𝓥𝓸𝓰𝓾𝓮𝓼𝓺𝓾𝓮.... ....this article published in Vogue many moons ago especially when it comes to fashion which should be about current trends and if we are very lucky - style. I wrote about (then) upcoming designer, Gareth Pugh and this feature was published not in British but in Greek Vogue because it wasn't very trendy at the time to support local talent, educated at local schools. Every British lifestyle publication didn't find this subject 'relevant enough' least of all 'voguesque'. A decade or so later and a considerable phase of 'supporting young talents' that special branch of Vogue (Vogue Talents) has ceased to exist and I find myself devoid of a worthy subject. Who shall I write about and 'discover' these days? Which young designer even cares to be mentioned in Vogue anymore? Who reads big titles anyway? Or shall I do what my other colleagues are doing and start celebrating influencers and popstars-turn-designers? Why do we even educate designers any more? What I find even more puzzling is that the majority of graduates dream of designing for a big, luxury brand ( that only a small percentage of people can afford to wear anyway) instead of working on creating their own label. It seems to me that the entire industry caters for that 1% of super-rich consumers which to me is not fashion anymore but something very elitist. And last but not least, 90% of 'upcoming talents' that I have written about in the past 20 years do not work in fashion anymore. hi, i’m lucy from stray kids! i’m here with vogue korea today to show you guys my bag and everything inside it!

i should probably say that a lot of these things change depending on where i go or what i do on a particular day. like when i go grocery shopping, i’ll likely just bring my phone, keys and some reusable bags. but for schedules, i’ll pack more depending on how long i’ll be out. for this video, i’ll be covering what i usually take with me to long work days/as travel carry-on, since it’s when the boys say i become mary poppins and stuff a whole lot of— what i believe are— essentials into my bag!

BACKPACK & ORGANISERS !

so, this is my backpack! isn’t it so pretty? i’ve used it everyday since 2018, but it looks almost brand-new, right? i know these kind of bags are trendy but they’re really well-made as well. mine is in the biggest size, it’s got this laptop compartment in the back and padded straps! which is super neat since they don’t cut into your shoulders. also, bonus: backpacks don’t destroy your back, hence the name!

when i was a trainee, i would always use duffel bags and totes but honestly, it was never worth the fashion statement— because when every muscle in your body hurts at the end of the day, they become almost impossible to lift.

this particular backpack is also really special because some of our oldest stay— our fans, hand stitched and embroidered this bag as a fundraiser for one girl: a charity organisation that supports education for girls in sierra leone and uganda. i always feel so proud when our fans do something like this because helping people in need, to me, is always worth so much more.

we’ve got tiny flowers, leaves, sunflowers and bees! we also have all three totoros walking along here, and my name in hangul (강소연, kang soyeon) on the outside pocket.

something i would change? maybe, the colour? don’t get me wrong, when i first saw it was grey— because it was a surprise (at a fan meet)— i was so happy because i knew it’d match anything i wear and be very easy to keep clean. but if the brand ever released new colours in this size, i think pink would be really cute!

anyway, shall we carry on?

opening up this bad boy is always super fun because the zips go down all the way! it makes it really easy to pack because it becomes more like a suitcase. and if we move some of my stuff— i also bought an extra organiser for more pockets on the inside.

depending on if i have practice or maybe a really long flight with heaps of stopovers, this backpack is also big enough to fill the remaining space with a small blanket or clean clothes and shoes! i mean, it’s not bam bam size— *laughs* i feel so silly going after him— but it’s still a monster to me, okay!

i also like using drawstring bags/pouches to organise my stuff— my imo, who took care of me in australia, always told me that having a space for everything in your bag not only keeps it clean/makes it easier to find stuff, but also helps you pack a lot more too!

PHONES !

starting with the outside pocket, this is where i keep all the stuff that i need to access quickly. feel like that’s obvious, but anyway— if i’m unfortunate enough to not have pockets for whatever reason, this is usually where my phones go. and yup, i have two! one personal and one for work.

this is the first phone: it’s in the lilac colour, which is super pretty! it’s also the reason i like using clear, bulky, protective cases— not because i actually drop it very often, but i feel like any one of these days i might and i’ll destroy its beauty. oh, and clear cases are cute because i like putting polaroids in there— here’s mine of my friends, ryujin and chaeryeong! they even signed it for me, so you know it’s limited edition!

now, you might think this is silly— but my second phone, also lavender, is an android. the most logical reason i have for this is because when i had two apple phones, my airpods would keep swapping connections. BUT the main reason is honestly because i just wanted a phone that folds. i mean come on, my first ever phone was a motorola, and this is just— it’s cool, right? (at laughing staff) see, it’s cool! the only member in stray kids that doesn’t use apple at all is changbin, so he’s happy that i’ve at least compromised with this.

i primarily use my iphone to take photos, watch videos/streams, talk to close friends or family as well as write, read, play games and listen to music. the main difference between the two is that i don’t have any social media on here, except youtube, if that counts. all of my other sns are on my samsung, so that when i get tired of scrolling— i just fold this up and toss it in the bin— i’m just kidding. but yeah, i like being able to isolate myself because it can all get a little loud from time to time.

AIRPODS & KEYS !

i like to keep my airpods and keys attached to each other that way i don’t lose either of them! i think i’ve had this pair since i first bought them, which i think— *checks manufacturing date*— was 2019. damn, these are old! and they still work perfectly, which is nice. and this case lets me loop the keys for my rental car, my dorm, my aunt’s house; because it’s important i scare the living daylights out her whenever possible— and company rooms that don’t use keycards.

MULTITOOL !

this will probably get cut out, but i also have a multitool. my older brother got it for me as a present when i was back in australia for my twenty-first birthday. it’s pretty awesome! i mostly use it for the bottle/can opener when my nails are done and can’t open anything. also put this on it. *blows whistle attached* (you know what it’s for)

CARD & PASSPORT HOLDER !

i had a wallet, but ever since i started using my phone to pay for everything— i very rarely use cash at all. of course, i do try to have a few notes just in case, but i thought i’d be better to use one of these instead— to keep my passport, id, memberships and all that good stuff safe in one place. i also hate carrying coins anyway, so i usually tip or donate to the boys. *laughs*

IPAD, ACCESSORIES & DRUMSTICKS !

let’s quickly look at the pocket in the back: because here’s where i keep my ipad as well as its pen, keyboard and mouse. i don’t like laptops because they’re usually too heavy to carry and macbooks confuse me because i use a pc. so, this adorable thing is what i use to write lyrics, record and very roughly edit snippets of tracks. i again, also use it to watch videos, mostly netflix— especially on long trips— and journal. i love to handwrite when i can, but i think i’m much faster at typing. i’m not much of an illustrator, but hyunjin loves to leave a lot of drawings for me: i’ll show you one! and sometimes, when i’m feeling cheeky— i might play a little genshin on it. i also keep my drumsticks in this pocket because i use them just as often to practice or spin for fun.

NINTENDO SWITCH & DS !

now, onto the main pocket!

the most eye catching thing in this bag right now is probably my switch! i finally got one for myself when this version was released because i just couldn’t resist. i’ve been playing animal crossing since i was six years old and it’s always been such a nostalgic game for me. it really helps me relax from work and other games that get my gears going. and i do play it with somi! we like to visit each other’s islands and trade clothes or furniture. but i also like to play mario kart and super smash bros on here— chan bought his switch when it first came out, so now all nine members can play online together as well.

i also have this purple 2DS, which is not only a total throwback but limited edition! i mostly use this to play old pokémon games and cooking mama.

i like to have these games on long travel trips because sometimes we can’t connect to wi-fi and i can have a hard time falling asleep on the plane or in the car.

PORTABLE CHARGER & SPEAKER !

and as much as i love all of my gadgets, what’s arguably just as important is this beast! 60000mAh, this power bank can last me about a week if i don’t use it to charge everything at the same time. i got this as a gift from jisungie actually— as you can see from the han quokka and jelibear stickers. very cute.

and this speaker i also got as a gift from jeongin! it’s always nice to have music playing when we’re out on picnics or in waiting rooms. i actually use it most when i’m in the shower. despite being small, it can be very loud— just like some people i know... anyway thank you guys!

SNACKS, SAUCE & VITAMINS !

so, in this pink bag— are all my edible items— or as like the kids like to call, my snack pack. felix, chan and i also like to make fun of it because it reminds us of primary school in australia. pretty much every kid had one of these. i love it though because it can keep things cool or warm and from getting squished! and i’ve got a lot of stuff in here—

like my favourite gum, mints and teabags. i love this brand of tea because it’s made in melbourne, my home city. i get my brothers to send me this flavour— my favourite— whenever they can. how i like my tea? with a quarter milk and two sugars.

so, the menu changes pretty much everyday— but today i’ve brought 떡볶이 (tteokbokki), buldak carbo hot chicken flavour! this type are a little less intense with the spice, which is why i like it a lot. i also keep my juice boxes in here— mango and pineapple. they’re the best. i also have some pepero, cheetos: flaming hot snd smokey barbecue, sunflower chocoball, yogurt almonds and a couple sticks of sausage.

and in this yellow pouch, are my vitamins. B, C, D, iron and magnesium; all of these are pills you have to take with water, but i also recently got these apple cider vinegar gummies— and honestly, they taste really good! everyone says they help a lot with digestion as well as hair and skin.

oh, and sauce packets. *laughs* okay, i gotta explain this one: there’s nothing i hate more than when i order food or go to places and there’s no sauce included! it’s why i always try to save leftover packets, but also change it up as often as i can so they don’t get stuck in here. got some regular ketchup this time— because i guess you just can’t go wrong with it.

COSMETICS, JEWELLERY & GUITAR PICKS !

where i keep my beauty items!

firstly, i’ve got my favourite perfumes since i was a teenager: black musk and lord of misrule. i really love these kinds of gender neutral smells— it’s like spicy vanilla? they’re the perfect amount of sweet and just make me feel really warm.

next, i have this tub of paw paw cream: a holy grail product from australia. i use it as a lip balm, but you can also use it for dry cuts, itches, burns and more— it’s just super moisturising and smells really good. all of my friends love it too and usually ask me to order them a bottle when i can. it’s a similar texture to the all purpose cream i use as well, but this one is a lot thicker— so i like using this for my hands, body and sometimes even hair.

usually the only makeup products i carry out with me are gloss/lipstick, brow gel and mascara. i’ve been using this kiss me brand since i was a trainee! i also have this cute travel-sized bottle of micellar water— nothing special, just removes makeup really well.

and last but not least, the most important product of all— sunscreen! spf 50plus! i love that this one doesn’t leave a weird cast or shiny finish.

other stuff i can fit in here include my sunglasses, hair clips, ties and scrunchies— and jewellery, if i ever need to take anything off during practice or performances. i have a lot of my favourite rings and earrings in here, but i only usually have one necklace because i get scared when they get all tangled up. this one’s got my stay ring on it which is of course, very dear to me. and in this tin— aren’t more mints but— my spare guitar picks! i guess because they're pretty too? these stone ones were gifted to me by lia actually, she says they've all got different energies or something— but i mostly like how they feel and how durable they are even at different thicknesses.

MASK, WIPES & HAND SANITISER !

you must’ve been wondering what’s inside this organiser… sadly, it’s all the boring stuff: in this top pocket, i keep some spare masks— i also have my mask chain in here which was gifted to me by stay. i have both baby and alcohol wipes for cleaning my face, hands as well as any gadgets. and of course, hand sanitiser— this one smells like winter apples apparently. it’s nice!

FEMININE & MEDICINAL PRODUCTS !

and this bottom pocket’s got my period stuff; i always like to take extra of both because girls gotta help other girls in need, you know? i have my deodorant in here as well: i like using mens’ because it’s a lot stronger than female scents— this was a tip i got from my coach back when i was a trainee as well. i’ve also got my hairbrush and a spare toothbrush. oh, medicine goes in this pocket too— so painkillers, muscle cream, eyedrops, band-aids, and heat-packs: these by the way, might be the greatest invention ever made. and a stretch band, this is really good for flexibility of getting rid of painful knots.

PENS, UTENSILS & REUSABLE BAGS !

this organiser also has these nooks, so i keep an ink pen just in case i need to write anything down as well as a tide pen, for when i inevitably spill food/drink on myself! they’re also big enough to fit my utensils, so i have my metal straw— boba-sized— chopsticks and spork slotted in here too. i usually bring these around because i break plastic super easily and have a toxic relationship with paper straws. and finally, hooked up on this handle are these four bags that fold up into a neat, little pouch. i reuse these for clothes, shoes, groceries, anything really!

WATER BOTTLE, UMBRELLA & HAT !

i forgot to mention these earlier, but i’ve got my water bottle— one litre, vacuum-sealed and double-insulated, so it can store ice for longer than a day. dope because staying cool and hydrated is very important! i also like to keep my cap strapped to my bag whenever i’m not using it. this one was a gift from yuna, it’s my favourite. and last but not least, i use this outside pocket for holding my umbrella— which i will not be opening inside, but outside on rainy or super sunny days.

this should really sell the deal i’m mary poppins, right?
