Monthly Digest | September 2022
Reading Maledictions: A Horror Anthology by Cassandra Khaw, I ended up really enjoying this collection of horror short stories. It was just great to pick up here and there and read something when I didn’t have a ton of time. That being said, it is a collection and I liked some sort stories better than others. I feel like that is just how collections work though in general. This was also my first…

Guess who decided to teach themselves how to crochet. It’s wonky as shit, I missed a couple stitches and I’m still having a lot of issues keeping the right tension, but for my first day learning, it’s not actually awful so I’m pretty proud

Home for the Holidays: Bonus “CIWYW” Story (Trans!Steve and Pan!Bucky Modern AU)
Seven:
"I didn't know you could skate," Bucky said, positively awestruck by Steve as they sat off to the side by themselves, drinking hot chocolate.
Steve hid his blush by looking at the to-go cup, as he tried to brush off Bucky's admiration, "It's not that impressive. I mean, look at Nat."
"Nattie's good at everything she does," Bucky good-humoredly scoffed. Then, he affectionately bumped his shoulder against Steve's as he adoringly teased, "Apparently, so are you."
That made Steve's blush grow and stretch, all the way up to the tips of his ears. Which he was grateful to be wearing a soft, crocheted blue stocking hat to hide it. Looking up at Bucky, Steve's heart fluttered. The soft way that Bucky was gazing at him made Steve think that maybe -- just maybe -- Bucky loved him too.
No, Steve shook the thought from his head. He wasn't about to get his hopes up. He wasn't going to build this week up only to have to say goodbye again until a Norse God knew when he'd see Bucky again.
So, instead of overthinking and searching for something that would only break his heart once the week was up, Steve decided to do the one thing he could in that moment: Kiss Bucky. Steve leaned in and sweetly pressed his lips to Bucky's. Enjoying the kiss and wanting to memorize it all. The slight chap to his lips. The taste of hot chocolate. The way that Bucky lifted his hand to cradle Steve's face in his hands and held him as though he was the most precious gift in the world.
"Oh, get a room," Sam's deep voice teased as he joined them at the table.
Pulling apart, Steve hid his blushing face in Bucky's broad shoulder while Bucky wrapped his arm around Steve's waist, holding him close. Across from them, Sam feigned disgust, even though it was easy to tell by his grin alone that he was happy for the pair.
So much so that Sam complained, "I gotta get a girlfriend."
"That's a mood," Natasha agreed as she sat down next to Sam with a to-go hot chocolate of her own.
"Oh, please," Sam scoffed and argued, "You practically have a girlfriend!"
Taking a sip of her hot chocolate, Natasha feigned confusion as she playfully asked, "I do?"
"Yeah, ya know, athletic, smart, blonde," Sam teased, exaggeratedly wiggling his eyebrows.
“I’m sure I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Natasha demurely stated, taking an elegant sip of her hot cocoa.
Of course, she did know and so did everyone else. Natasha had been talking with Sharon for about as long as Steve had been talking with Bucky. And much like Steve, Natasha was also afraid of telling Sharon just how deeply she felt for her. Although, there was one huge difference between the pairs, Bucky — and the rest of the Barnes — had been able to travel to New York to be with Steve. Whereas the Carter’s traveled to DC to visit their relatives. Natasha still held out hope that they’d be able to see each other, and Steve held out hope for them too. He shouldn’t be the only fortunate one this holiday season.
Then, Natasha added, "And you forgot to say, 'Empathetic, compassionate, and the most beautiful woman the world has ever seen."
“Maybe we can road trip,” Mandy helpfully suggested.
Natasha grinned at that, even though there was a sadness in her eyes. Steve wasn’t sure if her cousins could see it, but he saw it. Recognizing it and categorizing it, so he could remember to comfort her more later. For now though, Steve simply reached across the table and gave her hand a soothing squeeze.
Cuddling just a bit closer, Bucky kissed the side of Steve’s head and agreed with his younger sister, “A road trip sounds fun.”
“Road trip?” Darlene excitedly questioned as she joined the teens at the table with her camera hanging around her neck and Tibby at her side.
Sam nodded his confirmation, but when Sarah joined the table she rejected the idea entirely as she reminded Steve and Natasha, “I hate to be that mom, but definitely not gonna happen.”
“Why not?” Winifred asked, helping Eddie with his hot chocolate.
“They know why,” Joseph clarified with a chuckle before further explaining for those not involved, “You give them a car and well wishes and they end up in Pennsylvania instead of with Ivan Up North.”
“In our defense,” Natasha breezily cut in while the Arkansas clan laughed at the quick story, “Would you want to be stuck with my dad? There’s a reason why he’s saved as, ‘Ivan the Terrible,’ in my phone.”
Words of assent were shared among the group with, "That's true," and, "No, definitely not," because really, who would ever want to be left with Natasha's dad? Certainly not anyone at the table, and Steve was willing to bet no one else would either. After all, his ex-fiancée called off the engagement because he was an, "egotistical, narcissistic, jealous, mother fucking asshole who is incapable of loving because he has no heart, and shouldn't even be allowed to be a father because he sure as shit doesn't care about what's best for his daughter!"
Or at least that was what Natasha had relayed back to Steve. And considering Natasha sided with her, that said a lot. Really though, it just made Steve feel even more protective over his best friend than he originally had. Steve could tell that he wasn't the only one though. Not only did Natasha's family care about her and her well-being, but so did his own family. Sarah and Joseph did give Natasha a key to their house for a reason.
Rubbing Natasha's back, Sarah maternally kissed her temple and smoothed her hand over Natasha's freshly colored vibrant red hair. Motherly, Sarah assured, "That's why you're our daughter."
"No give-backs!" Natasha joked, resting her head on Sarah's shoulder.
"Nah, we'd never be able to do that," Steve reassured, winking at his best friend. Holding Bucky just a bit closer, Steve confirmed, "We keep the ones we like."

I love designing menswear! ✅ First, men look great wearing knits. Everyone from James Dean and Ernest Hemingway to Don Draper and The Dude have made natty knitwear look like their outfit’s main event. Cable knits, cardigans, sweatshirts and Breton tops are all high-impact options in a man’s wardrobe. . ✅ Second, the knitwear is versatile. Whether you’re going for an elegant and formal outfit, a cool and casual style or even something office-appropriate, a pullover or cardigan can make an excellent option. . ✅ Third, I just love seeing guys knitting! As a person who hates stereotypes, I salute men with needles (and crochet hooks!) My heart sings when I see guys who don't have to rely on the kindness of women in their life but can knit something nice themselves! . So today I'm offering 𝟓𝟎% 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬 in my Ravelry store! No code needed! . Greetings & Welcome to Oddity Bobbity!
Hello fellow craft enthusiasts. My name is Natty and I love starting 50 projects while already having 50 projects in waiting haha 💙
In all seriousness, this blog is to document my crafting and keep me on track for finishing those projects I've started (master list to come soon). I focus on crochet, knit, and sewing, but also love to expand my knowledge in other areas such as cards, photography, and woodworking... basically, I love being crafty!
Since I don't quite have one style or item I'd like to focus on I've created Oddity Bobbity; with this is the intent of having odd & end crafts as well as a rotating stock to ensure the items I make are made with love instead of mechanical processing just to get product out.
Join me on this wonderfully creative adventure and please know that my inbox is open to suggestions/ideas!

A Hard Lesson in Matters of the Heart: Chapter 9
Tumblr media
Authors’ Note: Hello, hello, sweet readers!!! @vintagemichelle91 and I are blown away by your response to this latest installment of our series!!! Your ever-insightful comments are making our days and nights, and we cannot thank you enough!!! Time to check in with Natalia and a few unexpected visitors. Read on for more and enjoy!!!
Having just put the twins down for their nap, Natalia turned her attention to a project that had initially excited her. How hard could it be to crochet a bonnet for her new niece or nephew? Starting the chain, forming an endless row that might be better-suited for a blanket became as easy as putting pen to paper. But to create the first stitch, to braid the loops so the patch would grow into something, anything, left her frustrated. No matter how many guides she read or how-to videos she watched, her fingers would not form the proper path. Yielding with the yarn still in hand, she tried to tell herself that it wasn’t an omen, some sign of dire days to come for her sister and the sergeant. After how far they had come, it simply could not end in a tangle of torment. Biting down on her lip, she was ready to take up the task anew when she heard a knock and moved to answer the call.
           “Hello, Mrs. Barba.”
Stunned to see Peter Stone standing on her stoop, Natalia needed a few seconds to process his presence as he placed his hands in his pockets and shuffled his feet.
“Hope I’m not bothering you,” he continued.
“Why would you think that, Mr. Stone?” she inquired. “Because my husband comes home scowling after having to work with you? Or is it the little matter of breaking my sister’s heart?”
           “I deserve that,” Stone admitted.
“And so much more,” Natalia hissed.
“No argument. I just… may I speak with you?”
Reluctantly, Natalia stepped aside to usher the other ADA inside. Stone stepped slowly, looking unsure of where to sit when Natalia cleared the yarn from the sofa.
           “You knit?” he asked.
“Crochet,” Natalia corrected him. “It’s something for Maggie’s baby.”
           “That’s sweet,” Stone said, sadly.
“Thank you. Of course, I’m still learning. I haven’t promised anything that I can’t follow through on. But then, you wouldn’t know anything about that.”
He stayed silent, waiting, until Natalia assumed another seat in the room. Stone’s shoulders slumped, and Natalia tapped her toes on the floor with her arms firmly crossed over her chest.
“You must think I’m an asshole,” he said softy.
“I wouldn’t say that,” Natalia replied.
“You wouldn’t?” he asked, his tone somewhat hopeful.
“I would call you the asshole,” Natalia shot back. Her voice was thick, and Stone simply sighed.
“Seeing Maggie again… after all this time… it was a shock.”
“Am I supposed to feel sorry for you?” Natalia asked.
“No, no,” Stone insisted. “I… please. I thought… I mean it’s not as if Maggie will talk to me.”
“Mr. Stone, if you ever cared for her, you---”
“Mrs. Barba, I loved her. I… I’ve never loved anyone else in the same way.”
“So much that you abandoned her?” Natalia said, not willing to give him even an inch. “Do you know what her life was before she met Mike?”
“Your husband alluded to some of it.”
“I’ll tell you flat out,” Natalia interjected. “Her mother got her hooks back into her. Arranged for her to dance, sure. But she was abused by the man who ran the troupe. She developed a drug problem. Need I go on?”
“No,” Stone said, his voice even softer as he ran one hand over his face. I hate hearing this. Knowing this.”
“How do you think it was for Maggie living it?” Natalia asked.
“Awful,” he said. “And if I had known… Mrs. Barba, I swear to you I would have sought her out.”
“Why?” Natalia asked, just leaning forward in her chair. “To check in and leave her all over again?”
“No!” Stone said, yelled. Natalia raised an eyebrow and nearly stood, preparing to send him back the way he came when he waved one hand in the air.
“Wait,” he said. “I’m sorry. Please. I don’t want to upset Maggie. I can’t talk to your husband.”
“Don’t you have a friend or some family to confide in?” she asked.
“Not in the city,” he somberly confessed. “I mean there’s my… but no. Not really.”
Natalia wanted to take the words back. Angry as she was, she hated the feel, the sound of her low blow, and she sank back into her seat.
“What do you need to tell me, Mr. Stone?” she said. He took a few seconds to gather his thoughts before meeting her eyes.
“I was the asshole,” he started. “Meeting Maggie… the months I had with her… do you know what it’s like to feel like you’re living underwater with all that fuzzy sound? And then you can finally hear every song in the world?”
“I know that feeling all too well,” Natalia said, looking at the golden band on her finger. “I also know… look.”
He waited without so much as blinking until Natalia continued.
“When Rafael and I were first together… something happened. And… and I pushed him away. It’s complicated. But I was scared. Was that what happened to you?”
Not that she wanted to hear that he had suffered some horrible fate, but on some level in would make a kind of sense. She held onto that dark possibility until Stone answered.
           “No,” he said.
“No?” she echoed. “Then what? Why in the world would you leave her?”
“Because I didn’t know who the hell I was or where I was even going back then,” Stone admitted. “Some days, I barely know now. Was I a ballplayer? Was I going to follow in my father’s footsteps? Maybe I would never amount to anything. And she… Maggie deserved so much more than me.”
“You couldn’t just talk to her about that?” Natalia asked, a small part of her understanding where he was coming from but still…
“Then maybe I was scared,” he said. “Or immature. Or just… but I thought it was a way to do right by her. And when I finally knew who I was… it wasn’t like we could just pick up where we left off.”
“No,” Natalia agreed, her rage cooling when she saw him struggling, and she stood slowly to sit at his side. “Mr. Stone… Peter?”
           “Yes?” he hopefully asked.
“This is where we all are now,” she said. “If you still care about Maggie---”
“Of course I do,” he cut in.
“Then please keep your distance,” Natalia said. “Don’t spoil everything that she has.”
“I can’t just leave altogether,” he said. “I made a promise to Jack McCoy. I have my father’s estate to sort out. Other obligations.”
“But you know what I mean,” Natalia gently warned.
She watched her words sink in, wondering if he was going to argue that he couldn’t do that, that simply seeing her sister again had stoked some fire in his soul. He looked as if he was about to answer when there was the sound of a key in the door.
“Natty! I used my spare. I know I’ve been kind of out of touch, but I need to---”
Maggie’s speech came to a halt, and she placed one hand over her mouth the second she caught sight of Peter Stone.
“What… why is he here?” Maggie managed. “Who the hell told him he could come here?”
“He’s dropping something off for Rafael,” Natalia lied as she felt Stone tense next to her.
“Someone he sees everyday who can’t stand him?” Maggie asked. “A likely story.”
“You’re right,” Stone swore, suddenly on his feet. “This is all on me, Maggie. I… I needed to talk to your sister.”
“But not to me?” Maggie demanded. “And why is that, Peter? Still can’t bear to be in the same room with me?”
           “I never said---”
“You didn’t have to,” Maggie said, charging forward and pushing her palm into his chest. “Your actions did the heavy lifting.”
“Would you have even wanted to---?”
“That’s not the point,” Maggie cried out. “But I don’t want to see you now, and if my sister let you in it’s only because she’s a hell of a lot nicer than I---”
“Will you both stop!” Natalia begged, raising her voice to the point where it carried up the staircase. Hearing Hazel’s cry from the nursery mingling with Holly’s, Natalia’s eyes darted between the pair before settling on her sister.
           “Are you alright?” she asked.
           “Peachy,” Maggie said.
“Then let me check on the twins. And.. just talk to him for a moment, Maggie.”
           “Why?”
“Because you need to hash this out.” For several seconds, there were no sounds other than the twins’ faint cries. Finally, Maggie nodded.
“Good,” Natalia said. “I’ll be right back.”
She was almost at the foot of the stairs when she looked back to Stone.
“Here’s your chance to fix what you can. Make the most of it.”
And with that, she left them alone.
Maggie turned her back on Peter, heading for the French doors and stepping onto the balcony. Finding it hard to breathe despite the fresh air, she felt Peter follow and froze when he stood at her side.
“How are you feeling?” he asked.
“How do you think?” she spat, avoiding his eyes.
“Maggie, I… if I had known you were in Manhattan… that taking this job would bring me so close to you, I---”
“Would have cut and run,” she said. “That’s what you’re good at.”
“I would have stayed away because the last thing I want is to hurt you.”
Now she glared at him, and Peter’s face reddened.  .
“Again,” he continued. “I know I did far worse already. Just now starting to understand the half of it.”
“So you’ve heard Poor Little Maggie’s tale of woe,” she scoffed, picking at her nails and wishing he would vanish into thin air. She didn’t want him hurt in any way. That much she could never desire. She only wanted him gone.
           Didn’t she?
           “Maggie?”
She felt Peter’s warm breath trickle from his lips to waft through a few locks of her fallen hair. Tears pooled in her eyes, and she wondered why she was here, why she didn’t just take off and talk to Natalia later when Peter reached for her hand.
“Don’t,” she said in a weak voice.
“Please,” he said. “Maggie, I was an idiot. An asshole.”
           “How astute of you.”
“Actually, that was your sister’s observation.”
“Natty?” Maggie asked in disbelief. “Wow, you got on her bad side real fast.”
“She’s seems pretty protective,” he agreed.
“She is,” Maggie agreed. “So is my husband.”
“Maggie, I get it,” Stone sighed. “You have everything I ever wanted for you.”
           “Ever wanted for---”
           “The truth?” he asked.
           “And what even is that?”
He said nothing until she fixed her stare on his mint green gaze.
“I wasn’t good enough for you,” he said. “I should have told you that. But I knew… I was pretty sure you’d fight me on it.”
His words hit her heart like a charge of electricity, causing her to shiver. Instinctively, she gripped his hand tighter. Was it to keep from falling? Or losing him again?
“What clued you in?” she asked, barely able to keep her tears at bay. “My proposal?”
“Big part of it,” he said. “Look, I’m not making excuses. I can’t turn back the clock.”
The feel of his hand in hers recalled so many nights pressed close to his side, mornings where their bodies lingered under soft sheets. Even without looking, she still knew every line of his palm, where they stopped and started.
“I don’t want you to,” she said, her voice just above a whisper.
“I get that,” he said. “You’re happy now. And I’m not here to take that away from you. But just know this. Maggie?”
With his free hand, he cradled her chin and smiled.
“Just because I was a coward doesn’t mean that I didn’t love you. It’s not much. But it... that’s the truth.”
Holding his hand, wanting to ask him so many more questions, she forced herself to flee from his grasp and clutched the railing.
“Please, Peter,” she said. “I can’t do this. Please just go.”
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw him look as if he wanted to object. Somehow, he seemed to dial the impulse back and bowed his head.
“Least I can do,” he said. She watched him start to leave, and he was almost at the French doors when he looked back to her once more.
           “What?” she asked.
“All this time… and I know it’s my fault… but God this feels even harder… leaving you a second time around.”
Maggie stayed in his eyes for a few moments more, unable to move. Only when she heard the front door open and close softly did she sink to the nearest chair, holding her head in her hands.
          “Maggie? Oh, honey.”
Natalia said nothing else, and Maggie fell into her sister’s warm arms, returning her hug and clasping her close.
“I’m sorry,” Natalia said. “Maybe I shouldn’t have---”
“It’s not you,” Maggie whimpered. “It… he told me why it all fell apart.”
“I know,” Natalia soothed. “That’s a lot to lay at your feet.”
“Yeah,” Maggie admitted, sniffling and lifting her head to wipe the tears away. “But it’s not the real problem.”
           “It’s not?” Natalia asked.
“No. Not like I came here expecting any of this.”
“Why then?” Natalia asked, rubbing her sister’s arm and waiting.
“I… ever since I saw him again… Natty, I can’t get him out of my mind.”
Natalia’s eyes grew wide, and Maggie looked to the clouds passing by overhead.
“I know,” she moaned. “And it doesn’t mean I don’t love Mike or love him any less. But I can’t… and now it’s worse.”
           “Why worse?” Natalia asked.
“Because now I know why,” Maggie said. “It’s not because Peter didn’t love me. Should I have fought harder for him? Might it all have been---?”
“You can’t think like that, Maggie,” Natalia said. “The moment’s passed.”
           “Right.”
“And all this stress is not good for you or the baby.”
           “Natty, please! I’m trying to sort all this out. I don’t need… I don’t need you…”
Her voice hitched and as she broke down again, Natalia held her, smoothing her hands up and down her back. She whispered sweet words, and Maggie let her tears spill until they were spent. Exhausted, she finally lifted her head from Natalia’s shoulder.
           “Better?” Natalia asked.
           “Yeah,” Maggie said. “I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be,” Natalia said. “Let’s get you inside. I’ll make some tea.”
Nodding, Maggie let her sister walk her a few steps when she stopped and gripped Natalia’s arms.
           “Don’t tell Rafael about this.”
“What?” Natalia asked, looking stunned. “Why?”
“Because Mike already senses something’s really off between him and Peter and this will just push it over the edge and I don’t want Mike to know and I can’t take the chance that Rafael might say something and---”
“Maggie, you’re not making any sense.”
“Just please, Natty?” Maggie begged. “I can’t have to worry about this, too!”
Her breaths came more rapidly, and Natalia hurried her inside to sit her down. She held her sister’s hand and urged Maggie to inhale deeply and exhale loudly. Only when Maggie felt as if she was no longer drowning was she able to completely focus on her sister.
“Please, Natty,” Maggie said. “I know it’s a lot to ask.”
“I don’t want to keep things from my husband.”
“I know,” Maggie said sadly, resigned to Rafael knowing the truth before the day was out when Natalia hugged her again with a sigh.
“But for you, Maggie, I will.”

Natty what's your favorite thing to do with the others? Aside from practice together on the court and bother them, that is. Any bonding activities?
Nathaniel: Aside from playing exy and bothering them? There are other things people do? Okay, okay… I know… Hah… Bonding activities. You wouldn’t believe me if I told you. But okay. I’ll tell you. Let’s see.
Nathaniel: Riko, he’s bad at math. Sounds weird right? He studies it because it’s useful, y’know? Like, if he ever got the chance to inherit the Moriyama Empire, it’d be a good skill. But he’s awful. So it’s nice to be the useful one, for once. And it gives me a chance to help him. Getting the upper hand on Riko is nice. But I call it a bonding activity because, well, it shows me a different side of him! He’s nicer when he knows I could give him the wrong answer and he wouldn’t be any the wiser. I did that once. He was never a dick again.Riko: Wow, Nathaniel. Reveal all my secrets.Nathaniel: Like how you get Kevin or I to tie your shoes?Riko: … I’ll see you at practice.
Nathaniel: Kevin. Now Kev is a nerd! But it’s okay. I suppose people would consider me one too. I like to talk to Kevin about History when he’s being tolerable and not a know-it-all little bitch. But still… He knows a lot about ancient history. And I suppose the Roman Empire is interesting the first five times you hear about it?
Nathaniel: Now Jean is my favourite to spend time with. Jean’s lovely. Amazing. Kind. He’s the best. He has the weirdest hobbies though. Like… You probably wouldn’t even think of associating his hobbies with him! Jean likes to knit and crochet. I read the pattern for him. He says it reminds him of his mum, and it also lets him make things for himself, but also to send home as gifts to his family. Even though they sold him, he loves them. Talks about them a lot. He doesn’t know if the gifts even get sent, let alone if they would keep them if they get there. But I think it gives him peace of mind to know that - at least he thinks of them. Personally, I don’t get it, but I never really liked my parents.
Nathaniel: There’s talk of recruiting the fifth of us. I don’t know what’s happening yet. I suppose Kevin will let me know when - if - Riko gives him the green light. Who knows. Could be interesting.

Perspective & Advice for Those Facing Insurmountable Odds
Throughout our journey with Voyage, the one thing we have learned over and over is that hidden within every challenge is a blessing or opportunity. It’s up to us to determine whether a challenge we face will be a step back or the catalyst for a step forward.
We had the honor of connecting with some of the city’s brightest female leaders and role models and we asked them our question of the month: What is the best advice you have for someone who feels like they are facing insurmountable odds.
Below, you’ll find their advice and links and other info so you can learn more about them, their work and how to connect with them. We’ll be interviewing many of these amazing women in the coming weeks, stay tuned.
Brandis Hill | Floral Designer
Facing a challenge can feel like you are in a forest full of trees.  Instead of looking at the forest, look at the tree in front of you and chop it down.  Focus on what is in front of you and put your energy into completing that task.  Then move on to the next.

Keep fighting. Seek help from the ones you love. Lean into Jesus because he is our strength. Get a community around you who loves and supports you in everything you do. Remember that nothing is too big for Jesus and if you completely trust him he will get you through anything. Remember that in the grand scheme of things this situation will not be as big as it is right now in the moment.

Being a teen mom and single parent came with a lot of challenges and uphill battles, some of which made me feel as if they were insurmountable, however they were not. I realized once I changed my outlook by deciding to trust God there was nothing that I couldn’t accomplish or overcome. My advice to anyone who feels like they are dealing with something is to Have a thankful heart, focus on the great and amazing things in your life and remember a positive mindset is also a pivotal key to being able to make it through seemingly unbearable situations. When I am faced with hurdles I make sure I am surrounded by people who build me up and push me to be the best version of myself. Sometimes you just need that reminder of how amazing you are, because trust me when I say: YOU ARE PHENOMENAL!!!

Kat Watson | Owner and Instructor | FIT4MOM Dallas/Park Cities
The best advice that I have is to face the challenge head on and to determine what opportunity it presents for growth. I choose to see challenges as learning opportunities and do my best to find the good every situation. I also believe in the power of surrounding myself with people who bring strength, light, and wisdom so that I have a solid support system in place.

Take a moment to write down a list of every “hard” thing that you have faced. Then take a look at that list and now write down how you survived those hard things. Every time you face a challenge take a look at your new list as a reminder that you have survived all of your worst days thus far. Enter into this new challenge with a spirit of gratitude because while you may not know how everything will turn out, you already know that things will work out. And if you dare….give that challenge to God and trust him to do a good work in you even through your hardship. He won’t ever disappoint.

Tiffany Shannel | Lifestyle & Beauty Blogger & Nurse
The best advice that I can give anyone facing a challenge they feel is insurmountable is troubles don’t last always. Although you may feel that life is not going to get better, you’re sad about your situation it will get better. Just believe that things will get better, do the work to change the situation. Change doesn’t happen without work,  I believe in the power of manifestation and having faith that things will change. Believe in your future self.

Kaylyn Michelle | lifestyle |  health | wellness, etc
The best advice I can give from my experience in life of only just 25 years is you have to love yourself and not just love your appearance or your body. You have to be in love with yourself and treat yourself well, give yourself that credit and believe in yourself. Without this you can not love anyone or anything else. You can’t be there 100% for others and be emotionally available to help others or care about others if you aren’t in it for yourself. I’ve been through many life tribulations so far but in the end I can only do for myself and the rest will follow. It isn’t being selfish and most people need to know that loving yourself and putting yourself first is not selfish it’s necessary. If they feel trapped or like they are in something that is insurmountable then they have to find out what they can do for themselves to help grow or pass this time in life.

I’m the type of person who thinks nothing is impossible, you just might be taking too big of a bite. I’ve taught elementary school for 5 years and we use two techniques called “chunking” and “scaffolding” to teach difficult concepts to kids. “Chunking” is breaking down a task into as many small parts as possible. “Scaffolding” is starting with the things you already know and building your knowledge from there. You can actually use these on yourself! With any challenge that seems overwhelming, I “chunk” it by listing out every single thing I’ll need to do to reach that goal. When all the tasks are out of your brain and on paper, it’s easier to arrange them into a manageable order. Then I will “scaffold” by starting with a chunk that I already know how to do quickly and automatically. Just like with children, accomplishing one easy chunk gives you the confidence to move onto the next task. Give yourself the kind of a grace a patient teacher gives her students. You are learning and growing. Break it up, start small. One bite at a time.

Rose Moore | Hairstylist | Owner & Roller Derby Jammer
My best advice? I’d tell them, “I don’t believe in such a thing.” Someone out there has most likely already done it. So there’s proof that you can do it too. Is it man-made? Then make it. If you believe it, you can achieve it. It’s really that simple. What you believe becomes your reality. And you don’t let anyone else try to tell you what is real and what isn’t. If I listened to the “advice” of others, I would have never become a Hairstylist. I would have never owned my own business. I would have never raised 2 girls on my own. I would have never played roller derby for 8 years and competed nationally. I would never have bought my first house this year. Life is one challenge after another. It gets hard, really hard. And you will face walls that have you up at night crying and starving and defeated. But you have to just keep trying and learning and keep adding tools to your toolbox. Then one day you have that epiphany and realize you know exactly what to do. Your body is so, so strong and your mind is even stronger and you will achieve and overcome any challenges you face.

Patricia Mizell | Full Time Mom and Instagram Influencer
Life is a simple equation of cause and effect. If you think you CAN’T overcome a challenge then you won’t. If you think you CAN overcome a challenge then you will. In truth, you are the problem and the solution. You need to conquer your fear because that is the real root of the issue. The only one that can hold you back is you. Once you free yourself from self doubt you will be limitless. Be the boss of your life and take charge. I guarantee you will be the best boss you have ever had!

Growth isn’t supposed to be comfortable, no matter what you’re going through, learn and grow from it. Turn to God, let him carry you through any difficulties you encounter. “Life with God is not immunity from difficulties, but peace in difficulties” C.S. Lewis

Pray and and never stop being consistent. Pray for your own strength to continue to believe in yourself and pray that whatever negativity comes your way that you oversee and turn into motivation. Also continue to perfect your craft even when things get hard.  Last but not least, anything is possible, never let anyone tell you that you can’t achieve yours goals.

I think most importantly, be kind to yourself. Treat yourself like you would a friend going through the same thing. Be positive, encouraging, supportive, and know that the only thing you can control is you.

When I’m faced with an obstacle that feels insurmountable the most useful tool I’ve found is to see myself as having already conquered the problem. When you convince yourself ‘You Can’ it gives you the confidence to pursue your goals with passion and when you are passionate about something…not even the sky can limit you!

Take it one step at a time, baby steps. We all have challenges we believe are insurmountable, happens to every single person on earth to one degree or another. I have had the breath knocked out of me by a major life challenge, and despite a beautiful education, had zero experience or notion as to how to surmount or where to even start. That’s where writing comes in — and fortunately, I am a writer. Write out your honest feelings and fears. Make a list of the challenge(s). What experts can you seek (books, articles, professionals) for advice on how to best handle? (In our case, it was a family suicide.) Research the challenge and any solutions, get advice. Make a recovery/re-take your life plan. Understand it may take longer than you’d like (I am a bit impatient, wanting everything to be great NOW) but take the first step even if you are NUMB. Fake it till you make it, psychologists say. Do your best, stop, reflect, rest and take the next. Continue until you have overcome the challenge, it has disappeared, or become marginalized. Voila: you did it!

My best advice for someone is facing a challenge would be to take it one day at a time. Things take time, so just be patient and know it’ll work out in the end. It also helps to surround yourself with other positive individuals whether that is friends, family, or your faith!

Humans were never meant to do this life alone! If you’re facing an overwhelming challenge, find those people in your circle that will empathize with you, encourage you, and fight for you. Having a community that will help carry your burden will make the insurmountable seem more surmountable.

Take a deep breathe and chill out. Some things just take time and a bit of elbow grease to accomplish. Do the things you can, put to the side the things you can’t, and always focus your energy on a solution rather than the problem. Once you can shift that focus to what you want rather than how you get it, you’d be surprised how many situations seem to solve themselves.
@bluejameson
Alexandria Norado | Photographer | Interviewer | Digital Media Specialist
My advice to anyone facing a challenge that they feel they cannot overcome is to remember they are not alone. Everyone has faced a challenge in their life in some form — whether they’ve shown it publicly or kept it to themselves. Pursue what you think you’re incapable of and you’ll find yourself feeling more empowered either by overcoming the obstacle — or by creating a new sense of determination within yourself. You can choose how you’re defined, so use that to your advantage and make the best out of the situation.

We all have more capabilities than we’re living up to because we all have more God Given potential than we’d ever recognize on our own. Remember that and the 4 C’s of Success. No one ever goes confidently in to a challenge they feel is insurmountable. First, they have to commit to it. Second, they have to have courage to stay committed to it over & over again. Then, they have to add capacities in the form of knowledge, tools, help, etc.. Lastly, they develop confidence. Everyone is hesitant at first but once you have confidence, it doesn’t feel so insurmountable, does it?

Alix Barth | Nutritionist
@misfitbrands @studioatmisfit
A situation being “insurmountable” is only insurmountable because of the language we tell ourselves. Whatever the situation is, we have to focus on the things that we can and will do to change the circumstances versus focusing on what we don’t want or feel we can’t do – we have to get rid of the I can’t’s, I will never’s, etc. Re-framing your language with affirming words such as, “I can” or “I will do” allow you to create a mental and physical template to overcome the “insurmountable” situation you’re facing. Also understanding that it’s not going to be easy and that struggle is part of the process. But in that struggle lies growth. And that is where the magic happens!

We are so pleased to introduce to you Knut the Knitter. PART 1 In the beginning…..Knut started his adult life as a bloodthirsty psychopath. Captain of the Longboat, The Pearl, filled with unwashed viking marauders with a voracious appetite for mayhem. The Pearl plied the turbulent waters of the North Sea on raiding missions between it’s home port of Stavanger and the jagged granite coastline of Scotland. During his encounters with the locals, Knut was often overheard commenting on how well his victims were attired before running his trusty blodöx (axe) through their natty argyle vests. A downside of this was that the vests were rendered bloody and torn, thus unsuitable for him to wear. . . . . . . . . #knitting #knittersofinstagram #handmade #knit #knittinglove #knittingaddict #crochet #knitstagram #instaknit #yarn #stricken #knittersoftheworld #knittersofig #etsy #etsyseller #handmade #etsyfinds #etsystore #etsysellersofinstagram #etsygifts #shopsmall #shopetsy #knuttheviking #knut #seawallfibres #knitalong #tricot #garn #strikkedilla #strikke
