Getting my black and white film tomorrow cuz the store ran out and they don't know when they're getting more. I had to order it online. I should have got 120 film too.
I also want a 6x9 camera. Fujifilm one is pricey but its only one I kinda want. Then not sure which version to get. I have an old kodak junior thats 6x9 but needs new bellows. Maybe I can fix that. Or just get that damn camera 😆
Then I need a lens fixed for one of my precious Pentax cameras. It doesn't focus at infinity for whatever reason. Weirdo. Its one of my favorite cameras/lens. The lab wants 75$ down for them to take a look at the camera/lens. Ugh hopefully soon.

Everyone can have their obsession with whatever and move on but Carmilla will forever hold a place in my heart
#and every web series and film that’s been made in relation with it#I blow kisses to the angsty sexy vampire Carmilla every day and have done so since the age of 11#sexy in a woman way#if you know what I mean you just know she looked so glorious in a plain white dress with long black hair#commanded the streets#idk you get it idk#the webseries is something so sweet and it’s weird because#I never thought I’d be left yearning for that time in my life when I first watched it#but introducing my friend to it and us getting excited and talking about it and the silly details#there’s something so 2000s lesbian tumblr of it#when everything felt so simple#and I am genuinely in awe of how they set it up#I mean the fact it’s just a camera in one stationary position for the entirety of each season#and all the excitement comes purely from acting and use of props#Genius and sublime#proving that you don’t need a huge budget to make something so memorable and one of its kind#no one has done anything like it since people#and NOONE had done it before#just like Carmilla the novella it remains singular#and it’s not just lesbian it’s the almost all female cast with a clear disinterest in men#like no one needs men in this no one asks for them they appear against everyone’s will#it was SO refreshing to see as a young girl#idk

Some of my favorites from the roll of film I just developed!
These were taken with outrageously expired Kodak TRI-X 400 on a medium format Holga toy camera, which I modified to use 35mm film using rubber bands and some cut-up sponges. I developed them in my basement sink with Cinestill Df96 monobath.
I'm not entirely sure how long this roll was in the camera, but based on a few of the early photos it's been at least 8 years. Scanning them was an absolute beast. The film had been tightly curled so long that I had to press each section under a piece of glass scavenged from an unused picture frame to get it to lay flat in the scanner. I'm thrilled with the results, though! Very atmospheric, sorta creepy.
The first shot is of our back deck, and the other three are from a walk Nik and I went on at Beanblossom Bottoms Nature Preserve. Can you spot Nik? 👀

you ever have a dream so unbelievably cool that when you wake up you just about screech in rage that it ended too early...
#my posts#that's me right now i'm going to explode#the first half of the dream leading up to the cool part SUCKED but the second half made up for it#imagine a theater performance except holograms actually work and are hyper-realistic.#it was this HUGE theater room with sections of seating and a large open floor and several screens#and like when it started it was like the screens were set up for the different groups right?#WRONG they showed different things as the show went on#it was like. a story about a cursed Disney cartoon but the wild part was like its story was kinda like the Ring#where if you watched the film things could come out of it. and you see where this is going!!#like it was subtle at first with just a character or two wandering past#but then there would be these meta bits where the entity would look at the audience through the screen#then vanish. and something seems like it's wrong with the equipment#and then it COMES OUT OF THE FLOOR#like you had this HUGE stretched out rubberhose entity that TOWERED over the audience#the room would go dark in those moments too so it'd be this BRIGHT black and white Thing#like i'm legitimately going insane over how cool it looked jesus christ#and there was some kind of a mystery going on; the entity Wanted something but we never found out what#...... oh my god i just figured out why it turned into Deltarune at the end i'm so mad#(the entity would always be accompanied by a cartoon 'ding dong' and my brain went#hehe wing dings i'm so mad. not even a cool twist but WHATEVER)#anyway it ended with visuals of a Deltarune AU with such cool designs I NEED TO DRAW IT.#i won't do it justice at all but by god it needs to exist somewhere other than my head holy heck#anyway. it was insane ok trust me

just watched the first avatar movie the whole way through for the first time and my thoughts are only this: james cameron has no business talking shit about marvel movies.

Also a lot, and I mean a lot of people supporting Palestine aren't overprivileged (in fact many against it are powerful figures- look at how many rich celebrities are anti Palestine). Genocidal bootlickers write off supporters as upper middle class whiny little white kids when so many aren't- not to mention there's a strong history of black and Palestinian solidarity. Malcolm X was a well known supporter of Palestine in the civil rights era and personally visited Gaza, and also met with the The Palestinian Liberation Organization. Black activists supported Palestine so to continuously write off supporters as bratty stupid white kids hopping on a trend erases that history. Which is what colonialism is best for, hence the unity in anti colonialism and anti racism. It matters to me for the same reasons it mattered to my ancestors and relatives. Not that it needs to- plenty of people can be decent without those historical ties. But to reduce it to a trend and erase that history is deplorable and very much racist. These communities have a strong historical solidarity
Many poc know the immense weight of the racist reblogs in most posts like this (its even in the reblogs here and its not like op cares to comment on it so i can only imagine they agree. i wouldn't be silent on that shit idk) calling Arabs things like goat/donkey fuckers- which is how all of you sound btw. And you can't go "oh they're just saying that about Hamas!" because where are they getting that generalization from? Pretty sure it's the racist stereotype that Arabs all partake in bestiality. And there's also a lot of weight in calling them things like animals, children of darkness, beasts, and savages, more weight than some realize.
Painting a group as sexually predatory and deviant to dehumanize them is something very often used to justify killing them. Gay people, trans people, black people, Native Americans. Maybe you don't think about the claims of black people being "super predators", don't think about people like Emmett Till or events like the Duluth lynchings when you hear that kind of shit and see that image painted of a people, plenty of us do though. The language we hear every day by people on this side of history is language we've never heard from people on the good side of history. Never.
Do the good guys use words like savages? Goat/donkey fuckers, beasts, animals, people of darkness, inhuman, monkeys, sand people (or sand n*ggers if you're feeling spicy), pigs, bloodthirsty, collateral damage (in reference to human lives)? You got anything like that for me written by the good guys in history? The ones that weren't the oppressors and aggressors? Did the oppressed need to "defend" themselves by committing crimes against humanity?
The justifications for occupying Gaza and the actions taken against innocents mirror stories I've heard passed down from formerly enslaved family members during WW2. How Hitler and other figures spoke of them, treated them, dehumanized them, assaulted them, tortured them, exterminated them. The atrocities I see coming out of Gaza are often similar to events I've heard out of the mouths of people who survived genocides. So yeah it's not like there aren't white people who also see what's going on and can't help but think back to injustices their people have faced. So again even though it's not like that generational trauma is required, you can't generalize white supporters as all performative or stupid. And plenty of Jewish people recognize what genocide looks like for obvious reasons and stand by Palestine
Also if protesting were pointless they wouldn't be trying to illegalize boycotting businesses! They're shitting their britches actually! Look at all the Starbucks closing down and all their new "holiday deals". Look at the prices of Squishmallows right now. Public protests get a lot of coverage and show just how many people strongly advocate for the liberation. People on your side of history are no different from the people who have told my people (from multiple lineages) to shut up, obey, be good, accept the lynchings and the injustice and the slavery, they're all bad and all the oppressors are doing is putting them in their place and/or defending themselves against animals. You also can't dismiss all criticism of the Israeli government's actions against Palestine as antisemitism. Any government deemed exempt from criticism deserves the most criticism. You can't dismiss criticism as if it's all coming from a place of ignorance, ignoring the context of so many people's advocacy. I don't support Palestine for followers or praise or whatever, just the right thing to do. When I see what's happening I do this crazy radical thing called having some fucking humanity. Summary: Charles Leclerc is the perfect man for you … getting stopped on the street for a random TikTok challenge just serves to prove that even further
The warm Monaco sun beats down on you as you stroll leisurely along the bustling sidewalk, a canvas tote bag filled with fresh produce and flowers from the local farmer’s market hanging from your shoulder. The salty sea breeze wafts across your face, carrying with it the excited chatter and laughter of tourists admiring the luxurious yachts bobbing in Port Hercules.
You smile to yourself, relishing this perfect Mediterranean afternoon. Just a quick stop at home to drop off your purchases, and then maybe you’ll take a dip in the infinity pool on the terrace to cool off before Charles is done with-
“Excusez-moi, mademoiselle!” A young man’s voice breaks through your daydreaming. You glance over to see a twenty-something guy with a neatly trimmed beard, expensive-looking sunglasses, and a black t-shirt emblazoned with HUSTLE in white block letters. He’s holding a mini microphone and has his iPhone pointed at you, clearly filming.
A TikToker.
You sigh internally but force a polite smile.
“Oui, puis-je vous aider?” You reply in French.
“Ah sorry, I don’t speak much French! Do you speak English?” The TikToker asks eagerly in a British accent.
“Yes, I do. Can I help you with something?” You say, switching to English yourself. You just want to get home but you know these influencer types can be annoyingly persistent.
The TikToker grins. “Brilliant! I’m doing a social experiment for my followers. I was wondering — do you have a significant other? A boyfriend or husband perhaps?”
You raise an eyebrow questioningly but decide to humor him. “Um, yes, I have a boyfriend,” you answer simply.
His eyes light up. “Fantastic! And would you say your boyfriend loves you very much?”
You can’t help but chuckle at the boldness of this stranger’s line of questioning. “Yes, I would definitely say that. He loves me a lot,” you confirm, a soft smile playing on your lips as you think of Charles.
“Perfect! Okay, here’s the challenge,” the TikToker announces dramatically, staring intensely into his camera. “I want you to call up your boyfriend right now and ask him to send you some money. Doesn’t matter how much. But for every €100 he sends, I’ll give you €20 to keep for yourself. Let’s see how much he really loves you, shall we?”
You stare at this guy incredulously for a moment before bursting out laughing. Is he serious? He clearly has no idea who your boyfriend is. An amused smirk spreads across your face as you fish your iPhone out of your designer purse.
“Alright, you’re on,” you say confidently, already unlocking your phone and tapping on Charles’ contact. The TikToker looks surprised but excited that you actually agreed to his silly challenge.
“Put it on speaker phone,” he instructs, zooming his camera in on your phone screen which is now dialing Charles.
After a few rings, the warm, honey-smooth voice you adore comes through. “Allô mon amour, what’s up?” Charles greets you sweetly. “I’m just finishing up some simulator runs but I should be done soon to help with dinner.”
“Hey baby,” you reply, your voice automatically softening. “Sorry to bother you, I know you’re busy. But I’m out right now and I just passed by that little boutique near the casino, you know the one? And I saw the most incredible pair of shoes in the window. I swear they were calling my name.”
Charles laughs affectionately, the sound like music to your ears even through the cell phone speaker. “Oh yeah? The ones that were calling your name last week turned out to be, what was it, €900?” He teases.
You roll your eyes playfully even though he can’t see. “Okay, fair, but you know I hardly ever splurge on myself. I’m usually so frugal!”
“Mmhmm, whatever you need to tell yourself, chérie,” Charles says wryly and you can practically hear the smirk in his voice. “Let me guess, you need to go get these dream shoes right now? Or else they’ll haunt you forever?”
“You know me so well,” you gush dramatically. “I promise I’ll pay you back though! I get paid next week and-”
“Hey, hey, stop,” Charles cuts you off gently. “Mon cœur, you never have to pay me back, you know that. I love being able to treat you and spoil you. You deserve the world. Never forget that.”
You feel yourself melt at his earnest words, momentarily forgetting you have an audience. “I love you so much,” you murmur. “Thank you for always being so good to me.”
“Right back at you, ma belle. Je t’aime,” Charles says tenderly. “There, check your banking app. Let me know if you need any more. And have fun shopping! I’ll see you at home in a bit, okay? À bientôt!”
You glance down at your phone as a notification from your bank pops up on the screen. Your eyes widen slightly when you see the amount Charles sent over, but you recover quickly.
“Thank you, baby. See you soon!” You reply before hanging up. You turn back to the TikToker who is gaping at you in disbelief. Casually, you turn your phone screen towards him and his camera so he can clearly see the notification that €10,000 has just been deposited into your account.
The poor guy looks like he’s about to pass out from shock. He opens and closes his mouth a few times, rendered speechless. You just laugh good-naturedly.
“Well, guess I won your little challenge, huh?” You remark, slipping your phone back into your purse. “Tell you what, why don’t you donate whatever money you were going to give me to a local animal shelter instead? I think it’ll be put to much better use there.”
The TikToker finally manages to pick his jaw up off the floor. He laughs shakily and nods. “Yeah ... yeah I can do that. Wow. Um, thanks for being such a good sport about this. And congrats on, uh, winning, I guess?”
You give him a friendly wink. “Anytime. Have a nice rest of your day!” With that, you turn gracefully on your heel and continue on your way back home, feeling rather smug and deeply appreciative of your wonderfully generous boyfriend.
“Wait!” The TikToker calls out after you. You glance back over your shoulder curiously. He hesitates before asking in an awed voice, “If you don’t mind me asking ... who the hell is your boyfriend?”
An enigmatic smile plays on your lips. “No one special really,” you reply breezily. “Just a guy who loves driving fast cars.”
You leave the gaping TikToker in your wake as you saunter off, already daydreaming about showing your appreciation to Charles later for being the most incredible boyfriend imaginable.
Maybe you really will splurge on those designer shoes after all … and pick up a little something special from the lingerie boutique next door while you’re at it.
Your smile widens. Just as a little thank you to your man, of course. Life is good when you’re in love with Charles Leclerc.

Why reblog machine-generated art?
When I was ten years old I took a photography class where we developed black and white photos by projecting light on papers bathed in chemicals. If we wanted to change something in the image, we had to go through a gradual, arduous process called dodging and burning.
When I was fifteen years old I used photoshop for the first time, and I remember clicking on the clone tool or the blur tool and feeling like I was cheating.
When I was twenty eight I got my first smartphone. The phone could edit photos. A few taps with my thumb were enough to apply filters and change contrast and even spot correct. I was holding in my hand something more powerful than the huge light machines I'd first used to edit images.
When I was thirty six, just a few weeks ago, I took a photo class that used Lightroom Classic and again, it felt like cheating. It made me really understand how much the color profiles of popular web images I'd been seeing for years had been pumped and tweaked and layered with local edits to make something that, to my eyes, didn't much resemble photography. To me, photography is light on paper. It's what you capture in the lens. It's not automatic skin smoothing and a local filter to boost the sky. This reminded me a lot more of the photomanipulations my friend used to make on deviantart; layered things with unnatural colors that put wings on buildings or turned an eye into a swimming pool. It didn't remake the images to that extent, obviously, but it tipped into the uncanny valley. More real than real, more saturated more sharp and more present than the actual world my lens saw. And that was before I found the AI assisted filters and the tool that would identify the whole sky for you, picking pieces of it out from between leaves.
You know, it's funny, when people talk about artists who might lose their jobs to AI they don't talk about the people who have already had to move on from their photo editing work because of technology. You used to be able to get paid for basic photo manipulation, you know? If you were quick with a lasso or skilled with masks you could get a pretty decent chunk of change by pulling subjects out of backgrounds for family holiday cards or isolating the pies on the menu for a mom and pop. Not a lot, but enough to help. But, of course, you can just do that on your phone now. There's no need to pay a human for it, even if they might do a better job or be more considerate toward the aesthetic of an image.
And they certainly don't talk about all the development labs that went away, or the way that you could have trained to be a studio photographer if you wanted to take good photos of your family to hang on the walls and that digital photography allowed in a parade of amateurs who can make dozens of iterations of the same bad photo until they hit on a good one by sheer volume and luck; if you want to be a good photographer everyone can do that why didn't you train for it and spend a long time taking photos on film and being okay with bad photography don't you know that digital photography drove thousands of people out of their jobs.
My dad told me that he plays with AI the other day. He hosts a movie podcast and he puts up thumbnails for the downloads. In the past, he'd just take a screengrab from the film. Now he tells the Bing AI to make him little vignettes. A cowboy running away from a rhino, a dragon arm-wrestling a teddy bear. That kind of thing. Usually based on a joke that was made on the show, or about the subject of the film and an interest of the guest.
People talk about "well AI art doesn't allow people to create things, people were already able to create things, if they wanted to create things they should learn to create things." Not everyone wants to make good art that's creative. Even fewer people want to put the effort into making bad art for something that they aren't passionate about. Some people want filler to go on the cover of their youtube video. My dad isn't going to learn to draw, and as the person who he used to ask to photoshop him as Ant-Man because he certainly couldn't pay anyone for that kind of thing, I think this is a great use case for AI art. This senior citizen isn't going to start cartooning and at two recordings a week with a one-day editing turnaround he doesn't even really have the time for something like a Fiverr commission. This is a great use of AI art, actually.
I also know an artist who is going Hog Fucking Wild creating AI art of their blorbos. They're genuinely an incredibly talented artist who happens to want to see their niche interest represented visually without having to draw it all themself. They're posting the funny and good results to a small circle of mutuals on socials with clear information about the source of the images; they aren't trying to sell any of the images, they're basically using them as inserts for custom memes. Who is harmed by this person saying "i would like to see my blorbo lasciviously eating an ice cream cone in the is this a pigeon meme"?
The way I use machine-generated art, as an artist, is to proof things. Can I get an explosion to look like this. What would a wall of dead computer monitors look like. Would a ballerina leaping over the grand canyon look cool? Sometimes I use AI art to generate copyright free objects that I can snip for a collage. A lot of the time I use it to generate ideas. I start naming random things and seeing what it shows me and I start getting inspired. I can ask CrAIon for pose reference, I can ask it to show me the interior of spaces from a specific angle.
I profoundly dislike the antipathy that tumblr has for AI art. I understand if people don't want their art used in training pools. I understand if people don't want AI trained on their art to mimic their style. You should absolutely use those tools that poison datasets if you don't want your art included in AI training. I think that's an incredibly appropriate action to take as an artist who doesn't want AI learning from your work.
However I'm pretty fucking aggressively opposed to copyright and most of the "solid" arguments against AI art come down to "the AIs viewed and learned from people's copyrighted artwork and therefore AI is theft rather than fair use" and that's a losing argument for me. In. Like. A lot of ways. Primarily because it is saying that not only is copying someone's art theft, it is saying that looking at and learning from someone's art can be defined as theft rather than fair use.
Also because it's just patently untrue.
But that doesn't really answer your question. Why reblog machine-generated art? Because I liked that piece of art.
It was made by a machine that had looked at billions of images - some copyrighted, some not, some new, some old, some interesting, many boring - and guided by a human and I liked it. It was pretty. It communicated something to me. I looked at an image a machine made - an artificial picture, a total construct, something with no intrinsic meaning - and I felt a sense of quiet and loss and nostalgia. I looked at a collection of automatically arranged pixels and tasted salt and smelled the humidity in the air.
I liked it.
I don't think that all AI art is ugly. I don't think that AI art is all soulless (i actually think that 'having soul' is a bizarre descriptor for art and that lacking soul is an equally bizarre criticism). I don't think that AI art is bad for artists. I think the problem that people have with AI art is capitalism and I don't think that's a problem that can really be laid at the feet of people curating an aesthetic AI art blog on tumblr.
Machine learning isn't the fucking problem the problem is massive corporations have been trying hard not to pay artists for as long as massive corporations have existed (isn't that a b-plot in the shape of water? the neighbor who draws ads gets pushed out of his job by product photography? did you know that as recently as ten years ago NewEgg had in-house photographers who would take pictures of the products so users wouldn't have to rely on the manufacturer photos? I want you to guess what killed that job and I'll give you a hint: it wasn't AI)
Am I putting a human out of a job because I reblogged an AI-generated "photo" of curtains waving in the pale green waters of an imaginary beach? Who would have taken this photo of a place that doesn't exist? Who would have painted this hypersurrealistic image? What meaning would it have had if they had painted it or would it have just been for the aesthetic? Would someone have paid for it or would it be like so many of the things that artists on this site have spent dozens of hours on only to get no attention or value for their work?
My worst ratio of hours to notes is an 8-page hand-drawn detailed ink comic about getting assaulted at a concert and the complicated feelings that evoked that took me weeks of daily drawing after work with something like 54 notes after 8 years; should I be offended if something generated from a prompt has more notes than me? What does that actually get the blogger? Clout? I believe someone said that popularity on tumblr gets you one thing and that is yelled at.
What do you get out of this? Are you helping artists right now? You're helping me, and I'm an artist. I've wanted to unload this opinion for a while because I'm sick of the argument that all Real Artists think AI is bullshit. I'm a Real Artist. I've been paid for Real Art. I've been commissioned as an artist.
And I find a hell of a lot of AI art a lot more interesting than I find human-generated corporate art or Thomas Kincaid (but then, I repeat myself).
There are plenty of people who don't like AI art and don't want to interact with it. I am not one of those people. I thought the gay sex cats were funny and looked good and that shitposting is the ideal use of a machine image generation: to make uncopyrightable images to laugh at.
I think that tumblr has decided to take a principled stand against something that most people making the argument don't understand. I think tumblr's loathing for AI has, generally speaking, thrown weight behind a bunch of ideas that I think are going to be incredibly harmful *to artists specifically* in the long run.
Anyway. If you hate AI art and you don't want to interact with people who interact with it, block me.

The Rocky Horror discourse is so annoying, upsetting, and transmisogynistic cuz it often starts off as trans women just honestly discussing how they have trauma related to it or how the film has all the classic transmisogynistic tropes of killer/rapist man crossdressing or how the creator has said some bigoted stuff, and the tme response to personal stories of trauma and actual media analysis is always the same cycle of responses.
"MY trans women friends love it!" Ok that doesn't matter to the point "It's important queer history!" That's why this discussion matters, we need people to understand that queer history can also be transmisogynistic "it's from 50 years ago society is DIFFERENT!" The world is not so different that transmisogyny doesn't exist "the creator is trans!" The creator has said transmisogynistic things and just because he himself might be tma doesn't mean he can't be transmisogynistic or that his transmisogyny doesn't actually influence his identity. "Rocky Horror is ONLY popular cuz transfems love it!" Spacelazar said this one in response to a post I made about actual trauma I have related to the movie, completely discarding my actual real trauma that's not saying you're not allowed to like or watch the movie, to claim that Rocky Horror is only popular cuz of transfems - that cis society isn't more why it's considered a cult classic.
And, tme people just refuse to empathize and often resort to name calling, memes, often times not just falling into misogynistic standards (hysterical women/trannies amiright guys) but also racist remarks (I saw a white tme person make a "woke" joke to mock a black person).
It's just completely dishonest and transmisogynistic. The discussion isn't "you're not allowed to watch Rocky Horror" or "you're a bad person for enjoying it" it's that it's a piece of problematic media that exhibits transmisogynistic bigotry and instead of using their big kid brains and acknowledging that and moving on, tme people really need Rocky Horror to be exonerated as this piece of perfection. (Tbf I think it's largely just cuz it's trans women having an issue, if cis men said Rocky Horror was offensive and misandric I'm sure people would be like oh yeah it is!).
