stops the meds and withdrawals! thank you
15. The least painful backstory I’ve given an OC
My least painful backstory HHHSHDHSHS IS TANNER. jesus tanner grew up with a very...here or there father. he's not great at all. he's not the worst. but being around him feels kinda empty and they don't talk about much besides tanner in hockey and other common interests like that. his parents are divorced, he feels lost with his passions and where he's going in life. it all feels a bit aimless and he feels like he's on the Precipice of something bad or losing something he holds dear. like friends and memories and his girlfriend amiyah. his brother is really mean like pretty much abusive..he's 14 and he's narcissist asshole with a fucked up head and he makes his life hell and he's honestly a little frightening. sometimes his mom is unaware of the important things going on in tanners life and she's a bit harebrained and unfairly self absorbed but she is a good lady and he loves her. also we arent sure yet if this is canon material but he gets amiyah pregnant and she miscarries 3 months in SO...yeah there u have it.

10 Quirky finds that will help you celebrate the Year of the Pig
Tumblr media
(via 10 Quirky finds that will help you celebrate the Year of the Pig)
Tumblr media
Chinese Year of the Pig: What does 2019 have in store for you?
“Like Western astrology, Chinese astrology gives each person a sign of the zodiac to each lunar year in a cycle of 12 years.“Those 12 animals: rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog and pig are a different form of energy we can all be born under”...Your animal is determined by your date of birth and is said to reflect your strengths, weaknesses and character traits.
“A common misconception is that being in “your year” is good luck...Actually being in the year of your sign brings a close to a 12 year cycle, and your luck becomes largely dependent on the karma you have generated during this time.”
Here’s what else year of the Pigs have to look forward to.
“Love...If you are single, the year can help you meet someone who will mirror your own energy but you’ll need to step up your game...Work. It is a time when you are evaluating how far you have come up so far. Some of you might be frustrated by the results (or lack off), especially if your hard work has not been acknowledged enough. The best advice this year would be to sit still however, or to train to evolve in your career... Personal evolution. It is a great year for personal development, to delve into some form of spirituality, and to take some therapy if you need to get rid of some luggage...”

Keep Your Head Afloat with Traditional Pig and Rooster Tattoos
“Here’s why sailors got tattoos of pigs and roosters on their feet to avoid watery graves... as good luck charms to stave off drowning?
Throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries, body art became prevalent within the shipping industry, and certain images took on meanings that reflected the lives of the sailors who wore them. Images of anchors became synonymous with stability, illustrations of lighthouses stood as beacons of hope, and list goes on, which brings us to the most meaningful cargo of all — tattoos of pigs and roosters on seamen’s feet.
In the case of a shipwreck, there was really only one viable option when the lifeboats filled up: find the most buoyant object within arm’s reach...pigsty or chicken coop. The cages of these delicious animals prevented so many drownings (although exposure and the sharks got pretty much everybody if another ship didn’t come by soon) that the lore surrounding their protective properties lives on today in traditional tattoos.”

Rooster and Pig Compatibility
“The Rooster and Pig may need lots of mutual understanding to get along smoothly, since their differences aren’t exactly complementary...The Pig is generally an easy-going sign that gives in to stronger personalities, which may have to be the case with the Rooster. The Rooster likes to be in charge, to keep everything and everyone in order...
If you are a Rooster, your Chinese zodiac sign reveals that you are a perfectionist who has a lot of success because of your attention to detail. It can be hard for you to relax, so you sometimes have a hard time getting along with people. Checking your Chinese zodiac sign can give you valuable insight into your personality and help you understand why some romantic partners are better for you than others.”
“No one misses the entrance of a Rooster. You are dashing and cut quite a figure, and you know it. It’s important to you that you take care of your appearance, and you will always be clean, with a tidy hairstyle and the latest clothes that flatter your body perfectly. You analyze everything quickly, think fast, and are a perfectionist.
Pigs do not have a lot of drama in their lives, because they dislike tension and always strive to cooperate and find resolutions... Pigs will support a partner until the end, and they work steadily at any project they take on. They are intelligent, and think carefully before making decisions. You respect their thoroughness, even though you don’t always agree with their decisions.”
Tumblr media
“If these two are lovers, their smooth communication might rely, again, on the Pig’s affable nature. Especially if these two live together, conflict is almost a certainty. The Pig loves creature comforts: fine food, lovemaking, sleeping in a deliciously soft bed … The Rooster loves practicality and perfection and can’t tolerate laziness. The Pig isn’t lazy; this sign is actually very hardworking, but the Rooster may mistake its sensuality for indolence. The saving grace between these two as lovers may be their mutual dedication when in love. The Rooster is very loyal to its intimates and the Pig makes a generous, dedicated mate.
The Rooster woman is more aggressive than when the Pig man and her began dating in many cases, as the Pig man is often more attached than the Rooster female first believed according to the Chinese horoscope. Although the Rooster female is often jealous in relationships, the Pig is able to prove his loyalty, helping to rid her jealousy to keep both partners happy and satisfied. Both the Pig man and the Rooster woman excel with handling finances, allowing them to work well together in their home and even in running their own business together.”

We've been using the Gregorian calendar for 434 years. It’s still bizarre.
“[A]stronomers in Alexandria, Egypt, who helped Julius Caesar devise a new calendar in 46 BC. Until that point, the Roman calendar was a messy hodgepodge, with extra days tacked on in February every now and again based on the whims of politicians. Caesar wanted a steadier, more reliable way to mark the dates. But the new Julian calendar that resulted was still flawed. It had a leap day every four years, which turned out to be an overcorrection...By the 1570s, those slight differences had added up. The calendar was now out of sync with the solar year by about 10 days.”
”So, in 1577, Pope Gregory XIII appointed a commission, led by physician Aloysius Lilius and astronomer Christopher Clavius, to solve the problem...Gregory was able to persuade Catholic countries like Italy, Spain, and Portugal to adopt the new calendar immediately. But Protestant countries were wary of this new popish initiative, seeing it as a suspicious Catholic intrusion.
Great Britain and the American colonies didn’t actually switch over until 1752. (When they finally did, they had to erase 11 days.) Sweden only made the change in 1753. Turkey was split between the Julian and Islamic calendars until 1917...Nowadays, the Gregorian calendar has largely conquered the world, and most countries now follow it for coordination purposes.”

Pork for Thought at Carpineto Sinello’s Museum of the Pig
“Carpineto Sinello’s Museo del Maiale (Pig Museum) is almost worth visiting just for the rolling vistas and technicolour fields on a Spring drive up to this small but beautiful Chieti town, just 40 minutes outside of Vasto...Carpineto Sinello’s main street that winds you up to its the museum does leave you feeling that you are walking in a thousand foot-, hoof- & trotter-steps as you take its steep incline, admiring beautiful views out across & down into the vines of the Sinello Valley; the burning calves is worth it!
The Museo del Maiale, one of Abruzzo’s smaller museums, employs a three pronged pitchfork on Abruzzo heritage:  rural society, the relationship of culture & traditions on society, and historic agri-food traditions.  The first level of the museum is devoted exclusively to piggies which formed one part of the protein so vital in these small farming communities historically.  What could be done from head to trotter so to speak with from the sacrifice of the pig was regarded as an art form and one which was handed down generation by generation.”

What Is Buddha’s Hand Fruit & How Do You Eat It?
“Buddha’s hand is natural variation of the regular citron (Citrus medica). Historians believe the fingered variety was brought to China by way of India thanks to traveling Buddhists and hence, the origin of its name. Also known as fingered citron, this yellow fruit splits in segments that look like fingers.
Its exact history is a bit murky, though evidence points to it making its way to the Far East sometime after the 4th century AD. Following the collapse of the famous Tang dynasty, historical records from the empire of Min (909 to 945 AD) confirm it was in existence and considered to be an important fruit.”
Tumblr media
”In Traditional Chinese medicine and folklore, it is believed to symbolize happiness, longevity, and wealth. Giving a potted Buddha’s hand tree as a gift for Chinese New Year is believed to bring good fortune to the recipient. It was and still is used as a sacrificial offering at their temples. In fact, it is such a prized object there, the plant gets depicted in jade, ivory, and wood carvings.
The Japanese Buddhist monk, Myoan Eisai, is believed to be responsible for bringing the tea plant from China to his homeland, where the art of how to make matcha would be born. No one knows who brought the citron Buddha hand to Japan, but it has also been held in high esteem there for centuries. They call it bushukan and it’s popular for their New Years, too.”

All About Key Limes
“where it was carried on by Spanish settlers to Florida. It flourished in South Florida, particularly the Florida Keys, hence the current common name of Key lime. Due to hurricane-depleted soils, locals switched from pineapple commercial crops to limes in 1906, and business boomed until a hurricane once again reared and wiped out the lime groves. They were never to be restored. Today, most Key limes come from Mexico.“

How a 19th-century lemon craze gave rise to the infamous Sicilian mob
“Before there was organized crime in Sicily, however, there were lemons — lots of them.According to the researchers, the island’s lemon industry exploded in the 19th century as doctors around the world realized the fruit cured scurvy, a condition caused by lack of vitamin C. That created a huge global demand for lemons, which grow well in the Sicilian climate, but had not been a major export previously.Lemon-growing became hugely lucrative. Some historians have estimated that, by the mid-1880s, it was 60 times more profitable to grow a hectare of lemons (roughly 2.5 square acres) in Sicily than to grow other crops, like olives, grapes or wheat.”
Tumblr media
”But lemon growers also faced challenges, among them, dealing with brokers who sold the fruit abroad and fending off thieves who raided groves by night. As a result, many growers began contracting “protectors” to watch their trees and enforce their contracts...This gave both money and structure to a loosely affiliated band of brigands and businessmen, helping them consolidate into the Mafia as it's known today...further evidence for the link between high-value export crops and organized crime — a link that continues to vex many places, including Italy. The Mafia's agricultural holdings there topped $23 billion in 2016, according to the Italian farm lobby... Similarly, in Michoacán, Mexico, where the production value of limes nearly doubled between 2003 and 2011 on the back of growing U.S. demand, the Templarios cartel has grown rich seizing lime farms from owners and pocketing the profits.”

How Citrus Fruits Became an Ancient Status Symbol
“Lemons were a sign of privilege and wealth in ancient Rome.
The first citrus to arrive in the Mediterranean was the citron, which followed a path of westward migration, starting in Persia before traveling through the Middle East, arriving in the Mediterranean region around the 4th or 5th century B.C. Lemons arrived next, around four centuries later...
Since the citron was the first to reach the Mediterranean, the whole group of fruits (citrus fruits) is named after it. As both of these early fruits were incredibly rare, they were coveted by the ancient elite, who boasted of their healing and cleaning powers and their pleasant smell. The fruits even took on a religious significance in some early civilizations.”
Tumblr media
“While citron and lemon arrived in the Mediterranean as elite products, all other citrus fruit most probably spread for economic reasons,”...It wasn’t until the 10th century A.D. that other citruses such as the sour orange, lime and pummelo were introduced to the Mediterranean Basin by invading Muslims, and sweet oranges and mandarins didn’t arrive until even later still (in the 1400s and 1800s, respectively, as part of lucrative new trade routes).”

Jeju’s fruitful citrus history
“In the 2nd year of his reign in 476, King Munju of the Baekje kingdom was offered mandarins from the Tamna kingdom (present day Jeju Island). The fruit was used for ceremonies to honor people's ancestors, for medicinal purposes and for entertaining honored royal guests. It was so popular that it was not long before the Goryeo rulers were managing an official orchard on Jeju.
Modern industrialized citrus cultivation began in the 1910s, supported by governmental policies seeking to increase production.Since then the reputation of the fruit has only increased, and now it is one of Korea’s best-loved fruits.”

Dutch “Marco Polo” of Joseon Dynasty Gets Jeju Island Statue
“In 1653, 364 years ago, the first man to leave a written record about the Korean people set foot on Jeju Island soil. Hendrick Hamel and his crew of Dutchmen were on a merchant ship christened “De Sperwer” headed to Japan when fearsome waves and winds in the seas wrecked their vessel.  Thirteen years later, Hamel and eight others escaped to neighboring Japan (they were not allowed to leave Joseon), where it is believed that Hamel recorded his stay in Korea, titled “Hamel’s Journal and a Description of the Kingdom of Korea, 1653-1666”.
To commemorate the courage of the Dutch sailors and mark the meeting of East and West, the Ocean Exploration and Culture Research Institute, the Hendrick Hamel Memorial Society and the neighborhood of Sindo 2-ri have announced a memorial to be built in memory of Hamel’s crew.”

Helping the other to his hiding place, Yun felt his lust, the desire to take this one as his bed mate for the week only growing due to that sweet enticing scent the other was producing. And with him clinging to the dragon, Yun let out a softer if not possessive mewl.
Tumblr media
Once they made it, he helped the other and handed him the basket once again. His instincts were screaming for a taste, one kiss-a sample to savor for the week. Now his skin was starting to itch and his temperature growing hotter, his mind reminding him of what he and Aloysius used to do under the light of the full moon…
The other’s scent was getting stronger, and it was by instinct that his own scent started pouring out like pollen to attract bees.  The vines already on his person started crawling up his skin, peaking through the already loose robes like living tattoos.
Tumblr media
But they separated, and he whined softly, biting his lip.  He took the basket, setting it down. “A-Are you… are you leaveing??”  He hated himself for askin, but the prospect of having someone to surrender to this heat was… too good for him not to speak up.  He would argue lter he wasn’t thinking straihgt, that his scent, the power he sense, and the heat made him muddled.
That whine was delectable and Yun had to force himself to reign in his instincts. “Have to...both of us are not in-” He let out a slight curse in his adopted homeland’s tongue. “We’re not in our right minds.” There he said it, but dammit he couldn’t begin to think of anything else right now.
Tumblr media
He’s been untouched for a thousand years, the ruts were becoming even more painful and he’s been warned the longer he denies his body, he might wind up in worse shape.  He needed therapy for his PTSD, he shouldn’t be here still, and yet he felt his body making it clear that what he needed, no who, was right here. Those vines crawling all over him had the dragon intrigued, his mind blinking out of the fog that was threatening to overpower him. Was the soul he was looking at it...a deity?
