anyway, basically hylian courting is a lot shorter, think “lesbians with the uhaul” type of energy, like sort of the classical medieval “does thee wish to pursue marriage with this one?” ← how hylians ask u out for the first time lmao

if it helps, they do tend to get to know one another well, talking about morals/kids/life goals/preferred lifestyle/house/etc. pretty clearly and quickly, then using the in between time to sort of stew on that information

id say the total time is sort of something like 6 months? maybe 3/4 if they're really compatible

(so bc i love interpreting video game logic for real world building, I actually blame this on how fast Zelda/link get together in games despite having sometimes never met before that moment lol)

like i said, ill be posting about this later

pretty basic, just saying we don't really see hylians in big groups, despite the organizations they form, like kingdoms/knights or on a more personal level, towns/families/etc.

(once again, in-game appearances/video game logic translated to real life to draw these conclusions)

like not only are family units pretty small, like nuclear family setup, with like 2 parents and 2 kids, or single parent 1 kid type of situation, but the towns or collections of these families arent very big either

hylians kind of use their government the way it was intended lmao?

like the villages and towns matter more for everyday decisions than the kingdom/royalty, like Zelda would esstientally just be the mayor of Castle Town for those constant decisions,

while occasionally is called on to make decisions like for several towns or like is a natural disaster happens

meanwhile humans are, in comparison, in Way Bigger groups, both on an organization scale, and a personal scale

like u have all these specific branches of government, whereas im sure the population difference doesn't help,

and on a personal level, humans can easily have like multiple parents, lots of siblings, and once u combine that with each parent having family too, and those families like to meet up? All together??

yeah, itd look insane to any hylians (who’s smaller extended family may just make up their own village and that's it)

3. I've touched on this

like the use of spices, syrups, seasonings, etc

but also the complexity of dishes too, like chilling cream and mixing it for awhile to make ice cream, or even just getting ordering a pizza,

that's a lot of processing, like making the dough from flour and other ingredients, to letting it rise, to making the tomato paste, making cheese, then combining those things with any other toppings, all into one dish??

i like to think that hylians have only just started to touch on actual complicated cooking processes (as in BOTW, where they sell flour and salt, so people besides Link/Wild must know what to do with it)

this has the advantage of impressing any hylian with what a “creative genius” you are lol

4. look im just a fan of medieval time periods Links

so i think its funny if the hylians are used to like 4/3 layers and ur over here like, “wym, if i take off my shirt there's nothing underneath?”

one of them gets bold enough to ask, “d-do you not. do you not have undergarments??”

you “just my boxers? like just to cover my di-”

also this makes its easy to seduce people here? LMAO

clothes are def higher quality, after all there's not as many artificial processes or materials interfering,

plus u usually get some sick embroidery on it too!!

5. so like i get it, Link is the main fighter in games

but like, the few times there is a war/army in loz games, there's rlly not a lot of strategy, beyond just finding the enemy and fighting

tho im partial to that hylians/most inhabitants of Hyrule abide by the “lets meet up either literally by inviting each other or just between our territories to fight”

with occasional guerilla warfare (by any means necessary/stealth/ambush attacks/strategy) that's only rlly used either by Demise/Ganon, or by the wilder individuals/races in games

or maybe even the more civilized fighters in an emergency

and so that means by this logic that all of the Chain use kind of wild techniques compared to their race/kingdom lmao

id imagine its not too surprising to also see “every fight is a bar fight if its for my life” from individual travelers, so im sure they're not viewed too crazy (esp when ppl know their the hero that constantly has to deal with guerilla warfare from Ganon)

but its be hilarious to watch the reactions of both the Links realizing they’re in a bigger group that should be using “proper” fighting strategies and seeing the general publics reaction to this absolutely feral, armed to the teeth, trained hylians with their equally wild human lol

LMAO everyone thinks ur the reason they started using the more brutal fighting methods bc ur human, ur a bad influence lol

(humans would use it primarily, esp after we converted to use that method in warfare a couple hundred years ago i think?)

changing course a bit, hylians tend to use weapons (to compensate for difference in strength compared to humans, and since they don't experience/get a lesser version of adrenaline)

while humans tend to equally rely on weapons and our body as a weapon (marital arts/basic self-defense)

6. this is mostly bc the hylians only rlly seem to have the basics of music, books/stories, theater, and art

i have, surprise surprise, another post abt how i think this came to be,

mostly based on how human curiosity is indomitable and insatiable and the endless force that has not yet met its immovable object.

or at least an immovable object they haven't at least poked a little, out of curiosity lol

like we went to space for that reason, we reach the most dangerous corners of our planet (deep underwater/volcanoes) out of sheer curiousity/for the sake of simple knowledge of the thing

so needless to say, curiosity can absolutely drive any field to its limits, including the arts, which is why we can have stained glass, or movies/tv shows, hell, the marvel that is Hatsune Miku lmao

(fully for entertainment, a projection of light and sound, what is essentially magical illusions but u did it hte hard way, to the hylians)

on a different entertainment related note, i don't know if the hylians would be super into sports, or not really at all? mostly bc they have to use their fighting/training against real threats, not the sort of “fake” threats that sports are

but on the other hand i could see people like knights wanting to use their abilities for something other than violence and fighting bc their life or their villages lives depended on it

bet the Links would enjoy it for those reasons especially, what with at least sumo wrestling being a sport or activity for them at some point in history, and practically beg u for any new games to play, or to ref their games, bc whewwww

im sure they could get pretty competitive lol

7. obviously, their mostly influenced by the Japanese language

id almost like to imagine a sort of, if not outright Japanese (like with earlier heroes like Sky) then a sort of English-Japanese hybrid further along the line

sort of like how English has German/Greek/Latin roots and therefore u can see what words or structure comes from where, or even how u can understand a fair amount of basic words when other languages share the same roots (english, pants = spanish, pantalones)

would make for some funny miscommunications

or even better, most hylians liking ur unique accent or the Links love to hear u talk bc of it lol

Surprise ! Anis is back this year ✨ I'll mostly draw him along side his twin, Bunny, but he deserve a brand new character sheet !

To extend a bit the sheet : post khux, Anis ended up in Scala and Caelum. He started a family all the while continuing his path as a wielder and ultimately a wise master. However, fate wasn't so kin and he was given a task in his older years : taking care of a child said to be the bringer of light. We love some mysterious shenanigans here. The kid is Xehanort imo ahah

Anis is mostly a khux oc but I explored his future a bit more since last time ! It's mostly time travelling shenanigans its mostly silly and fun ngl but I love it

Talking about this lady ! Here's Bunny !

Bunny mainly follows the player's story throughout khux. The small BIG difference is that she enters a pod alongside Ephemer and doesn't sacrifice herself. She ends up stranded along side the teenager in the ruin of the once beloved Daybreak town.

As the years tick by, one thing is for sure for the couple : Rebuilding a city is easy but letting go of the past isn't so. Tin tin tiinnnn. We love time travelling silliness in this house so yeah, they are going to time travel for sure. I'm spoiling it lmao but I had to do so much mental gymnastic to make it work

Bunny's was my character in Khux when it was still running. She would have stayed this way if not for the KHOCWEEK !

Without any surprise there, Mikana will also be present again this year ! I just can't leave my first keykid behind.

I won't lie, Mikana's canon story as always been VERY murky in my head. I'm not quite sure of a lot of the element ngl. Soooo, she is a child who grew up in a costal town along side her parents, Bunny and Ephemer, and her older Sister Sakore told you there was tile travel shenanigans. The rest is a work in progress ahah I have ideas but for now it's a melting pot of uncertainty.

Pêche's also back ! So happy to draw them again this year !

My dear Peche ! Ah, their story is a hell of ride the ones who read it last year know it well. To put it simply, Pêche was named Piry before. She was the adopted daughter of Eraqus and Xehanort before Aqua and Terra were born.

As years went by, Xehanort became more and more overtaken by darkness and she was given the Ventus/Vanitas treatment by Xehanort before the boys. Except... it wasn't a great success. The part weren't really as clearly Light/Darkness and we're ultimately a failure. So to try to make it better and on the off chance they could still summon the Xblade. Again, it somehow worked but was on all other aspects a complete failure.

From all those heart experiment, all that was left was a apathetic yet competent fighter who is known as Peche. A very cold and of little word person who seems to know more than they let on.

Unfortunately Tumblr doesn't let me show any more of my kids for this year in this post so I'll do a second part to show them off right away ! I hope the new more info driven sheets are readable ahah I'm a novice in design

So that is my (affectionately named) Big Honkin ASOIAF Extended Universe AU that has existed in various states for...I don't even know how long (& originally had a different name until I pulled this one from song lyrics bc it fits very well). It kind of started off with me getting way too invested in OCs (& their lore) I made for way back in the day when I was into the Tumblr rp community, & then I was just "this is fun, let me make more & also plan character arcs & stuff bc I work better when I control all the elements anway!" It's mostly a pile of lore & characters I know exist who have varying levels of fleshed out arc. I kind of need to reread with the same mindset I'm approaching my HOTD rewatch with...but that is daunting so I am continuing to put it off 😅 (for whatever reason, it is less daunting than making even bigger, ridiculously interconnected family trees than GRRM does...but I think that speaks to my flavor of neurodivergence lmao)

I posted sigils for the (far too many) OC Houses & some art (that is old now) that I don't feel like looking for, & I think that's probably the only public stuff I have for this atm. There may still be a drabble or 2 floating around in the depths of my blog. But there's been many revisions since any writing I still have up. It's basic concept is "I have added more elements to the main series. How does this change everything?" Of the numerous characters I have added my favorites include "saddest, wettest teen girl," "saddest, most delusional teen girl," "gay knight & his thotty boyfriend he doesn't realize is his boyfriend," "Cersei's least favorite cousin & her 2 best friends, " & "Baratheon Bros. most pretentious cousin"

see my thing is that I've been fairly deep in the ML, DP, and BNHA fandoms

i enjoy the batman cartoon tv shows just fine and the few live action movies i've seen, plus my mutuals who love the DC universe dearly have shared so many cool things about the universe that they love

i hold a very deep affection or respect for all of these fandoms

but the crossovers in general just seem to be "x teen superhero gets adompted by the batfamily because their family/friends/world doesn't love them anymore 🥺🥺🥺" and like,,,, it just looks woobifying and OOC and it's deadass every other POST in the tags nowadays for DP.

i'll admit in terms of BNHA i've seen much more of it on AO3 rather than on Tumblr so it may confuse some of y'all to see it here, but I've seen enough to put it on the list

this is all a very long-winded way of saying DPxDC ABSO-FUCKING-LUTELY DPxDC

to begin with and to make it fair, the miraculous ladybug stuff has also died down more from the rampantness of like 3-6 years ago while the danny phantom stuff (and the BNHA stuff to a lesser degree) is active and well and driving me up the fucking wall

but also like, the miraculous crossovers were mainly just disgruntled ML fans trying to play with new romance tropes, and DC fans seemed to look at them like "well you don't really know what you're talking about, but we're just gonna let you have that corner of the sandbox to yourself and leave you alone". It was annoying, but isolated

DPxDC is a fucking endemic that was corrupt from the beginning as the DC side I've noticed tends to be from a very specific section of the fandom who also has not really read or engaged with any canon source material beyond the one webcomic where they're a big happy family and various uwu found family tiktoks and fanfics and tumblr posts that portray the same tropes. they're already notorious for trying to create their own canon out of completely made up fanon that they've consumed through other fans so they have no idea it's fake, but they're convincing themselves it's real

now it's like, they found DP, which they've ALSO rarely actually watched beyond a few episodes and decided to stick to the tumblr fandom for all their "facts" (which to be fair the actual show is kinda bad lmao but like, they're still missing out on VITAL INFORMATION), and they decided they were gonna like deadass just pick up danny out of the DC fandom (and his sister, they're obsessed with jazz too) and just plop them in the DC universe and act like they belong there, like it's not a crossover, like it's all part of their extended fanon-turned-canon

like, deadass putting in their fic notes that *they have not consumed either source material*, this shit!!!!!

One of my newest additions to my playlist, White (Mix B) is perhaps one of those gleaming gems you don't notice until you peek further within! As a huge French/funky/filter/whadevayawannacalllit house nerd with a crippling Pete Heller's Big Loveaddiction, this track is, honestly pretty darn great. I especially do quite like the guitar loop that's just supremely catchy - oh, and also, the breakdowns are supremely great!

as you all may (or may not) know, I am a huuuuuuuuuuuge sucker for house music from the 90s! this one isn't from the 90s (actually super recent, it came out 4 months ago as of this writing) but holy fuck it sounds-and feels-like a track straight out from the 90s. i love this! it's a little mainstream (I heard it's popular on TikTok, which I don't use) but honestly, it deserves to be. it's great.

i discovered this song while out and about on a trip. this song was too good I had to shazam it immediately LMAO. great job peggy, maybe you can go make more stuff like this (this is because i am a little too obsessed with golden-era house, like, erm, pete heller's big love)

Rabbert Animations is a YouTube channel and Instagram page run by an animator named...you'll never guess: Robert! Rabbert Animations features the adventures and misadventures of the titular character Rabbert and his spider friend Nestor. I especially love this one because it takes a special skill to combine animation and real life so seamlessly.

2. Shout-out to...The Duplex A86

I'm a sucker for road infrastructure! I mean...there's something cool about roads, not gonna lie. Nothing is more cool than the Duplex A86, a two-deck tunnel all packed neatly into one tube. It's also one of the longest tunnels in France, as the tunnel is 10 kilometers long. Since the tunnel consists of one tube split in half, as a result the decks have extremely low vertical clearances (just 2 meters up!) The vertical clearance in this tunnel is so low, in fact that they had to engineer brand new road signs that could be readable but take up the least amount of vertical space.

3. Shout-out to...@al_pansi

Never underestimate phone artists. Especially someone like al pansi, a Twitter digital artist who is known for drawing on an extremely broken phone. Just how broken? I'm talking dead pixels covering at least 20% of the display, cracks all over, and screen discolorations.

Apparently, according to al, their phone turned out this way when al's mom got angry at them for missing the bus and proceeded to throw their phone really hard. Dang.

Also, apparently al does commissions. Absolute insanity. So, if you want to get al out of their phone-induced misery, maybe you can go commission them!

4. Shout-out to...etymologynerd

if you haven't heard of etymologynerd, please PLEASE please give this guy a watch! he makes reels on Instagram detailing his often random and downright bizarre analyses of language and etymology. He has done many bizarre things, including, but not limited to transcribing Minecraft mobs, analyzing keysmashes, and my personal favorite, translating the entire Navy Seals copypasta into his bird whistle language, topped off with him staring intenty at the camera and how it gets even more chaotic from then on

5. And last, shout-out to...popbob, prolific griefer in the oldest anarchy server in Minecraft

One of these people contributing to the immense chaos is Minecraft griefer popbob. Known for backdooring 2B2T twice, using thunder exploits to locate and desecrate bases, popbob is perhaps one of the most prolific griefers, and perhaps one of the most prolific Minecraft players overall.

Oh, and by the way, did you know popbob was trans? Amidst the pandemic in June of 2020, popbob changed her Minecraft skin to one that prominently features the transgender flag, as well as changing her preferred pronouns to she/her. Now that's what I call awesome. We stan a prolific transgender Minecraft griefer.

DaVinci Re-suffering: Dumb Simpleton Attempts To Comprehend Professional Video Editing Software (Updated Daily)

Just installed Davinci Resolve. I've had enough of Alight Motion not having a Mac port and Capcut being unintuitive (and having goofy effects), so I'm stepping up my game. I'm downloading Davinci to free myself from this video editing purgatory.

Watched a shit-ton of YouTube tutorials on doing 3D text in DaVinki Resolve. And you know what? I'm starting to understand the Node editor. It's confusing, yes, but, quoting DB Boulevard: It's easy from another point of view!

I've also exported my first thing - a test 3D render. It's very rough and totally not passable by LarisB™ standards - but everyone starts somewhere, I guess :)

"So how'd reconciling with Maddie go?" You asked as your fiancé walked through the front door. You put down the sponge you had been using to clean the dishes and wiped your hands on the towel that was sat atop the counter.

Buck hung his coat up and slipped his shoes off before walking towards you and wrapping his arms around you, his head resting on your shoulder. You smiled at your cuddly fiancé and reached back slightly to thread your fingers through his hair.

"It went really well." He responded to the question you asked a moment ago. "She apologized and so did I. Then we were talking out her baby box. You know, it got me thinking."

"Oh really? About what?" You asked before turning around, his arms still around you.

"It's just... we don't really have anything special to put Eva's stuff in." The mention of yours and Buck's two year old daughter who was currently sleeping in your shared bed (because she claimed it was comfier) made your heart flutter with joy.

"What, you think we should make some sort of baby box for her?"

"Well, yeah. I mean a shelf in the closet isn't gonna hold for very long. One day she's gonna wanna see all that stuff from when she was a kid and we can't exactly hand her the shelf." He told you as you laughed at his words.

"I guess you're right. We could get one of those storage chests. I'm pretty sure they sell them in Ikea." You suggested, running your fingers through his hair once more.

Small thumps rang through the apartment as something made impact with your leg. You looked down to find your daughter staring back at you with her blue eyes she had inherited from her father. Buck's smile grew as Eva came into his view. He lofted her up with a faux groan before placing her on his hip.

"Daddy, I missed you." She mumbled, still sleepy from her nap. Buck kissed her cheek as she leaned into his touch. It warmed your heart that they had such a close relationship.

You still remembered the day that Eva was born and Buck had promised her that he wouldn't be like his parent. That he would pay attention to her and love her and care for her and never make her feel unloved or unwanted.

So far, two years later, he's kept his promise.

"I missed you too, E." Buck said to the toddler.

"You were late. Mommy said that you were doing something imporant." Her words slightly misspoken, as she was struggling with the correct pronunciation of words. You reached out and caressed your baby's face.

"I was with your Aunt Maddie. We're talking about some... family things." He explained.

Eva nodded slightly, acting as if she understood when you both knew she didn't truly know what he was talking about and that she was just happy he was home.

“Just one more sticker?”

Your pleading eyes met Buck’s as you held the butterfly sticker in your hand. Buck sighed and shrugged, knowing you wouldn’t listen to him even if he said no. You beamed as you placed the sticker, admiring your handiwork.

The two of you admired the bejeweled and sticker covered box with the name ‘Eva’ written in big letters on the front that had been sitting on top of the coffee table. The box only had a few things in it, seeing as Eva wasn’t exactly grown yet and had milestones that were yet to be made.

random notes,

I rarely post twice in one day lmao but I don't get to see my therapist until Thursday and I wanted to get some stuff off my chest.

I am kind of the black sheep of my extended family (aunts, uncles, cousins, etc.) because of a couple things. I was adopted via an inter-family adoption, and a lot of people weren't on board with that/thought it was weird, I guess. My aunts and uncles who were all really close to the other nieces and nephews kind of never took much interest in me or acknowledged me at all. I was only really close to one of my uncles. He was wonderful, and we emailed each other every month. My uncle passed away, way too young, in summer of 2019.

It also didn't help that six of my older cousins grew up in India, and I grew up in the US, along with my two younger cousins - who lived on the opposite side of the country from me, so I didn't see them much either. My cousins in India are all super close.

Two of my cousins from India moved here to the US. I've tried to connect with them, and been hopeful that them being in the same country would help, but they were never responsive and I gave up. They all settled on the East Coast near my East Coast aunt, uncle, and cousins. (I live in the Midwest.) They see each other regularly for family get-togethers and don't even invite me. None of them even sent me a card for my wedding to Derek either.

I see photos in the family group chat of their East Coast family get-togethers and like. It hurts. I wish I could be a part of a family like that. I'm not even close to my own parents. I can't tell you guys the amount of petty, bitter, jealous upset-ness I feel when I see people posting their cute Mother's Day and Father's Day appreciation posts (I straight up will stay off the internet on those days.) I even get upset when I see popular tumblr posts with casual references to people's positive relationships with their parents. Obviously I've discussed this in therapy but I need to revisit it because I've been feeling extra triggered lately.

I'm very happy to be close with my in-laws, Derek's family. His parents, grandparents, brothers and their wives, cousins, and aunts and uncles, have been more welcoming to me in the past almost-four years than my own family ever has. I just still have a lot of pain over being rejected by my family for fuck knows what reason and seeing them all be super close to each other. I think a big part of it is that my mom has a lot of bad blood with her siblings re: the adoption, but I wish it hadn't been taken out on me, you know? I wish I had good relationships with my aunts, uncles, and cousins. I visited my aunt, uncle, and their two kids who live on the East Coast a couple of times, but my aunt dropped me like it was hot once my other cousins moved to the US/East Coast and never invited me over again.

Idk!!! Bitter!!! I talk to Derek about it and he's like, "You're a part of my family, and we'll have our own family one day" and that is true but still. I feel like I've been robbed of an experience that so many other people have - which is having a tie with their family of birth/of origin.

Derek and I having a kid is 3 years away, hopefully, according to the current life plan, and I like that plan because I need the time to continue getting my life together before we become parents. I really hope that us having our own family helps me let go of this really deep, long bitterness over being rejected from my family.

You hear the faint chime of the doorbell ringing from inside the house as you nervously pick at your fingers down at your side. Harry notices the small action, quickly taking your hand to intertwine with his, shooting you a small smile in hopes to calm your nerves.

And it does. For a moment. Until the door swings open and Anne appears on the other side. What finally does put your anxiety to rest is the big, warm hug she pulls you into, a splitting grin adorning her face. You chuckle in surprise (mostly at the fact she hugged you first and not her own son), but return the kind action, nonetheless.

"Oh my gosh! Y/N, my dear, you look gorgeous as always!" She says pulling back just enough to look at your face.

"Thank you! You're looking quite good yourself, Mrs. Twist." You return either a kind smile.

"Oh, none of that. I've told you before, call me Anne," She looks at you with a knowing and playful scowl, waving you off.

"Wow, hello to you too mum," Harry mutters from next to you, plastering a fake pout on his lips.

She softly scoffs, releasing her hold on you and moving to embrace her son.

"You look gorgeous too, Harry. Is that what you wanted to hear?" She jokes, the familiar smirk she holds reminds you of the one your boyfriend pulls so frequently.

When they release from their tight squeeze, Anne steps inside and holds the door open before speaking.

"Well... Don't want you two to freeze out there, come in! I was just fixing a cuppa,"

The warmth of her home heats your frozen fingertips as you enter and your glad to be out of the snow. You love the snow, but since growing up not experiencing it often where you lived makes it a little hard to bear in times like these. You couldn't remember many times you've had a white Christmas before (probably could count on one hand, if your honest), but you've always remembered them being the best ones.

You've always loved the holidays. You loved the cold weather and the time with family. You loved you're yearly family tradition of opening one present on Christmas Eve night and taking a picture on the staircase in your childhood home the next morning. You loved making hot chocolate and watching you're family open the presents you got them.

You loved the holidays. But, what you love more than anything, is that this year you get to spend them with Harry.

You've been dating for two years now, but last Christmas, you spent it with your own family, as did he, because it was a bit too soon in y'all's relationship to make that step. However, this year Harry extended the invitation for you to join them and after talking with your parents (and your brother, albeit he didn't care one bit) you accepted the invite. Harry shrugs off his coat as you both stand in the foyer and you follow suit as a voice shouts from the kitchen.

"Are they here?" A familiar sister calls out excitedly.

You and Harry enter the kitchen and he's immediately pulling Gemma into a bear hug. You look at the sight and smile fondly, noticing her boyfriend, Michal, behind them, but not before worrying for Gemma's breath support as Harry noticeably squeezes tighter.

They let go of each other and she playfully scowls at him, swatting his arm. To which Harry dramatically holds his arm, draining an, ow, that hurt!, receiving an eye roll from Gemma before Harry moves to greet Michal, and his stepdad, Robin.

"Hi, Y/N! It's so great to see you, feels like it's been ages," She greets you in turn, having enough of Harry's antics already. You return the greeting, along with the one to Michal and Robin, and before you know it, you're all deep into conversation.

Harry takes up spot right on your side like a leech. If you were being honest, it took you awhile to become accustomed and comfortable to how openly affectionate Harry is with you in front of his family and friends. At first, it was just small touches and light squeezes when the two of you would go out with Mitch and Sarah. The actions not bold enough for you to scold him, but just enough to make your cheeks turn pink. Not long after, the touches turned into sweet kisses to your cheek and draping a protective arm around you almost every time y'all went out. Which wasn't a problem until you realized how many stares your friends shot you when you started to get too comfortable in his warm embrace, most of the time opting to daze out in Harry's comfort than pay attention to conversation. So then, when the little affections turned into koala-esque cuddling into your side and planting heart-stopping kisses to your lips in front of Gemma and Anne this past summer, you decided to tell him to reign it back just a tad. It wasn't that you didn't like it! Quite the contrary, the sweet scent of his cologne that would flood your senses as he settled so close to you made your head fuzzy, and the pecks along your neck or on your hands or on your cheeks left you incapable of being present.

Of course, your loving boyfriend pouted a bit at the fact he claims, you don't want my kisses, but quickly got over it when you dropped to your knees before the boy to press kisses somewhere he couldn't complain about.

However, despite all of your protests to PDA, you can't help but relinquish your resolve as you melt into the couch with Harry between your legs, head resting on your tummy. The whole family (which includes you now!) is settled into their comfy spots in Anne's living room as Miracle on 34th Street plays on the TV, everyone having changed into their fuzziest Christmas pajamas. The realization when you saw Harry, Gem, and Anne had matching pajama bottoms made your heart grow tenfold and your eyes glaze over in complete fondness.

The smell of kettle corn popcorn (as Harry made it since he knows it's your favorite) and cinnamon candles fill the room. Anne and Robin are together on the couch perpendicular to yours against the wall opposite of you and Harry as the two of you are laid out taking up the whole space on y'all's blue sofa, while Gemma and Michal have cuddled up on the floor, sharing the big bean bag off to your left since they were the last ones to join the holiday movie marathon.

You love the dynamic of Harry's family. Much different than the chaotic mess of yours, and although you still love your family very much (despite their constant need to be obnoxiously loud for no reason whatsoever, fight over little things, and ignore each other on a daily basis), you admire how calm their presence is. You're family is just so... loud. And that's not necessarily a bad thing! The running joke of your family is that no one in it is capable of whispering...well, except you but you all blame it on the anxiety. But even so, your parents and brother have always argued. Over everything. Very rarely is it about something important, and seldom does it get out of control, but your family's way of showing affection is very...unique? Y'all aren't openly nice and polite all the time. As confusing as it might sound, y'all show your love in bickering. The love is more underlying than it is direct in show.

But that's why you can't get over how quiet this house is right now. Not one fight over someone breathing wrong has broke out and Harry and Gemma actually get along and enjoy each other's company. They're like... friends! The concept is crazy to you and you can't help but get just a tad bummed how your family doesn't just sit around all cuddled up, and how they'll get something for you while their up so you don't have to move from your comfy spot, or how Anne will just hug Harry out of nowhere. But the more you think about it, you realize that it's probably because Harry wasn't around much, always touring and traveling the world. He never got the time to playfully bicker with his family. So, as everyone is quiet in their comfort, you take it all in, happy that you're given the chance to experience their household dynamic.

Your fingers play with Harry's hair, running them through the long brown curls, still as wonderstruck at how soft his hair is as ever. Hearing him softly hum when you gently tug through a thicker curl.

"You're so effortlessly beautiful, ya know that?" You whisper to him, the sound of the movie, thankfully, covering you're affection from everyone else.

You can just spot the smitten little grin that grows on his face, and despite not having the angle to see, you just know his precious dimple is making a showcase right now...and that's enough to put a smile on your own face.

Instead of replying in words, he only turns his head to place a soft, melting kiss upon your thigh. Making heat surge through your entire body, in turn, making your heart warm at his love.

As y'all sit and watch the movie, you start to subconsciously braid your boyfriends hair. Starting by sectioning (albeit, a bit lazily) his hair into two big chunks, then separating three strands from the top of his head, you start braiding the pieces, adding a bit more hair as you go. He eventually caught on to what you were doing and you thought he was going to stop you, truthfully. But to your surprise, he only started rubbing gentle circles into your legs with his hands in a calming manner, causing you to release a content sigh.

When you get to the end, you tie off the finished braid with a hair tie from your wrist before moving to the other side of his sectioned head. It surprised you how long his braids are! They come down about a few inches below his chin, much longer than the only other time you had saw him in braids, which was when Lou did them right before he went on stage to perform. Now, your braiding skills aren't as refined as Lou's are, her skills making yours look rather sad, but you're having a blast doing it and that's all that matters. Not like he's going to go perform after this, right?

After securing the second braid in a hair tie, you lean forward and place a kiss to the top of Harry's head, causing him to tilt his head to look at you with a big smile on his pretty face.

Since you're sat up already and hovering over his face with him still in your lap, you press a quick, searing kiss to his lips, watching them curve into a splitting grin. You smile back at him, just admiring his features.

Despite being able to feel the loving stares from Gemma and Anne in the room, your focus is still on Harry.

“I love you,” He whispers, bringing a hand up to gently stroke your cheek.

“I love you too, bubs.” You return, because you do. You love him so much it hurts sometimes.

Looking at him now, surrounded by his family, you think you have never been so happy in your entire life. You’re so lucky to have him in your life, and you know he knows he’s lucky too.

But most of all, you’re so glad you decided to spend this Christmas with him.

re: hinata - Oh my gosh, YES, my sister and I were so frustrated by how they just completely never addressed that moment again.  I wasn't surprised, because it's been clear from the beginning that this show doesn't really care much about women, so the female characters' storylines getting dropped or never explored in the first place is pretty much what I've always expected, but it's still infuriating.  

Honestly, the only good thing about this show's general disinterest in women is that it means that I don't place any blame on in-story Naruto for never addressing what Hinata did for him, because I know the fact that we don't see him dealing with her confession isn't actually intended to communicate anything about his reaction/non-reaction/level of investment; it's literally just a function of the fact that the writer doesn't care about her story.  It's the same way I feel about how we see so much less one-on-one time between Kakashi and Sakura - her lack of screentime with him isn't something about which a person can credibly argue "Oh, this means Kakashi doesn't care about her enough and he's a bad teacher etc etc," because the imbalance isn’t a deliberate writing decision we're supposed to analyze for characterization.  It's a reflection of the fact that the entire show is super sexist. XD

re: danzo: It’s one thing to have your villain believe himself to the hero of his own story, and like, another to have Danzo basically tout having darkness in your heart being a great thing and encouraging it’s presence/cultivating it - lmao YES!  And honestly, this is why I actually find Danzo LESS infuriating than the Third Hokage.  Like, Danzo is Super Evil and every time he exploits another child I want to watch him die all over again, but at least he like....owns his horribleness?  Whereas Hiruzen is the biggest hypocrite on the planet - when I rewatched the Shonen Jump stuff a while back (my sister and I took a little break prior to Season 11 and rewatched some old stuff), I couldn't stand listening to Hiruzen go on and on about how the entire Leaf Village is his family and it's his role to protect all of them etc etc, because like - he literally covered up the genocide of Sasuke's entire family and let the perpetrator remain in power (and that was before I even knew about all these other crimes he allowed to go unpunished!!!)  Danzo may be the Worst, but at least he's not pretending to be anything other than what he is.  Hiruzen is still acting like he's everybody's sweet old grandpa, and that makes me even more angry than Danzo's straight-up horribleness.  (And I do agree with you, they definitely lean harder into the "Lord Third is amazing" stuff pre-Shippuden, I just still feel confused about what the show is ultimately trying to say about him because we haven't gotten an explicit enough condemnation of his choices yet, and I feel like it's way overdue XD )

re: minato - Hard agree that Minato is an enigma.  I don't feel like I fully understand him either - and not in a bad way, just in the sense that he's hard to read.  The toughest thing for me to parse was always how distant he seemed with his students, which was surprising to me at first, because he'd been built up as sort of this "ideal shinobi" figure for such a long time, but to me, an ideal shinobi teacher looks more like...well, Kakashi, to be honest.  And it took a while for me to reconcile with the fact that Minato and Kakashi really do just relate to their students very differently.  I think Minato has always been a soldier, and I think he sees children as soldiers, too - not in an evil way at all, just in the sense that this is how the shinobi world works, and how it has always worked.  It's not a "wrong" way to perceive shinobi kids, in the context of the story's universe.  And so when things happen to those kids, he absolutely cares, but it's also sort of just a grim fact of life for him.  It's like when Kushina tells him she doesn't want to make Naruto a jinchuriki, and she asks 'why do we have to do that to him, why does he have to suffer that way for the sake of the balance of power between nations,' and Minato's response is “Because our family is Shinobi.”  That was a really telling moment for me in terms of how he sees the world.  It's not something I'm interested in condemning him for, like you said; I don't think the story is ever asking us to do that, it’s just a philosophy that's very different from how Kakashi sees things and what he thinks children's experiences should be like.  

I guess what I ultimately think (from the material we’ve seen so far, at least) is that Minato seems to perceive the loss of his students as something that Kakashi is struggling with, not something he himself is agonizing over.  It’s a very sad thing that happened, of course, but it’s just part of the way their world works/a function of the times they live in.  It's not something Minato is tormenting himself about.  Whereas I think that if Kakashi ever lost a kid, it would have killed him.  And I don't think this fact is in any way supposed to paint Minato as a bad person.  He's not!  All it means is that there is a generational difference between the world Kakashi and Co. are trying to create and the world Minato always knew, and people like Minato are doing the best they can with the framework they have.  

I do like the guy a lot - and I wonder what he might have been like if he had lived to see a permanent peace established.

re: little Yamato - oh boy, those episodes nearly ended me.  I am already very, very, VERY weak for Kakashi and Yamato’s friendship, and seeing Kakashi rescue Yamato from that horrible place (literally and metaphorically) was too much for me to handle.  Kakashi’s silhouette replacing Danzo in Yamato’s memories of being rescued from Orochimaru’s lab - that slew me.  And the way Danzo tells Yamato “you have no past, no future, no name” juxtaposed with Kakashi introducing Yamato as Tenzo because he remembers from three years ago how Yamato once rebelled at being called Kinoe and yelled “MY NAME IS TENZO” - Kakashi just using that chosen name without hesitation, without question, without needing to be told...it all ties back into the recent thematic throughline the show is working with about Identity - the importance of the Tailed Beasts having names, Kabuto’s desperate and misguided search for “who and what he is,” Itachi reclaiming his true self by undoing the reanimation justu and declaring “I am Itachi Uchiha of the Leaf Village,” Obito claiming that his real name doesn’t matter anymore, that he’s Nobody...it’s fantastic how they’re pulling all this together.

re: Kakashi and little Naruto - oh man, the feelings.  I agree with you that Kakashi was in no place to be dealing with this, but certainly under different circumstances I think he would have loved to be a part of baby Naruto’s life.  I actually think the reasoning behind “let’s put Kakashi in a situation where he’s in close contact with someone bringing new life into the world” is sound - I think that would be a really good thing for him!  Just not in the sense of “you’re Kushina’s personal bodyguard, so if anything happens to her and the baby you can blame yourself for it.” XD  Like...Minato could have invited Kakashi in for dinner sometimes, instead of having him constantly stand guard under their window???  If it had been more “we care about you and we want you to be a part of our family”....ugh, that would have been amazing.  Kakashi is already SO good with Naruto (who is NOT by any means an easy kid to manage) - he just has such good instincts about how to talk to that kid and teach him in ways that work WITH Naruto’s particular brand of high motivation/low frustration tolerance, ping-pong emotional extremes, explosive energy levels, zero impulse control, and an inability to process more than one thing at a time.  Handling Naruto effectively would be a challenging project for any teacher, never mind taking care of Naruto and two other kids, but Kakashi is a natural at it.  It would have been awesome to see what Kakashi was like with Naruto when they were even younger...though the Feels might knocked me out.

I’m not sure Booker would be ready in any sense of the word to be a father again, and having an immortal child would be,, really painful honestly, especially when he had to watch his children grow old and die and now there’s this child who gets to live and it’s not fair

and Booker is... a normal father, for lack of a better word. He loved his children. He told them stories and swung them into his arms and pressed kisses against their rosy little cheeks, he held them when they cried and joined in with the laughter, and he loved them

and so he looks at this - this child, because Five is thirteen and he doesn’t deserve this

but Five is not familiar with the idea of a normal father. His father was cruel, was very forthright in the fact that he did not care about the children as human beings. It’s laughable to think that Reginald Hargreeves would ever tell them stories, would ever hold them or kiss their cheeks or laugh with them. Reginald Hargreeves avoided even touching them. A father to Five is monumentally different than what a father is to Booker

they bright side is that if Booker ever acts fatherly, Five doesn’t clock it as fatherly. He might accuse Booker of mothering him? But honestly Booker probably is like “we can’t let Five do X dangerous thing, he’s baby” which,, Grace helped the kids get ready for their missions, she never tried to protect them from their ‘work’

and some of the things are so far outside of Five’s frame of reference that he just assumes they’re an Old Guard thing or something, like when Five gets a smear of dirt on his cheek and Booker automatically grabs a handkerchief to scrub it off

(I can claim this because Five has such non reactions to the same thing in the s2 gifs I have seen that I can only say he’s just like ??? the whole time and just chooses not to address it, especially bc it happens both with a family member AND an enemy and he doesn’t react either time)

To be fair, they all baby Five to an extent, but it looks different for each of them

Andy doesn’t know what to do with a child? She hasn’t really,, been around children for extended periods of time honestly, she’s used to saving kids and is honestly pretty good at awkwardly talking Five through panic attacks. But she’s kind of tough love, and would probably cheer Five up by giving him weapons and letting him blow stuff up tbh

Nicky and Joe are kind of like fun uncles? they tease Five a lot, and he can’t even argue with them because they’re both like 900 years older than him but also they are very emotional and touchy and they like to ruffle his hair and lean on him and give him hugs that pick him up and swing him around. It’s weird and he isn’t sure if he likes it, but it’s kind of nice to be included?? They never had kids so they’re kind of indulgent with him tbh, kids like taking down horrific time based organizations as a pass time right?

Booker is awkward because he is a father and so he does things like ruffle Five’s hair on autopilot or pile more food on Five’s plate or anything, and he freezes because - it’s something he did with his own kids, and,,,,, he might get more than a little emotional about it. which weirds Five out. Booker is definitely one of the more protective of them though and dislikes putting Five in the line of fire

Nile has Big Sister energy, despite being younger than literally anyone else in this au technically considering that the umbrella academy are 3 years older than her. She has what is vastly lacking: emotional maturity. She sort of adopts Five as a kid brother, which makes her nostalgic for her own brother but also Five is so different it’s not a big issue, but Nile used to babysit for money as well and knows how to handle difficult kids and just applies that to Five

(and it actually works more often than not, five is not immune to Nile’s impeccable logic - mainly because Nile doesn’t order Five she lays out her reasoning in a way that he can’t even argue with)

booker has issues, he has a LOT of issues especially regarding kids and stepping into a fatherly role that I’m not sure he would comfortable with for a long time... but he has a lot of time to wrestle with those issues and eventually step into a more parental role since they have... literally hundreds of years together in the future lmao

five has to learn to actually be a child and not just a child soldier, which isn’t exactly easy considering he’s now going to part of the immortal ‘army’ 

honestly i think a good healing part of this au is just... the og squad learning that surviving isn’t the same as living, and even though they still have to be careful about their footprints even with Copley erasing them... I think they have a lot to learn about living

and having normal human ‘sponsors’ to help out... well I mean - the Hargreeves are super wealthy now that their dad kicked the bucket and are probably very willing to go on camping trips or go to Disney World or drag the squad paintballing. When was the last time the og squad just had fun? no worrying about missions and saving people or saving each other, just pure silly nonsense fun

and the Hargreeves are learning to have fun for the first time as well, even if it means Klaus aggressively putting Mickey Mouse ears on everyone and Diego cheating at paintball and Nile teaming up with Allison to get everyone to go to various plays and musicals

the Hargreeves aren’t immortal but they also aren’t helpless either, and I could see them tagging along on any cool missions for a while. Especially Diego, tbh, with his discount batman schtick he has going on

(honestly if anyone would remind Booker of his kids, it would... probably be Klaus? His children were adults when they died, and he saw them dying, and Klaus is skinny as a rail and sickly looking and probably has health issues thanks to the extended drug use and withdrawal going on

so consider: Booker telling Klaus to sit down and let him cook, get some soup in that boy he’s way too skinny, booker is FRENCH he WILL cook for this beanpole. His mama’s stew could knock the plague right out of a person, probably.

I am kind of drawn to the idea that he has other siblings--he certainly seems to have a big extended family, which I feel like also creates some of those feelings of wanting to be important and distinctive.

3. What loves do you tend to write about? I can definitely say I write a lot of storge? May’s Golden Dragon is definitely nothing if proof of that, what with the familial bonds between May, Bobbi and Skye, not to mention the bonds between a lot of the staff. I feel like you can also find a lot of it sprinkled into my other works. So that one’s definitely for sure. May’s could also be considered an example of philia, too, depending on which way you looked at it -- you tell me on that one, actually.

There’s definitely a bit of pragma in there somewhere? Especially when it comes to Philinda fics, since I’ve only recently come to realize I write exclusively in AU. Maybe some ludus as well? Hmm. This is a good question, actually, thanks, Kat! 

15. Why physical quirks do your characters tend to have? Eyebrow raising, picking nails, biting lips, pacing, crossing arms, etc.

I definitely tend to recycle a lot of physical traits now that I think about it, LOL! Eyebrow raising is definitely one of them -- there’s a lot of eyebrow raising, often because it says so much in so little! I’m also fond of the one-cornered upward smirk and the soft smile. And light blushes. 

*taps pen* Hmmm, what else....ah, yes. There’s a lot of eye-rolling. And head-shaking. 

13. What traits do you share with your original characters or what traits do you wish you shared with them?

kat literally said to me “i’m gonna be mean to you on tumblr” while she was typing this ask, so. on this week’s day’s hour’s episode of kat and serena ruin each other’s lives -- 

i only have one original character at this moment in time, and it’s jade wong, who can currently be found in May’s Golden Dragon. what traits do I wish I shared with her? (yes, i’m purposely being mean and answering the second part first)

(warning: spoilers for may’s and cw for coming-out trauma, self-deprecation and anxiety under the cut. also just the general gist of homophobia and family dynamics)

first of all, jade’s hella tall. like, 5′10″ tall, so that’s a big one. i’m pretty short, so to be taller I think would be pretty cool -- see the world from a different perspective. second of all, by default, since may’s is set in new york city, jade lives in new york city, so I wish I shared that with her -- one of my dreams is to move to new york city for at least a couple of years, you know? also, i wish i could pull off the whole ‘leather jacket and motorcycle’ thing like jade does. i’m not tall, so i’m not sure i could ride a motorcycle without dying. and leather jackets are fucking expensive. and i wish i had a little bit of jade’s self-confidence in who she is. that girl’s got it in spades. outwardly, at least. i want what she outwardly projects. or at least to be able to do that. 

what traits do i share with her? this is where i sigh and curse kat for the millionth time under my breath. (it is a day that ends in -day, though, so am i surprised kat’s calling me out? no) 

i’ll come out (ha, see what I did there?) and state the obvious, of course -- jade’s a lesbian. in layman’s terms, as am i. jade’s chinese, as am I. we’re not the same age, although when I first started writing may’s, we were definitely closer than we are now. 

here’s where it gets a little tricker: it’s not so much a trait as it is a past life-defining event that we share in that jade and I have both experienced a not-so-swell coming-out story, and that said story has influenced how we look at life and the choices we make concerning the interactions with people we have. for us, it’s always been being too worried that we were too much -- too clingy, too overbearing, too present, too much of needing a person that we worry we become the toxic person we’ve read about. and you see that in jade: she worries about needing skye so much that she becomes toxically dependent on her, that so much feels right around skye, and that she goes to skye whenever she’s even the slightest bit down because skye’s that important to her. she worries that that is too much, and it’s on her for having been that way because she never gave skye the chance to set up boundaries, rather just barged right the fuck in. hence the return to belleview: if jade leaves, she learns for herself what it is to survive without skye as well as having known what it feels like to have such love in her life. and that it’ll be the kind of love to avoid in the future, because she’s sure it only hurts people. 

it also means that there’s a lot of self-deprecation on both of our ends -- that neither of us deserve the love we’re capable of receiving, and can only give and give while we relish whatever we get in return. we both fall really easily, and when we do, we go hard. there’s a lot of “of course I would be the one to do this, don’t know why I could expect anything fucking else from it” of self-fulfilling prophecies, a lot of “you deserve a lot better than the shitshow that is me” (read: belleview). oh, and a lot of running away from people we like because of said deservedness, fear of commitment, and fear of how deeply we love. (again, belleview.) 

and something I haven’t really had the chance to touch on yet but want to is the way jade experiences the world after her coming out? the explosiveness of her coming out has resulted in the fact that she now needs to overexamine every facet of her life to make sure that she doesn’t upset her precarious family situation, that no one besides her immediate family can find out lest she ruin the delicate balance that is her family politics. (family for us is twisted, too: what do you do when you know your family’s not going to be supportive, but you can’t detach from them because you’re still living with your parents and the relatives’ opinions matter greatly to them because of the close-knit structure of your family?)

and it’s extended to how she sees the world: can she be sure that this space she’s going into is accepting and one she can exist in? can she be sure it won’t turn on her? the lesson her mother (and mine) indirectly taught was you can never know. you can never know where the safe spaces are for sure and you need to treat every space like it’s a volatile one because even the seemingly safe spaces can be rife with hostility. even if it’s passive-aggressive hostility.

all in all, kat’s pretty on the nose when she says that I self-project a lot, so who jade is is a pretty good idea of who I am, emotionally. give or take a couple of backstory events and facets.
